How To Watch The Emmys Online

The Emmys air tonight and promise to be the most unpredictable Emmys ceremony ever, so there should be plenty of screw ups, all of which shall be welcomed and embraced by host Jimmy Kimmel and the producers.

For anyone who wishes to follow Sunday night’s live event — to catch any bonkers speeches, although no one will be tripping on their way to the stage tonight, and to see who wins and what their speeches will be like while potentially dressed in pajamas (see our not-sure-to-be-accurate predictions here) — there are multiple of ways to do so. And hopefully, we’ll see a lot of Ozark, Succession, and Watchmen love, even though almost everyone in the Better Call Saul cast got the shaft.

The ceremony will be broadcast on ABC this year, at 8:00 p.m. EST/5:00 p.m. PST. While most traditional way to watch is through an actual television set, you might get lucky if your cable provider allows live ABC streaming in your market. If that’s the case, ABC’s providing the option, but generally speaking, only the bigger cities can seize that opportunity. If you’re a cord cutter, then Hulu Live TV, Sling TV, fubtoTV, AT&T TV NOW, and more will have you covered.

It’s gonna be a weird one. The nominees are all setting up Emmy-provided camera equipment in their own homes, and it’ll all be at the mercy of wifi connections, which (as you are no doubt aware) aren’t the most stable thing in the world. Someone could fall asleep, or they might lose connection ten seconds into an acceptance speech. Or we might get a hot mic, which would be a blast, even though we’re getting no red carpet.

Of course, all the huge developments will also appear on the Emmys.com website, and be sure to check out UPROXX’s Emmys coverage, including a running winners list. If you want to do last-minute catchup on this year’s nominees, you can find them here.

Bartenders Shout Out Their ‘Must Try’ Fall Beers

The first day of fall is September 22. Might as well buy your Halloween candy now and get your seasonal sweaters out. And you can definitely crack those “fall” beers (yes, even pumpkin beers) about now. Time waits for no one and this seemingly endless year is marching on.

If you ask us, fall is the perfect time for brown ales, stouts, marzens, porters, pilsners, and lagers. IPAs still have their place on these shorter, brisker days, too. To help us drill down a little further, we asked a handful of well-known bartenders for help. They’ve shared their picks for “must drink” fall beers below.

Cigar City Maduro

Reniel Garcia, bar director at Havana 1957 in Miami

Maduro Brown Ale from Cigar City Brewing. This is a perfect combination for a rolled handed cigar, with chocolatey flavors and espresso notes. Making it perfect for a fall evening.

J Wakefield Hops For Teacher

Marla White, lead bartender at Lona Cocina & Tequilera in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Locally brewed J Wakefield IPA Hops for Teacher is a gem. Fall is the perfect time to drink a bitter and hoppy IPA. I’m not just ready to give up on IPAs yet.

Ayinger Oktober Fest-Marzen

Hayden Miller, head bartender at Bodega Taqueria y Tequila in Miami

Fall beers are generally a transition to heavier styles but, first and foremost, Oktoberfest releases are greatly anticipated. The malty goodness of a well-executed festbier is a welcome change for the season.

Ayinger releases a Marzen for Oktoberfest that is traditionally styled and toasted — not overstating or overwhelming.

Golden Road Get Up Offa That Brown

Molly Safuto, bartender at Mila Rooftop Bar in Glendale, California

Get Up Offa That Brown from Golden Road Brewing Company. It’s an English-style brown ale with tons of malty, caramel flavor. It reminds you of fall in a pint glass.

Saint Arnold Oktoberfest

Emmanuelle Massicot, assistant general manager of Kata Robata in Houston

Saint Arnold Oktoberfest. Fall means Oktoberfest and I always go to Saint Arnold for their classic take on signature styles of beer. It’s full-bodied, malty, and sweet and pairs perfectly with all the sausages, potatoes, and lederhosen.

Bronx Das Bronx

Crystal Chasse, beverage director at Talk Story Rooftop in Brooklyn

I love a good marzen in the fall. It’s a crisp lager with some malty, caramelized notes. Bronx Brewing also has a delicious local version called Das Bronx that I cannot wait to crack open.

Mikkeler St. Mikkelas

Max Stampa-Brown, beverage director at Borrachito in New York City

I love St. Mikkelas from the Mikkeler brewery out in Queens. This was a taproom exclusive I think but here’s to hoping they run it again. I’ll tell you exactly what this tastes like: very gingery graham crackers, slow-roasted marshmallow, and spiced chocolate bark.

If you were making s’mores on a cool fall evening and put them in a can, you’d get this beer.

Creature Comforts Bibo

Jerad Henry, bartender at Local Republic in Lawrenceville, Georgia

The awful heat keeps me inside most of the summer, so fall is my time to get out. I love Creature Comforts’ Bibo because it’s so versatile. Packed in a cooler for tailgating or waiting for me after a hike — I love the light body with the dry finish. Tons of depth in flavor from the hop additions, with an ABV (4.9%) so that I won’t regret cracking a few for a noon UGA football game.

Writer’s Pick:

Stone Xocoveza

I love Stone Xocoveza during the fall months. This 8.1 percent mocha stout is like a spicy, Mexican hot chocolate in beer form. It’s warming, malty and perfect for a cold fall night.

Alesmith Nut Brown

When fall arrives, we love to reach for the nutty, malty flavors of a good nut brown. One of the best is from California’s Alesmith. It’s complex and full of roasted nut and caramel flavors perfectly suited for chilly (and chill), fall days.

Three Takeaways From The Celtics’ Much-Needed Game 3 Win Over The Heat

We have a series in the Eastern Conference. Following a pair of collapses in the first two games of their conference final tilt against the Miami Heat, the Boston Celtics were able to pick up a crucial 117-106 win in Game 3 of the series. Instead of falling into a potentially insurmountable hole, the Celtics are now right back in it thanks to a wire-to-wire win that, despite getting a little hairy at the end, was well-deserved.

Jaylen Brown had himself a game

One of the big things to watch heading into Game 3 was what Jaylen Brown would look like after getting into a verbal confrontation with Marcus Smart in the locker room that require teammates stepping in following the Boston’s Game 2 meltdown. Answer, as it turns out, is pretty dang good.

With the caveat that we are only three games into things, Brown had what was easily his best game of the series against Miami. Brown scored a team-high 26 points on 11-for-17 shooting with seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals. In things you can’t quantify quite as well, Brown was locked in on defense, serving as a pest against the Heat’s perimeter players.

He got into a rhythm early, did not relent, and was one of the best players on the court for either team. The thing with Brown is that he possesses gobs of talent, and when he’s engaged, he’s a legitimate difference-maker on both ends of the floor for Boston.

His athleticism is something that few teams are ever able to answer for, and when he is attacking, he’s really, really dangerous. That was the case on Saturday, as evidenced by his 8-for-13 mark on field goal attempts in the paint. His ability to do that, specifically, makes life easier on guys like Jayson Tatum and Kemba Walker, who don’t run into an extra defender when they’re slicing their way into the lane and Brown’s guy has to stay home, lest he has a clear path to the rim that will end in two points.

By no means was Brown perfect — a flagrant foul with a little more minute left in the fourth on Duncan Robinson, in particular, let the Heat get within five points amid a torrid comeback attempt — but he had a really, really good game, something he needed after getting challenged by his team’s vocal leader last time out. Coming into Saturday, Boston was 15-1 when Brown scored at least 25 points in a game this season. Thanks to this performance, another one goes in the win column.

The return of Gordon Hayward was big

Gordon Hayward didn’t do anything particularly spectacular in his first game back from a sprained ankle. Hayward had not appeared in a game since Boston’s first postseason tilt against Philadelphia, and while it was evident there was a little bit of rust on him, he still put forth a very solid outing, all things considered.

In terms of raw numbers, Hayward didn’t turn heads, but he had a nice game on both ends of the floor. His six points on 2-for-7 shooting was about right considering he hadn’t played in a month, but he managed to pull down five rebounds, dish out four assists, record three steals, and block a shot in 31 minutes of action.

Hayward did not win the game for Boston, not by a long shot, but he brought some much-needed solidity to their wing rotation, particularly off the bench. Hayward was Boston’s only bench player to play double-digit minutes — Brad Wanamaker and Grant Williams both played nine, Enes Kanter played six — so despite the fact that he hasn’t played in quite a while, a lot was put on his shoulders. In a bit of good news for Brad Stevens, his former standout player at Butler University delivered.

The Celtics do not need Gordon Hayward to play like an All-Star, but being able to come off the bench and give them a level of stability that they just have not had during this series is a gigantic boost. Even if the Celtics barely outscore Miami while he is on the floor, that’s better than getting absolutely annihilated when one of Brown, Smart, or Tatum need to sit. And who knows? Playoff games can sometimes swing on getting a big performance from someone off the bench. Hayward seems tailor-made to have at last one night like that as this series goes on.

Just an off night for Miami, but…

Let me be the 500,000,000th person to write some version of this sentence this postseason: My god, Bam Adebayo’s good. He scored 27 points on 10-for-14 shooting and ripped down 16 rebounds while playing his usual brand of impossibly flexible defense. Tyler Herro had a game, too, scoring 22 points on 8-for-18 shooting off the bench, although 18 of them came in the first half.

The issue was everyone else. Miami’s bench gave them next to nothing — Kelly Olynyk and Derrick Jones Jr. combined for six points, and that was it for every bench player not named “Tyler.” Andre Iguodala was limited with back spasms. The Heat have a good bench, but this just wasn’t their night.

Jimmy Butler had a decent enough outing – 17 points, eight rebounds – but his shooting wasn’t particularly great, hitting only sixth of 13 attempts from the field. He also sat down the stretch for reasons that are unclear. The duo of Jae Crowder and Goran Dragic, both of whom have been ultra-reliable this postseason, combined for 21 points on 4-for-10 shooting from the field and 3-for-15 shooting from three, neither of which will get it done. While Dragic was on the floor, 28 minutes in all, Miami was outscored by 29 points.

It just did not seem like it was the Heat’s night, which you can take one of two ways. A pessimist will say they missed a chance to take a commanding 3-0 lead, and instead, we have a series. An optimist will say that Miami was down double digits for lengthy stretches of the game, and yet they kept fighting and got it within two possessions with less than a minute to play. Even though Boston has a lead for much of this series, Erik Spoelstra’s squad just does not quit, and despite falling short on Saturday, they have a 2-1 series lead because of it.

Now, both teams will get to take a few days and recharge. Game 4 doesn’t tip off until Wednesday evening — Monday Night Football is a powerful thing! — with the festivities beginning at 8:30 p.m. EST on ESPN.

Colby Covington Finished Tyron Woodley In The Fifth Round Of UFC Fight Night

One of the most heated rivalries in the UFC came to a conclusion Saturday night at UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas, when Colby Covington (16-2) finally made good on his word and beat Tyron Woodley (19-6-1) by fifth-round stoppage.

Woodley opened the first round with a flurry, appearing ready to set the pace of the night and showing an aggressiveness we haven’t seen from him since before his welterweight title loss to Kamaru Usman. But after the No. 2 ranked Covington took Woodley to the ground, the former champion never seemed to get his rhythm. The next four rounds would see Covington really control every aspect of the fight, getting inside on Woodley and dropping heavy shots. Covington eventually finished Woodley on the ground, who suffered a rib injury while attempting to defend himself while he was on his back.

The win was significant for Covington, who has called Woodley out for three years after breaking away as teammates at American Top Team. As an added bonus, the victory gets Covington back in the win column in his first fight since a TKO loss to Usman in December 2019, a fight in which he failed to win the UFC Welterweight Championship. In a sign of what he sees on his horizon, Covington made clear after the fight he wants another shot as Usman and a bout with Jorge Masvidal.

At 38 years old, Woodley’s career has come crashing down since his 2019 decision loss to Usman. He’s now dropped three consecutive fights, with losses to Gilbert Burns in May and Covington.

An ‘Elf’ Sequel Apparently Won’t Happen Because Will Ferrell And Jon Favreau Don’t ‘Get Along’

We already knew an Elf sequel was unlikely, but according to one of the movie’s stars it’s about much more than just Will Ferrell not fitting into the tights anymore. According to James Caan, who played Ferrell’s non-elf father in the 2003 holiday classic, there’s a very good reason why a sequel to one of the most successful modern holiday movies isn’t likely: its star and director didn’t get along very well.

The Wrap spotted a radio interview with Caan in which he actor claimed that Ferrell and director Jon Favreau “didn’t get along,” which is why the sequel he hoped for likely won’t happen.

“”We were gonna do it and I thought, ‘Oh my god, I finally got a franchise movie, I could make some money, let my kids do what the hell they want to do.’ And the director and Will didn’t get along very well,” Caan told Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan’s Bull & Fox show on Friday. “So, Will wanted to do it, he didn’t want the director, and he had it in his contract, it was one of those things.”

Ferrell had shot down a sequel years ago, though his reason at the time was far funnier than what appears to be the truth: he claimed he wouldn’t fit in the tights anymore.

Via Uproxx back in 2003:

“Absolutely not,” Ferrell said. “I just think it would look slightly pathetic if I tried to squeeze back in the elf tights: Buddy the middle-aged elf.”

The Wrap didn’t manage to track down comment from Ferrell or Favreau on the issue, but it does seem to make the idea of a sequel even more unlikely despite a Hollywood existing where no reboot or sequel is too desperate. Still, both major players in the show are certainly keeping busy with other projects these days.

Gordon Hayward Will Return To The Celtics For Game 3 Against The Heat

The Boston Celtics have not had the services of Gordon Hayward since their first playoff game in the NBA’s Orlando Bubble. Due to a sprained ankle that he suffered in that game, Hayward has been on the sidelines working to get back to a place where he can play, even leaving Disney World at one point to get treatment.

But in recent days, reports have indicated that Hayward is getting closer and closer to playing. The former All-Star forward was upgraded to questionable on Friday and the team was optimistic about his chances to play on Saturday morning. His status was eventually confirmed by Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Earlier in the day, Celtics coach Brad Stevens said that if Hayward was able to go, he’d be on something of a minutes restriction.

Hayward brings reinforcements to a Celtics team that can really use a shot in the arm right now. The team finds itself in an 0-2 hole in the Eastern Conference Finals against the feisty Miami Heat, and while Hayward won’t single-handedly save the day, he brings a level of shot creation and playmaking that could really help Boston, particularly because their downfall in both games so far have been lethargic stretches in which Miami have gotten back into games. At the bare minimum, Hayward gives them someone else who can make things happen should one of those stretches hit.

Game 3 between the Celtics and the Heat tips off at 8:30 p.m. EST on ESPN.

After the platform took it back to the 1980s with their Teddy Riley and Babyface battle back in April, Verzuz opted to celebrate the 80s once again in their most recent battle between Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle. A well-received battle by viewers with more 3.7 million tuning in to see, the showdown became the second-highest tweeted battle for the platform since it started earlier this year. While Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle’s Verzuz served to be another successful one for the Timbaland and Swizz Beatz, it was even more successful for Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle as the duo earned the best streaming weeks of their career following the battle.

According to Billboard, Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight earned a combined total of 4.1 million on-demand streams in the U.S. between the days of Sept. 13-16. That number compares to the 1.8 million on-demand streams that the duo earned in the four days leading to their battle. Jake Tapper Ripped Into An ‘Absolutely Heinous’ Donald Trump Celebrating That A Journalist Was Shot By Rubber Bullets

Donald Trump’s long history of comments critical of various journalists in the United States took a much more inflammatory tone on Saturday when he celebrated that an MSNBC journalist was shot by police with rubber bullets while covering a peaceful protest earlier this year.

During a rally on Saturday, Trump spoke positively about an incident where police fired rubber bullets at MSNBC journalist Ali Velshi while the host of Velshi was covering peaceful protests.

“He got hit on the knee with a canister of tear gas,” Trump said, though it was actually a rubber bullet fired by police. “Wasn’t it really a beautiful sight? It’s called law and order.”

The incident, which happened in May, has come up during Trump rallies before. You can see the attack captured on video below.

The comment drew cheers from the rally, but immediate condemnation online, especially from journalists and those working at MSNBC in particular. Velshi responded on Twitter on Saturday, asking what crimes he committed that deserved the “law and order” he’s describing.

Velshi also retweeted various criticisms of Trump’s comments and defenses of his own actions covering what was a peaceful protest before police opened fire. But perhaps the strongest words against Trump in this case came from Jake Tapper, who called Trump’s comments “absolutely heinous” and called on other journalists to condemn the president’s view on journalists covering peaceful protests.

“Anyone celebrating that violence has something wrong with them, and it’s twisted for anyone least of all a president to call it “law and order,”” Tapper wrote. “No journalist should find this acceptable.”

MSNBC also released a statement condemning Trump on Saturday, saying the president’s words “endangers thousands of other journalists and undermines their freedoms.
