A Spot-On John Mulaney Impression Highlighted ‘SNL At Home’s Latest Masterclass Sketch

The first SNL At Home episode featured a Masterclass segment that allowed Chloe Fineman to expand her on-air impression catalog to include Jojo Siwa and Carole Baskin. She was back with more gems in the final SNL At Home of the season, but it was Melissa Villaseñor who stole the show with an impressive impression of John Mulaney.

Fineman said earlier in the week that she had a garage full of wigs to help her make content for SNL At Home, and she’s used it to break out some wacky characters along the way. It turns out she has a wig for Phoebe Waller-Bridge, too, doffing a British accent to explain journaling for the masses.

SNL on YouTube

“I keep all sorts of journals — one for violent female rage, and this one is full of my naughty little secrets,” Fineman’s Waller-Bridge said, a clear implication of work-life balance with two shows involving very different topics like Killing Eve and Fleabag.

Villaseñor was next up, this time as John Mulaney teaching you how to wear a suit. She was thrilled to be included in the episode dressed as another comedian.

It’s really something to be seen more than described, but the mannerisms here are pretty spectacular. Villaseñor no doubt had time to take note of the real Mulaney when he hosted SNL twice during season 45, so good on her for making the most of that face time and turning it into an impressive bit.

The third Masterclass coach was once again Fineman, this time as Britney Spears making the most of her quarantine. It seems unlikely they will do another Masterclass sketch outside of quarantine, but it certainly has been a way to get some strong impressions into the SNL mix lately.

NHL Network’s ‘The 1970 Bruins: Big, Bad & Bobby’ Documentary Celebrates A Hockey Icon

While much of the sports world hunkers down for another pair of episodes of ESPN’s Michael Jordan docuseries The Last Dance, the hockey world gets its own deep dive into one of its all-time great teams on Sunday night.

NHL Network will air The 1970 Bruins: Big, Bad & Bobby as part of its Originals documentary series on Sunday night. The project celebrates the 50th anniversary of the infamous Cup-winning goal from Orr that clinched the title for the Bruins long before Boston became a modern-day title town.

The film airs 50 years to the day that Orr soared through the air after clinching the 1970 Stanley Cup with a dive across the crease in overtime against the St. Louis Blues in overtime of Game 4 in the Boston Garden.

“I don’t know what nirvana looks like,” said former NFL great Howie Long of the lasting image of Orr celebrating in midair, “But that’s it. That’s nirvana.”

A statue of Orr with his skates up now stands where the old Garden once did in Boston, just the start of the team’s legacy in the city. Narrated by Ken Casey of The Dropkick Murphys, the documentary covers the rough and tumble 1970 Bruins team and how their rise to greatness changed both the city of Boston and the NHL as a whole. The team, known as the Big Bad Bruins, was powered by Orr’s legendary defensive play as much as the team’s reputation for toughness and willingness to scrap.

NHL Network Originals

Featuring interviews with members of the team, including Orr and many others as well as notable fans of the Bruins, the film puts into perspective a four-year run that took the Bruins from NHL bottom dwellers to the toast of the league. Any film that tries to capture how magical Orr was in his prime is a worthy endeavor, but in a largely sports-less landscape the opportunity to celebrate on of the league’s great teams is as welcome as ever.

It’s also a fascinating look at how much the Bruins meant to the city of Boston, which was captured by this particular team in a way that changed the city and its sports fans. Long before the Patriots were perennial winners and the Red Sox broke the crease, the Bobby Orr Bruins were treated like rock stars in a city largely known in the sports world for the dynasties of the Celtics.

The event comes with an hour pregame show starting at 7 p.m. ET, with the documentary to follow at 8 p.m. Any night that gives us the opportunity to revel in the greatness of both Jordan and Orr is a blissful one given the rest of the current sports calendar.

Legendary R&B Singer Betty Wright Is Dead At 66

Adding to a difficult weekend for the music world, legendary R&B singer Betty Wright has died at the age of 66. Tracking back to the late 1960s, Wright began her career at the age of 14 when she released her first album, My First Time Around, where she earned her first top-40 hit, “Girls Can’t Do What the Guys Do.”

Throughout her career, she delivered a number of R&B hits including “Let Me Be Your Lovermaker,” “Shoorah Shoorah,” “Tonight is the Night,” and “Where is the Love.” With her niece Chaka Khan confirming her death to TMZ, a cause of death has yet to be revealed.

Khan first alluded to a possible health concern with Wright on May 2 after she tweeted, “Calling all my #PrayWarriors. My beloved sister, Betty Wright @MsBettyWright, is now in need of all your prayers.”

After her success in the 1980s, Wright would go on to start her own music label, Mrs. B Records, becoming the first female artist to do so. It was there where she recorded “No Pain (No Gain)” and “Mother Wit,” with the latter attaining a gold certification and making her the first female African American singer to go gold on their own label. Throughout her career, Wright earned six Grammy nominations and won the award once in 1975 for “Where Is The Love” under the Best Rhythm & Blues Song category.

Sharing nearly five decades of albums with the world, Wright became an influence to so many in music as names like Mary J. Blige, Beyonce, SWV, Tupac, Aaliyah, and Chance The Rapper sampling her work in their music.
