It may look like a scene from an aquatic version of Avatar, but it’s 100% real. In surreal footage taken this week off the coast of Newport Beach, dolphins glow bright blue as they swim through the nighttime waters of the Pacific—a natural bioluminescence phenomenon that never fails to amaze.
The dolphins themselves aren’t glowing. Rather, tiny bioluminescent phytoplankton light up the water around them when they are disturbed—hence the blue water in the boat’s wake as well. But the effect is totally magical.
Bioluminescence is caused by an algae bloom, commonly referred to as red ride. The glowing waters are a fairly rare phenomenon in Southern California, and Newport Coastal Adventures says the bioluminescence they’re seeing right now is the highest its been in years.
What a stunning reminder of just how unbelievably beautiful our world can be.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic hit America, one in seven children faced some form of food insecurity. But those numbers have to be much higher now given the economic impact caused by the virus.
No Kid Hungry, a national campaign run by Share Our Strength, a nonprofit working to solve problems of hunger and poverty, has made it easier for parents to provide meals for their children during the pandemic.
“During this time of crisis, many families are facing hardship. Finding places where they can get food assistance quickly and easily is more critical than ever, as it means kids can get the school meals they rely on, even while schools are closed,” said Jason Wilson, Managing Director of Brand and Marketing, No Kid Hungry.
The map is updated on a daily basis, but No Kid Hungry suggests people call any of the listed organizations ahead of time to make sure the information is current.
Jimmy Kimmel looked different on Thursday night because his daughter was in charge of wardrobe and makeup, and yes, 2020 is taking some unexpected turns. On a related subject, the host rustled up Arnold Schwarzenegger (who brought his pony and donkey on camera again, because why not) as a guest to discuss pandemic relief. Shortly after the 7:00 minute mark, things got a little rowdier when fellow guest Edward Norton, who has known Arnold for decades, broke down the first meeting between the two actors. It didn’t go too well for Edward, as he recounts, but the two recovered nicely.
As Norton explains, he met Arnold at a bar during a wedding reception prior to beginning production on 1998’s American History X. The future star of 2008’s The Incredible Hulk felt confident enough about discussing his workout plans at that point, but then Arnold good-naturedly cut him down:
“Arnold said, ‘You look good, You look trim,’ and I said, ‘I am actually trying to put on some size, so maybe you could give me some advice.’ And he asked me to breakdown my workout. So I was pretty proud, I was slinging a lot of steel back then. I told him my whole workout and he goes, ‘That’s pretty good. And you’re doing two a day?’ And I say, ‘No, just once a day’ and he goes ‘Well, that’s pretty p*ssy, Ed.’”
Arnold calls it like he sees it, alright. Again, things turned out well for the pair, and according to Hollywood Reporter, their new joint endeavor, the Frontline Responders Fund, has raised over $7.3 million to date. The organization is aimed at supplying personal protective equipment for first responders throughout this pandemic. Learn more about the fund in the above video, and of course, please enjoy the pony.

Victoria Monét — “Dive”
“Dive” is the second single from singer-songwriter Victoria Monét off her upcoming debut Jaguar, set for release this spring. The bright and cheery slow tune isn’t about taking a dip in a pool on a warm summer’s day, though. More like an invitation to go down below, where the sun doesn’t shine.

As part of TDE Appreciation Week, the team delivers “Rapper Weed” by Inglewood crooner Sir with Compton’s own Boogie on for a verse as an ode to Mary Jane. Sir also handles the rich production on “Rapper Weed,” as he celebrates everything nature’s dankest gift to earth has to offer.
Zacari — “This Woman’s Work” Feat. Che Ecru
Coming off last years’ Run Wild Run, Zacari applies pressure with the elusive “This Woman’s Work” featuring Che Ecru as part of TDE Appreciation Week. Zacari navigates steamy thoughts about his favorite dancer with vocals that ascend to the highest point of explosion, Kate Bush would be proud.
Eric Bellinger — Optimal Music
After speaking to Uproxx about the state of R&B last month, Eric Bellinger‘s Optimal Music is finally here. “This is the optimal quality of the beat selection, from the music to the vocals,” he told us. The project includes guest appearances from Young Thug, Jeremih and Joe Moses, among others.
T-Pain — “Wake Up Dead” Feat. Chris Brown
T-Pain flexes his organic vocals, no preservatives (autotune) on his latest release “Wake Up Dead,” featuring Chris Brown for the layup. The sexually-charged song was first heard on T-Pain’s Verzuz Instagram live battle with Lil Jon earlier in the month with production by KC Supreme of the adept Internet Money crew.
Masego — “Veg Out (Wasting Thyme)”
Masego has given the world a taste of what’s to come for the rest of 2020 with his flirtatious jazzy-trap cut “Veg Out (Wasting Thyme).” The clever Virginia talent boasts different levels of his eclectic vocals over bass-heavy production with champion wordplay.

Accompanied by just an acoustic guitar, Petras performed a cover of Paris Hilton’s 2006 track “Stars Are Blind.” “This is one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite people, Paris Hilton,” Petras gushed before launching into the rendition. “Some people never get beyond their stupid pride / But you can see the real me inside,” Petras belted.
The cover caught the attention of Hilton herself, who showed her appreciation to Petras for the cover. “This was so beautiful it made me cry,” Hilton wrote on Twitter.
The cover arrives shortly after one of Petras’ Clarity tracks appeared in a lip-synch battle on this season of Ru Paul’s Drag Race. Fighting for their chance to stay on the show, two drag queens put on an epic show while singing along to Petras’ buoyant song “Heart To Break.”

Jessie Ware is ushering in a brand-new era. Back in November, the singer announced a pivot from her former catalog with the disco-inspired track “Mirage (Don’t Stop),” arriving on her upcoming record What’s Your Pleasure?. After February’s slow-burning “Spotlight,” Ware is back again for another preview of her album with the dance-ready track “Ooh La La.”
The euphoric track opens with a funky bassline and crashing percussion. Ware’s fun-loving vocals narrate carefree imagery of young love. “Driving fast, driving fast, technicolour street lights / Cigarettes on the dash, we can have a sweet time,” Ware sings.
In a statement about her upcoming album, Ware says she feels excited to reveal a different side of herself to the world through her music: “It feels so amazing to be back making music, so much has happened recently. Some crazy exciting things but I feel so happy to be back to my first love. Music was the first scene that truly embraced me! I feel like these last few years I’ve had to do some exploration to figure out what I wanted to write about musically again and learn new things about myself. I’ve been yearning for that escapism, groove and maybe it’s time to say goodbye to the melancholy Jessie.”

What’s Your Pleasure? is out 6/19 via Virgin/Universal. Pre-order it here.
