NewJeans is coming off a pretty terrific 2023, as the group’s six-track project Get Upbecame their first No. 1 release on the Billboard 200 chart (and it made it onto the 2023 Uproxx Music Critics Poll). Now they’re looking to bring that energy into 2024 with their upcoming double single How Sweet. The release features the songs “How Sweet” and “Bubble Gum,” and the group just shared a fresh video for the latter track today (April 26).
The clip sees the group members enjoying fun times together in a variety of environments, whether they’re riding bikes outside or being silly indoors. As for the song itself, it’s a delightful bit of airy pop that’ll be the perfect soundtrack for upcoming summer days.
After the How Sweet release on May 24, the group plans to unveil another double single on June 21, details of which are forthcoming.
Meanwhile, the group has recently been embroiled in some legal drama. It was reported earlier this month that NewJeans is attempting to take legal action against an anonymous YouTube user who has shared “false and defamatory videos” about the group. However, they’re unable to do so without the person’s identity, so they have been trying to get Google to reveal that to them.
If you have noticed an influx of posts regarding being raised in an asylum lately, you are not alone. That is a side effect of a new Taylor Swift album, and it should subside shortly. But until then, there are some good ones!
On The Tortured Poets Department, Swift sings the lyric, “You wouldn’t last an hour in the asylum where they raised me,” and while she probably wasn’t referring to her quaint hometown of Redding, PA, many have taken the phrase literally. It’s Banes’ “I was born in the darkness” all over again.
One notable tweet was from Monica Lewinsky, who hopped on the trend by posting the lyrics along with a photo of the White House. It’s hard to top that one. It has layers.
But fellow meme queen Gillian Anderson also had to weigh in on her own personal asylum, which is The X Files.
It’s interesting considering that Swift has a whole song dedicated to being abducted by aliens / ex-boyfriends on that same album. The truth….is out there.
Anderson is no stranger to participating in online shenanigans, so her joke definitely landed with the right audience, who also recognized that Anderson had a difficult time on The X Files set.
the way that this is actually true considering that she went through hell and back every day on that set https://t.co/56ntgJ2RIQ
In 2021, Anderson opened up about her experience on the long-running series. “I had a good couple of mini breakdowns during that, and at the end, could not talk about it, could not see it, could not see pictures, could not,” she explained. “And when I finished…I didn’t know if I wanted to be on a set again ever.” Just more proof that most of us would not last an hour on the set of an alien detective show.
In March, Travis Scott’s attorneys moved to be dismissed from pending liability litigation over the 2021 Astroworld Festival tragedy, but today, his request was denied by the judge overseeing the case. According to Billboard (via Rolling Stone), Judge Kristen Hawkins denied the motion without a written rationale for her ruling. That means Scott will still be on the hook — along with Live Nation and the other festival organizers — when the massive combined civil liability trial begins on May 6. The first case to be tried will be the wrongful death suit filed by the family of the late Madison Dubiski.
Scott’s lawyers’ bid to remove him from the liability proceedings followed a similar, successful bid by Drake. They argued, “Performing artists, even those who engage in certain promotional activities, have no inherent expertise or specialized knowledge in concert safety measures, venue security protocols, or site-design,” asserting that should free him from liability for the crowd crush that killed 10 and injured hundreds. However, Dubiski’s family’s attorneys responded that Scott showed “a conscious disregard for safety,” citing Scott’s tweet that “we still sneaking the wild ones in” after the festival sold out as evidence he did not properly regard overcrowding concerns. In addition, he was the only artist performing during his headlining set with no counterprogramming to cut down on crowding, and the plaintiffs say he disregarded festival organizers’ recommendations to stop the fest as conditions worsened.
Even though Sonic is known to go fast, he will definitely be sticking around for the foreseeable future.
The speedy hedgehog has two movies and one spinoff show already under his metaphorical belt, and the upcoming third installment is set to pack an even bigger punch. Thanks, Knuckles!
Sonic The Hedgehog was released in 2020 and its follow-up, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 hit theaters in 2022, so naturally, a third installment is on the way. Luckily for fans, the upcoming threequel is set to bring in some iconic characters from the original game series, in addition to Jim Carrey and his giant mustache. There’s something for everyone! Here is what we know so far.
Plot
Producer Toby Ascher told GamesRadar+ that the upcoming movie will be “this giant, fun, incredible movie that obviously takes a lot from Sonic Adventure 2 and some of the games that I know the core Sonic Team grew up loving,” Ascher said.
While the official plot has not yet been released, the end of Sonic 2 hinted at the future of the series. In a post-credits scene, military personnel are searching for any sign of Dr. Robotnik(Carrey) who is presumed dead. The commander is also given information about the discovery of Project Shadow, hinting the appearance of Shadow in the upcoming film.
In the games, Shadow was created by Dr. Robotnik as Sonic’s edgier counterpart with access to firearms who sets out for revenge when his human friend Maria is killed. Much like the John Wick of the Sega universe. Which is why his casting is perfect.
Cast
Keanu Reeves will make his debut as Shadow after the fan-favorite character made a brief cameo during in the previous installment. Idris Elba will return as Knuckles, fresh off his very own miniseries. Of Reeves’ casting, Elba could not confirm nor deny, but he was excited about the possibility. “I heard the rumors. Yeah, I know nothing,” Elba told GamesRadar+ during a recent interview for the Knuckles series. “But wow, Keanu, yeah? Big tings.”
Ben Schwartz will once again portray Sonic, while Colleen O’Shaughnessey will reprise her role of Miles. As for the live-action folks, Jim Carrey is set to return as the evil Dr. Robotnik, so odds are good his character survived the big blast. James Marsden will also appear as Tom Wachowski, the adopted father to the hedgehog gang.
Release Date
Marsden confirmed that filming wrapped last month, and it’s set to speed into theaters on December 20th 2024. Because it is being distributed by Paramount, the flick will land on Paramount+ at some point in 2025.
Trailer
An official trailer has yet to be released, but you can check in with our pal Knuckles for now. Knuckles is currently streaming on Paramount+ and takes place in between the second and third films.
The California-based resort is hosting Pixar Fest from April 26 – August 4. Highlights include Disneyland Park’s “A Journey of Friendship,” a nightmare spectacular show featuring characters from every Pixar film, and “Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration,” a daytime parade in Disney California Adventure that includes an appearance from Turning Red‘s 4*Town, the fictional boy band with a real song from Billie Eilish and Finneas.
After riding The Incredicoaster and Radiator Springs Racers in Disney California Adventure, stick around for Club Pixar, “a nighttime party, inspired by the amazing stories from Pixar Animation Studios. Your whole group can enjoy an interactive DJ dance party, live performances, exciting games, photo opportunities, themed food, specially crafted beverages, and more.” Something tells me a lot of people are going to ask Mrs. Incredible for a dance.
There’s also limited-time Pixar-themed food and drink options. Some of my favorites are the Pixar Fest Cake at Plaza Inn; the Italian “Silenzio Bruno!” Sandwich at Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe (Luca, a very good movie, does not get enough love); and the Mike Wazowski-shaped Eye Scream Cone at Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor. Beginning next month, on May 10, Disney California Adventure Park will debut six Pixar-themed food and beverage marketplaces.
The Philadelphia 76ers picked up a win on Thursday night in Game 3 of their first round series against the New York Knicks. As is usually the case, the Sixers were led by Joel Embiid, who was nothing short of brilliant in what might go down as the best game of his playoff career. Despite dealing with Bell’s palsy, Embiid went for 50 points on 13-for-19 shooting with eight rebounds and four assists in a 125-114 win that cut the Knicks’s lead in the series to 2-1.
The game did feature a bit of controversy, as Embiid received a Flagrant 1 for a foul on Mitchell Robinson that looked like it could have been more. While Embiid was laying on the ground, he wrapped his arms around Robinson’s ankles as he went up for a shot.
Embiid came under a ton of scrutiny for the foul, with Donte DiVincenzo telling the media after the game “It was dirty. It was dirty.” While Josh Hart didn’t go quite as far, he was still unhappy with Embiid for the foul.
“I mean, we’re just happy Mitch didn’t get a serious injury on that,” Hart said, per Tim Bontemps of ESPN. “I’m all for tough fouls, tough playoff fouls, but that’s something that can put a guy out for a significant amount of time. So we’re lucky he didn’t get seriously hurt during that time.”
Embiid defended himself by saying he was trying to make sure Robinson didn’t land on him while he was on the ground, saying “It was unfortunate. I didn’t mean to hurt anybody. I just … in those situations I gotta protect myself, because I’ve been in way too many situations where I’m always the recipient of the bad end of it.”
Robinson, who has been dealing with ankle issues this year and needed surgery that kept him sidelined for a spell, tried to remain in the game, but was eventually ruled out with an ankle sprain after going into the locker room for halftime. His status for Game 4 is unclear.
Coi Leray keeps working — and works out — in the new video for “Can’t Come Back,” her second single of 2024. The video finds the New Jersey rapper in a penthouse gym, lifting weights and showing off her dance moves in front of some impressive floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking an awesome view of the city outside. Her delivery in the song ranges from a whispery rant reminiscent of her “Playboi Carti” delivery and a crooning vocal. Half Flashdance, half workout video, the visual continues Coi’s campaign to follow up her 2023 self-titled album. “Can’t Come Back” follows “Wanna Come Thru” as Coi’s second single of 2024.
By now, the former Uproxx cover star‘s work ethic should be indisputable. Shortly after dropping Coi, the second-generation rapper released an EP, Blue Moon, along with videos for standout tracks “Isabel Mirant” and “Playboy,” teamed up with Busta Rhymes for the single “Luxury Life,” and contributed to G-Eazy’s comeback single “Femme Fatale” alongside Kaliii.
She’s also one of four artists billed to join Jhené Aiko on her upcoming tour, The Magic Hour. Both Aiko and Coi were recently on the lineup for Coachella 2024, where Coi debuted a few new tracks during her set. Whether they’ll appear on a new album this year remains to be seen, but she has certainly shown a propensity toward productivity, so it’s almost certain she’ll be putting something out sooner or later. For now, you can watch the video for “Can’t Come Back” above.
Doja Cat frequently raps and sings about explicit topics in her music. At the same time, “Say So” was one of the biggest pop hits of 2020 and is a song that listeners of all ages can get into. So, this could create an issue where a younger fan wanting to see Doja live could be exposed to material their parents would find objectionable and problematic.
It would seem Doja has encountered criticism about this recently or has at least been thinking about the topic: Late last night/early this morning (April 26), she wrote in a trio of tweets, “idk what the f*ck you think this is but i don’t make music for children so leave your kids at home motherf*cker,” “im rapping about c*m why are you bringing your offspring to my show,” and “rappin about eatin dick and pissin on his v-cut, leave your mistake at home*.”
idk what the fuck you think this is but i don’t make music for children so leave your kids at home motherfucker
Meanwhile, she recently had a more laissez-faire reaction to the deluxe edition of Scarlet leaking, tweeting, “its definitely messed up cuz i wanted to put it out myself but theres nothing i can do about it!! thats just how its gonna be but at least i can just keep being creative and look forward to the awesome things i have coming up!!”
Before George R.R. Martin’s Westeros endured the Game of Thrones, Aegon the Conquerer set up his House of Targaryen to rule the Seven Kingdoms. Now, HBO is gearing up to show us the mayhem that happened when this house splintered into two sides that each claimed the Iron Throne. In one corner, Rhaenyra Targaryen had been named rightful heir by her father. On the other side, Aegon Targaryen II had been erroneously elevated to king after his wife, Alicent Hightower, mistakenly interpreted King Viserys’ deathbed ramblings.
Let’s get real though — Alicent was headed in this direction regardless of whether it happened by mistake or by plan.
With that said, House Of The Dragon‘s second season shall soon arrive to continue filling in the gaps before the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Night debuts (supposedly in 2025) to bridge the Westeros timeline before GoT. Much ground will be followed, but the HBO streaming service, Max, will take the story to the skies. Let’s get down to business on how to brace ourselves for more of the Fire and Blood book moving from mere “historical” account to a fully realized wall of fire in our living rooms.
Plot
HBO
Obviously, the show will continue to track the Targaryen lineage about 300 years prior to near-extinction level on Game of Thrones. Yet whereas the first season charted the mistakes that were made (mainly by King Viserys, RIP) that led to the dominoes being lined up, this season pits the two teams — Black (Targaryen) and Green (Hightower) — against each other atop dragons. So, we’ll see the “Dance of the Dragons,” so nicknamed by the civilians of Westeros, take place with mass casualties as a result.
Sure, that’s a bummer, but on the bright side, we will definitely meet new dragons following the first-season debuts of many air-bound creatures. Also, more dragon riders will be needed to fill those seats, and in Martin’s lore, Targaryens do look outside the family for those who are worthy to take those rides. It’s sad to realize that so many lives will be lost after the catalyst of Luc Targaryen’s death, which sparked vengeance from Rhaenyra, but then there’s this ridiculous question: Will there be time for any icky foot-thing scenes? We can only hope.
With that said, this series has been plotted out for four seasons, and that plan could change, but it’s unlikely that we will see the entire war take place in Season 2. Hopefully, we will at least see the inevitable showdown between Daemon and (Mini-Me) Aemond, and if that plot point follows the Fire and Blood book, both men should be very afraid.
During this Targaryen Civil War, George R.R. Martin killed off half the population of Westeros and, as noted previously, nearly every member of the blondest family. However, the HBO series has already tweaked parts of the book, so there’s no reason to believe that everything will go down as Martin wrote in the lore. Queen Alicent and Otto Hightower will definitely begin to see consequences of their long game, and Rhaenyra will be coming for the Iron Throne with Blood and Cheese (wait for them, oh boy) paving the way.
HBO
First, Daemon must zoom around Westeros to gather as many houses as possible for that fight. The Hightower side will do their recruiting, too. I suspect that the strategy set-up will take up much of this second season, but unlike with the book, Rhaenyra might even leave Dragonstone to participate. And we will literally see fire rain down from the sky when the two sides have to force allegiance from reluctant settlements.
Cast
The stage is set for repeat turns by Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen), Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower), Matthew Needham (Larys Strong), Fabien Frankel (Ser Criston Cole the terrible), Steve Toussaint (Corlys “Sea Snake” Valaryon), Eve Best (Rhaenys Targaryen), Rhys Ifans (Otto Hightower), Ewan Mitchell (Aemond Targaryen), Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon Targaryen II), Phia Saban (Helaena Targaryen), Harry Collett (Jacaerys Velaryon), Phoebe Campbell (Rhaena Targaryen), Bethany Antonia (Baela Targaryen), and Sonoya Mizuno (Mysaria/that White Worm).
Millie Alcock and the rest of the first-generation Targaryens and Hightowers will, as far as HBO has indicated, not be returning this season in flashbacks. That doesn’t mean that we won’t see them again someday, but at least Paddy Considine does not have to jeopardize his own health for another stunning performance that the awards circuit decides to ignore.
We shall also meet an endless stream of new character including Alys Rivers (Gayle Rankin), a mysterious healer from Harrenhal, who plays a pivotal role in the book. Ser Simon Strong (Simon Russell Beale) will step up as Castellan of Harrenhal, Ser Gwayne Hightower (Freddie Fox) will surface as Otto Hightower’s son, and Alyn of Hull (Abubakar Salim) will follow up on his work in the Stepstones campaign.
Release Date
June 16! Hold onto your wigs.

HBO delivered both Black and Green versions:
‘House of the Dragon’s first season can be streamed on Max.
