A homeless man asked a college student for some tea, and a deluge of kindness followed

Every once in a while, a story of two strangers turns into a shared connection that touches millions. This is one of them.

Sanai Graden is a 21-year-old college student living in Washington, D.C., who likes to vlog on TikTok while she does everyday things. As she was heading to the grocery store on a random day at the end of January 2024, she turned on her camera, and soon after, a man approached and asked her if she could help him get some hot tea.

Not money. Not even food. Just some simple, hot tea.

Graden told the man she was going to Trader Joe’s and he could go along with her and they could stop at Starbucks. As they walked and chatted, Graden learned the man was homeless, had no family and was suffering from prostate cancer. He has just gotten insurance, but it wouldn’t kick in for 45 days and he needed a prescription filled.

Over the next four to five hours, Graden got him some tea, helped him get his prescription filled so he could get some relief from his pain and put him up in a hotel room for the night. By the end of the day, she was calling him “Unc,” and he was calling her his “angel.”

She left him with some cash and her phone number and then posted this video:

@hustlanani

Please help me help him !

At the end, she said she wanted to start a GoFundMe for Unc (whose real name is Alonzo), and she did just that.

“I’m just a college student, there’s only so much I can do,” she shared in another TIkTok. “I did the best I could. But that man, he was literally suffering, and it broke my heart…He was so kind…I just wanted to help him.”

Her initial video started going viral—it currently has over 20 million views—and people started donated to the GoFundMe. When it reached $12,000 in a matter of hours, she called her parents to tell them about it. They told her she was exactly the right person to be helping this man because she will make sure the money is used to get him what he needs.

@hustlanani

Replying to @The JasmynYvette Thank you so much eve

Little did she know that that $12,000 would soon rise to $20,000, and then to $50,000, then $100,000 and more. As of the writing of this article, two days after the GoFundMe went up, it has jumped the $300,000 mark.

At this point, so many people are invested in Unc’s well-being. Upwards of 20,000 people have donated, and the number just keeps rising. As one commenter put it, “He’s everyone’s Unc now.”

Graden went to tell him the good news the next morning when the GoFundMe was around $150,000, but when she arrived at the hotel, he had already checked out. She searched everywhere she thought he might be, even renting a car to cover more ground more quickly, but she wasn’t able to find him.

Finally, she shared a brief voice message he left for her that started, “Hey, Niece! It’s your uncle,” and ended with “I love you!” but he neglected to tell her where he was. After she looked around some more, he called again and and told her he was at church. She told him to wait right there.

She found him in front of a church and invited him to go get something to eat. She said she wanted to talk to him in private, but he was waiting with his aunt and couldn’t leave just yet. Finally, she was able to sit with him in her car and tell him about what thousands of people were doing to help him live comfortably and more easily manage his cancer.

She had to convince him the money was his, not theirs together. He also said he hadn’t finished writing her a letter he’d started.

@hustlanani

I know you’ve all been waiting on his reaction. I just made it home. Please enjoy it. Thank you everyone for coming together. This would not have been possible without the endless support. This is just the beginning of something great. I’m enternally grateful. God did that !!!

The first thing Graden did was take Alonzo to Target to get him his own phone and some new clothes of his choosing. He even had a little laugh with Graden when she asked him if he wanted to get some floss, forgetting that he doesn’t have any teeth.

@hustlanani

This story is still developing and there are obviously a lot of complex details to work out as they get Alonzo settled with however much money the GoFundMe ultimately raises. No one wants Alonzo to lose his health benefits, and there are various financial as well as mental and emotional elements to consider as they move forward. But the power of the kindness of strangers to change someone’s circumstances, starting with just one caring soul, is certainly worth celebrating.

Follow @hustlanani on TikTok for updates on Unc.

So, Where Does Taylor Swift Go Next After Her Biggest Album Yet?

taylor swift ttpd
BETH GARRABRANT/MERLE COOPER

Every time it feels like Taylor Swift’s popularity has reached its peak, she climbs to a new height.

The Tortured Poets Department, her messy, emotional, and surprisingly funny 11th studio album, hasn’t even been out for a week, but it’s already shattered a number of records. The biggest album of 2024 based on sales and streams. The first album in Spotify history to reach one billion streams in less than seven days. The biggest Billboard 200 debut of her career with expected sales of over two million copies sold, one of only three albums in the SoundScan era to achieve the feat. Boys break little toys; Taylor Swift breaks records.

Swift is surely basking in the success of The Tortured Poets Department, but she’s too much of a smart and successful businesswoman to not already be thinking of the future. Below, I made some predictions about what’s next for the “Fortnight” singer, separated into three categories: the Immediate Future, the Intermediate Future, and the Distant Future. I am fully prepared to look like a (modern) idiot when they all prove to be wrong, but humor me, will you?

Immediate Future

Taylor Swift has nothing on the schedule (at least publicly) until May 9, when the Eras Tour resumes after a two-month break somewhere the culture’s clever: Paris, France. Between now and then, don’t expect any late-night performances to promote The Tortured Poets Department. For one thing, it doesn’t need the help. Also, Swift and her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, are “relaxing at home and having low-key and chill time together,” a source told Us Weekly. “They are enjoying movie nights in her home theater, catching up on films and shows they’ve missed. They can finally rest and intend on spending quality time together and with friends and family.”

It’s likely she’ll continue to stay off the radar as much as possible — minus a sushi date here or there — until the European leg of the Eras Tour begins.

Intermediate Future

Between May and November, Swift will play shows all over Europe, including stops in Sweden, Portugal, and England (that should be interesting), before returning to North America for three concerts each in Miami, New Orleans, and Indianapolis. The Eras Tour is scheduled to wrap up on December 8 in Vancouver, Canada, her 152nd (!) show of the tour, although there’s been speculation that she’ll perform in Turkey in 2025. Take those dubiously-sourced rumors with a grain of salt that’s bigger than the whole sky. The two big questions in the intermediate future are:

-Will she add a The Tortured Poets Department “era” to the tour?

-When will Reputation (Taylor’s Version) and Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version) come out?

Let’s begin with Poets. I would be surprised if the album got a full-blown set, like Midnights, 1989, Red, etc. That’s a huge undertaking with new choreography, new lighting, and new outfits, and it would take songs away from the other eras. My guess is that Swift will either represent Poets through a mini-set, like with Speak Now, or she’ll debut songs from the album during the acoustic portion of the show. What would people rather hear: “Mary’s Song (Oh My My My)” or “Who’s Afraid Of Little Old Me?”? (OK, bad example. “Mary’s Song (Oh My My My)” is a Senior Swiftie favorite, but you get the idea.)

As for the two remaining Taylor’s Version albums, Swift has been teasing Reputation (TV) for too long for it not to be next. I was certain the reveal was coming during the 2024 Grammys, only for Swift to pull a fast one and announce Poets instead. Since Lover was released in 2019, Swift hasn’t gone more than 12 months without putting out an album. It’s usually only been a few months. She’ll give Poets time to breathe, so I doubt we’ll hear anything about Reputation (TV) until August, at the earliest. August 20 is the last date of the European leg of the Eras Tour, followed by a two-month gap until the Miami dates. Swift announced 1989 (TV) during the final show at SoFi Stadium before traveling to a different country — might she do it again?

My only predictions for Taylor Swift (TV) are 1) it will come after Reputation (TV), 2) it will be a surprise drop, and 3) “Crazier” better be on it. That’s not so much as a prediction as a demand, but I take these things very seriously.

Distant Future

The longest Swift has gone between new albums is a little over three years (the gap between 1989 and Reputation is three years and 14 days). Lately, it’s been two years: folklore and evermore in 2020, Midnights in 2022, and The Tortured Poets Department in 2024, with the Taylor’s Version albums in between. But seeing as Poets is basically as long as folklore and evermore combined, she may want to take extra time off, especially once the Eras Tour is over. Or maybe not!

Swift described Poets as a chapter of her life that’s “now over, the chapter closed and boarded up.” She seems to be very much in love with Kelce, and their cinnamon roll romance could be all the inspiration she needs to get back into the studio as quickly as possible.

But will Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner be there with her? The Bleachers and The National members have been the primary producers on Swift’s last four albums (Antonoff’s work history with her dates back even further, to the 1989 sessions), so it’s time to shake things up a little and try a different vibe. Is “So High School” a tease that a much-coveted rock album could be next? That’s the direction I (and many others) would like her to go next, but Taylor loves to defy expectations. So, really, anything in the distant future is possible.

Only one thing’s for sure: album #13 is going to be her best album yet.

Chance the Rapper Fights Out Of A Tight Spot In His Epic, Self-Directed ‘Buried Alive’ Video

Chance The Rapper has begun the rollout for his album Star Line Gallery in earnest with its first single and music video, “Buried Alive.” In the single, Chance contemplates the bumpy road of the last six years, from falling out with his manager to getting a divorce, comparing the weight of these struggles to the titular condition. However, he also details how he managed to make it out: By using his main talent, which he compared to the escape plan enacted by Uma Thurman’s “Bride” character in Kill Bill.

The video, which takes takes inspiration from that film and the 2010 Ryan Reynolds vehicle Buried — and seemingly some unexpected sources like anime space operas Space Battleship Yamato and Macross and the Indiana Jones films — depicts this struggle visually, as Chance punches his way out of what appears to be a coffin. Once he’s busted out of those confines, though, he quickly discovers he may have just jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire when it turns out the “coffin” was actually a crate in a cargo hold. Dodging security guards, Chance goes to a porthole, where he learns he’s not just lost at sea — he’s in a spaceship, cruising through the blackness of space. The video ends on that cliffhanger, suggesting that there might be more of this narrative in store as he continues the rollout for his new project.

Did Joyner Lucas Try To Start A Fake Beef With DaBaby?

joyner lucas

If anybody had to hazard a guess about why beef is so prevalent in hip-hop right now, they might conclude it’s just good business. After all, Future and Metro Boomin’s We Don’t Trust You song “Like That” debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 behind Kendrick Lamar’s fiery challenge to Drake and J. Cole, and J. Cole’s corresponding response, “7 Minute Drill,” debuted in the top five, despite being deleted just a week after its release. So, there might be a method to the mayhem — and apparently, it’s inspiring plenty of imitators, according to DaBaby.

In a recent interview with Shaquille O’Neal (cancel culture ain’t real, y’all), DaBaby maintained that amid all the chaos, he was contacted by another rapper with a business proposition: Start a fake beef to generate buzz. DaBaby didn’t reveal who the other rapper was — only allowing that it was a “lyricist” — and said he turned him down out of respect, not wanting to work his way into a shoot (basically, start off with a fake beef and end up in a real one). However, plenty of fans on Twitter (never calling it “X”) had a theory of the instigator’s identity: Joyner Lucas.

Enough users have posited Joyner as the culprit that he even felt he had to defend himself in the comments of DJ Akademiks’ post about it. “Man why tf everyone in comments saying it’s me?” he wrote.

Well… It certainly seems like the sort of thing he’d do. We all remember the back-and-forth he got into with Tory Lanez back in 2018, to say nothing of his longstanding beef with Logic, which he admitted in 2020 was caused by “jealousy.” He’s also the rapper who came to public notoriety thanks to high-concept swings like the viral “I’m Not Racist,” which attempted to make sense of recent protests from the perspective of a concerned white observer.

RM Of BTS Announces His New Album ‘Right Place, Wrong Person’ And Its Release Date

The boys of BTS continue to keep the Army fed. Though the members are each serving mandatory time in the Korean military, they have each been sharing solo albums to tide fans over in the meantime. Today (April 25), member RM announced his second album, Right Place, Wrong Person.

The news arrived via BTS‘ home label, BigHit Music. who issued a statement via WeVerse.

Right Place, Wrong Person is an 11-track album that captures some of the universal emotions that we all experience at some point in life, such as the feeling of being an outsider who doesn’t fit in,” read the statement.

The statement said the album will fall into “the alternative genre” and contain “frank, honest lyrics.”

Right Place, Wrong Person arrives less than two years after RM’s solo debut, Indigo. The album reached No. 10 on the Billboard 200.

At the time of writing, no singles or collaborators for Right Place, Wrong Person have been announced. But we can expect this to be a raw and vulnerable project.

In a November 2023 interview with 032c Magazine, RM opened up about his creative process and his desire to spark change.

“I’m not a narcissistic person, and I’ve always been driven by my own insecurity,” RM said. “I’m a person who has so much dirt, filth, love, kindness, and consideration in me that I feel I would go insane if I didn’t bring it out candidly into the world, in some way. And I’m a person who wants to change something, whether it’s myself, people around me, the industry, or the world.”

Right Place, Wrong Person is out 5/24 via BigHit Music.

How Many Episodes Are In ‘Knuckles’ Season 1?

Knuckles is not just a stubborn little red version of everyone’s favorite hedgehog, he’s also a very talented actor. So talented that he stole the show from his pal Sonic and somehow landed his own series on Paramount+.

The infamous echidna leads the limited series Knuckles , which takes place in between Sonic The Hedgehog 2 and the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog 3, which hits theaters this December. Idris Elba returns to voice the iconic character who was first introduced in the 1994 video.

The limited series will consist of six episodes, all of which will premiere on Paramount+ on Friday, April 26, at 12:00 a.m. PT / 3:00 a.m. ET.

Elba calls playing the little guy a “real honor” because he was able to make his voice unique. “We were playing Sonic in the early nineties, and we came across Knuckles,” Elba recently told Ebony. “It felt like a real honor to me to be up to have this opportunity to put a voice to him. By the way, I didn’t know what he sounded like. I got a chance to create his voice.” Luckily Elba has the best speaking voice in Hollywood.

Here is the official synopsis for the series:

The new live-action event series follows Knuckles (Idris Elba) on a hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade (Adam Pally) as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior. Expert says this one odd laundry habit could indicate ADHD

If you were to walk into your bedroom right now, what are the odds that you’d see clothes that never quite made themselves into actual outfits piling up on the floor? Perhaps they are sitting next to—or are even mixed in with—clothes that you did wear once throughout the week that aren’t quite dirty, but for some reason can’t make their way back into your closet.

If this sounds familiar, then you have what’s known on social media as a “floordrobe.” And sure, the phenomenon is common enough to warrant a slang term, but according to experts it could indicate neurodivergence—ADHD, specifically.

In a TikTok video that has been watched almost 5 million times, ADHD coach Jeff Rice explained that this type of clutter, be it actual piles of clothes on the floor or a laundry basket “that just sits there for days and days or weeks,” happens to folks with ADHD for two reasons.

“The first has to do with the clothes which are not quite dirty. Usually we leave these things out because it’s going to act as a visual cue to remind us ;this is not quite dirty and I want to wear it again,” he said.

However the problem with visual cues is that “we become visually adapted to them,” Rice noted. And after we’ve adapted to seeing these cues, we no longer act on them.

The second common reason is that it’s neither interesting nor urgent, and so it gets put off until it does at least become urgent, like when there are no more clean socks.

While it might be hard for any of us to focus on boring tasks, it can be physiologically impossible for those with ADHD. We have enough research now to prove that it has nothing to do with laziness or unwillingness, and everything to do with different brain wiring that comes with its own advantages and disadvantages.

And thankfully, Rice has a few ADHD-proof strategies that have helped him with the floordrobe issue, which can possibly help others.

@jeff_coachyouradhdbrain It seems like many people with ADHD have challenges dealing with laundry.  The clean laundry, and the “not quite dirty and I’ll probably wear it again” laundry tends to accumulate and create clutter.  This laundry clutter is often called our “floordrobe”.  Here are two thoughts on how to tackle this kind of clutter. #laundry #clutter #organizationhacks #adhd #adhdtiktok ♬ original sound – Jeff Rice – Author, ADHD Coach

First, he put “parameters” on which of the not-quite-dirty clothes can stay out. “For example, if I’m leaving a sweatshirt sitting on the edge of the tub in the bathroom because I’m planning on wearing it tomorrow, great. If I don’t wear it tomorrow I either have to put it away or just put it in the dirty clothes,” he says.

As for putting away clean clothes, Rice decided to tackle his warped ability to gauge how long a task might take, commonly known in the ADHD community as time blindness.

“Whenever I look at a basket of laundry, I think, ‘Oh my gosh, this is going to take forever to put away,’” he said. “And objectively, it’s not true. One of the ways that I attacked this was, at one point, I had three baskets of laundry sitting in my closet and I didn’t want to put them away. So I decided to check to see how long does it really take for me to put away three baskets of laundry. The answer — 21 minutes. I set a timer, and I timed myself while I put them away ― seven minutes per basket.”

Rice shared how having the hard data help transform the emotionally overwhelming concept of “forever” into a very manageable “seven minutes” made all the difference.

“It actually makes it easier for me to look at it when I don’t want to do it, take a breath, and think intellectually ‘it’s only seven minutes.’”

And obviously, while Rice says that floordrobes are a “universal sign” of ADHD, there are plenty of other causes. Everything from depression to simply a lack of storage space could leave us making clothing piles from times to time. Still, having ways to declutter when life or our own brain chemistry seems to be working against us can help us better navigate the tough times.

‘American Idol’ contestant performs epic rockstar cover of ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’

In a sea of extremely talented singers, it’s the vocalists who can take a song (even those performed by one-of-a-kind artists) and truly make it their own that, time after time, seem to really stand out on “American Idol.”

And Sam Kelly-Cohen, aka Kayko, is no exception. The 23-year old Florida singer-songwriter wowed judges and made it to the Top 10 round with his pop punk cover of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know”…which is guaranteed to transport you right back to the days of emo bands and heavy eyeliner.

From beginning to end, Kayko gave rockstar energy—complete with mic swings, energetic kicks, and jumping up and down to hype up the audience. These bits of flair apparently came with risks, as he voiced concerns to celebrity guest mentor Meghan Trainor about pitch issues with live performances.

But clearly the effort paid off because for a moment, it felt like audiences were watching a “My Chemical Romance” Concert, rather than a singing competition show.

As one viewer on Youtube put it, “He’s extremely creative in his performance as well as is resourceful, utilizing the entire stage, lights, wardrobe, etc. His stage presence and ability to entertain his audience and keep them entertained through the entire song is also very strong.”

Watch:

Wow! Kayko Covers Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” – American Idol 2024

And to think , this guy never really intended to audition. Kayko originally arrived to Nashivlle for first-round auditions to play piano for his friend, who was auditioning for the show. But the judges asked him to audition as well. And, well, here we are, watching him rock out to Gotye.

Gotye’s smash hit seems to be having a bit of a resurgence. Only a few months ago, the song found viral fame again after international dance troupe CDK gave it a surreal, Wes Anderson-esque reimagining. Perhaps the song’s intentional simplicity, which helped make it so alluring in the first place, is also the key ingredient that makes it easy to interpret in countless different ways.

While Wouter “Wally” De Backer, aka Gotye himself, didn’t love the fame that came with the success of his song (read more on that here) hopefully seeing how it has inspired other artists is a good consolation.

And if the covers are anything like Kayko’s, keep ‘em comin’!

35 Shakespearean insults to take down your enemies and crack up your friends

As history’s most famous poet and playwright, William Shakespeare had a way with words. His sonnets have been memorized and recited by innumerable students—”Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?”—and his comedies and tragedies have been adapted and performed on stage and film countless times in the 460 years since his passing.

But one place Shakespeare’s talent shines the most—or at least entertains the most—is in his insults. The colorful characters he created frequently throw verbal barbs across the stage at one another, and they’re still epic zingers, even today.

Insults take many styles and forms, from friendly ribbing to subtle jabs to roundabout roasts to direct hits, and Shakespeare utilized them all. And the beauty of playing with The Bard’s insults in the modern day is that you can use them to confound people you have a beef with as well as crack up your friends in playful banter.

Imagine telling the person who won’t stop pestering you, “Away, you three-inch fool!” Or saying to your bestie who drank the soda you were saving, You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe!” Or calling to your slowpoke kiddos in your best English accent, “Come, come, you froward and unable worms!”

There’s just loads of fun to be had with Shakespearean insults, so choose some favorites to commit to memory and whip out unexpectedly when the occasion arises:

1. “How now, thou crusty batch of nature!”

– Troilus and Cressida (Act 5, scene 1)

2. “I’ll beat thee, but I would infect my hands.”

Timon of Athens (Act 4, Scene 3)

3. “Thine face is not worth sunburning.”

Henry V (Act 5, Scene 2)

4. “Thou lump of foul deformity”

Richard III (Act 1, Scene 2)

5. “Thou subtle, perjur’d, false, disloyal man!”

The Two Gentlemen of Verona (Act 4, Scene 2)

6. “Thou whoreson zed, thou unnecessary letter!”

King Lear (Act 2, Scene 2 )

7. “That poisonous bunch-back’d toad!”

Richard III (Act 1, Scene 3)

8. “Thou damned and luxurious mountain goat.”

Henry V (Act 4, Scene 4)

9. “Thou elvish-mark’d, abortive, rooting hog!”

Richard III (Act 1, Scene 3 )

10. “Thou sodden-witted lord! Thou hast no more brain than I have in mine elbows “

Troilus and Cressida (Act 2, Scene 1)

11. “Would thou wert clean enough to spit upon.”

Timon of Athens (Act 4, Scene 3)

12. “You, minion, are too saucy.”

The Two Gentlemen of Verona (Act 1 Scene 2)

13. “I do desire we may be better strangers.”

As You Like It (Act 3, Scene 2)

14. “I am sick when I do look on thee.”

A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Act 2, Scene 1)

15. “Thou damned and luxurious mountain goat.”

Henry V (Act 4, Scene 4)

16. “His wit’s as thick as a Tewkesbury mustard.”
