Parents share their kids’ hilarious reactions to learning about how sex works

One of the greatest parenting milestones is the day you get to explain to your children the basics of sex. Sometimes that day arrives because a kid bluntly asks how babies are made, sometimes parents bring it up so their kids to hear it from them before they hear it from other people, and sometimes it’s a result of an unexpected encounter (like a kid walking in on their parents doing the deed).

However you arrive at it, that initial conversation is always interesting. No matter how prepared you think you are, some awkward hilarity is inevitable as you navigate those new waters. Sex is pretty simple on the one hand, but quite complicated on the other, and figuring what details to share at what stage is a tricky balancing act.

Some kids are open and curious and ask a million questions. Some kids are quiet and reserved and process it all in their own sweet time. But the first reaction of most pre-pubescent kids when they first hear about the mechanics of sex, even if you introduce it in a sex-positive way, is something along the lines of “What?? Are you serious? EW.” And when they connect the dots that their parents had sex in order for them to be alive, the reaction gets even funnier.

A thread on Twitter illustrates how true this is as parents share their children’s reactions to hearing about the birds and the bees.

A thread on Twitter illustrates how true this is as parents share their children’s reactions to hearing about the birds and the bees.

Clearly, Megan has three kids. Logic.

Some kids let questions slip out before thinking about whether they really want to know the answer. Once you know it, you can’t unknow it. Sorry, kiddo.

@meganmuircoyle On a summer walk my 1 boy(9) was asking ? about sex & I explained everything. My husband was away f… https://t.co/0hHQQxUFgt— arlene geerlinks (@arlene geerlinks) 1612372163.0

Parents have to be prepared for awkward questions, but sometimes you really can’t predict what a kid might want to know. Kids aren’t exactly known for having boundaries, and that’s doubly true for a topic that’s totally new for them.

Most of us don’t like to imagine our parents having sex, so this is one area where kids who are adopted have somewhat of an advantage (until they learn that procreation isn’t the only reason people have sex).

“@meganmuircoyle My kids are adopted, and I once heard, “Well, at least you guys didn’t have to do THAT!””

“@meganmuircoyle My kid learned about it in the backseat at Target in a spur of the moment conversation. We got home and she goes up to her Dad, “YOU STUCK YOUR PENIS IN MOM’S VAGINA TWICE!!!””

It’s not just the questions, but the declarations that come along with kids learning about sex that can take parents by surprise.

“@meganmuircoyle @bames_jrolin My nephew was about 7 when he got this info. At the next big holiday dinner he spontaneously stood up on his chair, flexed his biceps and loudly announced, “I am strong and healthy and full of sperm!””

It’s always entertaining to see a kid’s understanding move from innocence to reality.

@meganmuircoyle when he got older I told him about the cervix, contractions, labour etc and he was like “oh. okay.… https://t.co/u7mnCiVYUg— L. (@L.) 1612384726.0

And even more entertaining when you realize that you were the one who inadvertently introduced your kid to a sexual concept you may not have been prepared to discuss.

“@fitz_lorie @meganmuircoyle @JoJoFromJerz I asked my mom the same question around the same age. She wanted to know where I had heard such a word from. Ummm from you and my aunt talking the other day. 😂😂😂😂 She never asked that question again! It’s important to know I was raised Southern Baptist! 😂”

And then there are the unintentional misunderstandings that occur when kids don’t get quite enough information.

Perhaps the funniest part about talking about sex with kids is how actually kind of weird the physical act really is when you think about it. Of course it seems absurd to children who haven’t sexually developed yet.

In fact, some kids find it so weird, they literally don’t believe it.

Like, what the heck with this design? And they don’t even know at this point about the nitty-gritty details that you only really know once you’ve done it.

As funny as these stories are, the fact that parents are having open and honest conversations with their kids about sex is seriously awesome. Some people do their kids a disservice by being too creeped out to talk about it, or maybe worrying they’ll give too much info, so they don’t talk about it.

Whatever your moral perspectives on the topic, sex is part of life. It’s basic health and biology. It’s a human reality that everyone learns about one way or another, and it’s generally better for kids to learn about sex from their parents than from their peers, who might give wrong information. Starting early by answering kids’ questions matter-of-factly, giving age-appropriate details (which admittedly can be hard to discern), and bringing up the topic occasionally if your kids don’t can help kids ease into a healthy understanding of sex.

While the basic mechanics conversation is indeed a parenting milestone, the best parent-child conversations about sex are ongoing and ever-expanding. Making consent and boundaries part of the conversation is vital as well. Some uncomfortable moments may be inevitable, but keep the line of communication wide open will go a long way toward helping kids prepare for what’s to come.

Jon Hamm Sure Wouldn’t Mind Being In One Of Those MCU Movies Or Shows If They’re Game

Jon Hamm Nude Hot Tub Fargo
FX

Jon Hamm sure has had a rich post-Mad Men life. He’s done comedy. He’s the new Fletch. He’s even gotten fake nipple rings to play a Trumpy loose cannon sheriff on Fargo. In general, he’s killing it. One thing he hasn’t done is comic book movies. Why is that? And is it too late to give him a cape?

In a new interview with Screen Rant, Hamm talked about if he’d ever join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He almost did a Marvel movie once: He was courted for the role of Mister Sinister in a sequel to The New Mutants, before the Sony wing of Marvel consumed by Disney. But could it happen again? If they’re into it, he said he’d “love to.” But this ain’t his call.

“Those decisions get made at such a high level at this point, definitely above my pay grade,” he said. But he and them go way back. “I’ve been a fan of Marvel Comics and comics in general since I was probably single digits. I think there are tons of stories that I’m familiar with, at least, that are still out there to be told.”

He added, “Hopefully, whatever their plans are, they include me. But if not, I know that they have a pretty deep bench of folks that are ready to be a part of those stories. There are certainly a lot of stories in the X-Men world to be told. Fantastic Four as well, [like] Doctor Doom. There are so many great things out there. But yeah, I hope I get a chance. Who knows?”

It’s odd talking about some big time actor joining the MCU now, what with comic book movies underperforming. Right now it looks like their latest movie, The Marvels, may not even crack the $100 million mark domestically, which is jaw-dropping considering they used to be a sure-thing. Maybe the franchise just needs some Hamm.

Tiffany Haddish Is Already Making Jokes About Her Alleged DUI Bust During Stand-Up Sets

Early Friday morning Tiffany Haddish was arrested by the Beverly Hills Police Department on suspicion of driving under the influence. The comic and actress was allegedly not actually in the midst of driving. Rather, reports say she was found asleep at the wheel, her car parked but the engine running. She was taken into custody, but she’s already out and already making jokes about it.

TMZ obtained audio of a set Haddish made at the Laugh Factory in Long Beach Friday night, mere hours after her arrest. At one point someone in the crowd asked her about what happened the previous night, when she’d also been performing at the same comedy club, before being taken into custody.

“I dunno, you tell me,” Haddish demurred. Then she leaned into it. “I prayed to God to send me a man with a job, preferably in uniform. God answered my prayers. Because God believes in me.”

As it happens, Haddish made basically the same joke on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last year, when she was also busted for a DUI after falling asleep in her car in Georgia.

“I can say this, Jimmy. I’ve been praying to God to send me a new man. A good man,” Haddish told Fallon. “And God went ahead and sent me four — in uniform. I wasn’t expecting it. I was not expecting that at all.”

What’s Popular On Streaming Now

The Curse
Showtime

Every single week, our TV and film experts will list the most important ten streaming selections for you to pop into your queues. We’re not strictly operating upon reviews or accrued streaming clicks (although yes, we’ve scoured the streaming site charts) but, instead, upon those selections that are really worth noticing amid the churning sea of content. There’s a lot out there, after all, and your time is valuable.

TIE: 10. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple TV+ series)

Godzilla devotes (and I know you are out there) will somehow be able to enjoy three different raging-lizard projects within the next few months, but this show has something that the other two takes do not: Kurt Russell joins forces with freaking Godzilla. Wyatt Russell also stars with both Russells portraying Army officer Lee Shaw, and these two kick so much ass that you’ll forget all about the nepo baby thing while watching.

TIE: 10. Five Nights At Freddy’s (Blumhouse film streaming on Peacock)

Blumhouse rarely misses at the box office, but this victory was especially sweet because this Josh Hutcherson-starring movie sold tons of tickets and streamed like crazy on Peacock with the same release day. Video game adaptations are also largely hitting the mark this year, and as gamers know, this story doesn’t involve a peaceful little night at work for a security guard. Animatronic horror villains are no less scary than homicidal dolls like M3GAN, so expect to see more of both.

9. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (Netflix anime series)

This anime revival series follows the Edgar Wright film of yesteryear and is also based upon Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novel series. The original cast returns in voice from, too, so get ready for more Aubrey Plaza in your consciousness as well as Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Chris Evans, Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick, Brie Larson, Jason Schwartzman, Ellen Wong, Alison Pill, and Mae Whitman. The subject matter is slightly updated for today’s audience, but don’t worry, the spirit of the source material lives on.

8. Oppenheimer (Universal Pictures movie for purchase on Amazon Prime)

Christopher Nolan’s cinematic return to prominence isn’t available on a streaming service yet (most likely it will land on Peacock), but you can go the VOD route and enjoy the Barbenheimer phenomenon in your own home. Cillian Murphy’s eyes truly carry the weight of the world in this film with an endless array of marvelous supporting players including Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., Emily Blunt, Alden Ehrenreich, and Matt Damon. As one might expect in a film about the father of the atomic bomb (which ultimately ended World War II), this is not light and frothy viewing, but Nolan hopes it will act as a warning for other humanity-altering advances in technology.

7. Fargo (FX series streaming on Hulu)

Jon Hamm, need we say more? Alright, we will. This season stars Hamm and his enormous belt buckle as this season’s most eccentric lawman. The season co-stars Juno Temple, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Lamorne Morris, Joe Keery, Richa Moorjani, Jessica Pohl, Nick Gomez, David Rysdahl, and Sam Spruell — all as characters bearing names even more flowery than the actors themselves. There are nipple rings involved these days, and that’s alright. It’s Fargo, so you knew it was gonna be weird.

6. A Murder at the End of the World (FX series streaming on Hulu)

Emma Corrin transforms into a Gen Z amateur sleuth as Darby, who is one the not-so-lucky participants in a gathering held by a reclusive billionaire portrayed by Clive Owen, who isn’t afraid to be bad, but he’s very good here. The show’s set-up is reminiscent of a Glass Onion-style whodunnit but heads toward an exploration of tech that could strike a chord in our current times. Also, enjoy the bonus Harris Dickinson of the upcoming The Iron Claw. He’s everywhere these days.

5. The Crown (Netflix series)

The British critics are, unsurprisingly, not thrilled with the four new episodes that follow Princess Diana’s final months as the prestige series finally confronts the royal elephant in the room. Yes, this is a controversial season, but the show walks a careful balance with impressive grace, even with the Ghost Diana phenomenon. So much could have gone wrong with the recounting and dramatization of tragic events that shook the world, but Diana’s strength prevails even beyond the end of her life.

4. Blue Eye Samurai (Netflix series)

Quentin Tarantino devotees will love this animated series that favors many of the same influences, including the elements of revenge and choreographed violence, along with an unapologetically kickass leading female character. The story takes place in 16th century Edo-period Japan, where a young warrior is driven to seek vengeance. Mizo is a mixed-race sword master, and she conceals herself, including those blue eyes and her gender, while undertaking her mission. You’re in good hands with creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green (Blade Runner 2049, Logan), and you might even have a hard time deciding whether you enjoy the sensual aspects or the fight scenes more. It’s a good problem to have while watching TV.

3. The Curse (Showtime series streaming on Paramount+)

Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder are here to parody the hell out of HGTV-style shows with a horror-style twist. Kinda like Sam Raimi’s Drag Me To Hell but with A24 involved and The Property Brothers hopefully being shaded into oblivion before the end. In all seriousness, this series is a trip and was created by Fielder and Benny Safdie, who delight in bending genres like it’s no big thing. You’ll never watch House Hunter or Fixer Upper the same way again.

2. Leo (Netflix movie)

Adam Sandler has only cranked out several Netflix flicks over the last few years, and the people keep coming. Here, he voices an aged lizard who’s about had it up to here with living in a terrarium with a turtle voiced by Bill Burr. This movie actually ends up seeing the lizard pursue his bucket list of items, and what the hell is going on here? It’s bizarre fun for the whole family.

1. The Killer (Netflix film)

Michael Fassbender loves intense gigs, and here, he’s an assassin whose story is peppered with over a dozen songs from The Smiths. This killer, however, not only does yoga for a David Fincher movie but also ends up getting too self-involved with one of his projects. Could this be a fatal flaw? This lean and mean film did the festival circuit and has now swiftly landed in your living room to watch at home. Also enjoy all of the Fassbender aliases, which include Archibald Bunker. Hmm.

CM Punk Made His Surprise Return To WWE At Survivor Series: WarGames

WWE

Randy Orton made his return to the WWE in the main event at Survivor Series: WarGames. But he wasn’t the only big return on the evening, because after the match, CM Punk’s music hit to signify that the Best in the World is officially back in WWE.

Seth Rollins started the match off strong against Finn Bálor before the numbers game caught up to him as JD McDonagh entered the fray. Jey Uso evened things up with a chair before Damian Priest got in the mix with a baton. The crowd erupted when Sami Zayn hit the ring with a table and Drew McIntyre joined the mix shortly thereafter, clearing the ring and getting his hands on Uso.

Cody Rhodes then made his way to the ring and took out Judgement Day members left and right before teasing dissension with Rollins. With both teams at a stalemate, Dominik Mysterio gave his team the advantage momentarily before being everyone turned their attention to him. Rollins picked up Mysterio to powerbomb him through a table, but the Judgement Day made the save.

After the Judgement Day took out each member one by one, Priest powerbombed Rollins through a table. After the clock hit zero, Rhea Ripley came running down to cash in Money in the Bank before Randy Orton’s music hit.

Orton slithered his way to the ring for the first time since undergoing double fusion back surgery. He went one by one through each member of the opposition before facing off with McIntyre and getting hit from behind by Priest. Orton’s entire team hit stereo middle rope DDTs and teased an RKO to Uso before hitting one on Mysterio. After a Helluva Kick to McIntyre and an Uso Splash, the team chased McDonagh up the cage.

Zayn and Uso tossed him to Orton for an RKO before Rhodes hit Cross Rhodes on Mysterio for the pinfall.

As for what happened after the match, “Cult of Personality” hit and Punk emerged. While it’s unclear what he’ll be doing now that he is back in WWE, Punk’s return comes following his exit from AEW earlier this year.

Washington Kicker Grady Gross Got A Scholarship After Drilling The Game-Winning Field Goal Against Washington State

grady gross
Twitter

It’s really hard to have a better day than Grady Gross did on Saturday. Gross, a sophomore kicker for the Washington Huskies who joined the program last year, has served as the team’s starting kicker during the 2023 campaign. And he came up big in the team’s most important moment of the season, as Gross got sent out for a 42-yard field goal at the very end of the team’s rivalry game against Washington State.

Despite missing a kick from 43 yards earlier in the game, Gross lined up and drilled this effort. It meant that the Huskies won the Apple Cup and moved to 12-0 on the season, which keeps their hopes of an undefeated season and a berth in the College Football Playoff on the line.

The catch: Gross is not a scholarship player, as he walked on to the team last year and has kept that distinction throughout this season. But after the game, Washington coach Kalen DeBoer did the only reasonable thing a coach could do in this situation and announced to the entire team that Gross is now on scholarship.

It’s always so cool seeing a walk-on learn they’re being given a scholarship — just look at how much it means to him and the rest of his teammates — but considering the stakes of what Gross did before he learned the news, this one is probably a little extra sweet.

Kirk Herbstreit And Chris Fowler Freaking Out Over Iron Bowl Ending Is One Of The Best Things You’ll See

kirk herbstreit and chris fowler
ESPN

Whether you watched the absolutely insane ending of the Iron Bowl alone in your house or in a crowded bar, chances are you were freaking out.

So, too, were ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler, as ESPN’s cameras captured in the booth.

Herbstreit and Fowler were in the final moments before their game between rivals Florida State and Florida began, a game with a ton of Playoff implications.

But one of their monitors in the booth was mercifully showing the end of the Iron Bowl between Auburn and No. 8 Alabama, a game that is usually crazy but was especially so this year.

Even after recovering an Auburn muffed punt at the Tigers’ 30-yard line, Alabama still trailed 24-20 with just 43 seconds left and facing a 4th and goal at the Auburn 31-yard line. A 4th and 31!

Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe danced around to wait for a receiver to come open, and the play just kept going and going until he finally found Isaiah Bond in the corner of Auburn’s end zone for the go-ahead touchdown.

The camera captured Herbstreit jumping up and down and turning around excitedly to playfully swipe at Fowler, who took his partner’s playful jabs in stride. Fowler continued to stare at the monitor, wide-eyed, mouth agape, still in disbelief.

In other words, they were all of us.

Alabama Won The Iron Bowl With A 31-Yard Fourth-And-Goal Touchdown In Final Minute

iron bowl
CBS

The Iron Bowl can’t help but be insane. During Saturday afternoon’s edition of the game, the Alabama Crimson Tide walked into Jordan-Hare Stadium hoping to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive needing a win. The Tide were not just on the ropes — it looked like the Auburn Tigers were going to land a knockout blow so long as they could get off the field on a fourth-and-goal from their own 31-yard line.

The Tigers, nursing a 27-24 lead with 32 seconds left, opted to rush two and have one man spy against Jalen Milroe, who sat back in the pocket and surveyed the entire field. Whether he saw Isaiah Bond in the corner of the end zone or chucked it and hoped for the best is unclear, but his prayer was answered. Milroe, unconcerned about a sack, let it fly, and Bond reeled it in in the corner for six.

It was nothing short of a miracle on the day of the 10-year anniversary of the Kick Six, and the Auburn sideline was nothing short of stunned.

With the win — it ended by a final score of 24-21 — the Crimson Tide moved to 11-1 ahead of next weekend’s SEC Championship Game against Georgia.

George Santos, Knowing He’s About To Be Expelled, Has Decided To Go Out Calling One Of His Chief Tormentors A ‘P*ssy’

George Santos
Getty Image

Is George Santos finally about to meet his comeuppance? The same has frequently been said about Donald Trump, and look at him now. But Santos isn’t Trump, and after a full year of revelations about his wacko backstory — and a beyond damning report by the House Ethics Committee — even he’s pretty sure he’s done-zo. But if he’s about to go out, he’s going to do it calling his enemies mean names.

Per The Daily Beast, the embattled GOP representative took part in a three hour tirade on what was once called Twitter Spaces. He remained, as ever, defiant.

“They want to kick me out of a job they didn’t put me in,” he said. “I’m not leaving. Come hell or high water, it’s done when I say it’s done.”

Is it, though? At another point during his epic tirade, he sounded a bit more like his future was out of his hands.

“I know I’m going to get expelled when this expulsion resolution goes to the floor,” Santos admitted. “I’ve done the math over and over, and it doesn’t look really good.”

Santos, who may be expelled after the House reconvenes post-Thanksgiving, has already announced that, no matter what happens, he won’t seek his job again. But his reasons for so, he claimed, weren’t what most would think.

“I’m not running for reelection, not because this was a damning report,” Santos charged. I’m not running for reelection because I don’t want to work with a bunch of hypocrites.”

During the livestream, Santos torched his colleagues on both sides of the aisle.

“Within the ranks of United States Congress there’s felons galore, there’s people with all sorts of shystie backgrounds,” Santos said. He claimed some of them are “more worried about getting drunk every night with the next lobbyists they’re going to screw” than enacting legislation.

Santos, though, reserved particular ire for one colleague in particular: House Ethics Committee Chairman Michael Guest, who introduced the resolution to boot him. He dared Guest to force an expulsion vote, telling him to “be a man and stop being a pussy and call the damn motion.”

Will that work? Will Santos be out on the street soon, making up all new creative lies about his past, all while fending off those 23 criminal charges awaiting him concerning things like wire fraud, identity theft, and money laundering? Or will he, like Trump, somehow weasel his way out of it, stronger than ever? We live in dumb times, so who’s to say?

According To Cher, She’s Finally Ready To Release Her Tell-All Memoir After ‘Totally Chickening Out’ In The Past
