Shaquille O’Neal makes his kids write a business plan before he’ll give them any of his money

The term “nepo baby” most often refers to the offspring of a successful Hollywood actor, but the term can more generally apply to those whose parents are at the top of other industry ladders.

The kids of Shaquille O’Neal, one of the NBA’s highest-paid players with a massive business empire, could certainly make the list. However, O’Neal is more concerned with teaching them the value of hard work—something all parents can relate to, even if they don’t have a net worth of $400 million.

Sticking to what he calls “respectable nepotism,” O’Neal told Insider that if his kids ever ask for money, they have to provide a solid “business plan” before he’ll consider offering.

“Since you want me to be the bank, I’m gonna do exactly what the bank is going to do to you,” he quipped.

via GIPHY

O’Neal told Insider that his eldest son Myles, for instance, didn’t receive equipment to help his pursuit of a DJ career until after his dad was convinced of his actual potential.

Now Myles has made a name for himself as a DJ—holding a residency at Wynn Las Vegas and headlining across the country. And according to his dad, “he’s done it by himself.”

All parents want to set their kids up for success in adulthood. But how to really do that is often a dilemma, particularly when it comes to striking a balance between coddling and neglecting.

There’s no denying that being born into wealth is a huge advantage, but even then, there’s the risk of missing out on important life lessons that build not only practical problem-solving skills but character.

It’s no wonder why many celebrity or high-profile parents do go out of their way to make sure their own kids don’t lose touch with reality.

Drew Barrymore, for example, famously doesn’t buy her kids Christmas presents but instead focuses on making memories during the holidays. Similarly, best-selling author Esther Wojcicki parents under the rule, “Don’t do anything for your kids that they can do for themselves.”

It goes without saying that being able to choose to withhold support in favor of opting for learning the value of hard work is in itself a luxury. But still, stories like these show two things. One, not all kids of celebrities are lazily mooching off of their parents’ affluence. And two, raising good humans who thrive is a very personal and customizable process.

Omar Apollo’s ‘Ice Slippin’ Single Will Accompany His Various Ice Sculptures Around The World

Some artists will go to extreme yet creative lengths to market their next album, tour, or song. Grammy Award-nominated singer Omar Apollo is among them. Instead of the traditional billboard announcement approach, Apollo and his team set out various ice sculptures around the world to generate hype behind his forthcoming single “Ice Slippin.”

After coming across the work of art, one fan, who was amused by Apollo’s efforts, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a laugh with the singer, writing “You’re so silly goofy for this bae 🤪, Omar Apollo.”

Apollo replied to that remark with a sassy comeback of his own, writing, “I kinda wish they gave me titties but
‘Ice Slippin’ [comes out on] August 25th. I’m seeing all the videos of everybody pullin’ up, and my heart is full. Love you 🥹.”

“Ice Slipping” will mark Apollo’s first release in over six months. His previous single, “3 Boys,” was shared in February. After its release, Apollo joined fellow singer SZA on the road as the opening support for the first wing of her SOS North American Tour.

Omar Apollo is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Roger Stone Appeared To Admit Trump Lost While On A Hot Mic For That Documentary He Let Happen

Why did Roger Stone let a documentary crew film him doing underhanded things during and after the 2020 election? We may never know, but maybe it’s best not to question the thinking of a guy with a Nixon back tattoo. Clips from A Storm Foretold, Danish filmmaker Christoffer Guldbrandsen’s film that Stone inexplicably let happen, have been trickling out over the last few weeks, and so far we’ve seen him bragging about how he likes to manipulate Donald Trump and straight-up plotting how to overturn the will of the people. Heck, there’s even audio of him seeming to admit the big guy lost.

As per Raw Story, Guldbrandsen debuted some more footage from his film on MSNBC. It shows the longtime GOP fixer moaning about not being invited to speak at the lead-up to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. At one point he and his crew are in what looks like a hotel room. Stone is in another room, but his mic is still on, catching him blurting out the truth.

“It’s very clear I was never on their list. Whole thing was a con job. No, it’s infuriation,” Stone tells the person on the other end. “Just, it’s just, childish and it’s amateurish. It’s why they lost. They don’t know what they’re doin’.”

Though the context isn’t clear, the audio strongly suggests Stone a) is slamming the Trump campaign and b) admitting he lost. Of course, Stone has publicly been saying nothing of the sort. He’s been crying election fraud. But every now and then even Trump himself accidentally says he didn’t beat Joe Biden, so maybe occasionally telling the truth is contagious among MAGA world.

Hollywood’s Favorite Beefy Boys Dave Bautista And Jason Momoa Are Teaming Up For A Buddy Comedy

If there is one thing Hollywood needs, it’s more men being men and doing manly things and having so many conversations. Just kidding! We obviously have enough of those, but what if we put two of those fan-favorite men together for a buddy comedy? Actually, that’s also happened a lot, but it’s fine. There’s a reason it works.

The latest duo to rub elbows on the big screen will be America’s Favorite Cool Dudes Who Also Starred In Dune: Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista, both known for being…very muscular in a semi-offputting way? They just look too strong for their own good.

The two will star in Wrecking Crew, and while details are under wraps, Blue Beetle director Angel Manuel Soto is attached to the project. Most recently, Bautista starred in A Knock At The Cabin and the latest installment in the Guardians of the Galaxy saga. Momoa is gearing up to release Aquaman And The Lost Kingdon this December after nearly 5 years of him hiding underwater to avoid the DC drama.

Unfortunately, we must give credit where credit is due: it seems that this idea was actually James Corden’s doing. The host suggested that the two actors work together in a Lethal Weapon-style movie two years ago. Too bad Corden won’t be around to see it happen. He’s not dead, just back in the UK.

Drake’s ‘For All The Dogs’ Album Cover Was Custom Designed By One Of The Rapper’s Favorite Artists

The It’s All A Blur Tour has not only been a significant payday thus far for Drake, but it has been a platform for him to share instant music updates with fans. On July 20, Drake revealed that his next album, For All The Dogs, would soon hit streaming platforms. Although he hasn’t revealed the official release date, Drake has hinted that it could feature collaborations with Bad Bunny and J. Cole.

On Monday, August 21, Drake took to Instagram to unveil the album’s cover, designed by one of his favorite artists, his 5-year-old son Adonis Graham. The young kid took some creative liberties with the album’s title. Instead of an adorable household canine, the image errs more on the side of a haunting werewolf, making the forthcoming project all the more intriguing.

Before Drake’s poetry book was released in June, he suggested that the literary work and his forthcoming album were linked, writing, “I made an album to go with the book. They say they miss the old Drake girl; don’t tempt me.” Below the message was the phrase, “For all the dogs.” Could this be the return of Drake’s certified lover boy era?

No further information is known about For All The Dogs at this time.

‘Oppenheimer’ Has Finally Found A Fierce Critic In Logan Paul, Who Walked Out Over All That Talking

Ever since it was released a month ago, Barbie has delighted audiences, who’ve turned it into a box office behemoth. Not everyone has been charmed: Members of the far right found themselves triggered by the aggressively pink comedy. But few have expressed scorn for Barbie’s release date-mate, Oppenheimer. One noted exception: YouTuber and wrestler Logan Paul.

On a recent episode of his podcast ImPaulsive, Paul told his guests, Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou, that he “walked out of Oppenheimer.” The pair were shocked, so Paul tried to explain himself.

“I didn’t know what they were trying [to do]. ‘What are you doing?’ Everyone’s just talking,” he said. “It’s just an hour and a half, 90 minutes, of talking, just talking, talking.” (It’s actually three hours of people talking, and at one point staring at an a-bomb test, but we’re going to assume he meant he bolted halfway through.)

Paul admitted it’s not the first time he had a rough go with a Nolan picture. He said he almost walked out of Interstellar after 18 minutes “because it was so slow.” But he stayed and it one of his “top three favorite movies.”

Oppenheimer hasn’t entirely escaped controversy. When the film’s Twitter account interacted with a “Barbenheimer” meme post, many Japanese people reacted with horror that they would make light of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The film currently has no release date in Japan.

Kind-hearted truck driver helps cat get back home after being missing for a year

BooBoo’s parents had all but given up, nearly a year after their beloved cat disappeared.

Vanore Voaklander and her husband were diligent after BooBoo disappeared during what was supposed to be a short trip outside from their home near Edmonton.

They searched local parks, put up posters and offered a reward. But still their cat was nowhere to be found.

“We were getting leads from all different neighborhoods. We would rush there and find out there would be no cat,” Voaklander told the Global News.

But the Global News reports that seemingly out of nowhere, tow-truck driver Darren Labelle spotted BooBoo wandering around near his shop, nearly 10 miles from his home.

Describing the cat as looking “sick, dirty and beaten up,” Labelle slowly began feeding BooBoo and offering him shelter inside.

“He’d actually jump up on us, head butt you and lay on my keyboard while I was trying to work,” Labelle said. “I realized this cat has to be domesticated.”

So, he put a photo of BooBoo up on a Facebook page for lost animals and within an hour the Voaklanders were on their way to rescue their beloved cat, whom they say slept for three straight days after getting back home.

Hero’s don’t always wear capes. Meet the rescuers. The world needs more people like this. We are forever grateful.

Couple looking for lost cat

They may never know what happened but they think someone may have stolen BooBoo then abandoned him. Regardless, they returned to give Labelle some thank you gifts, including a $1,000 reward.

Labelle initially declined, but now will use the money to help feed some of the other stray cats who have wandered near his shop looking for their own homes.

Women shared how they make sexist men explain their nasty jokes, and it’s so satisfying

Ask almost any woman about a time a man said or did something sexually inappropriate to them, and she’ll have a story or four to tell. According to a survey NPR published last year, 81% of women report having experienced sexual harassment, with verbal harassment being the most common. (By contrast, 43% of men report being sexually harassed. Naturally harassment toward anyone of any sex or gender is not okay, but women have been putting up with this ish unchecked for centuries.)

One form of verbal sexual harassment is the all too common sexist or sexual “joke.” Ha ha ha, I’m going to say something explicit or demeaning about you and then we can all laugh about how hilarious it is. And I’ll probably get away with it because you’ll be too embarrassed to say anything, and if you do you’ll be accused of being overly sensitive. Ha! Won’t that be a hoot?

Perhaps women’s familiarity with such episodes is why writer Heather Thompson Day’s tweet about asking her male boss to explain a sexual joke to her has had such an enormous response. Day told a story of working at a radio station when she was 19 when her boss, who was in his mid-40s, made an inappropriate comment:

“When I was 19 my boss said I should be a phone sex operator & laughed.

I said ‘I don’t get it’

He said ‘it’s a joke’

I said ‘explain it to me’

& that’s how I learned that once sexual harrassers have to explain why their inappropriate jokes are funny, they stop laughing.”

Day’s tweet has been shared more than 130K times. Other women also chimed in with similar stories of stopping sexist men in their tracks with their responses to inappropriate jokes.

RELATED: Woman’s explanation for being ‘standoffish to men in public’ brings up an important point about unwanted attention.

What’s baffling is that some men may think that women actually might respond positively to such jokes. One woman simply responds to random harassers with “Please tell me about the last time this worked on an actual woman for you.” Works every time.

Of course, sometimes it takes more than just a no nonsense response to get some dudes to back off.

RELATED: Emma Watson launches hotline that provides women legal advice on workplace sexual harassment

Sometimes it simply takes repeatedly being called out, especially if a man holds a position of power.

As one woman pointed out, it might take the threat of being documented to put an end to it. (Or, you know, actually documenting it can do wonders as well.)

Several men jumped into the conversation with words of support—and even a wicked burn about mansplaining.

Because of course plenty of men are bothered by sexist “jokes” as well and understand that genuine jokes can be explained without hesitation or embarrassment.

Men can also use a similar approach when confronting their friends, acquaintances, and colleagues when inappropriate comments or jokes come up.

In fact, Heather Thompson Day said it was her dad who originally instructed her on how to respond to men’s inappropriate comments. “Don’t laugh,” he told her. “Ask them to explain the joke. They will stop making them.” Well done, Dad.

It was also pointed out that this approach works with “jokes” that are racist, homophobic, or otherwise harmful as well. When people have to explain their prejudice and bigotry, they usually can’t.

And then there’s always the next level “You remind me of someone heinous” response, which may be a bit brutal, but is sometimes necessary to drive home the point.

People in marginalized groups have had to put up with hurtful jokes for far too long. Asking people to explain them and making them sit in the discomfort of their own filth is an excellent way to shut that garbage down.

Mom rips into husbands who expect their wives to do housework in crazy viral Facebook post

It’s the 21st century, and as a civilization, we’ve come a long way. No, there are no flying cars (yet), but we all carry tiny supercomputers in our pockets, can own drones, and can argue with strangers from all around the world as long as they have internet access.

And yet women are still having to ask their partners to help out around the house. What gives?

Recently, Blogger Constance Hall went on a highly-relatable rant about spouses assuming responsibility for housework, and women everywhere are all, “🙌 🙌 🙌 .”

Recently while bitching about the fact that I do absolutely everything around my house with a bunch of friends all singing “preach Queen”, someone said to me “if you want help you need to be specific… ask for it. People need lists, they aren’t mind readers.”

So I tried that, asking.. specifics..

“Can you take the bin out?”

“Can you get up with the kids? I’m just a little tired after doing it on my own for 329 years”

“Can you go to woolies? I’ve done 3 loads of washing and made breaky, lunch, picked up all the kids school books, dealt with the floating shit in the pond.”

And yeah, she was right… shit got done. But I was exhausted, just keeping the balls in the air.. remembering what needs to be asked to be done, constant nagging..And do you know what happened the minute I stopped asking…?

NOTHING.Again.

And so I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not your job to ask for help, it’s not my job to write fucking lists.

We have enough god dam jobs and teaching someone how to consider me and my ridiculous work load is not one of them.Just do it.Just think about each other, what it takes to run the god dam house.

Is one of you working while the other puts up their feet? Is one of you hanging out with mates while the other peels the thirtieth piece of fruit for the day? Is one of you carrying the weight?

Because when the nagging stops, when the asking dies down, when there are no more lists….All your left with is silent resentment. And that my friends is relationship cancer..It’s not up to anyone else to teach you consideration.

That’s your job.Just do the fucking dishes without being asked once in a while mother fuckers.

Hall’s post touches on the concept of emotional labor, which can be defined as “the process of managing feelings and expressions to fulfill the emotional requirements of a job.”

In other words, although Hall’s partner may be the one carrying out the tasks she assigns him, it is still Hall’s job to be the “manager” of the household, and keep track of what things need to get done. And anyone who runs a household knows that juggling and keeping track of chores is just as exhausting as executing them.

At time of publication, Hall’s post was shared nearly 100,000 times. That’s a lot of frustrated ladies!

When your girl Far Kew sends you the perfect present. You will find this and more cunty cups on her facebook page 👌🏽
Posted by Constance Hall on Thursday, November 30, 2017

Women in the comments section seemed to overwhelmingly agree with Hall’s post.

Let’s all learn to share the load…laundry and otherwise.
