‘Fast X’ Star Tyrese Gibson Is Suing Home Depot For $1 Million Over An Alleged Racial Profiling Incident

Tyrese Gibson has filed a $1 million lawsuit against Home Depot over allegations that the actor and two of his associates were racially profiled during a visit to the West Hills, California store earlier this year.

According to the lawsuit, the Fast and Furious star claims he’s spent $1 million at Home Depot over his lifetime, and he’s seeking that much in damages for himself and two other plaintiffs Eric Mora and Manuel Hernandez. The three allege they “experienced outrageous discriminatory mistreatment” while trying to complete a transaction at the California location.

PEOPLE reports that the incident occurred in February when Gibson and the two men who “regularly provide construction services” to the actor were spotted at the location by fans. Gibson informed a cashier that the two men are authorized to use his credit card as he attempted to retreat to this car. However, Gibson alleges that the cashier refused to allow Mora and Hernandez to complete the purchase, and a manager refused to speak to the actor.

After a “significant heated discussion,” the cashier finally completed the transaction. However, the incident was enough for Gibson to file suit and allege that the employee “purposely interfered with and refused to process the transaction based on their groundless suspicion of Gibson, Mora and Hernandez arising from their skin color, and in the case of Mora and Hernandez, their national origin.”

The lawsuit also claims that Home Depot “has refused to take any responsibility” for the incident and that the company “doubled down, lawyered-up, and treated Gibson, Mora and Hernandez and what happened to them as not worthy of any due consideration — instead inferring that they are the problem.”

“Diversity and respect for all people are core to who we are, and we do not tolerate discrimination in any form,” Home Depot said in a statement to PEOPLE. “We value Mr. Gibson as a customer, and in the months since this happened, we’ve reached out to him and his attorneys several times to try to resolve his concerns. We will continue to do so.”

Turnstile Recruit BADBADNOTGOOD For ‘New Heart Designs,’ An Experimental Reimagining Of ‘Glow On’ Songs

Earlier this week, Turnstile brought hardcore to baseball by throwing the first pitch at a Baltimore Orioles game. The band has been on the rise since their 2021 breakthrough Glow On, whether that’s by having a song in I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson or collaborating with Taco Bell.

The group is back with new music. They’ve teamed up with BADBADNOTGOOD for an EP titled New Heart Designs. It contains reimagined Glow On tracks, including “Mystery,” “Underwater Boi,” and “Alien Love Call” featuring Blood Orange. It serves as a chance for the band to delve further into experimental territory and mold the anthems into new forms.

Glow On was praised for incorporating new genres into their hardcore sound. They worked with Mike Elizondo, who’s known for working with icons like Dr. Dre, Fiona Apple, and Mastodon. “Mike is a stone-cold professional. Like, bro was Dr. Dre’s link, from what I gather, I think he was the only one really allowed to touch the button in the studio besides Dre,” bassist Franz Lyons told Uproxx. “I was in the panic room a little bit. But it was everything you would want to comfortably step outside of your comfort zone. It was all a sick-ass learning episode.”

They did a similar project for their 2018 LP Time & Space. It was followed by a three-song EP called Share A View, except it was with Mall Grab.

Why Did Two ‘Below Deck: Down Under’ Cast Members Get Fired?

The latest episode of Below Deck: Down Under sparked a wave of controversy this week after two crew members were fired from the Bravo series for sexual misconduct that was caught on camera.

Below Deck viewers watched as boatswain Luke Jones and second steward Laura Bileskalne were removed from the ship after entering the cabins of two other crew members without their consent. Both were immediately fired during the incidences that took reportedly took place a year ago during filming. The ship’s captain, Jason Chambers, acted quickly and decisively after learning about the misconduct.

In the case of Jones, the production team stopped an alarming moment that occurred after Jones and third stew Margot Sisson returned from a drunken night out. She could be heard telling Jones that she just wanted to go to sleep. “All I want is water and bed. No Luke.” He did not comply.

Via The Washington Post:

Soon Jones, who was naked at the time, was seen as he attempted to enter Sisson’s bed, despite her being unconscious and, as she recalled later in the episode, “blackout drunk.” Producers, who are not typically on the show, jumped into the scene and forced Jones out of the room despite his heavy protests, expletives and screams. He was then brought to his own quarters, where he locked himself inside.

After being informed of the incident, Chambers immediately went to Jones’ quarters and booted him off the ship. He was fired the next morning.

Bileskalne was also terminated for a similar incident. She was also caught on camera entering a crew member’s cabin without consent. Bileskalne made unwanted sexual advances towards deckhand Adam Kodra and had to be removed from his quarters by Below Deck producers.

Bileskalne also made light of the incident with Jones by joking to Sisson, whose room Jones entered, that “If he comes naked in my cabin I’d be, like, ‘Hello! Yes!’”

After learning of Bileskalne’s actions with Kodra and joking about Jones, Chambers fired her as well.

Bleached Is San Diego’s Newest Signature Festival

San Diego should be an ideal location for a summer music festival. While the rest of the US melts in “global boiling,” the Southern California city maintains a more temperate climate, aided by its latitude and ocean proximity. Still, aside from the steady success of CRSSD, it’s also the location of a music festival graveyard, where memories of events like San Diego Street Scene and Kaaboo feel less distant than they actually are. Sitting just to the south of Orange County, Los Angeles, and the Inland Empire, literally millions of music fans are right on San Diego’s doorstep, and it feels like the stars should align for there to be many thriving music festivals with national appeal.

Enter Bleached, the latest festival to give the region a shot. Making its debut in 2023 and using both the same team and location at CRSSD, this new event touched down on San Diego’s Waterfront Park over the weekend with a decidedly Gen-Z-appealing lineup. In fact, the lineup was fascinating in how it eschewed more tried-and-true festival fare in favor of music that’s seen its rise in the streaming era. Aging critics and music fans will often see acts like these on lineups and annoyingly wonder who are the fans that this is for, claiming that the music feels chosen by an algorithm. But, Bleached showed a growing divide between the artists that music publications prop up and those that actual young music fans enjoy.

There were a few artists that checked both boxes at Bleached. Indie-pop darling Ethel Cain, who released one of 2022’s most acclaimed albums in Preacher’s Daughter, was relegated to a 5pm second stage appearance at Bleached, but that didn’t mean the set was underattended or underappreciated — quite the opposite. Cain fully trusted the San Diego crowd to give her slow-building stunners the rapt attention they need, and passionate fans sang along at the top of their voice, often meeting Cain in volume. By the time Cain finished her performance, she made time for MANY weeping audience members, completely losing their shit at a chance to interact with the artist.

Other acclaimed crossover artists saw more mixed results. Caroline Polachek, fresh off the release of album of the year contender Desire, I Want To Turn Into You, gave her all on the Sunday main stage, but might have been a little miscast for the part. With a very young-skewing audience, her songs didn’t garner the reception that most of the other premier talent did, showing that the TikTok success of “So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings” hasn’t spread to the rest of her oeuvre. Polachek has had multiple eras in the spotlight, including her run with Chairlift, and certainly has built her own fanbase. But at Bleached, a disconnect appeared between the critically-approved tasteful pop of her albums and what can win over a young audience. Perhaps it was the pristine, TikTok-ready choreography that struck the audience as disingenuous, or maybe it was just the operatic vocals that evoke the meeting place between Elvish hymns and The White Lotus theme song that withered under the sunlight. Still, when she closed with her above-mentioned biggest hit, even the skeptical young people in the audience couldn’t help but dance along.

Yves Tumor, playing the second stage opposite Omar Apollo, had a different issue altogether: the vast majority of the crowd was simply occupied doing something else. Tumor and his band of avant-glam style icons began their set with a brief intro from former MTV personality Jessie Camp, and then leaned into their brand of weirdo indie. Tumor, for his part, performed part of the set in the shadows, facing the towering buildings side stage, and later patrolled the photo pit, taking drags from fans’ cigarettes and generally seeming like everything could fall apart at any moment. Having seen Tumor many times over the last few years, this was not the band at their most focused or best sounding, but even here at their most unhinged, it never ceased being captivating, Tumor looked around and saw the low stakes, meeting the moment head-on.

So what was successful at Bleached? Nearly everything else. Headliner and Uproxx cover star Leon Bridges might make timeless music, but he had no problem enthralling the youthful audience, sweeping them up with a tight set of soul, R&B, and rock and roll that defies generations. Omar Apollo won the award for the most filmed set, with a sea of phones appearing from the moment he took the stage. Remi Wolf was every bit the party-starter that her music implies, and Lizzy McAlpine saw nearly every song she performed screamed right back to her.

And for my money, the biggest revelation was Channel Tres. By no means the new kid on the block, the Compton producer/singer/rapper employed a pair of dancers and a clear focus to give the audience something that’s rare to experience at summer festivals: true performance art. Blending house and funk for a sonic presentation that feels very in place in the post-Renaissance world, Channel Tres managed a set that gave drama without feeling overly plotted, the music and performance working in tandem to show an artist in full control of his musical vision. It was electric.

In all, Bleached was a winning debut. Aided by perfect weather and gorgeous harbor views, the festival felt like the ideal intersection between large and local, ushering in buzzy new artists to the marquee positions they’ll soon be inhabiting on the national behemoths. Sure, there was room for growth — some big ticket culinary options could underscore the local-ness of this event even more, though I was plenty happy with Spicy Pie — but Bleached felt pretty fully-formed in its first outing. San Diego just might have just found their next signature festival.

Trump Has Spent A ‘Remarkable’ Amount Of Money On Legal Fees This Year As He Runs For President

One of the first things you see on Donald Trump‘s website is a big, red “contribute” button. “We have a country to save. And I’m not giving up now – and I know you aren’t either. As the never-ending witch hunts heat up, please make a contribution to defend our movement and SAVE America,” the page reads. The money raised won’t necessarily go towards Trump’s 2024 campaign, however: a good chunk of the donations are paying the billionaire’s “remarkable” legal bills.

The New York Times reports that “financial reports show that the former president’s various political committees and the super PAC backing him have used roughly 30 cents of every dollar spent so far this year on legal-related costs.” That’s more than $27 million in legal fees and “other investigation-related bills” in the first six months of 2023 alone.

Mr. Trump, buddy, could I borrow $24 million for Taylor Swift tickets? Thanks.

The new disclosures revealed the remarkable degree to which Mr. Trump’s political and legal cash are intermingled, much like his own political and legal fate. Mr. Trump’s complex political orbit is already spending more than it is taking in, and tapping into money it raised years ago — an unusual trajectory this far out from an election. And the burn rate raises questions about whether such an approach is untenable, or whether Mr. Trump will eventually need to dip into his own fortune to pay for his lawyers, his 2024 campaign or both.

“This is going to be an incredibly expensive proposition,” criminal defense lawyer Ben Brafman told the Times. “Not only is he now dealing with three separate jurisdictions, and nobody really knows which case is going to come first, but they all need to be investigated, researched, and prepared at the same time by his attorneys.”

Somehow between the lawsuits, indictments, legal expenses, and, oh yeah, running for president, Trump still finds time to golf seemingly every day.

Who Is Harry Styles’ Rumored New Girlfriend? Meet Taylor Russell

Harry Styles’ Love On Tour might’ve ended, but his romantic escapades are heating up. The “Daylight” singer and Don’t Worry Darling co-star Olivia Wilde’s relationship fizzled out, but Styles’ tattoo is a reminder of what once was. After a rumored fling with model Emily Ratajkowski, fans began speculating that the pair would go the distance. However, on Wednesday (August 9), the musician was spotted embracing a new mystery woman. So, who is Harry Styles’ rumored new girlfriend?

According to TMZ footage, the lucky lady is none other than actress Taylor Russell. The outlet reports that despite the couple being in the same vicinity on multiple occasions, including his Vienna, Austria, tour stop on July 8 when he was struck with an object while leaving the stage. Like Styles, Russell is an entertainment professional. The Vancouver native appeared in Netflix’s Lost in Space from 2018 to 2021, the Escape Room movie series, and the film Bones and All released last year, co-starring Timothée Chalamet.

Taylor Russell has maintained a relatively low profile when it comes to her dating history. However, the same can not be said for Harry Styles due to his superstar success. Neither has publicly commented on the rumors of their coupling.

That Chick Angel Recruits FendiDa Rappa, Flo Milli, And Sexyy Red To Keep The ‘One Margarita’ Party Going

If you follow Uproxx’s The Best New Hip-Hop This Week, you might have seen last week when I went on a mini-rant about That Chick Angel’s underrated summer song “One Margarita” being so overlooked. That may soon change; after releasing a remix with Saucy Santana last week, TCA follows up this week with a “Ladies Remix” version to keep the party going, recruiting FendiDa Rappa, Flo Milli, and her raunchy rap counterpart Sexyy Red, who has been on a roll lately after her own freaky hit “Pound Town” became a smash in its own right.

The new verses hit all the main points — mainly, that inebriation will, to quote Flo Milli, “turn them to hoes.” That Chick Angel even sneaks in some subtly impressive rhyme play, pairing “amorous” with “scandalous,” and preemptively cuts off all the smoke the song is sure to receive. “I know you hatin’ sayin’, ‘You a mom,’ but / Give me four margarita’s I’ma be my husband’s slut,” she wisecracks, shutting down critiques of the song’s freaky material. The coup de grace is at the end, when she admits, “I’m lyin’. Imma be sleep,” because anyone in a longterm relationship knows how that goes.

This single is seriously “song of the summer” material, but it also has staying power — it’s authentic and clever and relatable and all the other things that can make a song a fan favorite — and even if it doesn’t get its due before the leaves turn, I can see it being a fixture at resort clubs far into the future. Check it out above.

Timothy Olyphant Once Spent An Fine Evening At A Bar With The ‘Good Dude’ Who Previously Beat Him For ‘The Role That Got Away’

Once upon a hatless time (or at least a hat-break time after HBO’s original Deadwood series), Timothy Olyphant auditioned to be part of a 2009 blockbuster movie ensemble and ended up in consideration for a bigger role in the project. After some time, the swaggery actor found out out that the larger role went to a different actor, and that was just fine because Justified debuted in 2010 with Raylan Givens clearly being the role that Olyphant was always meant to play. And we should all thank our hat-inferior stars that things turn out this way because no one else could pull off that legendary presence on screen, and now, we’ve been gifted with the City Primeval followup series.

What was that “the role that got away,” as The Hollywood Reporter phrased the situation (while relaying this revelation from Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast)? That would be Captain Kirk in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek film, which was eventually followed by two sequels with all three installments starring Chris Pine in that coveted role. Actually, Olyphant hadn’t even aimed in that direction, but Abrams told him, “I don’t have a Kirk.’”

Olyphant felt that “he might have been prepared to hire me, but they wanted somebody younger,” and the rest was history. And that history included hanging out at a swanky event bar with Pine, as Olyphant described:

“I have since then met Chris Pine and I am a huge fan of him, both on- and off-screen. I love that guy,” he said of Pine. “He’s a good dude.”

He continued, “This sounds very show business-y, but I had the honor — we’re going to say honor — to go to the Golden Globes one year … and I spent most of the evening at the bar with Chris Pine. Just really really adored him. What a good guy. And I really like his work. He’s one of those guys who makes it look simple and easy.”

Everything worked out as planned, too. If Olyphant had scored the Kirk role, then he’d have been signed for at least another two movies (a fourth installment from Abrams still hasn’t happened), and there would be no way possible for him to star on FX’s six Justified seasons and the current City Primeval that also streams next-day on Hulu. The hat would not exist as we know it, and I don’t even want to think about that possibility.

Stephen King Predicts The Margot Robbie-Starring ‘Babylon’ Will Be Hailed As A Classic In 20 Years (Why Wait? It’s Great Now)

Barbie is expected to top the box office for a fourth weekend in a row, but Stephen King is thinking about another Margot Robbie movie.

“Maybe this says more about me than the film, but I thought BABYLON was utterly brilliant — extravagant, over the top, hilarious, thought-provoking. Might be one of those movies that reviews badly and is acclaimed as a classic in 20 years,” the author tweeted. He’s right to say it: Babylon is the kind of sprawling epic that doesn’t happen often these days (hopefully the success of Oppenheimer changes things). To quote a pre-Barbie Greta Gerwig movie, “They didn’t understand it.”

The Damien Chazelle film only made $63.4 million at the box office on a reported $80 million budget, but as King pointed out, it will find its audience — like a movie based on one of his own works.

Babylon is a movie that absolutely shouldn’t work, but objectively does, three hours and nine minutes that didn’t bore me for a single second,” Vince Mancini wrote in his review for Uproxx. “Instead, it sails, on the crest of a glorious wave of blood, sweat, tears, tits, shit, vomit, and piss.”

There’s a sex, drugs, Brad Pitt, a pooping elephant, old school Hollywood glamour, Jean Smart as a gossip columnist, and Margot Robbie doing the wildest dance since Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street. What are you waiting? Babylon is available on Paramount+, among other streaming options.
