Bedroom or living room parent? Mom sparks debate over where parents hang out in the house.

Mom and TikTok creator Marissa Kile recently brought up an interesting topic that no one ever discusses but significantly impacts how families interact. According to Kile, there are two types of parents, those who hang out in their bedroom and those who spend time in the living room.

Bedroom parents are comfortable keeping their kids at a distance while they relax. In contrast, living room parents are happy to have their children around during downtime.

“I grew up where like my parents hung out in their bedroom,” she explains in the video. “Like 24/7, they were never in the living room, okay? So, like, going into my parents’ bedroom was like a sacred thing. Like, you stood at the door, and you waited for permission to go in, okay?”

However, Kile always wished her parents were spending time with her in the living room. “I always wanted my parents to be in the living spaces with us,” she adds.

I DONT hang out in my room.. its just a sleeping zone. Anyone else? #sleepzone #donthangout #herdofkids #fyp #sahm #foryoupage #missouri #

So now that she’s a parent, she spends all her time in the living room. She only uses her bedroom to sleep and notes in the video that it’s not even decorated.

In a follow-up video, she clarified that modern-day bedroom parents are probably different from the ones back in the day who wanted to avoid dealing with their children. “My bedroom parents didn’t want to know that we existed. Okay? So, like, when they were in their bedroom, it’s because they just didn’t want to be around us. And, like, my mom has said so many times, she didn’t want to have kids, okay? And my dad didn’t want to either. So, it is what it is,” she explained.

The video created a debate over parenting styles on TikTok, and many parents had to confront what their decisions say about their relationship with their kids. Does being a bed person mean you don’t want to spend time with your children or that you’re teaching them to be independent?

“My room is my sacred spot. I need to be somewhere I can lay flat and stare at the walls to be alone,” Brookeebaby wrote.

“I’m a bed person, and now I feel bad,” Paige admitted. “I usually invite my kiddos to come with me tho if that makes a difference.”

“Parents were bedroom, and I’m a living room parent… didn’t realize tho. Generational issue broken,” Sav wrote.

A user named Noooooo reframed the debate as “couch” versus “bed” people. “There’s bed-people and couch-people,” they wrote. “Neither is right or wrong. I’m a bed person, so my kids all chill in my room with me.”

Even though it’s questionable to generalize people as strict bedroom or living room parents, the comments showed that just about everyone identified as one or the other. In the end, there’s nothing wrong with being a bedroom or living room parent. But Kile’s video did a great job at bringing up the topic so parents can think about where they spend their time in the house and whether it’s the best way to have a healthy and happy home.

Bike thief temporarily thwarted by a lovable Golden Retriever being a terrible guard dog

People get dogs to be loving members of their families, but sometimes dogs have a second role—to guard the house. But not all dogs are made for guarding anything other than their favorite stuffed animal. Some dogs are too small to scare anyone away and some dogs will just lick intruders to death.

A Golden Retriever in San Diego just proved to his owners that he is definitely in the latter group. The shaggy dog caught a stranger stealing his owner’s $1,300, 2019 Electra 3-speed bicycle out of the family’s garage redhanded. But instead of barking to alert his humans or attempting to scare the bike thief, he happily asked for belly rubs.

If you thought the bike bandit was going to ignore the wagging tail and sweet doggy requests, then you’d be wrong. Now would be the perfect time to explain how the friendly dog stopped the robbery in its tracks.

“You’re so cool, come here! You’re the coolest dog I’ve ever known,” the thief tells the dog as he rubs his face. “I love you, too. Come here. You’re a sweetheart. I want you to come home with me.”

Just a full-on, audible doggy-human love fest going on in the garage while the dog’s owner is none the wiser. The dog wasn’t working to distract the bike thief; he was there for his own personal gain, getting head scratches and belly rubs from all who enter the open garage. And while the dog momentarily thwarted the burglar, he didn’t prevent him from stealing the bike.

The man and the bike are now nowhere to be found, and there’s probably a sneaking suspicion that the family’s golden retriever wouldn’t alert anyone if the guy came back. A home surveillance camera caught the entire encounter, which was uploaded to TikTok where it has over 2.5 million views.

Uber driver gamifies his car to give riders a fun and unique experience

When you hop into an Uber, it can feel like a crapshoot. You never know if you’re going to get a chatty driver or a quiet one, a car that smells like brand new leather or one doused in vanilla air freshener, a ride that’s smooth and easy or one that makes you grip the door handle.

But when you enter Wallace the Uber driver’s car, you get an experience unlike any other.

On the back of the passenger side seat, riders are greeted with a touchscreen that has a series of trivia questions and game elements that help them get to know Wallace a little better. Passengers get to guess how many rides the cheerful driver has provided and what his family looks like. They even get to fix Wallace’s injured leg with either gauze or what appears to be duct tape, which is hilarious.

A video shared to X (formerly known as Twitter) by Alan Wagner shows what it’s like to take a ride with Wallace, and it looks like a hoot.

Watch:

The video was also shared on Reddit, where viewers praised Wallace’s ingenuity and humor.

“Wallace is giving his passengers something to do besides bother him while he’s driving. Wallace is a genius,” wrote one commenter.

“They are also games that humanize Wallace (He has a family! He is injured!) so you form a bond with him and tip him more 😊,” wrote another.

“I love how he stands up with a broken leg just to tell you how bad you did,” shared one person.

“The sheer disappointment radiating from that man allows him to overcome his injury and express his displeasure,” shared another.

The big red “NO” followed by the dramatic bow is so simple but so funny. But the video’s best part is Wallace exclaiming, “I love driving my car!”

Whether Wallace provides this game so riders get to know him better or so he doesn’t have to make as much conversation remains a mystery, but in the brief bit we get to see him talk, Wallace doesn’t seem like a guy who hates to chat.

Here’s to Wallace and everyone who loves their job, going the extra mile to give the people they serve the best experience possible.

‘Succession’ And ‘Veep’ Writers Are Going After Marvel And DC With HBO’s Spoof ‘The Franchise’

The world has likely seen the last of the Succession universe (unless it hasn’t), but that’s okay: Some of those who helped make it happen have other things on the pike. Jon Brown, who as one of the show’s writers and executive producers won two Emmys, is one of the masterminds behind a newly announced show that seeks to take on the biggest genre in Hollywood.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has greenlit The Franchise, which seeks to lampoon Marvel and the DCEU by portraying the behind-the-scenes turmoil of a struggling superhero movie.

Here’s the official description:

“The crew of an unloved franchise movie fight for their place in a savage and unruly cinematic universe. The Franchise shines a light on the secret chaos inside the world of superhero moviemaking, to ask the question — how exactly does the cinematic sausage get made? Because every f*ck-up has an origin story.”

Joining Brown, whose other credits include Veep and Peep Show, are his fellow Veep maven Armando Iannucci and Syfall’s Sam Mendes. The show is set to star Yesterday‘s Himesh Patel and You’re the Worst’s Aya Cash, as well as Jessica Hynes, Billy Magnussen, Lolly Adefope, Darren Goldstein, Isaac Powell, Richard E. Grant, and Daniel Brühl.

Superhero movies have all but dominated Hollywood ever since the original Iron Man in 2008. In the last couple years, though, they haven’t been the sure thing they for a long time were. The last year alone has seen low box office numbers for Black Adam, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, and The Flash, which Warner Bros. Discovery was so confident would be a smash that they forgave the antics of star Ezra Miller, all while cancelling other films that were almost completed.

Georgia D.A. Fani Willis Has Shot Down A Bizarre Rumor Donald Trump Spread About Her For Some Reason

Is Donald Trump trying to get thrown in the slammer? It sure sounds like it. Last weekend the former president kept breaking rules against talking about his ongoing court cases, specifically the one involving the Jan. 6 riot. But that’s not the only case he’s been inflaming. Earlier this week the big guy spread a bizarre rumor about Georgia D.A. Fani Willis, who may be hitting him with his fourth indictment. But first she had to publicly decry Trump’s claim as BS.

As per The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (as caught by Raw Story), the Fulton County district attorney shot down Trump’s reckless claim that she had slept with either a gang leader or a gang member. In an email to her colleagues, Willis called the allegation “derogatory and false.”

What’s more, she told those working in the Fulton County D.A. office to basically not engage the trolls.

“You may not comment in any way on the ad or any of the negativity that may be expressed against me, your colleagues, this office in the coming days, weeks or months,” Willis wrote in the email. “We have no personal feelings against those we investigate or prosecute and we should not express any.”

She added, “We have a job to do. In this office, we prosecute based on the facts and the law. The law is non-partisan. You should feel no need to defend me.”

Should Willis hit Trump with yet another indictment, she may be giving him what he wants. He’s said that each indictment raises, not lowers, his standing in GOP primary polls. How they fare with non-Republican voters, though, is another matter.

Turnstile Brought Hardcore To Baseball By Throwing The First Pitch At A Baltimore Orioles Game

Turnstile‘s rise came quickly. Glow On, their third studio album, was a highlight of 2021 and brought them a slew of opportunities. They were nominated for three Grammys, they collaborated with Taco Bell, they performed on late-night television for the first time, and they played beer pong with Post Malone and Dua Lipa.

They’re not done. The group often proudly reps their hometown, and they did so on Tuesday, August 8, when they threw the first pitch at the Baltimore Orioles game against the Houston Astros. The band all stood on the field and guitarist Pat McCrory made the throw.

Earlier this year, members of Turnstile also made a song called “Listening” for the viral sketch comedy series I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson.

About Glow On, bassist Franz Lyons told Uproxx, “I’m very grateful, but whether the whole world was paying attention or not, if this was fun and it was paying the bills and keeping us happy, in our heart and in our mind, I wouldn’t even care who was listening,” he said. “We’ve been doing it for 10 years, and I just turned around yesterday and realized where we were at. It just kind of feels like another day.

Disney+ Plans To Start Cracking Down On Password Sharing (With Price Increases, Too, Including For Hulu)

There was a time when sharing your streaming login was a sign of mutual respect and friendship. It was a way to slowly integrate socialization into your space by means of asking “hey, can I get your ____ password again?” For some, it was the only social interaction they ever got. For others, it was a reminder to write down important passwords. Those days are no more, thanks to the current crackdown on password-sharing. The latest culprit is the house of mouse itself, Disney.

Disney CEO/head and Ron DeSantis foe Bob Iger announced that Disney+ would be restructured with a price increase and a new policy for password sharing. “We are actively exploring ways to address account sharing and the best options for paying subscribers to share their accounts with friends and family,” Iger said in the company’s earnings call (via IGN) this week.

Iger continued, “Later this year, we will begin to update our subscriber agreements with additional terms and our sharing policies. And we will roll out tactics to drive monetization sometime in 2024.” Be sure to watch every DCOM now before those passwords get changed.

In addition to the new agreements, Disney+ and Hulu are also getting steep price increases. Starting October 12th, Disney+ Premium will increase from $10.99 to $13.99 a month. Hulu without ads will increase from $14.99 to $17.99 a month. For those of us who don’t mind all of those ads, the price for Disney+ and Hulu’s ad-supported tiers will still be bundled at $9.99 per month, but you have to watch a bunch of commercials for Kraft singles, which might be a dealbreaker.

Several streaming services are also on the price-increase path of late, so perhaps these Disney+/Hulu hikes were inevitable.

‘Harlan Coben’s Shelter:’ Everything You Need To Know Including The Release Date, Trailer, And More

Even though Stephen King is the go-to name when you think of bringing spooky stories to the big screen, Harlan Coben has been quietly but consistently churning out chilling tales for over 30 years, and those have just recently been getting their own theatrical adaptations. The author has a few Netflix titles in the works, but his latest adaptation is Shelter, is heading to Amazon Prime later this month. Take that, Pennywise!

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, Shelter is a mystery/drama series centered around a group of teens who begin to uncover some hidden secrets that have plagued their town. The book series consists of three other novels that follow the main protagonist, Mickey.

Here is everything we know so far about the upcoming series.

Plot

Shelter follows teen Mickey Bolitar and his group of misfit friends as they try to solve a series of disappearances in their small town. Sound familiar? Mickey’s life gets even more complicated when his new crush disappears without a trace. The gang then encounters a mysterious old woman who claims that Mickey’s dead father is actually alive, and suddenly the whole town begins to unravel.

Cast

The series stars Jaden Michael as Mickey Bolitar, Constance Zimmer as Shira, Adrian Greensmith as Arthur “Spoon” Spindell, Abby Corrigan as Ema, Tovah Feldshuh as Bat Lady (that’s what they call the scary old woman, of course), Sage Linder as Rachel, and Brian Altemus as Troy. Coben himself executive produces.

Release Date

The series will debut on Prime on August 18th, with new episodes available each Friday, leading up to the season finale on September 22nd.
