Drake And 21 Savage Find Themselves At The Center Of A Heist In Their New ‘Spin Bout U’ Video

Drake and 21 Savage are still riding the highs of their critically-acclaimed collaborative album, Her Loss. Today (February 24), the duo has shared their new video for “Spin Bout U,” a fan favorite from the album.

In the video for the romantic anthem, 21 and Drake are seen spoiling their women on a luxurious yacht. Midway through, the beat slowly warps, as it is implied the two have been drugged. Shortly after, the rappers are tied up and a group of ladies make their way throughout the boat, grabbing jewels, guns, and more.

With plot twists and unpredictable turns throughout, the video is very cinematic, which marks another high point in the cannon of Drake and 21 Savage visuals. Which, if the rumors of an imminent retirement are true, makes for a hell of a way to go out.

These rumors were fueled by an interview Drake did with Lil Yachty for the latter’s FUTUREMOOD sunglasses brand.

“I think I’m at the point now where I just want to like… I feel like, maybe we talked about this the other day….” he said. “… but I feel like I’m kind of introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit.”

Chance The Rapper Honors Historical Black Figures In His Second Visual For ‘Yah Know’

As Black History Month comes to an end, Chance The Rapper is reminding us of his inspirations and the moments that shaped our nation. Today (February 24), Chance has shared a second version of his visual for “Yah Know.” This one offers historical context to the songs and the people and moments to which he alludes in the lyrics.

Some of the notable lines on the song include “Blueprints in an unzipped file / Akwaaba, medaase / That’s the end of my speech / Tell ’em, ‘Spread the word from Osu to Kumasi’ / This for Dr. Kwame, Selassie and Nnamdi / Tell ’em, ‘Free the youth or we gon’ free the army’ / Pray no man can harm me, can’t no man can harm me.” The visual element juxtaposes these lines with images and footage of these people and moments.

In a recent interview with XXL, Chance detailed his upcoming album, Star Line Gallery, and noted that it will have a unique sound, which he says can’t be replicated.

“I don’t think it sounds like anybody else,” Chance said. “I actually know it doesn’t sound like anybody else. But it is very influenced by a culture and a lineage and a legacy that precedes me. You can expect it to be very Black. It’s not necessarily drenched in trauma or it doesn’t necessarily have that Black sense of humor. It’s really me and my travels, creating new friendships, getting better in my different art forms such as videography and cinematography. And it’s me just bearing witness to what I see and bearing who I am.”

Giannis Antetokounmpo Left Bucks-Heat With A Knee Injury And Won’t Return

The Milwaukee Bucks lost Giannis Antetokounmpo in the first quarter of Friday night’s game against the Miami Heat. With just over a minute left in the frame, Antetokounmpo had the ball and attempted to back down Heat big man Bam Adebayo. He took one dribble and looked like he was about to try imposing himself on his opponent, but immediately, Antetokounmpo looked awfully uncomfortable, kicked the ball out to Jevon Carter, and immediately called for Mike Budenholzer to call a timeout and sub him out of the game.

Antetokounmpo immediately made his way into the locker room with a noticeable limp, and at the 25-second mark of the below video, you can see that the former league MVP grimaced as he felt whatever was bothering him.

Eventually, the Bucks announced that Antetokounmpo suffered the injury while bumping his right knee, and after getting examined, it was determined that he’ll miss the remainder of the game.

There is no word on whether or not Antetokounmpo will have to miss additional time. The injury came during Milwaukee’s first game after the All-Star break. The team had won its previous 12 games entering Friday night’s tilt against the Heat, the longest active streak in the league. Antetokounmpo missed five consecutive games in January due to a knee injury, although that was not the same knee that he hurt against Miami.

The Jonas Brothers Rise Again With Their New Video For ‘Wings,’ Which Stars A ‘White Lotus’ Favorite

The Jonas Brothers dropped their new song, “Wings,” complete with a carefree music video. It stars The White Lotus‘ Haley Lu Richardson, as she and some friends are brought back to life by the high-energy song. The three girls dance around the hotel room, proving they can keep the party going.

In addition, the new song was executive produced by Jon Bellion (Halsey, Justin Bieber) and channels ’80s pop. “Wings” will be included on the band’s forthcoming album, titled The Album, when it drops in May.

‘Wings’ is the perfect start to this new chapter for us,” the JoBros shared in a statement. “Working with Jon pushed us to explore our artistry in a way we never have before. The song is a great first taste of that creative exploration and what’s to come with The Album.”

“We wanted to wipe the palette clean and demolish every expectation and box the brothers have ever been put into out the gate,” Bellion added. “We pushed ourselves to launch this thing musically into space while grounding it in a sort of Americana / Laurel Canyon nostalgia. There was a time when structure and composition mattered not only loops and vibes, and we dove into that mind frame.”

Last, but certainly not least, the sibling trio announced that they’ll be performing five of their albums during a Broadway run next month. More information is available here.

Fascinating study shows watching TV is a risk factor for unrealistic body ideals.

This article originally appeared on 02.26.16

Do we all, instinctively, find the same types of bodies attractive? Or do TV, movies, and pictures in magazines subtly influence what sorts of bodies we’re attracted to?

Researchers at Newcastle University in the U.K. set out to study this question — and walked away with some really fascinating new data.

The question they posed: Do people who have limited access to TV have different beauty ideals than those who watch more frequently?

It’s hardly a secret that Hollywood prefers thin. A 2003 study published in the American Journal of Public Health found that female characters who have bigger bodies were few and far between on TV at the turn of the last decade. When they did appear, they were less likely to have romantic partners and “less likely to considered attractive.”

Things have improved in recent years but only slightly. And popular reality shows like, “The Biggest Loser” continue to sell the idea that weight loss is the ticket to feeling attractive.

It raises the question: Would we feel differently about our bodies if we didn’t watch so much TV? Or if we saw more positive portrayals of people with bigger bodies on the air?

It’s really hard to study this because there aren’t a lot of places left in the world that don’t have access to Western media.

entertainment, studies, American media, global affects

In order to get good data, you need to talk to people who not only rarely or never watch TV and movies, but who are hardly even exposed to them and the culture they help generate.

American TV and movies — and locally-produced TV and movies that draw inspiration from our TV and movies — are pretty much everywhere by now.

But there are some. And that’s where the researchers went.

Country, TV access, body image, women

Specifically, they went to the east coast of Nicaragua, which is home to a number of remote villages, some of which have no or only partially electricity.

Researchers found a remote village with little TV access and asked participants there to react to various images of women’s bodies of different sizes.

pageants, military, culture, BMI

The subjects were asked to rate each image on a scale of 1 to 5. Their responses were compared with those from an urban area and a similar village that had greater access to broadcast media.

Critically, the two villages chosen were very similar culturally — previous studies have had difficulty separating out media viewing habits from other cultural variables that might account for the difference in how the images were perceived. Standards of beauty vary from culture to culture, including certain cultures that prize fatness (much like the “thin ideal” in the West, this is often similarly harmful to women and girls).

The result? Participants in the village with the least media access preferred bodies with a higher body mass index on average than those in the urban area and more connected village.

There are caveats, of course.

Using BMI to measure normal versus abnormal weight has become increasingly controversial recently. It’s also impossible to draw big, sweeping conclusions from a single study.

But it’s real data. And it does suggest that perhaps we’re not hardwired to find smaller bodies attractive.

scientific data, psychology, university studies, media

“Our data strongly suggests that access to televisual media is itself a risk factor for holding thin body ideals, at least for female body shape, in a population who are only just gaining access to television,” said Dr. Lynda Boothroyd, senior lecturer in psychology at Durham University and co-leader of the study.

In other words, the more TV we watch, the more we’re likely to be attracted to lower-weight bodies. The less TV we watch, the more we’re likely to look favorably upon higher-weight bodies.

Most importantly, it’s evidence that there’s nothing inherently attractive about weighing less, and nothing inherently unattractive about weighing more.

It’s just something we made up.

theme parks, globalization, studios, China

But the good news is that we can un-make it up.

How do we do that? Here’s one idea: Let’s get more people with more bodies of more shapes and sizes we can get on TV, in movies, and in glossy magazines — giving them real lives, real flaws, real romances, and presenting them, at least every so often, as attractive.

Like, you know. Real people.

Baby girl plays barista with her dad and it’s an adorable masterclass in patient parenting

As any parent can attest, raising kids isn’t easy. It can be fun and rewarding, though, if you’re able to find the joy in helping a tiny human learn and look at messes and mistakes as necessary parts of that learning process.

A TikTok video showing a dad and his young daughter playing barista together has been viewed 62 million times in a week, partly because it’s freaking adorable and partly because it’s a prime example of patient, positive parenting.

The TikTok account @sailorkinsley went viral in 2021 for a video of baby Sailor pouring water into a glass. Since then, we’ve seen Sailor grow more and more skilled as her parents coach and encourage her in her learning.

In the wildly popular barista video, Sailor pours together some kind of Starbucks-style coffee drink with her dad sitting beside her and guiding her through each step. The interactions between them are as sweet as the drink appears to be.

There’s so much to love about this video from a parenting perspective. Watch:

@sailorkinsley

First of all, it took Sailor three tries to get the ice cubes in the glass, and all her daddy did was tell her to keep trying. He gave her the choice of whether she wanted to try squeezing the syrup into the glass, and when she said no, he still gave her a sense of ownership by asking her how much was enough.

When she tossed the lids of the containers and then the milk carton, he didn’t overreact or disrupt the process; he just matter-of-factly said, “You gonna pick it up.” When he said, “That’s good, that’s good, stop!” and it took her a second to stop pouring, he didn’t criticize or push, but honored the time it takes a little one to process a command and coordinate the follow-through.

And when she overfilled the glass and spilled over the side and onto the table? No chastisement. Just encouragement. She can see the spill. She knows it happened. She’ll get better and better at it the more she practices.

In fact, another video Sailor’s mom shared shows just how far the wee one has come in the past year with her pouring skills. It’s both peak cuteness and a visual of how it takes mistakes and time to make progress and grow.

It’s even clear how much she’s learning in the differences between the barista video shared on February 16 and this one shared on February 23. Check out how her skills improved in just a week:

People in the comments gushed over the adorableness of it all, and some shared how wonderful it was to see parents being so patient with their kids. A number of people shared that they would have been hit or yelled at for spilling while pouring, and many simply wouldn’t have been given the opportunity to try at all.

“Imo the goal of parenting is teaching the kiddos how to be functioning adults,” wrote on commenter on Reddit. “I’m in my 30s and still making messes in life. At this girl’s age, the important lesson is learning shit happens sometimes and how to clean up the mess without getting upset or feeling like a failure. The whole patience thing is hard but perspective is key. For show or not, this dad is killing it.”

“I’ve seen the mom and now the dad,” wrote another. “This girl is truly lucky to have such loving parents. Just a reminder, to let people fail and help them instead of overcorrecting every behavior.”

“It’s hard to break generational traits and habits, man,” responded another. “Idk about y’all but I remember being terrified when I spilled as a kid. I have to fight my instinct to overreact to little sh*t all the time. Thankfully though, I’m trying to be more like the dad in this video every day.”

It’s hard to know what healthy, helpful parenting looks like if we haven’t seen it modeled, so Sailor’s parents are doing us all a service with these sweet little demonstrations. Keep up the good work, mom and pop.

Report: The Hawks Are Closing In On A Deal To Make Quin Snyder Their Next Coach

The Atlanta Hawks shook up their coaching staff on Tuesday, as the team opted to use the All-Star break to part ways with Nate McMillan. While Joe Prunty is taking over in the interim, reports indicate that the Hawks have already lined up a full-time replacement.

Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on Thursday that there was mutual interest between the Hawks and Quin Snyder, who most recently served as the head coach of the Utah Jazz. According to Charania, the two sides met virtually on Wednesday, and there was mutual interest in making something happen, with Atlanta wanting to bring Snyder on board quickly.

And on Friday, Charania reported that the two sides were “nearing a deal” that will bring Snyder to Atlanta.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN confirmed that Atlanta was closing in on a contract with the former Jazz coach.

Snyder spent a year as an assistant in Atlanta under Mike Budenholzer. It was his final stop before the Jazz hired him ahead of the 2014 season, where he spent eight years at the helm and helped lead the team to the postseason six times. He went 372-264 in Utah and resigned at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season.

McMillan took over the Hawks halfway through 2020-21 following Lloyd Pierce’s firing. He went 99-80, and helped get the team to the Eastern Conference Finals during the 2021 postseason.

Doja Cat’s Hot Devil Photoshoot Is Of Course Making The Right Lose Their Minds

Doja Cat channeled the devil in a fiery new photoshoot that she shared on social media, and it has people talking — as to be expected. While Doja’s fans are here for the production value and creativity that goes into her looks, the right politicians and accounts aren’t as pleased.

https://www.instagram.com/dojacat/?utm_source=ig_embed&ig_rid=8295e829-29c0-40fe-a534-08f2ad7db265

The Shade Room posted and then deleted Doja’s pics before offering a response as to why they did. “I will never be ashamed of my faith,” the photo read. “If you want to know what side of faith we stand on, we stand for God. We stand for Jesus. If you do too, throw up your (insert prayer hand emoji) in the comments,” they captioned.

Because of this, other religious followers chimed in with criticism of Doja Cat. “Glad you took it down. We do not support satanism. And we ain’t afraid to declare that we serve the true GOD and Jesus is the king of kings!” one commenter wrote.

Earlier this month, she faced viral TikTok claims that she worshipped Satan and was part of the Illuminati after covering her body in red crystals for Paris Fashion Week. However, it seemed like a reach, as instead of giving satanic vibes, it was giving 30,000 Swarovski crystals.

“This illuminati sh*t is so funny to me I’m gonna keep doing deliberate weird ass sh*t just to make those people uncomfortable,” Doja tweeted at the time. “I’ve fr found a new outlet of joy.”

At the very least, it’s nice to see that it’s not fazing her.

Britney Spears Surprised Fans By Her Pick Of The Favorite Song She’s Done (And It’s A Hidden Gem)

Britney Spears surprised fans with a new Instagram video today (Feb. 24), where the pop hitmaker revealed what her favorite song of hers is.

“My song ‘The Hook Up’ !!! It was never released as a single but it was always my favorite !!!” Spears said, according to Billboard, as it was eventually deleted.

While many fans might have thought it could have been any pick across her discography, including the massive ones like “Toxic” and “Oops!… I Did It Again,” she chose a hidden gem from her 2003 record, In The Zone. (It’s also worth noting that this album will be turning 20 later this year, so perhaps there’s something to Spears’ fave.)

After the reveal, casual Spears listeners noted that while they hadn’t particularly heard of “The Hook Up” before, they were going to check it out now. Others felt seen by Brit’s love for the song — and the album as a whole, throwing out additional recs for “Breathe On Me” and other high-caliber songs.

“Me and britney having the same fav song from her discog iktr,” one fan wrote.

“In The Zone has always been (and will always be) that girl,” another added.
