Two small dogs were surrendered to Marin Humane Society in Novato, California and the female had recently given birth to puppies. It’s not clear if the previous owners felt like they couldn’t care for both the older dogs and the puppies so they just kept the puppies, or if something else prompted the drop-off.
Either way, this mama dog was in distress after being left at the shelter without her babies. She refused to leave the corner of the large kennel and just looked so sad. The employees felt for the sweet mama dog and decided to do some detective work to see if they could figure out where the puppies were located.
After some careful sleuthing, Marin Humane Society workers located the puppies and convinced the owner to surrender them. According to the animal shelter’s YouTube caption, the puppies were not yet old enough to be separated from their mother and were not in a safe situation. There are no details about the condition of the home or reasons the dogs were surrendered in the first place, but boy are those chubby little babies cute.
With mama still hiding in her corner, one of the shelter employees started taking puppies out of a crate and showing them to the sad dog. It took her a minute, but once she realized that these just may be her babies, she perked up and came to have a sniff. Within seconds her tail started spinning like a helicopter propeller and shortly after her puppies’ tails started wagging right along with hers.
Even though the video is from 2016, it’s so sweet that it’s making the rounds again. Watch the heartwarming reunion below:
Take it from the ultimate leading ladies themselves, getting older can also mean getting better.
In the upcoming sports comedy “80 for Brady,” legendary stars Jane Fonda, Sally Field, Lily Tomlin and Rita Moreno play best friends and devoted fangirls to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who are hell-bent on watching their favorite football player in the Super Bowl. The story was inspired by a gang of real-life besties from 2017.
As the cast has been promoting the film, it’s been one hilarious story after another. From Fonda cracking Sally Field up over a naughty football pun to Moreno sharing flirty locker stories, it’s clear that for these ladies the fun has only just begun.
“I think as you get older, you get better at almost everything,” Fonda shared in an interview with AARP. “I love my work more than ever, and it feels more balanced now. I take things in stride more than I once did. Things are a little simpler.”
The “Grace and Frankie” actress has previously shared that even her sex life had improved over the years as she learned how to better understand and communicate her needs.
“Women, I think, tend to get better because they lose their fear of saying what they need,” she said. “We waste way too much time not wanting to say, ‘Wait a minute, hold it, hold it, no, no, no. Slow down, and a little to the left.’ We don’t want to do that…But when we get older it’s like, ‘No, I know what I want. Give me what I want.’” she told Andy Cohen during his SiriusXM radio show, “Andy Cohen Live.”
Moreno seconded Fonda’s statement in the AARP interview, saying “I will confess that I wake up smiling.” She added that when looking in the mirror she would sometimes find herself taken aback at all the years that have gone by, but it doesn’t take away any confidence. “I’ll put on some makeup and I’m absolutely amazing,” she quipped.
It’s certainly a refreshing take. Generally speaking, American culture often views youth as the holy grail of happiness, with the false assumption that somehow joy is a limited resource that is slowly siphoned off beginning at the age of 30. In fact, it’s not only joy that supposedly fades, but beauty, health and overall value.
But as many older people will tell you, nothing could be further from the truth. You actually get more self-assured, more powerful and (perhaps most important of all) more present to actually look around and appreciate the blessings surrounding you. All in all, it doesn’t sound like a bad deal.
Thankfully, conversations like these are becoming more widespread, helping us to remember that in many ways, our best days are still ahead of us.
Like, why do humans cry when we’re sad and when we’re happy? How can something touch our hearts in such a joyful way that our eyeballs start leaking saltwater? (And why does it totally ruin it to refer to crying as “eyeballs leaking saltwater”?)
Scientists don’t know exactly why people cry happy tears, but according to VeryWellMind, they have a few best guesses. One is that we cry for balance—to manage our intense emotions or help regulate our body and mood. Another guess is that we cry when we’re overwhelmed with happiness because we feel helpless and powerless over our emotions. A third theory is that crying signals vulnerability, which triggers empathy in others, therefore creating a social connection between people.
Whatever the reason, invoking tears of joy is one of our favorite pastimes here at Upworthy. We love it when readers make “cutting onions” jokes because the emotions behind them are pure, genuine and so very, very human.
Some of this week’s roundup of joy will make you smile, some will make you laugh and some may just make you cry those happy tears. So have a tissue handy and enjoy!

The Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns squared off on Thursday evening in a nationally televised clash between teams going in opposite directions in recent days. Dallas entered with four losses in the last five games, while Phoenix aimed to extend a four-game winning streak. In addition, there is plenty of history between these two clubs, headlined by the memorable Game 7 blowout win for the Mavericks over the Suns in Dallas just a few months ago. This time around, though, Luka Doncic was forced to the locker room within the four minutes of the game with an apparent ankle injury.
Doncic has dealt with ankle injuries in the past and, in this case, the video shows a clear mechanism when his foot stepped on another player’s and turns over. Hopefully, Doncic can avoid a long-term absence, and ankle injuries can be quite tricky. Still, it is undeniable that even a mid-term absence for Doncic would be problematic for Dallas — and of lesser importance, puts his status as an All-Star starter in jeopardy.
It could be argued that no team in the league is more reliant on a single offensive creator than the Mavericks. Beyond Doncic’s ludicrous counting numbers, Dallas scores 118.3 points per 100 possessions with Doncic on the floor and that number craters to 107.0 per 100 (with a -6.3 net rating) whenever Doncic is on the bench. In his stead, the Mavericks project to lean heavily on players like Spencer Dinwiddie and Tim Hardaway Jr., but everyone in Dallas will be holding their breath until a more detailed diagnosis is available.
(SPOILERS for this week’s BMF episode will be found below.)
The third episode of BMF season two saw Meech and Terry deal with big troubles in their respective worlds. A cocaine drought is in full effect and Meech is down to do whatever is needed to receive a new supply to sell to the streets. He reaches out to K-9 for a re-up, but his request is initially denied. However, K-9 says he’ll fulfill Meech’s needs if he can accomplish a task for him. Unfortunately, Meech fails to get it done in the manner that K-9 requested. As for Terry, there’s competition in the car-ride service world, and a move from Terry earlier this season led to them tampering with the Flenory vehicles, which sets back his and Charles’ hard-earned progress. In both cases, Meech and Terry are left to figure out their next move, and while Terry does, Meech suffers a second, more-crushing blow.
The aforementioned events in the third episode of BMF season two, titled “Devli’s Night,” are soundtracked by songs that help to accentuate the emotions behind each scene. You can find a list of them belong as well as details about the scenes that they are heard in.
The following records were provided thanks to the Starz Public Relations team.
Keith Sweat — “Make It Last Forever”
This song can be heard at the 04:02 mark during a sex scene between Meech and Monique, a woman he’s been seeing who is played Kash Doll. Monique has always had relations with Lamar, who is a sworn enemy to Meech.
50 Cent — “Wish Me Luck” Feat. Charlie Wilson
This is the theme song of BMF. It plays at the 06:15 mark in “Devil’s Night.” While 50 Cent and Charlie Wilson’s voices are only heard on it, the song also features Snoop Dogg and Moneybagg Yo.
Mando — “War Time”
This plays at the 07:46 mark as Meech returns to K-9’s spot for another meeting. It’s here that Meech requests more product from K-9, an ask that’s initially denied, but accepted under the condition that Meech kidnaps a man named Travis to bring back to K-9.
Osinachi — “As The Story Goes”
We hear this record at the 9:51 mark as K-9 asks Meech if he remembers the loud individual from their last meeting. This leads to a quick flashback to episode two.
Don City — “Block Is Fed”
This record checks in at the 10:24 mark as Charles and Lucille arrive at the accident scene to see what happened with Terry and Nicole. Charles confronts Terry about who would intentionally mess with the car’s tires to cause the accident. Terry blames it on Devil’s Night, but Charles isn’t so convinced.
Dough Boy — “I See Yours”
At the 12:51 mark, Meech walks into BMF’s record store home base to talk to B-Mickie and inform him that K-9 has tasked him with finding the individual named Travis. B-Micke agrees to help Meech kidnap Travis in order to bring him to K-9 so that they can get more product.
Extreme — “Sloe Gin”
This slow piano tune plays around the 16:00 mark as Terry and Markeisha enjoy dinner together. Their meeting occurs after Terry learns that the men from the competing car-ride service were the ones who messed up his tires and caused the accident that he and Nicole were involved in together.
Flower — “BF Bang”
We hear this record at the 18:51 mark as Detective Bryant surprises B-Mickie and tells him to join him for a ride through his continued effort to trap Meech and finally arrest him.
Crystal — “Down At The Cross (Glory to His Name)”
This gospel record is played at the 23:23 mark during a church scene that features Snoop Dogg as Pastor Swift, Charles as the choir bassist, and a woman beside that sparks a bit of jealousy from Lucille in the crowd.
RJ’s Latest Arrival — “Shackles”
This song plays at the 31:45 mark when Charles visits Mable, a fellow church member, to fix the fan at her house. It’s clear that Mable is attracted to Charles, and she makes it quite clear as they dance together to this song.
Cicero — “All Musle 80s Flow”
We hear this song at the 36:01 mark as Meech and B-Mickie walk up to Travis’ house to hopefully kidnap him and bring him to K-9. Unfortunately, after they successfully lure him out, the trio engage in a shootout and accidentally kill him, thus failing to comply with K-9’s orders.
Brian McKnight Jr. — “Better Off Alone”
Brian McKnight Jr.’s “Better Off Alone,” plays at the 42:35 mark when Terry’s plan to tamper with the competing car-ride service’s car is successful. The driver’s brakes fail and he nearly crashes into another vehicle before he’s successfully able to bring the car to a stop on the side of the road.
Native — “Bring It Back”
The final record in this episode plays as Meech and Terry beat up a driver from the competing car service for tampering with the Flenory’s vehicles. They beat him up and leave them bloody and hurt in the street.
New episodes of ‘BMF’ are available on the STARZ app on Fridays at 12:00 am EST and on the STARZ TV channel at 8:00 pm EST.
Bomani Jones, the Emmy-winning sportscaster and host of HBO’s Game Theory, stopped by to chat with Seth Meyers on Wednesday night, where they had a wide-ranging conversation that eventually landed on the curious — and, for many, unfortunate — relationship between cryptocurrency and sports.
It’s a topic Jones has talked about before, including on a March 2022 episode of Game Theory — months before FTX came crashing down — and it was a segment that stuck with Meyers. “Obviously, you were very early here in saying, ‘Hey, this doesn’t quite smell right.’ The whole world of crypto, and how quickly sports is wanting to have a partnership with it,” said the late-night host.
Jones admitted that his suspicions were first aroused almost 10 years ago — by Silk Road, the infamous online marketplace where anyone with an internet connection and access to bitcoin could buy anything from a fake ID to vast amounts of cocaine, heroin, opioids, or whatever other illegal drugs you might fancy. It caught Jones’ attention for a few different reasons, including that “real drug dealers don’t sell drugs on the web. So you knew it wasn’t real drug dealers.”
But the fact that Bitcoin was the website’s sole currency was what really confounded Jones, because: “Why would I trade my money for money that’s not money?”
Yet the brash crypto kings behind many of these volatile digital currencies have looked at professional athletes — and the fans who watch them religiously — as their target market. In 2021, Tom Brady and then-wife Gisele Bündchen became the king and queen of FTX as brand ambassadors (alongside Larry David, of all people) — all three of whom were later sued by FTX customers. But in Jones’ mind, all you needed to do was look at the difference between how traditional investment firms presented themselves and how the crypto gurus did it:
You see a commercial for Merrill Lynch or for Charles Schwab or for any of them other dorks that get up there and do the trading, and they’re always telling you, ‘Take care of your future.’ It’s always very serene and peaceful.
These crypto ads were like, ‘Fortune favors the brave!’ Why do I need to be brave about my money? My entire life is about not being brave about my money. The whole reason that you take your money to somebody to invest it is because you’re NOT brave. It’s because you’re terrified of a zillion different factors. And the only people who were trying to be brave with their money are broke.
You can watch the full conversation above, beginning at the 4:30 mark.
Eddie Murphy dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to share his habit of texting Planet of the Apes quotes to Tracy Morgan, describe Michael Jackson’s private zoo, and to reveal that he was once (delightfully) trapped with Rick James for two weeks thanks to Mother Nature.
“I went up there to record ‘Party All The Time,’” Murphy began as Kimmel laughed uproariously in the background. “It was maybe the most fun I ever had. I was supposed to go for one weekend, and we got snowed in Buffalo — sometimes it has five feet of snow — and I was stuck in Rick James’ house for two weeks, and it was one of my fondest memories.”
In perhaps Kimmel’s greatest failing, he did not drill deeper down into that story. Perhaps he noted some coolness to the way Murphy explained it that signaled he didn’t want to talk more, or maybe he simply wanted to make a cocaine joke because they were “snowed in,” but whatever the reason, he didn’t get the goods.
Therefore, someone needs to. Some brave soul needs to get the full details of what happened during that fateful fortnight and perhaps turn it into a feature film starring, let’s say, Eddie Murphy as Rick James.
Murphy, fresh off earning the Cecil B. DeMille Award, stars in You People, which is on Netflix starting January 27th.
If you’ve never driven your car into a lake, thank Gladys West.
She is one of the mathematicians responsible for developing the global positioning system, better known as GPS.
Like many of the black women responsible for American achievements in math and science, West isn’t exactly a household name. But after she mentioned her contribution in a biography she wrote for a sorority function, her community turned their attention to this local “hidden figure.”
West was one of only four black employees at the Naval Proving Ground in 1956.
She accepted a position at the Dahlgren, Virginia, facility doing calculations, with her early work focusing on satellites. West also programmed early computers and examined the information that determined the precise location and elevation of satellites in space. Her data collection and calculations would ultimately aid in the development of GPS.
West and her colleagues back then probably could not have speculated just how much their calculations would affect the world.
Pretty much every “smart” device — from cellphones to fridges to dog collars — has GPS capabilities these days. The technology has changed the way we play, work, navigate, and explore our communities.
West would continue her work until her retirement in 1998.
After more than 40 years of calculations and complex data analysis, West retired. And following a well-earned vacation with her husband, she suffered a major stroke. But during her recovery, she worked toward returning to school and earned a doctorate. Her go-forward determination led to her regain most of her mobility, and she even survived heart surgery and cancer years later.
At 87, West is working on her memoir and spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren. And according to her oldest daughter, West — despite the advent of GPS — still likes to have a paper map on hand.
The trailer for We Have A Ghost is excellent, and then Jennifer Coolidge shows up as a reality show medium, and thenTig Notaro shows up as a CIA agent, further compounding the excellence upon excellence upon excellence.
The latest from writer/director Christopher Landon (Freaky, Happy Death Day) sits in the same horror comedy sweet spot he’s built a tongue-in-cheek career around, but may be even more YA-friendly than previous movies. Based on the Vice short story “Ernest” by Geoff Manaugh, the very Netflix-titled We Have A Ghost asks the question of what would happen if, instead of running for his life, a teen started recording when a ghost appeared.
Here’s the official synopsis: “Finding a ghost named Ernest haunting their new home turns Kevin’s family into overnight social media sensations. But when Kevin and Ernest investigate the mystery of Ernest’s past, they become a target of the CIA.”
David Harbour is perfectly cast here, achieving schlubby perfection as the mute ghost of what looks like the second-best bowler on your team, and there’s at least one shot in the trailer that owes everything to The Twins from Matrix: Revolutions, so watching it several times in a row is perfectly, delightfully acceptable. Likewise, Anthony Mackie and Erica Ash look to be doing stellar goofball parental work.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus and David Duchovny play the parents of Jonah Hill’s Ezra in You People, so it’s not the most inventive move to pair them interviews about the movie. It’s also Louis-Dreyfus and Duchovny, so getting them together to be charming isn’t rocket surgery. Still! No-brainers can also be brilliant, and the brilliance paid off in the form of our 1990s crushes razzing each other about their hit TV shows when they sat down to chat with Jake Hamilton.
“I just said that I watched SEINFELD, I didn’t say that I liked it.”
They proclaim that they never met back when Seinfeld and The X-Files were dominating TV screens around the country, which is a shame because the cross-over episode would have been dynamite.
When Louis-Dreyfus says she never saw the seminal sci-fi show, Duchovny jokingly takes offense and says, “I said I watched Seinfeld. I didn’t say I liked it.”
The two showed off old married couple chemistry to the max here, promising a taste of what we’ll see in You People — the buddy comedy directed by Kenya Barris (Black-ish) and starring Jonah Hill trying not to get beaten down by the potential father-in-law (Eddie Murphy) he’s trying to impress. The Netflix film drops January 27th after a slew of trailers that all featured Hill and Murphy being profoundly awkward with each other.
