Rina Sawayama Thrives In Her Chaotic Energy On Her The Song ‘Hurricanes’

Just days away from the release of her sophomore album, Hold The Girl, Rina Sawayama has shared an electrifying new song. On her latest, “Hurricanes,” Sawayama channels her upper register as she thrives in her personal chaos.

“April showers finally making way for warmer weather / But yet I still feel the same / Doing yoga just to feel untethered / But my mind keeps running away,” she sings in the first verse, as the song progresses into electric guitar riffs and energetic drum loops.

Later in the song, she beautifully articulates the feelings of being hard on herself and the emotional and mental aftermath of that “Always wanted to be best at everything / Even when it brings out the worst in myself / So I create a storm and bury it deep, hiding the key / in plain sight just in case I need help.”

In a recent interview with Fader, Sawayama shared that while she tried to write songs for Hold The Girl outside of her perspective, she felt too inspired by the world around her.

“I’d love to go from a more generic perspective next time, because the psychological giving when you write a record that’s so personal is quite a lot,” Sawayama said. “I was really inspired by how Taylor Swift was able to write outside of her perspective for Folklore. It was something I hadn’t thought about as much until lockdown, when I was like, ‘Oh God, how am I gonna get inspiration? Nothing’s happening to me!’ But actually, if you look around, there are so many stories waiting to be told.”

John Oliver’s Jokes About The Queen’s Death Were Reportedly Censored By British TV

Like most late night comedians, John Oliver lobbed a few jokes about the death of Queen Elizabeth II during a recent episode of Last Week Tonight. However, if you were watching the program through the massive Comcast-owned Sky TV in Britain, you didn’t see any of the Queen-related jokes. The network reportedly censored portions of the broadcast that mostly made fun of the odd reactions to the Queen’s death more than her passing, but apparently, that was enough to warrant a few edits.

Via The Hollywood Reporter:

Among other things, Oliver made fun of tributes to the late queen from such companies as Domino’s Pizza and the likes of cartoon character Crazy Frog. “Obviously, we have to start with the U.K., which is clearly still reeling from the shocking death of a 96-year-old woman from natural causes,” the host said. “It is a big moment [of] the week, and for some reason, absolutely everyone felt they had to wade in.”

As THR notes, British viewers noticed the cuts and blasted Sky for the edits. If folks are tuning in to watch John Oliver, they know what kind of material to expect.

“Where can I watch the segment on the Queen from @LastWeekTonight considering Sky decided to cut it?” one viewer tweeted. Another wrote, “Don’t censor my @LastWeekTonight. I am British, I am a monarchist and I CAN TAKE A JOKE!!!”

Sky did not respond to requests for comments nor did HBO’s parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, which is understandable given everything going on over there.

Drew Barrymore Discusses Her And Britney Spears’ Recent ‘Secret Exchanges’: ‘We Found A Deep Connection’

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari’s wedding this summer was a star-studded event, as attendees included Donatella Versace, Paris Hilton, Madonna, Selena Gomez, and Drew Barrymore. Barrymore was a guest on The Tonight Show yesterday and during her interview with Jimmy Fallon, she spoke about the bond she and Spears have formed in recent times.

Fallon brought up the fact that Barrymore was at Spears’ wedding, then Barrymore noted she and Spears became friends “about a year-and-a-half ago.” She continued:

“We’ve sort of had some secret exchanges. And I know that sounds nefarious. It was exactly the opposite. It was very connective and honest. And we’ve both been through a lot of things. We have some parallels that are unique in their circumstances, but also, I think the things that we go through in life, although these circumstances may seem so next-level, the feelings of growing up, struggling, all the stuff that we’ve bone gone through, is something that I felt connected to her. And I’m not a real reach-out kind of person, you know? I’m not Hollywood Bob, I’m not click. I just… the humanity in what she was going through, trying to get her freedom back, was something I felt compelled to reach out and we found a deep connection there.”

After some audience applause, Barrymore continued, “There is a human being at the center of this. And so, we made friends… like, genuine friends.”

She went on to discuss Spears’ wedding, describing it as “intimate, “fairy tale-ish,” “very sweet,” and “the way she wanted to do it.”

Jimmy Fallon Is Keeping His 2022 VMAs Beard But Not Because People Think He’s ‘So Hot Right Now’

At the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards a couple weeks ago, Jimmy Fallon was on hand to present Harry Styles the Album Of The Year award for Harry’s House. He ended up causing quite the stir by showing up with a new beard, which plenty of folks online found attractive. Later, Fallon acknowledged the ‘thirst’ and ‘confusion’ his VMAs appearance was causing on the internet.

Since then, he’s been back to hosting The Tonight Show and he still has the beard. Last night (September 12), Drew Barrymore guested on the program and she and Fallon have a strong rapport, considering they co-starred in Fever Pitch once upon a time and that Barrymore co-founded production company Flower Films with Fallon’s wife, producer Nancy Juvonen. So, she wasn’t shy about opening the interview by having some fun with Fallon’s look.

Fallon started by telling Barrymore that she looked good and Barrymore responded by exclaiming about how Fallon kept his beard. Barrymore then teased, “You love it because everybody’s saying you’re so hot right now. You love it and now you don’t want to lose it.” As Barrymore spoke and the audience cheered, Fallon bashfully laughed and said, “No, that’s not why I love it.”

After talking about it some more, Fallon offered an explanation (but not really) for why the beard has stuck around, saying, “I figured, I’m just going to keep it on. I have nothing… I figured… I don’t know why, I’m just going to leave it on…”

Jeremy Allen White And Ayo Edebiri Sparked Renewed Audience Thirst For ‘The Bear’ At The Emmys

The 74th Primetime Emmys taught us a few things about what people still love. People will always love Leonardo DiCaprio dating jokes, and they dig a rebellious, dancing Jennifer Coolidge. Oh, and people have a soft spot for the Chefs of The Bear, as proven by co-stars Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri as they took the stage for a presentation, and perhaps we’ll see them back as nominees next year.

Let’s just say that people are clamoring even more for Season 2 than they already were. The preexisting lust bubbled up like the Family spaghetti sauce, and if you were once again contemplating whether Carmy should have sex, then you definitely weren’t alone. And Ayo looked absolutely stunning outside of her character’s rough-and-tumble, intense work environment, so people were into all of this, so very much.

The Bear thirst never really went away, as these tweets prove.

And Season 2 is definitely happening, although we haven’t heard anything even vaguely resembling a release date. If you something to tide you ever ever so slightly, you might wanna check out Ayo’s episode of Penn Badgley’s Podcrushed podcast. She’s very comedically inclined, so one should expect to see her in many places, despite her joking Emmy’s onstage moment, in which she suggested that she was always available for work. She’s definitely busy with The Bear, and fans can’t wait for more.

The Bear is currently streaming on Hulu.

Britney Spears’ Post About ‘Fat People’ Got Overwhelmingly Negative Feedback

After one of her latest Instagram posts, Britney Spears finds herself in some hot water.

Yesterday night (September 12), Spears wrote about how she wishes she had more control over her life during her conservatorship, writing, “I wish I could have chosen the nannies for my children … my dancers … I mean if I had Christina Aguilera’s dancers I would have looked extremely small … I mean why not talk about it ?? Don’t you think my confidence would have been a bit better if I could choose where I lived, ate, whom I called on the phone, dated and who was on stage with me !!! It’s hard sometimes now I see how much of my womanhood was stripped away at that time and every person sat back and didn’t say a thing !!! Anyways … I will be here talking bout things people NEVER talked about [rolling eyes emoji] !!!”

The element of the post that people presumably found the most troubling, though, was the image Spears chose, of a quote attributed to late comedian Rodney Dangerfield that reads, “I found there was only one way to look thin: hang out with fat people.”

Since the post was shared, it has received over 21,000 comments and it appears most of them are upset or confused reactions. One of the most-liked comments has over 10,700 likes and says, “This one is a no.” Other responses include, “Please delete this,” “this ain’t it,” “Wtf,” “Oh gurl, you finna get dragged for this,” and other messages similar in tone. One person wrote, “Oof. Love Britt- but this was in bad taste. Body shaming to make yourself feel better is not where it’s at.”

Spears has yet to address the backlash to the post.

Fans Are Comparing Cardi B And Nicki Minaj’s Very Different Reactions To PnB Rock’s Death

Yesterday, PnB Rock died at 30 years old after he was fatally shot at a Roscoe’s Chicken And Waffles diner in Los Angeles. Many in the hip-hop community mourned the rapper’s passing and fans noticed a distinct difference in the messages from two rappers who are constantly pitted against each other: Cardi B and Nicki Minaj.

For context, some made note that shortly before RnB Rock’s death, his girlfriend shared a photo of her Roscoe’s meal and tagged her and PnB’s location on Instagram. Some suspect the person who shot RnB Rock saw that and then went to find and shoot the rapper.

Cardi addressed that in her reaction, tweeting, “I highly doubt n****s was looking at PMB’s babymom IG. He was in a bad location and people stay outside plotting. It’s very irresponsible and inconsiderate to blame her for something so tragic. We should be sending nothing but love to her and his family at this time.”

Meanwhile, Nicki’s reaction, shared about 45 minutes after Cardi’s, had a different tone, as she wrote, “After Pop Smoke there’s no way we as rappers or our loved ones are still posting locations to our whereabouts. To show waffles & some fried chicken????! He was such a pleasure to work with. Condolences to his mom & family. This makes me feel so sick. Jesus. #SIP #PnbRock [dove emoji].”

Twitter users took exception with Nicki’s approach, with one summarizing, “be like Cardi. Don’t be like Nicki and victim blame PnB Rock’s girlfriend. She’s mourning too [single tear emoji].”

Peyton Manning And Shannon Sharpe Were Melting Down Watching The Broncos Waste Time On 4th Down

The Broncos lost to the Seahawks on Monday Night Football in a 17-16 game that featured one of the most bizarre final drives, including some all-time terrible clock management, culminating in the decision to run 40 seconds off the clock before calling their first timeout of the half in order to kick a 64-yard field goal to try and win the game.

That, unsurprisingly, did not work out and they ended up losing in Russell Wilson’s return to Seattle, where he was loudly booed and got outplayed by Geno Smith for most of the night. Luckily for Wilson, the conversation coming out of the game is on Nathaniel Hackett’s coaching debut, which could be summed up in one word as, “catastrophic.” On the main broadcast, Troy Aikman and Joe Buck were very confused by what was happening, but the best reaction to the Broncos late game management came on the Manningcast, where Peyton was having a panic attack as the clock rolled down without a timeout and Shannon Sharpe was a guest, losing his mind that they wasted all that time to eventually call timeout.

This is, undoubtedly, the best thing about the Manningcast (which is still a delight), because Peyton can’t help but lose it over bad decision-making and mental mistakes, and when they have a guest who is a diehard or a former legend of one of the teams, they also are incredibly invested in what’s happening. In this case, it was a perfect storm of being a Broncos game, with Peyton very much rooting for his old squad alongside Shannon, and they had to watch this from afar with no way of stopping the trainwreck they could see coming.

NFL Fans Were In Shock That The Broncos Played For A Game-Winning 64-Yard Field Goal (Which Missed)

Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season concluded on Monday evening with a tightly contested matchup between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks. The contest featured a pair of crucial fumbles at the goal line by the Broncos on the road, leaving Russell Wilson trailing in the final minutes in his return to Seattle. Denver dominated the box score throughout the evening and, down the stretch, it seemed as if the Broncos were in a favorable position to complete a comeback and secure a season-opening win. However, new Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett deployed a rather interesting clock management strategy in the closing moments, effectively playing for a 64-yard field goal that eventually missed the mark to ensure a 17-16 defeat.

Denver took over with a one-point deficit and more than four minutes remaining. With the help of a somewhat controversial spot and measurement, the Broncos picked up an initial first down and moved relatively quickly to striking distance. Denver also had all three of its timeouts, but the Broncos were seemingly content to bleed clock the entire way, reaching the two-minute warning at their own 40-yard line and letting the entire play clock elapse before a 4th-and-5 scenario at Seattle’s 46-yard line.

Observers were utterly baffled by the clock management in real time, with few even considering the possibility that the Broncos could be purposefully setting up a 64-yard field goal attempt. When Wilson called a timeout at the play clock buzzer, Hackett turned to Brandon McManus, who had enough leg but not enough accuracy on his kick.

While it was 4th-and-5 and the Broncos would have needed to convert to move the chains and give McManus a better chance, the odds of even a high-end kicker (which McManus is) burying a 64-yard kick on the road are rather slim. Beyond that, the entire sequence of clock management was truly befuddling, especially when remembering that the Broncos acquired Wilson and paid him a handsome sum in a contract extension to convert in moments such as this.

This wasn’t a case in which the “analytics people” were on one side alone, either, as the masses just could not understand the thinking from Hackett and roasted him for an all-time bizarre decision.
