Eminem’s Near-Fatal Overdose Left Him In Rough Shape: ‘It Took A Long Time For My Brain To Start Working Again’

Back in 2007, Eminem was hospitalized after overdosing on methadone in the midst of an addiction to prescription pills. (He’s now proudly sober.) He talked about that time in his life recently, revealing just how bad of a state he was in.

On Paul Pod, the podcast of Eminem’s longtime manager Paul Rosenberg, Em said of where he was at post-hospitalization, “It took a long time for my brain to start working again.”

Rosenberg then explained, “You literally were coming off of an overdose, and they had to sort of stabilize you with a few medications. And some of them took you a minute to adjust to — let’s just leave it at that. So, you’re learning how to rap again almost literally, right? Because it’s the first time, probably, you were creating without having substances in your body in… however many years, right?”

Em also noted he was “concerned” that he would have permanent brain damage.

Last year, Em said post-OD, he had to re-learn how to rap, saying of a leaked lyric about Chris Brown’s assault on Rihanna, “A lot of times, especially with the Relapse record, when I first started learning how to rap again, because of the drug situation that I went through and having to relearn a lot of things, that was one of those things that it was like, well, if it rhymes, say it. I think that being able to look back — I mean, that’s not even an excuse — but I’m just saying there was a phase I was going through with that Relapse record.”

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Is ‘Amazed’ That His Lawyers Let Him Make ‘Weird: The Al Yankovic Story’

In the trailer for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, “Weird Al” Yankovic asks Madonna whether her song “Like a Virgin” is autobiographical. “Yes, she responds, “except for the fact that I’ve had a lot of sex.” They then make out and, presumably, get weird.

This did not happen in real life. This “Weird Al” and Madonna are played by Daniel Racliffe and Evan Rachel Wood, respectively, and Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is a satirical biopic. But the real “Weird Al,” the one who never yelled “you’re all a bunch of normals, I’m the weird one” to his bandmates, is still surprised the film got made. “I’m amazed the lawyers let us get away with this movie, frankly. But they’re like, Oh, yeah, all public figures — go for it,” Yankovic told the New York Times, which added in a parenthetical, “A representative for Madonna did not respond to a request for comment.”

Here’s more:

Daniel Radcliffe is “Weird” Al Yankovic in the unexaggerated true story about the greatest musician of our time. From a conventional upbringing where playing the accordion was a sin, Al rebelled and made his dream of changing the words to world-renowned songs come true. An instant success and sex symbol, Al lives an excessive lifestyle and pursues an infamous romance that nearly destroys him. With Evan Rachel Wood, Rainn Wilson, and an A-list cast of thousands their agents won’t let us reveal.

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story comes to the Roku Channel on Friday, November 4.

Carlos Alcaraz Hit An Outrageous Behind-The-Back Shot To Win A Point Against Jannik Sinner

The final quarterfinals match at the U.S. Open was very well the most entertaining one, as 11-seed Jannik Sinner took on 3-seed Carlos Alcaraz in a battle of two of the best young talents in tennis.

The Spaniard took the first set 6-3, but found himself in a dogfight in the second set, going the distance to a 12th game on serve, with Sinner fighting off a number of break points to stay in the set. Sinner got himself a game point opportunity and hit a monster serve out wide, forcing Alcaraz to simply stab at the ball to get it back into play, where Sinner was waiting at the service line to hit what should’ve been a winner.

However, Alcaraz, being a magician on the court somehow managed a behind-the-back shot after overrunning the ball, which seemed to stun Sinner who hit a weak drop shot that Alcaraz punished for a winner to force the game back to deuce.

Sinner would go on to win the game and force a tiebreak, but Alcaraz undoubtedly won over the crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium with his unbelievable, instinctive behind-the-back shot that will be on highlight reels for years, as the young star continues his ascent in the world of tennis.

Jerry Seinfeld Is Kith’s Latest Model And Reactions Are… Mixed

Jerry Seinfeld is the new face of KITH and… people don’t really know how to take it. Ronnie Fieg’s streetwear brand is no stranger to celebrity cameos, especially when it comes to eternally cool faces whose cultural cache hasn’t diminished with age (see their campaign starring Steve Buscemi) but there is something about the autumnal vibes of the FW22 line and Seinfeld’s weirdly melancholy posing that makes this particular campaign especially funny in a way that I don’t think it was intended to come across. The campaign was shot by legendary photographer Mark Seliger and shows Seinfeld in all sorts of outfits that you’d never imagine he’d actually wear, and yet somehow, look relatively normal on him.

He often looks… cool even.

While Seinfeld seems like an unlikely choice for a streetwear label that skews towards a much younger crowd, we’ve long contended that the legendary ’90s sitcom is a pretty potent source of inspiration for modern streetwear and if you’ve ever caught an episode of Seinfeld’s Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, you’re well aware that Seinfeld’s sneaker game is ridiculously on point. That didn’t stop people on Twitter from cracking some pretty harsh — and funny — jokes at the legendary comedian’s expense.

A handful of people seem to have loved the campaign, but we’re pretty sure if KITH had landed Jason Alexander (probably an easier get, too) this would have no doubt been universally beloved. Here are some of our favorite reactions.

Ty Dolla Sign Wanted To Redo His Album After Hearing Leon Thomas’ New Album

Ty Dolla Sign’s impact on music goes without saying. He is regularly called upon to handle other artists’ choruses, or simply provide creative energy when in the studio. While he will undeniably go down as a legend and surely has a lot more to offer, he’s also humble. One example of this came after signing the former Nickelodeon star Leon Thomas.

Thomas and Ty were recently interviewed by Rolling Stone and spoke about how their partnership came to be. In a moment that had to be special for the “Love Jones” artist, Ty Dolla Sign spoke about what hearing Thomas’ new music made him feel. “I love the way Leon speaks for himself,” the Featuring Ty Dolla Sign artist stated. “I’m gonna just be real with you: It’s giving classic. It’s giving no skips. All the way through, just ‘Oh my f*cking God!’ I’m super excited for this guy. It made me want to go back to the studio and redo my whole album.”

This is definitely high praise coming from a music veteran like Ty Dolla Sign, but it’s certainly warranted after hearing his new songs “Love Jones” and “X-Rated,” the latter featuring Benny The Butcher.

Check out Ty Dolla Sign and Leon Thomas’ full Rolling Stone interview here.

Tom Hanks Said The Discussion About Whether Or Not To Make A ‘Forrest Gump’ Sequel Lasted ‘All Of 40 Minutes’

To this day, Forrest Gump remains one of Tom Hanks’ highest grossing movies. Not only was it the top moneymaker of 1994, but it also semi-infamously beat the likes of Pulp Fiction for Best Picture (and a slew of other Oscars, including Hanks’ second in a row). Nowadays, you know what that would mean: a sequel, a franchise, maybe some spin-offs. (Lt. Dan and Bubba would both get Paramount+ series.) But back in the day, Hanks says, the discussion about whether to make Forrest Gump 2 lasted about 3 ½ times shorter than the movie. And obviously the decision was no.

“I will say that, with a long time in between, we did take a stab at talking about another ‘Forrest Gump’ that lasted all of 40 minutes,” Hanks revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast (as caught by IndieWire). “And then we never, we said, ‘Guys, come on.’”

There could have easily been a second Forrest Gump. The movie wasn’t exactly faithful to the novel, by Winston Groom, where, for starters, our simpleton hero is actually 6’6” and 242 pounds. There’s a lot of misadventures screenwriter Eric Roth left out, like Forrest playing in a folk band with Jenny, working for NASA, becoming a stunt man on Raquel Welch movies, even a brief dalliance as a wrestler. Groom even published a sequel, Gump & Co., the year after the movie burned up the box office. But it was not to be.

“A smart thing I did is I’ve never signed a contract that had a contractual obligation to a sequel,” Hanks explained. “I’ve always said, ‘Guys, if there’s a reason to do it, let’s do it. But you guys can’t force me.’ There is that natural inclination that is one of pure commerce that says, ‘Hey, you just had a hit, so do it again, and you’ll have a hit.’”

In other words, Hanks is saying that you don’t make a movie just to make money. Imagine that! But he did believe in the film; he even helped pay for some of it after Paramount wouldn’t pony up some extra bucks. Anyway, instead of making more Gump, Hanks simply kept reuniting with director Robert Zemeckis. That’s why we have Cast Away, The Polar Express, and the new live-action (plus CGI, of course) take on Pinocchio.

Harry Styles Had Fun Addressing Spit-Gate In His First Concert After The Chaotic ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ Premiere

A lot happened during the Venice Film Festival premiere of Don’t Worry Darling, but one (fake) story towered above them all: Some people thought that pop star-turned-actor Harry Styles spit on his co-star Chris Pine. While it has been revealed that no spitting occurred, Styles could not help but make light of the situation at his New York show on Wednesday, September 7.

In a fan-posted Twitter video, Styles can be heard addressing the viral topic. “It’s wonderful to be back in New York. I just popped quickly to Venice to spit on Chris Pine, but fear not, we’re back,” the Harry’s House artist jokes as attendees erupted in screams, applause, and laughter.

Styles then turned the rant into a more endearing and encouraging speech, saying “My only job tonight is to entertain you. I promise you we’re going to do our absolute very best. Your job tonight is to have as much fun as you possibly can. If you want to sing, you want to dance, please feel free to do whatever it is you want to do. Please feel free to be whoever it is you always wanted to be in this room tonight.”

Styles chose to steer into the skid and it seemingly went over well.
