Bad Bunny isn’t sweating the conservative backlash against his upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show. During the monologue for his latest SNL hosting turn, Benito poked fun at the fake concern from pundits trying to persecute his lack of English lyrics, telling viewers they have “four months to learn” Spanish ahead of his performance if they really want to know what he’s saying.
And, as he also delivered the monologue in much-improved English, he provided a perfect example of bilingualism for those who seem to be so distraught over his selection. Of course, the exaggerated outrage over his booking is less about the language and more about the NFL and Roc Nation’s repudiation of the xenophobic conservative agenda — which is ironic, considering all the culture war nonsense was always just a cover for grifters and greedy capitalists to remove what few restrictions are left keeping them from going full-on locust plague on the American economy.
Meanwhile, Bad Bunny himself has repeatedly made it clear that he couldn’t care less about anyone’s feelings when it comes to his cultural pride. His recently concluded Puerto Rico residency — which blew Amazon Music streaming records out of the water, reaffirming his popularity and the choice to book him for the Super Bowl — included a bunch of locals only shows, while the last time he was on SNL, he used the platform to give viewers a dense history lesson on Latino history in the US.
Although the women behind the fictional Kpop Demon Hunters trio Huntr/x were supposed to make their live television debut performing on The Tonight Show, it looks like they just couldn’t wait until Tuesday. Instead, they made a surprise early drop-in to 30 Rockefeller Plaza on Saturday night to join host Bad Bunny for an SNL sketch inspired by their hit Netflix movie and its runaway success among borderline obsessive fans.
In the sketch, Bad Bunny — who is celebrating the announcement of his Super Bowl Halftime Show in his second hosting appearance this year — plays one of those fans, who keeps derailing his friends’ brunch conversation with talk of the animated film’s plot and themes. At one point, he zones out during the discussion to vibe to “Golden,” the signature soundtrack hit, with Audrey Nuna, EJAE, and Rei Ami appearing in a thought bubble over his head, prompting appreciative applause from the audience.
However, as his friends, played by show regulars Chloe Fineman, Mikey Day, and Sarah Sherman, finally lose their patience, Bowen Yang pops out in character as KDH villain Jinu to sing the evil boy band Saja Boys’ soul-sucking “Soda Pop.” That’s when Bad Bunny evokes his favs, and the real-life Huntr/x appear to perform their own evil-expelling hit (which Bowen can’t help dancing along to). And yes, they sound just as good as they do in the film.
You can check out the sketch up top, and tune in to check out the group’s true television debut on The Tonight Show Tuesday, October 7.
What’s great about a festival environment is that with a bunch of artists all in one place, there’s plenty of opportunity for collaborations that probably wouldn’t have happened otherwise. Sabrina Carpenter proved that at the 2025 Austin City Limits Festival this past weekend, by bringing Shania Twain out for “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
Japanese Breakfast got in on the collaborative fun, too. During her set, she was joined by fellow ACL performers Magdalena Bay. Michelle Zauner fake-talked into a giant old-fashioned phone before bringing the duo out, at which point they didn’t do one of either act’s songs. Instead, they teamed up for one of the biggest 2000s-era indie classics: MGMT’s “Time To Pretend” (here’s a video).
This is just Jbrekkie’s latest collab, as she recently teamed up with South Korean band Silica Gel for “NamgungFEFERE.” Meanwhile, shortly before the fest, Magdalena Bay shared a pair of new songs, their first of the year.
Check out Japanese Breakfast’s (incomplete) Austin City Limits setlist (via setlist.fm) below.

The first weekend of the 2025 Austin City Limits festival is in the books. Before looking forward to the upcoming second weekend, though, it’s good to look back, especially at headliner Sabrina Carpenter’s set on Saturday, October 4, as it was a major highlight of this year’s event so far.
For one, she brought out Shania Twain to sing “That Don’t Impress Me Much” (here’s a video). Introducing Twain, Carpenter said, “I show love in weird ways. One of the ways I show my love is by gift-giving. That’s one of my languages, and I thought it’d be fun to give you guys a little gift tonight, give you a little present because you all showed up and showed out for all of us. Awesome. Will you please make the most noise in the world for the incredible, one and only Shania Twain?”
Later, Carpenter continued her tradition of “arresting” somebody for being too hot, and this time, the honor went to fellow ACL performer Djo (Joe Keery). Here’s a video of that.

Keeping up with new music can be exhausting, even impossible. From the weekly album releases to standalone singles dropping on a daily basis, the amount of music is so vast it’s easy for something to slip through the cracks. Even following along with the Uproxx recommendations on a daily basis can be a lot to ask, so every Monday we’re offering up this rundown of the best new music this week.
This week saw Fred Again.. launch (or continue, perhaps) an era and Kali Uchis extend her own current epoch. Yeah, it was a great week for new music. Check out the highlights below.
Fred Again.. and Amyl And The Sniffers — “You’re A Star”
The new era of USB is here, as Fred Again.. recently announced of his constantly evolving album. The first taste of it is the skittering “You’re A Star,” a collaboration with Amyl And The Sniffers.
Kali Uchis and Mariah The Scientist — “Pretty Promises”
Last week was big for fans of the connection between Uchis and Mariah The Scientist. The pair dropped a video for their previously released collaboration “Is It A Crime,” and they dropped “Pretty Promises,” a new one from Uchis’ deluxe Sincerely: P.S. album.
Ashnikko — “Wet Like” Feat. Cobrah
As the release of Smoochies approaches, Ashnikko has unveiled the raunchy “Wet Like,” a collaboration with Cobrah. Perhaps Ashnikko herself described it best by calling it music to “eye-f*ck a stranger in the club to” and “music to top to.”
Taylor Swift — “The Life Of A Showgirl” Feat. Sabrina Carpenter
Swift naturally had the most-discussed album of the week with The Life Of A Showgirl. To help bring it home, she recruited one of the biggest new pop stars of the past couple years (and a former Eras Tour opener), Sabrina Carpenter, to join on the album-closing title track.
Myke Towers, Kris R, and Alemán — “K Hubo Ps Mor”
Towers has released three albums in just over the past year. Unsurprisingly, then, he returned with new music last week, when he teamed up with Kris R and Alemán on the loving “K Hubo Ps Mor.”
Danny L Harle — “Azimuth” Feat. Caroline Polachek
Harle has been a major part of Polachek’s career lately, co-producing essentially the entirety of her two latest albums. Harle has a project of his own coming out, so Polachek returned the favor on the ethereal dance single “Azimuth.”
Empress Of — “Blasting Through The Speakers”
This week, Empress Of will have some eyeballs on her when she supports Lorde on some upcoming shows. She’ll have a new song in tow, too, as she just released the bumping and atmospheric “Blasting Through The Speakers.”
Artemas — “Superstar”
Artemas has keep busy since his 2024 breakout viral hit “I Like The Way You Kiss Me.” The latest from him is an upcoming mixtape, Lovercore, which he delivered a taste of last week with the techno-inspired “Superstar.”
Leon Thomas — “Just How You Are”
Thomas is getting ready to unveil a new EP, Pholks. It’s off to a strong start, as last week, he shared the groovy and catchy single “Just How You Are.”
Giveon — “Dancing In The Smoke”
TV and movie soundtracks have been a reliable source of strong one-off songs from beloved artists lately. That’s true of the upcoming second season of Netflix’s Nobody Wants This, which counts among its soundtrack cuts the yearning ballad “Dancing In The Smoke” from Giveon.
The first weekend of the 2025 Austin City Limits Music Festival, from October 3 to 5, was electric. It was hard not to be with headliners Sabrina Carpenter, Hozier, Doja Cat, Luke Combs, The Strokes, John Summit, and Doechii, along with the other stellar names sprinkled throughout the poster, familiar faces like Djo, Mk.gee, Role Model, Wet Leg, Japanese Breakfast, MJ Lenderman, Magdalena Bay, King Princess, The Dare, Hotline TNT, and more.
It was an event not to be missed, and those who couldn’t make it out to Texas didn’t have to go without, as Hulu came through with a livestream. For the fans who were on the ground, though, they enjoyed an even more magnificent time, and a lot of them looked pretty spectacular while doing it.
Throughout the weekend, the weather unsurprisingly hovered in the 90-degree range, meaning fashionistas in attendance didn’t have to compromise when it came to their outfits (unless they were planning on wearing puffy jackets and flannel-lined jeans in a time when Texas isn’t all that far removed from another sweltering summer, for some reason). There were some looks that stood out above the rest and we were there to take them in.
Now, we’re sharing them with you, so here are some of the best-dressed people we saw at the first weekend of Austin City Limits 2025.
Welcome to SNX DLX, your weekly roundup of the best sneakers to hit the internet. This week’s offerings are aimed squarely at a hyper niche crowd and unless you’re into Nike’s LeBron, there aren’t any major releases that are going to have a majority of sneakerheads foaming at the month. If you’re one of the handful that is going to lose your mind over a Sushi Club AF-1, a Patta Nike link up, or the debut of Adidas’ AE-2 — we mean no offense! In fact, we salute your taste.
But for those sneakerheads who need a new Jordan drop or a re-upped legendary colorway to compel you to spend money — well, this isn’t your week. Let’s dive into this week’s best sneakers and where to find them.
Sushi Club and Nike are joining forces! If you’re not hip to the name, Sushi Club is a lifestyle brand created by Chef Nobu Matsuhisa (Yes, that Nobu) and record producer Chris Stamp which might lead you to wonder, “what the hell does any of that have to do with sneakers?” Fair, but the brand is known for its hyper-limited capsule collections and culinary meets lifestyle experiences.
The brand is elegant, and hyper focused and that extends to its Nike collaboration. The sneaker is a simple all-white Air Force 1 with a gray swoosh, and subtle branding all made with premium leather. It’s sneaker minimalism at its finest.
The Sushi Club x Nike Air Force 1 White is out now for a retail price of $150. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT.
Nike and the Amsterdam sneaker and streetwear boutique, Patta, have teamed up for a new colorway of the brand’s Air Max Dn8. The sneaker features a synthetic leather upper with mesh detailing, Patta branding on the tongue and insoles, and a glossy blue and gray colorway.
The Patta x Nike Air Max DN8 Game Royal/ Club Gold is out now for a retail price of $210. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT (Game Royal/Club Gold)
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s signature sneaker, the appropriately named “Shai,” is hitting the SNKRS app with some new colorways. Our favorite is easily the monochromatic Masi Blue. The sneaker sports a soft neoprene shroud in a baby blue color over a synthetic leather upper with mesh accents.
It’s like wearing a pillow on your feet, but you know, still functional as a basketball sneaker. Best of both worlds!
The Converse Shai 001 Masi Blue is set to drop on October 2nd at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $130. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT.
LeBron’s latest XXIII colorway serves as a victory lap for King James. The sneaker, dubbed “Uncharted,” (a reference to LeBron’s legacy as the only player who has scored over 40K points) is dressed in a glittering holographic gold colorway with a lightweight Flyknit upper and a full-length ZoomX midsole.
It’s the sort of release every LeBron needs in their collection. Hopefully you’re lucky enough to cop a pair.
The Nike LeBron XXIII Uncharted is out now for a retail price of $210. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app or aftermarket sites like GOAT.
Adidas greatest signature basketball sneaker is getting a sequel! The Anthony Edwards 2, or AE 2, takes the general shape of the AE 1 and outfits it with new performance-based tech.
The sneaker sports a Propulsion Plate, for support and energy return, a fanged outsole for a locked in feel, a combination of BOOST and Lightstrike cushioning, and a synthetic and textile upper that takes away some of the alien-like venting of the original for a more luxurious and premium look.
This second release solidifies it — the AE lineage is one of Adidas strongest new collections of silhouettes.
The Adidas Anthony Edwards 2 Acid Orange/Core Black is set to drop on October 4th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $130. Pick up a pair at Adidas or aftermarket sites like GOAT.

As many of us who grew up in the age of Napster and Limewire can attest, creating the perfect playlist is an art form, one that we should not hand over to the likes of streaming curators or even TikTok algorithms. Instead, curation is a ship that only tried and true music lovers should helm.
Witness this year’s Austin City Limits lineup, which has to be the result of someone who has listened to the radio for an hour with a cassette just to record one song and who interrupts conversations and even pulls out Shazam while sitting front row at the movies.
Sure, the lineup pays homage to the past with the indie post-punk heavyweights many of us grew up on, like The Killers and The Strokes. But whoever this lineup steward is also blended in the new class — making sure we didn’t miss out on the likes of pop behemoths like Sabrina Carpenter, alternative indie upstarts like MJ Linderman, and country-pop soothsayers like Maren Morris.
For two weekends in Texas, starting this Friday, Austin City Limits will be giving us a line-up that reflects the way we actually listen to music. A mix of Olivia Dean’s soulful love songs up against Wet Leg’s cheeky wordplay, Gigi Perez’s acute yearning up against the guitar thrashing of Mk.Gee, and John Summit’s EDM beats not too far from Luke Combs’ chart-topping Country.
It makes sense: a report released earlier this year from Ticketmaster boasted that fans want “hyper-personalized” festival experiences that match what they’re able to do when listening at home: picking from every genre, and creating a micro-line-up of their own. It’s also worth noting the prevalence of pop stars on today’s line-ups in comparison to the first US music festivals, which mostly catered to rock fans.
Likewise, it’s no surprise that the likes of Doechii, with her delectable mix of rap delivered over pop melodies, Marina’s glittery saccharine yet sad ditties, and Japanese Breakfast’s lucid symphonic sound have all made the cut this year (according to AP, women pop performers had the biggest streaming number’s last year).
But none of this would mean anything if millennial deity picking these acts hadn’t hidden some lesser known Easter eggs in the mix — reminding us that even the freshest and youngest emerging acts deserve to be discovered and placed against the bigger names: whether that’s flowerovlove, with her contagious love songs, the emo-folk moments brought by way of Hey, Nothing, or the poetic heartbreak ballads written by Jensen McRae.
So what does this line-up for the last of the official US festival season say about where the music industry is headed, and how we, music listeners, are consuming music now? For starters, despite the yearly worry that “[insert genre] is dead,” people seem to be embracing different sounds across the board.
It’s why country star Zach Bryan made history for putting on the largest ticketed event in US history earlier this month. It’s why Bad Bunny, our “King of Latin Trap,” will be playing the Super Bowl Halftime Show next year. It’s why — according to Music Business News — the industry has continued to see growth every year for the past 10 years. And, it’s also why early 2000s hits are making their way back to the top of the charts (ex: Rihanna’s “Breakin’ Dishes”), as Gen Z gives them a second life after discovering the decade old songs while scrolling.
As a festival, it turns out that ACL is giving music fans exactly what they want: everything.
After building up the buzz for the release of his new album After The Sun Goes Down with singles like “In Plain Sight” and “Out Of Body,” Khalid has revealed the tracklist for the album, which is set to drop in one week.
The follow-up to Sincere will have plenty of narrative material to address, after Khalid was outed against his will by an ex-boyfriend who also accused him of abuse. However, judging from the video for “In Plain Sight” (the closet is literally made of glass!), Khalid doesn’t have vindication on his agenda so much as he does catharsis; the two singles find Khalid more interested in shaking off his blues than in litigating the past.
Khalid didn’t go out of his way to explain the tracklist, presumably wanting to let the music speak for itself. However, he’ll be giving fans in Los Angeles an exclusive sneak peek at the album in a listening next Tuesday, October 7. You can RSVP and find more info at Khalid.lnk.to. See below for the tracklist.
After The Sun Goes Down is due on Right Hand Music Group/RCA Records. You can find more info here.
