Daniel Caesar Announces The ‘Son Of Spergy’ Release Date With ‘Call On Me’

After returning to the spotlight last month with his new single “Have A Baby (With Me),” Daniel Caesar has announced the release date of his new album along with its second single.

Son Of Spergy will be released on October 24th via Republic Records. Meanwhile, Caesar’s latest single, “Call On Me,” is built around a grungy guitar and Caesar’s falsetto. It takes a bolder direction than prior works, assuring a romantic interest that they can call on him when they need or want anything. “Whenever you feel your tummy rumble / Need something to eat,” he croons. “Whenever you feel your pockets empty / You can call on me.”

Before sharing “Have A Baby (With Me)” and “Call On Me,” Caesar appeared on two other artists’ projects this year, with very different vibes. In February, he teamed up with Rex Orange County for two singles, “Rearrange My World” and “There’s A Field.” Then, it was announced that he’d appear on Dev Hynes’ latest Blood Orange project, Essex Honey — which was unsurprising, considering Hynes provided his songwriting prowess on the Rex OC songs. Caesar also appeared on Justin Bieber’s SWAG, reuniting the “Peaches” collaborators.

You can listen to Daniel Caesar’s “Call On Me” above.

Son Of Spergy is out on 10/24 via Republic Records. You can find more info here.

BigXThaPlug Teams Up With Jelly Roll In His ‘Box Me Up’ Video From ‘I Hope You’re Happy’

BigXthaPlug’s new album, I Hope You’re Happy may not strictly be a country album, per se, but it’s certainly got enough collaborations with country stars to warrant the comparison. In addition to Shaboozey, Ella Langley, and Bailey Zimmerman, the album features a who’s-who of country mainstays, including Darius Rucker, Luke Combs, and Jelly Roll, who appears in the latest released single, “Box Me Up.”

In the video for “Box Me Up,” the two stars team up to lament the loss of love. Jelly Roll — who, incidentally, started out as more of a traditional rapper in the same vein as BigX — sings the hook, which posits, “If I lose you tonight / Take my love and hang it out to dry / If I lose you tonight / Box me up and bury me alive.” Meanwhile, BigX promises “I’ll never be the same” should this pairing break up, with the song itself leaving the outcome ambiguous. This is some real beggin’ music here, and the combination of Jelly Roll’s raspy wail and X’s barrel-chested grumble makes the fusion of rap and country the perfect vehicle for it.

Earl Sweatshirt Released His New Album ‘Live Laugh Love’ Just A Week After Announcing It

Just like his Odd Future compatriot Tyler The Creator, Earl Sweatshirt moves differently than many of his peers. For instance, did you know he just announced a new album? It’d be okay if you didn’t, because it’s already out, just a week after he announced it — which was at a release party for the project he didn’t even attend.

It’s called Live, Laugh, Love — an ironic title, to say the least — it has 11 tracks, and it’s mostly produced by Theravada, with some additional production by Navy Blue, Black Noise, and Child Actor. It’s a fairly familiar Earl endeavor, pairing the LA rapper’s avant-garde, free association rhymes with equally unconventional beats, with only one song lasting over three minutes.

According to Complex, Earl’s listening party took a page from his hero MF DOOM, bringing in an imposter to “perform” the tracks from the album. Such a stunt is right in line with the Odd Future sense of humor.

Earl has a habit of unconventional releases, and his latest is no exception. Live, Laugh, Love is Earl’s first album since 2023’s Voir Dire with The Alchemist, which was initially released to YouTube back in 2021 under a phony title. At the time, Alchemist said, “[Earl and I] hid a whole album on YouTube under a fake name and YouTube page. Fake album cover, song titles, the whole 9. Nobody found it yet.” They then released the album via the Gala Music service, before moving it in a slightly altered form to DSPs.

In what’s a relatively busy week for Earl, he was also (unsurprisingly) revealed as a performer for the 2025 Camp Flog Gnaw festival.

Live, Laugh, Love is out now via Tan Cressida and Warner Records. You can find more info here.

Offset’s ‘Never Let Go’ Video With John Legend Is A Somber Dedication To The Late Takeoff

Offset shares a loving ballad for fallen Migos member Takeoff with “Never Let Go,” the latest video from his new album Kiari. The track features John Legend, who sings, “I lost my brother, but I gained an angel / I remember all the times we had, forever I’m grateful / If I could get one more time to see you again / I would hold you tight and never let go, my friend.” Offset, meanwhile, reflects on the ripple effects the loss had on his life: “Ain’t been the same, ’cause the pain f*ck up everything / I mean everything, I even lost a wedding ring.”

Although much of the rollout for Kiari has found Offset in an upbeat mood — singles included “Swing My Way,” “Bodies” with JID, and “Professional” — it’s clear from “Never Let Go” that he had more on his mind recording the album than just his newfound bachelor lifestyle. The multilayered approach has resulted in his best music yet, according to Rolling Stone, and to be honest, such a earnest and heartfelt ballad (with John Legend on it, no less) would have seemed inconceivable back when he dropped Father Of 4. That he’s done so much growing up in such a short time is bittersweet, but the music almost makes it all worth it.

Kiari is due on 8/22 via Motown Records. You can find more info here.

Fred Again.. And Skepta Make Their Return With A Bass-Rattling New Collab, ‘Back 2 Back’

Skepta entered the Fred Again..-iverse back in June with “Victory Lap.” Then, Fred kept releasing new version after new version of the song.

They appear to have left “Victory Lap” behind for at least the moment, as today (August 22), the two have moved onto a new collaboration, “Back 2 Back.” The tune sees Skepta plying his signature flow over some bass-forward production from Fred.

Meanwhile, Skepta was recently involved in some transatlantic rap beef. He sparked it by pitting a bunch of American and UK rappers against each other on X/Twitter. In response to a user writing “Ngl I don’t see any UK rapper winning UK rap level is DEADDDDDD,” Skepta wrote, “The average American rapper don’t even listen to UK rappers, but we’ve listen to them (for years) and that is exactly why the UK can’t lose.” Joyner Lucas then offered to represent the US and go up against Skepta and the two ended up trading disses back and forth.

Doja Cat Is The ‘Jealous Type’ In Her Latest, New Wave-Inspired Video

’80s babies will likely appreciate Doja Cat’s new musical direction, which takes inspiration from the decade’s New Wave rock/pop movement. At least, “Jealous Type,” her first single, does. Awash in shimmering synths and that signature tom hit, “Jealous Type” presents a version of Doja that you wouldn’t expect, one that sees potential competition in someone her man says is “just a friend.” Apparently, she sometimes forgets she’s a world-famous pop/rap star and sex symbol who can make videos that directly reference forebears like Tina Turner without looking silly. That’s life.

Speaking of, “Jealous Type” is the first official single from Doja’s upcoming album, Vie, which, of course, means “life” in French. Doja’s been uncharacteristically cagey about the whole thing, but she has revealed that it’ll be more pop-focused than her last effort, Scarlet. Last time around, she was dead set on proving her rap chops to skeptics who insisted that she was just a part-timer in that realm; having done that, it sounds like she’s planning to cut loose and have a little more free-spirited fun on Vie.

Prior to “Jealous Type,” Doja kicked off her 2025 with an appearance on the F1 soundtrack cut, “Lose My Mind” alongside Don Toliver.

You can watch the “Jealous Type” video above.

Vie is due on 9/26 via RCA Records. You can find more info at DojaCat.com.

Sombr’s ‘Crushing’ Is A Catchy Highlight From His Hotly Anticipated New Album, ‘I Barely Know Her’

Sombr is emerging as a star, with a profile big enough to land a Tonight Show performance slot.

It’s all coming together as he releases his new album, I Barely Know Her, today (August 22). Among the highlights is “Crushing,” an immediately catchy pop-rock number that’s a little The Killers-esque.

Sombr talked about new music in a recent interview, saying:

“There’s always a part of having ‘hits’ that puts pressure on you, but I try to block that out. Every time I’m feeling it, I remember why I got into it and why I made those songs [‘Undressed’ and ‘Back To Friends’]. I didn’t make them to have hits; I made them because I was feeling something and I needed an escape. I needed to pour my thoughts and feelings out, and when I put them out, I received so many messages and people telling me after shows that the music has been therapeutic for them, which is exactly what it was for me.”

Zach Bryan And Kings Of Leon Reunite For A Second Collaboration, ‘We’re Onto Something’

Before Zach Bryan and Kings Of Leon released their recent collaboration “Bowery,” Bryan called it the “honor of my life.” It was a Bryan song featuring Kings Of Leon, and now Bryan has returned the favor by hopping on another track, this time with the band having the primary credit.

Today (August 22), they shared “We’re Onto Something,” a breezy, harmonica-laden Southern rocker.

This comes shortly after Bryan revealed that a new project titled With Heaven On Top is due for next January. Earlier this year, Bryan also teased an album called Motorbreath, sharing some spoken-word audio from Matthew McConaughey in which he says, “This is not a film about a band. This is a film about a boy from Oklahoma, a boy who joined the Navy with a love of writing. That writing connected with people — a lot of people. This film is about a group of best friends taking a two-week motorcycle ride across America while recording one final major-label album. Oh, and the title of the film, you ask? Motorbreath.”

As for Kings Of Leon, they’re fresh off the release of their 2024 album Can We Please Have Fun. “Bowery” and “We’re Onto Something” are the band’s first new songs since the album.

The 2025 Camp Flog Gnaw Lineup Word Search Is Live And Already Has Fans Ready For November

tyler the creator
Getty Image

For the past couple of years, Tyler The Creator — who never does anything the “normal” way, if he can help it — has shared the lineup for his Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in a truly original and interactive way. Rather than sharing the flyer outright like any other music festival, he always gives fans a chance to figure out the lineup with the help of a word game. Last year, it was a crossword. This year, he’s trying something new.

The 2025 Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival lineup is being revealed via an interactive word search that went live a few minutes ago, and fans are already clamoring for not only the unscrambled lineup, but also, for November 15-16, when Tyler and friends will once again take over Dodger Stadium for what has become one of the best festivals in music.

On a cursory glance as I try to write this, I see Tems, 2 Chainz, Larry June & The Alchemist, and Samara Cyn — so, yeah, I’m already queueing up for tickets. You can check out the word search here, or wait a couple of hours, and the unscrambled flyer will likely be up at CampFlogGnaw.com. We’ll update this post when that happens, but in the meantime, down the rabbit hole I go.
