Make sure you’re here tomorrow for the complete Best and Worst of Friday Night Smackdown column.
WWE Friday Night Smackdown Results:
– New Day opened the show to celebrate their 8th Smackdown Tag Team Championship victory last week. They were interrupted by Lucha House Party, who were then interrupted by The Miz and Morrison. Everyone was interrupted by the Forgotten Sons. The Sons attacked, beating down New Day.
1. Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: King Corbin defeated Drew Gulak. Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro attacked Daniel Bryan during the match, distracting Gulak. Corbin snuck up behind Gulak, shoved him into the ring post, and pinned him. After the match, Nakamura and Cesaro held Gulak so Corbin could knock him out with his kingly scepter.
2. Sheamus defeated Daniel Vidot in short order with a Brogue Kick. Later, Sheamus returned to intimidate Michael Cole.
– Another Jeff Hardy retrospective video aired.
3. Lucha House Party defeated The Miz and John Morrison. Gran Metalik countered Miz’s Skull-crushing Finale with a victory roll to win the match.
4. Money in the Bank Qualifying Match: Lacey Evans defeated Sasha Banks. Banks had the match won with a roll-up, but the referee was busy dealing with Bayley and missed it. Banks got distracted by yelling at Bayley herself, allowing Evans to hit the Women’s Right and win. After the match, Tamina showed up and kicked Bayley.
– Mandy Rose vs. Carmella and Otis vs. Dolph Ziggler are next week’s Money in the Bank qualifying matches.
5. Women’s Tag Team Championship Match: Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross (c) defeated Carmella and Dana Brooke with a double-team DDT.
– The show ended with Triple H and Shawn Michaels doing some light comedy and getting interrupted by Facetime calls from Stephanie McMahon, Ric Flair, and the Road Dogg. Vince McMahon interrupted to talk about how WWE has done a lot of bad and boring things, but this is one of the worst. The show ended with Vince turning out the lights, and literal cricket chirps. I’m not doing a bit.
Bill Belichick is known for being a cold, heartless, football cyborg. This has worked pretty well for him, as he might be the greatest coach in football history and has turned the New England Patriots into a juggernaut over the course of his tenure in Foxboro. But like all humans, there is a complexity to every human, and every now and then, we get a glimpse into Bill Belichick: Fun Guy.
An example of this came when he got invited to Randy Moss’ Halloween party and went as a pirate, much to the delight of everyone, namely Randy Moss, who was SpongeBob. Another example of this happened on Friday evening, when the Patriots’ coach got shown on television during ESPN’s broadcast of the 2020 NFL Draft.
There was an issue, though: Belichick stepped away from his, uh, table that had laptops on it and ostensibly was his personal war room. Instead, THERE WAS A DOG.

Belichick eventually showed up and had a treat for the pupper.

There is something very, very funny abut Belichick’s dog sitting there stoically while he went to get a handful of trail mix or whatever Bill Belichick does when he steps away from work. The Patriots took an interesting player — Kyle Dugger, a safety from Lenoir-Rhyne — although I could use several more hours of footage involving Belichick and his best friend.
Thursday night saw a new record fall for the mega popular battle royale game Fortnite, but it had nothing to do with firing pixelated weapons. A live Travis Scott in-game concert drew record players to watch the in-game spectacular, as Scott debuted a new collaboration with Kid Cudi and a lot of special effects for the streamed concert performance.
On Friday, Fortnite announced that the appearance broke a record for gamers playing during the event, with a whopping 12.3 million concurrent players in-game during the show.
Over 12.3 million concurrent players participated live in Travis Scott’s Astronomical, an all-time record!

Fortnite maker Epic has said encore presentations of the performance will run a few more times, in case you missed it. But it shows just how big an attraction a virtual concert is these days. Video games have become a place of escape for gamers during the pandemic, but also of musical refuge. Two different benefit concerts are taking place in the Minecraft universe, and others have been in the works in various video games in recent weeks.
Fortnite in particular is no stranger to concert events. The previous record was held by DJ Marshmello’s in-game concert drew 10.3 million players in 2019. It’s also held movie tie-ins at its Risky Reels location in-game, most notably a Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker trailer that actually contained a key piece of plot that didn’t appear anywhere else.
It’s clear by now that these in-game promotions not only draw huge crowds, but that they can actually be entertaining as well as newsworthy. So expect to see more of them in the future.
