When Will Sydney Sweeney’s ‘Immaculate’ Arrive On Digital?

Immaculate
NEON

If you missed the devilishly low price of $6.66 to watch Sydney Sweeney in Immaculate, you’re in luck.

The horror movie and surprise box office hit for Neon, which was directed by Michael Mohan and written by Andrew Lobel, is available for digital purchase and rental on platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Fandango At Home starting, well, today. A Blu-Ray and DVD release will follow on June 11.

“Originally the script was vastly different,” Sweeney told the Los Angeles Times about the origin story of the brilliantly marketed Immaculate. “Once I got my hands on it and we hired Michael, we drastically revised it so that it could fit who I am today and the world today. But the through line of the story always has stayed the same. And I think one of the reasons I loved it so much was that some of the scariest and most raw, guttural moments in this movie are in real life.”

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Sydney Sweeney (Anyone But You, The White Lotus) stars as Cecilia, an American nun of devout faith, embarking on a new journey in a remote convent in the picturesque Italian countryside. Cecilia’s warm welcome quickly devolves into a nightmare as it becomes clear her new home harbors a sinister secret and unspeakable horrors.

A History Of The Mavs-Clippers Playoff Rivalry, And What To Watch For In The 2024 Edition

On Sunday, the Los Angeles Clippers will welcome the Dallas Mavericks to Crypto.com Arena for Game 1 of a best-of-seven first round series. While eight different series will begin over the weekend, this Western Conference tilt is arguably the most anticipated of the opening round, in part due to the recent history between the clubs.

The Mavericks and Clippers will meet in the first round for the third time in the last five years, with L.A. claiming victory in each of the first two battles. Still, those matchups were highly memorable due in part to the individual heroics of Luka Doncic and Kawhi Leonard, and in order to look ahead to this year’s forecast, we must look back to learn from history.

The First Battle

The first time the Clippers and Mavs met in the playoffs during this era was in 2020 in the Orlando Bubble. It was the first-ever playoff series for Doncic, who further cemented his claim as one of the game’s best young players with an incredible performance. He averaged 31.0 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game in what became a six-game war, and Doncic had an unbelievable 43-point, 17-rebound, 13-assist masterpiece, capped off by a ridiculous game-winner, to even the series in Game 4.

The Clippers closed things out with wins in the final two games, and Leonard punctuated the series on the Clippers’ side. He averaged more than 32 points and 10 rebounds per game, scoring 29 points or more in each contest, and the Mavericks simply could not stop the Clippers. L.A. scored 1.21 points per possession with a 61.9 percent true shooting mark in the series. The Clippers went on to blow a 3-1 lead to the Nuggets in the next round, which marked the end of the Doc Rivers era in Los Angeles, but the first round series was memorable.

The Rematch

Dallas took a 2-0 lead on the road in the 2021 rematch behind 70 combined points from Doncic. The Dallas superstar also scored 46 points while dishing out 14 assists in Game 7, but the Clippers ultimately won four of the final five games to advance. Doncic was arguably the best player in the series, scoring 39 points or more in four of the seven games, but Leonard was again ridiculous. He averaged 32.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 61.2 percent from the field and 42.5 percent from three-point range. That included 36.5 points per game in the final two games of the series with a casually brilliant 70/50/100 shooting line.

In the end, the Mavs failed to slow the Clippers again, and it was the final segment of Rick Carlisle’s tenure on the Dallas bench. The Clippers reached the Western Conference Finals before bowing out of the playoffs.

What To Watch For In 2024

As noted above, this the third matchup in the last five years, but it’s also been a while and the teams look very different from their last playoff meeting. The Mavericks disappointed with a 38-44 season a year ago, capped by an intentional dip at the end of the regular season for draft purposes. That ultimately landed Dereck Lively in Dallas, but the Mavericks were not a playoff factor. Prior to that, Dallas put together a 52-win season and a Western Conference Finals appearance in 2021-22, but the Clippers fell short of the playoffs. L.A. did post a winning record in 2021-22, but it wasn’t enough, and the Clippers lost in the first round in 2022-23. Leonard missed 112 of a possible 164 games over those two seasons, greatly contributing to L.A.’s lack of overall success.

For the Clippers, everything centers on whether Leonard will be healthy and available. At the time of this post, his injury status is unknown for Game 1 and beyond. Leonard has not appeared in a game since March 31 and, while some are hopeful, hope isn’t a plan. Uncertainty around Leonard is deeply unfortunate, particularly in a season in which the former NBA Finals MVP was able to play a great deal and operate at a sky-high level. It is difficult to “preview” the matchup without knowing Leonard’s status but, in simple terms, L.A. is not the same team — on either end of the floor — without Kawhi Leonard.

Dallas is on track to be more whole in terms of roster, and Doncic has played nearly half (13 of 28) his career playoff games against the Clippers. He hasn’t been perfect against L.A., including a blowout loss in at least one game in each of the first two series, but he also averaged 33.5 points, 9.5 assists, and 8.8 rebounds per game at 21 and 22 years old. Doncic projects as a top-three finisher in this year’s regular season MVP race, and he is the centerpiece of an offense that is utterly dynamic when he and Kyrie Irving share the floor.

Beyond Leonard’s availability, there are storylines with James Harden’s (lack of) playoff track record and the Clippers posting a middling 10-10 record over the final 20 games of the regular season. At one point, L.A. was arguably playing the best basketball in the league outside of Boston, but that has leveled off considerably. Still, the Clippers are No. 4 in the NBA in offensive rating (117.9) and 41-22 in games featuring both Leonard and Paul George. In fact, L.A. has a preposterous +12.6 net rating with Leonard and George sharing the court, and the hope would be that the duo will be able to feature throughout the series.

On the other side, there is the major question of just how real the improvement of the Mavericks’ defense actually is. Dallas finished just No. 18 in the NBA in defensive efficiency but, over a 20-game sample to close the regular season, the Mavericks were 16-4 with the NBA’s best defensive rating (107.2). Caveats should always apply to NBA numbers accumulated in March, but the Mavericks have impressed. With Doncic and Irving able to buoy the offense, the Mavericks are often free to utilize top-tier defenders that might be marginalized in other offensive contexts. It is also hard to forget that the Clippers have done anything they’ve wanted to do in the first two playoff series, albeit with different overall personnel.

Each of the eight NBA playoffs series set to begin this weekend have clear appeal, but the most conventional may be Clippers-Mavericks. It has star power. It has history. It has the level of projected competitiveness that one would associate with a No. 4 vs. No. 5 matchup. These are two strong basketball teams with great players and, with fingers crossed for Leonard’s health, the series has the makings of a potential classic.

Ticketmaster And Live Nation Are Reportedly Being Sued By The Justice Department For Creating A Touring Monopoly

The US Department of Justice is about to drop the hammer on Live Nation and Ticketmaster for their longstanding monopoly over concert promotion. According to The Wall Street Journal, the DOJ is preparing to bring an antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation — which it could file as soon as next month — for using its leverage over live events ticketing through Ticketmaster to undermine competition in the space.

Live Nation acquired Ticketmaster in 2010, and since then, consumers have complained of increasing prices and fees, while at the same time, independently owned venues have gone out of business or been absorbed into Live Nation’s network. The issues came to a head with the return of live entertainment after the 2020 shutdown over COVID, with fans experiencing problems buying tickets for <Beyoncé and Taylor Swift’s return tours.

Those problems spawned a href=”https://uproxx.com/pop/ticketmaster-hearing-senators-corny-taylor-swift-jokes/” target=”_blank” title=””>Congressional hearings about Ticketmaster’s business practices, prompted Ticketmaster to revise some of its policies, and even sparked a class action lawsuit from Ticketmaster customers who felt jilted by hidden fees, website breakdowns, and vastly inflated prices. Separately, but probably relatedly (we have eyes), several musicians’ tours across genre were canceled or shortened by low ticket sales in the past year, with social media users pointing out that prices have just gotten too high to afford for most people.

Meanwhile, Live Nation’s head of corporate affairs Dan Wall has argued that artists set prices, that those prices are subject to high demand and low supply, and that the majority of the fees charged go to venues (failing to mention, of course, who owns an outsized and growing proportion of those venues).

As noted by WSJ, the federal government did not try to block the merger between Live Nation and Ticketmaster but did agree to a settlement in which Live Nation and Ticketmaster would incur steep fines if they were found to be retaliating against venue operators making use of competing ticketing services by doing things like blocking Live Nation artists from playing those venues. Of course, in 2019, Live Nation was found to be violating exactly those terms, forcing an extension of the settlement terms to 2025. It looks like it still wasn’t enough; now, Live Nation could find itself in an even more precarious position.

Drake Told Metro Boomin To Make Some Drums, So He Sent Some To The Producer Via A Drumline In Atlanta

At long last, Drake finally came through with “Push Ups,” a diss track responding to all the hate that has come his way lately. He has many targets on the tune, but in one line in particular, he goes directly after Metro Boomin, saying, “Metro, shut your ho-ass up and make some drums, n****.”

Now, Drake is continuing to lean into the drums thing with some social media barbs.

He started with a clip from Nick Cannon’s classic 2002 movie Drumline, but with Metro’s face edited over Cannon’s.

Later, he upped the ante even more: Drake shared a video of an actual drumline performing outside of Atlanta’s Magic City strip club. The band was presumably hired by Drake, as he captioned the clip, “From me to you,” alongside a crossed fingers emoji. Notably, Future and Metro had some promotional activity happening outside the club just days earlier.

Meanwhile, Drake also went after Future on “Push Ups,” rapping, “I could never be nobody number-one fan / Your first number one, I had to put it in your hand.” That was a response to a Future “We Don’t Trust You” lyric: “You a n**** number one fan, dog / Sneak dissin’, I don’t understand, dog / Pillowtalkin’, actin’ like a fed, dog / I don’t need another fake friend, dog.”

‘The Naked Gun’ Remake Starring Liam Neeson Just Cast An Unexpected Romantic Lead

Liam Neeson
Getty Image

The Naked Gun remake just added a surprising member to its cast. Pamela Anderson will reportedly join Liam Neeson in the updated take on the 1988 comedy classic.

While it’s been confirmed that Neeson is playing the Frank Drebin role that was famously played by Leslie Nielsen in the Police Squad! television series and subsequent Naked Gun films, there’s no word if Anderson will take over the role of Jane Spencer that was originally played by Priscilla Presley. However, the former Baywatch star will be a love interest in a similar vein “with a mix of sexiness and goofiness.”

Via The Hollywood Reporter:

Akiva Schaffer is directing the comedy, which has a script by Dan Gregor, Doug Mand and Schaffer. The trio were behind the popular and Emmy-winning Disney+ movie Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.

The original movie, written and directed by Jerry Zucker, Jim Abrahams and David Zucker and based on their television series Police Squad! that lasted only six episodes, spoofed the tropes of police shows and films that had ingrained themselves into audience’s minds over the decades.

The Naked Gun remake has been a pet project for Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane who has been talking about putting his own spin on the classic comedy film for years. MacFarlane serves as producer on the remake, and he’s been championing Neeson for the role after working with the actor on Ted 2 and A Million Ways to Die in the West.

The Naked Gun remake is set to arrive in theaters on July 18, 2025.

Olivia Williams Did Not Enjoy Her ‘Alarming’ And ‘Harrowing’ Guest Appearance On ‘Friends’

Friends Olivia Williams
Warner Bros. Television

There is presumably a ton of pressure that comes with appearing on a fan-favorite TV show, so add in a two-part season finale and a wedding plotline, and that’s a disaster waiting to happen. Friends fans know how the infamous season four finale and subsequent cliffhanger affected the beloved series, but it seemed like making the actual episode was more stressful than the failed wedding itself.

Olivia Williams guest-starred in the two-part season finale “The One With Ross’ Wedding” in 1998, and her experience was not very friendly. She told The Independent, “Well, just as an example, I was taken to the studio in a shared car with a wonderful actress whose character, I think, was called ‘Old Woman’,” she recalled, describing the old woman as “distinguished” and “very good,” though she was not liked by production. “At one point, a producer – who shall remain nameless – just yelled at her: ‘You’re not funny!’ And she didn’t come back the next day. So that was alarming,” she explained. It’s not clear where she went but maybe she just enrolled in some comedy classes.

In the episode, Williams portrays a bridesmaid who hits on Joey. Of course, Williams understood why the show’s producers were so particular. She continued, “Friends was a brand, and you had to fit the brand. You go into hair and make-up and you’re told, ‘There’s a look here, this is what we do.’ And that involved, essentially, plucking off all of your eyebrows.” She said. It was the ’90s after all, but she begged, “Please don’t take my eyebrows off, I might need them in another job… That’s the sense in which it was harrowing,” she concluded.

While her experience might have been a little sour, Williams is gearing up to appear in another beloved franchise for Max’s upcoming Dune: Prophecy series. Hopefully, she will keep her eyebrows but who’s to say?

6 alternatives to saying ‘let me know if you need anything’ to someone in crisis

When we see someone dealing with the loss of a loved one or some other major life crisis, it’s instinctual for many of us to ask how we can help. Often, the conversation looks something like this:

Us: I am SO sorry you’re going through this. What can I do to help?

Person in crisis: I honestly don’t know right now.

Us: Okay…well…you let me know if you need anything—anything at all.

Person in crisis: Okay, thank you.

Us: I mean it. Don’t hesitate to ask. I’m happy to help with whatever you need.

And then…crickets. The person never reaches out to take you up on the offer.

Was it that they didn’t really need any help, this person going through a major life crisis? Unlikely. As sincere as our offer may have been, the problem may be that we didn’t really offer them what they actually needed.

One of those needs is to not have to make decisions. Another is to not have to directly ask for help.

When a person is in a state of crisis, they can feel like they’re drowning. They might be disoriented and fatigued, and doing anything other than keeping their head above water long enough to breathe can feel like too much.

If someone is drowning, you don’t ask them what you can do to help or wait for them to ask. You just take action.

Here are some specific ways you can take action to help someone who you know needs help but isn’t able or willing to ask for it:

1. Make them food

It may be tempting to ask if you can make them a meal and wait for them to say yes or no, but don’t. Simply ask if they or anyone in their household has any dietary restrictions, and then start shopping and cooking.

Meals that can be popped in the refrigerator or freezer and then directly into the oven or microwave are going to be your best bets. Include cooking or reheating instructions if it’s not obvious. Disposable aluminum trays are great for homemade freezer-to-oven meals and can be found at just about any grocery store. Casseroles. Stir fried rices. Soups. Comfort foods.

If you don’t cook, you can buy them gift cards to local restaurants that deliver, or give them a DoorDash or UberEats gift certificate (large enough to cover the delivery, service fees and tip as well, which combined can be as much as a meal sometimes).

lasagna in the oven

Even better—organize a meal train

If you want to make it a community-wide effort and no one else has done so yet, set up a “meal train,” where different people sign up for different days to bring meals to spread out the food help over time. There are several free websites you can use for this purpose, including Give In Kind, Meal Train, and Take Them a Meal. These sites make it super easy for anyone with the personalized link to sign up for a meal.

someone scrubbing a pot in a kitchen sink

2. Clean their kitchen and/or bathrooms

Kitchens are always in use, and keeping up with dishes, especially in a house full of people, is a challenge even under normal circumstances. Same with keeping the refrigerator cleaned out. Same with cleaning the bathroom.

Rather than asking if they want it done, as many people won’t want to say yes even if they would appreciate the help, try saying something like, “I want to come and make sure your kitchen is ready for you to make food whenever you want to and that your bathroom is a clean space for you to escape to whenever you feel like it. Is Tuesday or Wednesday at 1:00 better for you?”

The fewer complex decisions a person in crisis has to make the better, so saying, “Is this or that better?” rather than offering open-ended possibilities can be helpful.

woman folding clothes

3. Do laundry

Offer to sit and chat with them, let them vent if they need to…and fold their laundry while you’re at it.

Are they the kind of people who might be embarrassed by you seeing or handling their underclothes? Fine. Wash, dry and fold towels or bedsheets instead. Just keep the laundry moving for them.

And if it doesn’t feel appropriate or desirable for you to do their laundry at their house, you can offer a pick-up laundry service, either yourself or an actual hired service. Tell the person to put bags or bins of laundry at the door and you (or the service) will come pick it up and bring it back clean and folded the next day. That’s a great way to be of service without feeling like you’re intruding.

man pulling food and toilet paper out of the car

4. Run errands for them

“Hey, I’m heading out to the store, what can I grab you while I’m there?” is always a welcome phone call or text. Let them know when you’re going to be running your own errands and see if there’s anything they need dropped at the post office, picked up from the pharmacy, or anything else.

You can also offer to run errands with them. “Hey, I’ve got some errands to run. Do you want to join me?” They may have no desire to leave the house, or they may desperately want to leave the house, so be prepared for either answer, but the offer is solid. Even just not having to drive might be a relief if they have things they need to pick up or drop off places.

woman holding hands with a small child as they walk

5. Provide childcare

If the person is a parent, taking their kid(s) out for a chunk of the day can be a big help. Caring for yourself is hard when you’re going through a difficult time, and the energy a person might use to actually do that often gets usurped by caring for others. Obviously, parents can’t just neglect their children, so anything you can do to relieve them of that responsibility for a while is gold.

Offering to take the kids to do something fun—a day at the park, ice skating, etc. is even better. A parent knowing their kid is safe, occupied and happy is its own form of relief.

6. Ask what they’re struggling with and focus your help there

While all of these practical household things are helpful, there might be some people who find comfort or solace in doing those things themselves. If that’s the case, talk with them about what their immediate needs are and what they’re having a hard time dealing with. Then focus your energies there. “What can I do to help?” may not be as effective a question as “What are you having a hard time doing right now?” They may not know what kind of help they need, but they probably know how they’re struggling.

One person might be lonely and just want some company. Another person might need a creative outlet or a mindless distraction or something physical like going for a walk or a hike. Someone else might have pets they need help caring for, a garden that need tending or the oil changed in their car. Someone might even need a person to serve as a shield or buffer between them and all the people coming to offer their condolences.

Note that many of these things are basic life maintenance stuff—those are often the things that get hard for people when they’re dealing with the emotional and logistical stuff surrounding whatever they’re going through, and they’re often the easiest things other people can do for them. A time of crisis is not a normal time, so normal etiquette, such as asking if you can or should do something rather than just letting them know you’re going to do it, doesn’t always apply.

If there’s a specific thing with specific tasks, such as planning a funeral, that might be a good opportunity to ask how you can help. But people deep in the throes of grief or struggle often need someone to the reins on basic things without being asked to. Again, there’s a good chance they feel like they’re drowning, so don’t wait for an invitation. Just grab the life preserver, put it around them and do whatever needs to be done to get them to shore.

Pet cockatiel is obsessed with singing ‘September’ by Earth, Wind and Fire

“Do you remember…the 21st night of September?” has been one of the most iconic song openings of the past 45 years, as the R&B hit by Earth, Wind and Fire perpetually serves as a catchy favorite for dance clubs, movie scenes and TikTok clips alike.

However, “September” has also gained wild popularity among an unlikely group—pet cockatiels.

One cockatiel in particular has taken a shining to the song to the point of obsession, to the combined delight and chagrin of his owner. You see, Kiki doesn’t just like listening to the song, he sings and dances to it. Loudly. Over and over. At uncomfortable hours of the morning.

Kiki’s owner has shared multiple examples of her pet bird reveling in his favorite song, and it’s hilarious every time.

Watch:

“Kiki…it’s 7 o’clock in the morning…” Yeah, Kiki does not care. Kiki is feelin’ the groove.

This isn’t just a one-off and it’s also not just a random song. Here we can see that Kiki recognizes it and sings it when his owner plays it. (Just after pooing on her leg—the reality of having a bird, in case these videos make you want one).

@kiki.tiel

But Kiki doesn’t even need anyone else around in order to sing his favorite song. Here he is singing and dancing all by himself when his owner left the room and left her camera running to see what he would do.

@kiki.tiel

Partying without me 🙁 #cockatielsoftiktok #birds #fyp #for you

As cute and hilarious as this is, it surely gets old after a while, right? It’s one thing to watch in a video—it’s got to be entirely another to hear it all the time at home.

It’s also not just a Kiki quirk. Apparently, “September” is a “thing” among cockatiels. Other cockatiels have been known to love it and sing it, though not quite as well as Kiki does.

Someone on Reddit asked why so many cockatiels love the song—one person even said it was basically the cockatiel national anthem at this point. No one knows exactly why, but this explanation by Reddit user nattiecakes is as good an explanation as any:

Yeah, cockatiels genuinely like the song in a way they don’t universally take to many other songs. My cockatiel is 17 and early in life basically seemed to max out his harddrive space learning a little bit of La Cucaracha, The Flintstones theme, the phrase ‘pretty bird,’ and this horrible alarm clock sound that is similar to the hungry baby cockatiel sound. We thought we could not get him to learn anything else because they do have some limits.

Then ‘September’ came. Every cockatiel loved it. We decided to see if our cockatiel loved it.

I sh*t y’all not, within a DAY he whistled the first three notes, which is really all that matters. He hasn’t been able to learn more, but he loves it.

Now our African grey whistles it to him constantly. He used to reliably whistle La Cucaracha to our cockatiel when our cockatiel would get angry and upset, and our cockatiel would start singing instead and forget he’d been upset. But almost immediately our grey switched to using ‘September’ 90% of the time. Like, it’s so plain even to our grey that ‘September’ is the song to unlock a cockatiel’s better nature. I think the grey likes it a lot too, but he has many other songs he likes better.

As for why cockatiels like this song so much… all I can guess is it really resonates with their cheery vibe. I think the inside of a cockatiel’s mind is usually like a disco.”

Rock on, Kiki. Just maybe not so early in the morning.

Dentist explains the 3 times you should never brush your teeth

For those who love the oh-so fresh feeling of immediately running to brush their teeth after a meal, we got some bad news.

London-based dental surgeon and facial aesthetics practitioner Dr. Shaadi Manouchehri recently shocked around 12 million viewers on TikTok after sharing the three occasions when you should “never” be scrubbing those pearly whites—if you want to actually protect your teeth, that is.

The hardest part about this video, which some viewers are undoubtedly still processing, is that each of these no-no times is exactly when brushing your teeth is the only thing you’ll want to do. So much for instincts.

Number one on Manouchehri’s list, which caused the most controversy in the comments, is right after vomiting. Yep, you read that right.

“This is because the contents of the stomach are extremely acidic and the mouth is already in a very acidic state so if you brush straight after [vomiting] you’re basically wearing away your enamel,” Manouchehri explained.

Of course, commenters weren’t willing to let this one go without a fight. One viewer wrote, “I would rather lose all of my teeth than not brush after vomiting.”

Manouchehri also says to avoid brushing your teeth directly after eating breakfast. This is because “when you’ve just eaten, the mouth is, again in a “very acidic state,” so if you’re brushing your teeth you’re rubbing that acid on the tooth, which wears down the enamel.” Other sources have also confirmed that brushing your teeth tight after any meal isn’t really recommended.

This goes double for right after sweets. Manouchehri says to wait a full 60 minutes before putting a toothbrush anywhere near your mouth after having something sugary. Because…you guessed it…acid.

Does this advice seem counterintuitive? Don’t worry, you’re not alone.

@drshaadimanouchehri #dentist #dentistry #dentaladvice #learnontiktok #funfacts #londondentist #dentalcleaning #teethbrushing #teethbrushingmadeeasy #teethbrushingtips #londondentistry #marylebonedentist #fypシ ♬ original sound – Dr Shaadi Manouchehri

“Ah, yes, the three times I want to brush my teeth more than any other time,” one person joked.

Luckily, there are few alternatives to try if you want that good, clean mouth feeling but don’t want to compromise your enamel—the simplest being to either rinse with or drink water. You can also use sugar-free chewing gum or conclude your meal with dairy or non-acidic foods, according to Advanced Dental Associates. If you still crave a little more of a hygiene bang, you can opt for a mouthwash with fluoride and using a tongue cleaner, which removes excess acid, per Curetoday.com.

Guess there’s a time and a place for everything, even when it comes to dental hygiene.
