Death Cab For Cutie Shares A New Single, ‘Arrow In The Wall,’ And Its Remix With Chvrches

Death Cab For Cutie has shared some new music today (August 16). Their newest single, “An Arrow In The Wall,” comes in two separate forms — a thumping, percussive track produced alongside John Congleton, and a remix with Chvrches.

On “Arrow In The Wall,” Death Cab vocalist Ben Gibbard warns the listener to keep their eyes peeled and remain vigilant, even if things are going smoothly.

“An arrow in the wall, arrow in the wall / Take it as a warning / That you are gonna fall, you are gonna fall / Even if you’re soaring / Take it as a warning,” sings Gibbard on the song’s chorus.

“‘An Arrow In the Wall’ is about the warning signs all around us in the 21st century that society-at-large is in decay,” said Gibbard. “The arrow lodged in the wall might have missed this time, but it would be naive to assume the next one won’t also. We have been good friends with CHVRCHES since touring together in 2019. They took our maudlin little dance track and turned it into a major key club banger.”

Death Cab is gearing up for a tour with The Postal Service, an electronic side project of Gibbard’s, which kicks off this September.

In the meantime, you can listen to both versions of “Arrow In The Wall” above.

Jamila Woods’ Mesmerizing ‘Boomerang’ Video Tells A Love Story Shot In Reverse

Jamila Woods is back with a new song, “Boomerang,” ahead of her next album, Water Made Us. Co-written by Woods, Nao, Grades, and George Moore, the track is propelled by a hypnotizing synth instrumental.

“I’m giving you it all or nothing at all / I’m waiting for your call and hoping you fall for me,” she adds a romantic spin to the lyrics.

“I think you really wanna dance with me / How could you really wanna dance with me? / Do you really wanna dance?” Woods then continues to ask, doubling as a question for both the lover and listener.

She leans into the free-spirited and fun aspects of the song in the music video, which is played in reverse, as she goes from a laundromat to a glamorous costume in a bar. By the end, she is performing front and center on a stage.

In a statement, Woods revealed “about that kind of relationship that keeps popping back up throughout your life, that magnetic attachment you have to someone and the excitement and anxiety that comes with wondering ‘will we or won’t we?’”

“We shot it entirely in reverse at the Chicago Magic Lounge, which is known for its portals and hidden rooms,” she added about the video. “The incredible burlesque artist Po Chop directed the movement and helped me learn all the choreo forwards and backwards, quite literally.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene Is Now Openly Lobbying To Be Trump’s VP Despite, Well, Everything

Donald Trump is now on his fourth indictment thanks to the RICO charges he’s facing in Georgia, Marjorie Taylor Greene‘s home state, so what better time to shamelessly throw her hat in the ring to be his new running mate?

The moment came while Greene was busy slamming Republican Governor Brian Kemp for recently repudiating Trump’s claims that the “2020 election in Georgia was stolen.”

“For nearly three years now, anyone with evidence of fraud has failed to come forward – under oath – and prove anything in a court of law,” Kemp tweeted in response to Trump claiming he has proof the Georgia election was rigged. “Our elections in Georgia are secure, accessible, and fair and will continue to be as long as I am governor. The future of our country is at stake in 2024 and that must be our focus.”

As a tried-and-true MAGA warrior, Greene was incensed over Kemp’s remarks and wouldn’t rule out challenging him for Georgia’s senate seat in 2026. However, she might too busy working in a little place called the White House.

Via Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

“I haven’t made up my mind whether I will do that or not,” she said. “I have a lot of things to think about. Am I going to be a part of President Trump’s Cabinet if he wins? Is it possible that I’ll be VP?”

Greene called serving as Trump’s running mate “an honor” and something she would consider “very, very heavily.” She’d previously shunned suggestions that she join Trump on the GOP’s 2024 presidential ticket.

Heading into the summer, failed Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake has long been considered the front-runner to be Trump’s new running mate on account of her reportedly living at Mar-a-Lago. However, recent reports have suggested that Trump has grown tired of Lake being a “spotlight hound.”

Could this be Marj’s time to shine? And is she not an even bigger “spotlight hound” than Lake? Seriously, how is that gonna work?

The ‘Warrior Nun’ Resurrection Plans Sound Rather Ambitious After The Series Was Cancelled By Netflix

Netflix has become known for resurrecting fan-favorite series like Lucifer and Manifest to streaming success after network cancellations. The tables have turned, however, because when Netflix cancelled Warrior Nun after two seasons, the show’s apparently modest but incredibly devoted legion of fans revolted. These same fans had already tweeted pleas at critics who didn’t review the show’s second season. And following the cancellation news, they bizarrely felt like Kelly Clarkson could help them save the series that adapted Ben Dunn’s manga-style Warrior Nun Areala comic.

Call it the Snyderhead phenomenon or whatever you’d like, but those Warrior Nun fans were emboldened. And they lobbied so hard that creator Simon Barry shared some unexpected news in June. “Today I’m happy to officially report that because of your combined voices, passion and amazing efforts — Warrior Nun will return and is going to be more EPIC than you could imagine,” Barry tweeted at the time. Beyond those details, nothing else materialized, although that seems appropriate, given that both the WGA and SAG-AFTRA have since gone on strike.

The Hollywood Reporter did report that this revival would not go down at Netflix, however, and now, word has surfaced that the show will not return as a series but “as a trilogy” of movies. Whether that means these will stream on another service or go theatrical (which sounds like too much of a gamble for any non-proven franchise right now), no one has clarified. However, executive producer Dean English took to YouTube and announced what was essentially possible to announce given the strike situation:

“I am very happy to announce that Warrior Nun is coming back as a trilogy of motion pictures. Once again, a trilogy of feature films. Three … One thing we need to touch on involves the strike in Hollywood involving actors and writers. And it’s due to that, that we cannot make any announcements today on that front.”

There you have it. Warrior Nun fans will have a few Christmas presents to come, and hopefully, they will open them, so that future fandoms can one day be as equally celebratory. You can watch English’s remarks below.

Jamal Murray Won’t Suit Up For Canada In The FIBA World Cup

Canada has awfully high expectations entering the 2023 FIBA World Cup. While the United States are the favorites to win, the Canadians are not far behind them, as the team has a roster filled with NBA talent. Their backcourt, in particular, is loaded, but as we learned on Wednesday morning, a crucial piece of the puzzle for Canada will not suit up in the tournament.

In a statement, Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray announced that the wear and tear of the team’s run to an NBA championship last year will prevent him from participating.

“When I came into training camp, I wanted to see how my body would respond after a long and demanding season and if I would be physically able to compete at the highest level required for the World Cup,” Murray said.

“In consultation with medical staff and the team, it is clear that additional recovery is required, and I have made the difficult decision to not participate in the tournament. It’s still a dream of mine to represent Canada at the Olympics, and I will support the team every step of the way as they pursue this goal.”

While it’s a tough blow for Canada, the good news is the team still has quite the backcourt, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luguentz Dort, R.J. Barrett, and Dillon Brooks all on the roster. Here’s hoping Murray is able to get right before the NBA season and can be part of a Canada team at the Olympics next summer.

Quavo Debuted A New Song, ‘Who Wit Me,’ At The Atlanta Braves Game Against The New York Yankees

Earlier this month, Quavo announced that he’d delayed his upcoming album, Rocket Power, to “run some more tests before the rocket is ready to launch.” Apparently, one of those tests was the home crowd response test. Quavo previewed part of the album for Atlanta fans during yesterday’s Braves game against the New York Yankees, which Atlanta won, 5-0. Standing atop the Braves’ dugout ahead of the game, Quavo performed a new song called, “Who Wit Me,” with the Braves’ social team capturing the performance above.

Rocket Power, which is named in honor of the late Takeoff, will be Quavo’s first solo album since 2018 project Quavo Huncho, and the first Migos solo project since the death of Takeoff late last year. Shortly after announcing the album, Quavo and Offset reunited at the 2023 BET Awards to perform the group’s first No. 1 hit, “Bad N Boujee,” together for the first time in a year. While they denied that this meant a group reunion was in the works, Offset called it a soul-clearing experience.

Meanwhile, Quavo continued the rollout for Rocket Power, releasing the single “Turn Yo Clic Up” with Future — a single that found Future seemingly trying to resurrect his dispute with NFL player Russell Wilson. Fortunately, Quavo appears to be keeping his relationship with various sports teams positive; you can watch his performance of “Who Wit Me” above.

Ed Sheeran Gave An Update On His Contribution To One Of Taylor Swift’s Upcoming ‘Taylor’s Version’ Albums

Longtime friends Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift are both killing it on their individual tours. Both artists have dates going well into next year. And they also have projects on the way.

Swift is currently gearing up to release 1989 (Taylor’s Version), a re-recording of her fifth studio album. But fans are also wondering when they can expect a re-recording of her sixth studio album, 2017’s Reputation. On Reputation is a collaboration with Sheeran and Future called “End Game.” While this song became a fan favorite, Sheeran hinted that it may be a while until we get Reputation (Taylor’s Version).

During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s Deep & Shallow Podcast on Sirius XM, Cohen asked Sheeran if he had recorded a new version of “End Game” yet.

Sheeran responded, “No, I haven’t. No. No.”

While this particular song is still on the way, it seems Swift has begun re-recording Reputation. Swifties noticed that a new version of “Delicate” played in an episode of the second season of The Summer I Turned Pretty.

Elsewhere in the interview, Sheeran admitted that he had not yet gone to any of the Eras Tour shows, as he is currently busy with his own tour. He did, however, share that he hopes to catch a show next year.

You can see a clip from the interview above.

Here’s When You’ll Be Able To Watch ‘Barbie’ From The Comfort Of Your Mojo Dojo Casa House

Barbie is inching closer to becoming 2023’s highest-grossing movie. The Greta Gerwig film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling is currently just shy of $1.2 billion, meaning it should pass The Super Mario Bros. Movie ($1.358 billion) later this week or next. Other records set by Barbie include: the biggest movie from a solo female filmmaker ever and, as reported by Deadline, it’s the highest grossing “Warner Bros. movie in the studio’s 100 year history at the domestic box office with $537.4M, unseating previous champ, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight which made $534.9M back in 2008.”

Barbie will continue to play in theaters for months, but Warner Bros. Pictures announced that the film will arrive on digital on September 5th. It will available on Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, and Vudu, among others, for prices ranging from $19.99 to $24.99. Robbie (and Allan!) better get a cut.

Before Barbie came out, Robbie told Collider how she pitched the movie to executives. “Studios have prospered so much when they’re brave enough to pair a big idea with a visionary director. And then I gave a series of examples like, ‘dinosaurs and [Steven] Spielberg,’ that and that, that and that – pretty much naming anything that’s been incredible and made a ton of money for the studios over the years. And I was like, ‘And now you’ve got Barbie and Greta Gerwig.’ And I think I told them that it’d make a billion dollars, which maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, OK?!”

It turns out she was underselling with “only” a billion bucks.

Common Spilled About How Unimpressed Michael Jordan Was With His Basketball Skills In The NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

In a new interview with Men’s Health, Common looked back at some stories throughout his life and career. One of which was when Michael Jordan critiqued his basketball skills after watching him play in the 2010 NBA All-Star Celebrity game.

The two had crossed paths before, but reunited several times after that.

“I had met Michael before because I was a ball boy for the Bulls when I was a kid,” Common said. “He doesn’t remember me from those days, but he also had come to one of my shows in Chicago at the House Of Blues. Mike was watching my show, but I didn’t let people know he was there ’cause he was up in the balcony. Until my last song.”

“When I did, everybody just watched him and just forgot I was on stage,” he added.

Sometime later, the two talked about Common’s role in the NBA game.

“I just played in the celebrity game and hit the last free throws to seal the game,” Common said. “In this picture, when I greeted him, he told me to stick to rapping. He grounded me in this picture, for sure.”

“I couldn’t believe that he didn’t recognize that my game was actually a good game,” he joked.

Lauren Boebert Had An Odd Coincidence On The Day That Her MAGA Hero Was Indicted On RICO Charges

Rootin’ tootin’ Lauren Boebert doesn’t have the most graceful responses when her MAGA idol, Donald Trump, lands indictments. That phenomenon is beginning to be a regular occurrence with Trump racking up his fourth one this week, which caused him to get so torqued up that he couldn’t even spell “indicted” correctly or even muster up his usual ALL CAPS mode. Whereas ex-Trump attorney Jenna Ellis went into “live laugh love” mode, so it’s an all-around circus of responses other than “America’s Mayor” Rudy Giuliani actually not performing (perhaps after recalling that he pioneered the prosecutorial use of RICO statutes back in his 1980s heyday).

Speaking of RICO, here’s how Boebert spent her August 14 prior to the RICO-themed indictment. She was hanging in the small town of Rico, Colorado. Yes, she posted photos that prove that she was there, and these didn’t make it onto her main Twitter account, or they’d probably be attracting more attention.

“Honored to spend time with firefighters from the Rico Fire Protection District – true heroes dedicated to keeping our community safe,” the MAGA congressman tweeted. “Their bravery and commitment are truly remarkable. Grateful for their sacrifice and service!”

Boebert posted these photos only a short time before the Georgia indictment dropped on Monday evening, but of course, several people couldn’t resist commenting with a “RICO So fitting” and the like. Boebert’s timing isn’t always impeccable, but here, she inadvertently nailed it.
