Wendy’s New Mushroom Bacon Cheeseburger Is An Umami Bomb — Here’s Why You Need To Taste It

Wendy's New Mushroom Bacon Cheeseburger(1024x450)
Uproxx

Fast food is having a rough year. Due to high costs (though we’d like to argue it’s more a food quality issue than a cost one), a lot of people have turned away from the drive-thru, and the big brands have tried to win us back by offering updated value meals and budget-minded deals.

But here is the thing with these value meals: they almost always consist of tried and true classics from the menu. And it makes sense; these brands are collecting their best-selling (and cheapest) items because it’s safe, and that’s great if all you’re looking for is a cheap cheeseburger and some fries to get through the day. But as a result, innovation has suffered.

We’ve seen a lot of value meals and revived classics this year, but not a lot of new menu items. Which is why we’re so hyped for Wendy’s new Mushroom Bacon Cheeseburger.

A mushroom-topped burger with muenster cheese sounds more like something we’d get from Shake Shack than Wendy’s. But is it any good? Here is our full review.

Mushroom Bacon Cheeseburger

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

I’m just going to come out and say it at the start — this burger is f*cking incredible! At first, I thought this might’ve been a result of the overall blandness of fast food in 2024, but by the time I was finished with this burger, my opinion was solidified.

The Mushroom Bacon Cheeseburger is available in single, double, and triple form, but truthfully, the single is all you need if what you’re after is a decadent and indulgent burger. The patty is thick, salty, and beefy, topped with a layer of soft roasted mushrooms, crispy, perfectly cooked bacon, melted muenster cheese, and an herbaceous and pungent creamy garlic spread.

A single bite of this burger will inundate your tastebuds with an absolute umami bomb of savory, and rich flavors. It’s not quite as mushroom-forward as the name would expect, it doesn’t have that sometimes off-putting mushroom funk, instead, the mushrooms work in harmony with the garlic sauce and the sharp and tangy qualities of muenster cheese to create something that is incredibly earthy, smokey, and above all else, savory. The beef and bacon combo alone is a bouquet of meaty, smokey, sweet, and salty flavors.

The real strength of the burger is the way the mushrooms elevate it, rather than distract. Mushroom burgers can often treat the ingredient like it’s the star of the show, but it’s not, this is a burger after all, it’s all about the beef! And every ingredient here works to elevate that beefy flavor.

The Bottom Line:

We’re just going to say it. The Mushroom Bacon Cheeseburger is the best new cheeseburger we’ve had all year. It’s savory, umami-rich, and decadent in the best way. Get is ASAP.

There are all sorts of tips and tricks that people use in order to enjoy their shower routines. If you’ve never heard about why you should attach a clothespin to the shower, you’re in for a treat.

With essential oil and a wooden clothespin, you can turn your shower into a luxurious experience that feels like you’re at a world-class spa.

Choose the Best Essential Oil

Depending on the kind of experience you want, you need to choose an essential oil that’s right for you. Some of this may depend on whether you want to take an invigorating morning shower or a relaxing evening shower.

Here are some popular essential oils:

  • Lavender, which can aid in sleep and relaxation
  • Chamomile, which is calming with an herbal scent
  • Rose, which can reduce anxiety
  • Vetiver, which offers a woody scent that can boost the mood.
  • Citrus (orange, lemon, grapefruit), which can be invigorating

Of course, if you have another favorite, go ahead and use it.

Apply the Oil

There’s a reason the clothespin should be wooden – so that it absorbs the oil. You don’t need to soak the clothespin. A few drops should do the trick. You can always reapply the oil for your next shower.

Then, clip it to your shower, as close to the showerhead as possible without it getting wet.

Enjoy the Magic!

As the steam from the hot water approaches the clothespin, it will release the scent. Think of it like a diffuser inside your shower.

Take a few deep cleansing breaths so you can truly appreciate the aroma.

Justin Bieber’s Wife Hailey Came To His Defense Over His Ranking On A Greatest Pop Stars List

Billboard recently published a list of the greatest pop stars of the 21st century. The top two haven’t been revealed yet (but come on, it’s Taylor Swift and Beyoncé in some order), but the rest of the top 10 goes Rihanna, Drake, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Adele. Bieber’s wife, Hailey, is none too pleased about her husband being ranked No. 8.

“Billboard is a f*cking joke as per usual,” Hailey wrote in the replies on Instagram. She’s presumably annoyed that Justin isn’t ranked higher, although a funnier scenario is her being annoyed that he’s too high. “Really? Justin Bieber over Usher? There would be no Justin Bieber without Usher!”

The Billboard write-up notes that Bieber “hasn’t released a new single or album in a few years, but it seems like the 30-year-old star is experiencing a healthy, loving life for the first time.” Justin and Hailey welcomed their first child, Jack Blues Bieber, earlier this year.

Bieber’s last album, Justice, came out in 2021 and spawned four top-10 singles: “Peaches,” “Holy,” “Anyone,” and “Ghost.” There’s no plans for a new album yet, but Mk.gee recently told The New York Times that’s been writing and recording with the “Sorry” singer. “He’s searching,” he said, adding, “Anything that comes out of his mouth: That’s pop music. You can really do pretty wild stuff behind that, just because it represents something.”

Get Rid of the Mice in Your Home Once and For All

Finding mice in your home is never great. While some people keep mice as pets, finding them randomly is never good. Those mice are likely carrying bacteria and diseases. Humans and pets can be at risk because they can leave traces of bacteria just about anywhere.

So, how do you catch and dispose of a mouse? And how do you mouse-proof your home? Here are some tips.

Mice are probably more scared of you than you are of them. They are able to hide well, and if you do find one, you should count on the likelihood that he has a few friends hiding, too.

Mice can enter your home at any season. Your home offers warmth and a source of food. They’ll look for fabric, cardboard, and soft plastic to gnaw on so they can make a nest. Cooler areas in the summertime can also be ideal for them.

While there are wooden mouse traps and glue traps, you can choose a humane option – the bucket mouse trap.

You’ll need a 5-gallon bucket, a wood plank, a soda can, a drill, a thin dowel, an old towel, peanut butter, bleach, and gloves.

Follow these steps:

  1. Remove the handle of the bucket to expose the holes. No handle? Use the drill.
  2. Drill a hole into the bottom of a soda can.
  3. Insert the dowl through the can and into the holes of the bucket.
  4. Smear peanut butter on the can.
  5. Place the bucket where you think the mouse is living.
  6. Position the wood plank on the bucket so the mouse can climb onto the can.

Basically, the mouse will climb the ramp, get the peanut butter, lose its footing on the can, and fall into the bucket. Then, you can release the mouse out into the wild, preferably far away from your home.

Don’t Leave Water Bottles in Your Car; Firefighters Offer This Warning

Throughout the warmer months, firefighters are quick to share a warning about leaving water bottles in cars. While it seems like a harmless habit, it can lead to a potentially dangerous situation. It’s why so many fire officials are raising awareness of it all.

What Happens?

If you’re familiar with physics, sunlight will pass through the plastic bottle, which is filled with water. This acts as a magnifying glass. The light becomes focused on a single point. If the point is flammable, such as a fabric car seat, it’s enough to start a fire.

Across the globe, there have been documented incidents where vehicles have caught fire because of the phenomenon of leaving a water bottle in a hot car. A firefighter from Idaho even left a bottle in his car. When he returned to the car, he noticed smoke. Then, he found the seat was smoldering. It’s all because of the focused light. Luckily, he was able to get it extinguished quickly before there was any further damage.

How You Can Prevent Fires

Fire safety officials have provided a few safety measures that you can follow:

  • Don’t leave plastic water bottles in the car.
  • If you do have to leave one inside, find a shaded area, even if it’s under a seat.
  • Use insulated or opaque bottles to avoid allowing light to pass through.

You’re likely to hear more about this in the near future. Public awareness campaigns have been launched by fire departments across the US, using community bulletins, news outlets and social media to educate the masses.

Fix a Hole in Your Clothing without Having to Sew

ripped clothes

There’s nothing worse than reaching for your favorite sweater or other article of clothing only to find a hole. Don’t toss it, though. Holes can happen, and you can save your favorite items by learning about a quick option that doesn’t involve sewing.

First off, there are a few reasons why holes happen, so you should know what they are. This way, you can hopefully avoid the problems in the future:

  • Belts
  • Zippers
  • Bra clasps
  • Chlorine
  • Snags on rough surfaces
  • Even your washing machine

If you find a hole that measures 5mm or less, you’ll need an iron, a piece of wax paper, and a fusible bonding web. This bonding web can be found at craft stores and even Amazon.

Here are the steps to take:

  1. Turn the clothing inside out and place on an ironing board with the hole facing out.
  2. Cut a piece of the fusing web so that it is just a little bigger than the hole.
  3. Push the sides of the hole together so that it looks like it’s gone, then place the fusing web over it. Place the wax paper on the same spot.
  4. Set your iron to the “wool” setting. Place it on the wax paper. Hold it in place for about 10 seconds.
  5. Remove the wax paper and pick up the clothing. Turn it right-side-in and examine. You shouldn’t see the hole at all!

The more you use this method, the easier it will become.

Hubie Brown, Who Has Been Alive For Literally Every Moment In NBA History, Will Call His Final Game This Season

Basketball fans are going to see broadcasts get a little worse sooner rather than later. That’s because Hubie Brown, the legendary former coach who has turned into a stalwart on ESPN’s coverage of the league, will only call one more game before he retires at 91 years old.

“We are going to give Hubie one last shot on a game,” ESPN president Burke Magnus told Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated. “He deserves that. We think the world of him. I think it is absolutely remarkable the level in which he still calls games at age 90-plus. I don’t mean to be purposely mysterious here but we are going to honor Hubie during the regular season at some point to be determined and send him off in style.”

That he is still capable of working at 91 is remarkable, but Brown is still sharp as a tack and as good as it gets calling basketball games, and while no one has deserved retirement more, it’s always a tough day when someone as highly-regarded as him calls it a career. There is, still, no one better at seeing something, pointing it out, and explaining why it’s a big deal than Brown, and he has terrific chemistry with his broadcast partners.

We’re all going to miss Hubie, and to celebrate the end of his time in the booth, we wanted to celebrate him by having some fun and looking at everything he’s seen over his extraordinary life. You see, Hubie was born on Sept. 25, 1933, which means he has been around for, quite literally, every single game that the NBA has played — the league was founded in June of 1946, when he was 12 years old. That got us wondering: How old was he during some of the biggest moments in world, American, and NBA history over the last century or so? Let’s dive in.

Start of WWII: 5 years old (Sept. 1, 1939)
End of WWII: 11 years old (Sept. 2, 1945)

Does Butter Have an Expiration Date? You Need to Read This.

Butter

Butter might be one of the most important ingredients in your fridge. It’s used for breakfast breads, hot dinner rolls, and even baking. If you’re like me, you even have your favorite brand of butter.

You might toss the box away once your butter lands on a butter dish, so there’s an important question you should probably know the answer to: does butter expire?

The short answer is YES.

There is a date on the package, which may be identified as a “sell by” or “best by” date. You can typically eat the butter about a week past that date, but if it’s older than that, you should probably toss it.

If you’re not going to store the butter in the package to know the date it expires, make a little note on the fridge.

Storing butter properly is critical. Here are a few tips:

  • Store at or below 41 degrees F.
  • You can freeze butter for up to 12 months, too.
  • Store it in your fridge, but not on the door shelves.

Want to know how to tell if butter is spoiled? It will either be too soft or too hard compared to what it was when you were using it fresh. If the oils in the butter have gone rancid, you’ll smell it, too. If there’s discoloration, it’s likely mold. Any of these signs should tell you to toss the butter.

Here’s the good news. The shelf life of butter is pretty long, so you typically don’t have to worry about it going bad. Most people will use it before it ever starts to go bad.
