Sebastián Yatra Released A Self-Directed Video For ‘Básicamente’ And A Rita Wilson Collaboration

Sebastián Yatra is closing out his Dharma album era with his music video for “Básicamente” that was released last night (December 6). The Colombian pop star was also recently enlisted by Rita Wilson to feature on her song “Til You’re Home.”

Yatra is having a breakthrough year thanks to his album Dharma. He scored multiple global hits from the LP including “Pareja Del Año” featuring Myke Towers and the sunny “Tacones Rojos” that he performed alongside John Legend at last month’s Latin Grammy Awards. Yatra’s career also received a big boost when he was selected by Lin-Manuel Miranda to sing “Dos Oruguitas” for Disney’s Encanto soundtrack.

Yatra released the final video from Dharma album. While on vacation in December of last year, he filmed a candid video for the beautiful love song “Básicamente.” In the self-directed clip, Yatra releases baby turtles into the ocean and plays around on the beach.

Yatra also appears on the soundtrack for the movie A Man Called Otto which stars Tom Hanks. Hanks’ wife Wilson reached out to Yatra to record “Til You’re Home.” He sings in English alongside Wilson in the soulful ballad.

“I am extremely honored by Rita Wilson’s invitation to join her on ‘Til You’re Home’ for the A Man Called Otto soundtrack,” Yatra said in a statement. “The story behind the film is heartwarming and moving and I was inspired to convey that emotion in this song. Overall, this project has been very inspiring and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

Delighted librarian shares apology letter from guy who returned a late book 47-years later

An anonymous person checked out a book 47 years ago from the library and in an act that’s sure to bless them with an extra helping of good karma, they finally decided to return it. Earlier this month, Karen Rodricks, a library services supervisor at the library in Lake Elmo, Minnesota, opened a package that came in the mail and it contained a book from the ‘70s, “Chilton’s Foreign Car Repair Manual.”

In an attempt to avoid a gargantuan fine that may have accrued over nearly 50 years, the person who sent the book did so anonymously. Although they did include a thoughtful letter and a $200 donation to the library.

Rodricks told Minnesota Public Radio that it was the most overdue book that she’s ever seen make its way back to the library. “It occasionally happens, but what is so delightful about this book is the note,” she said.

The note that accompanied the old car manual read:

In the mid 1970s, I was living in Lake Elmo and working on an old Mercedes Benz. I took out this book for reference. A few months later, I moved and apparently the book got packed up in the move.

47 years later, I found it in a trunk with other interesting things from the 1970s. It’s a little overdue, but I thought you might want it back.

My apologies to anyone in Lake Elmo who was working on an old Benz in the last 47 years. I probably can’t afford the overdue charge, but I will send you enough for another book.

The good news for the person who sent the book is that even though they did so anonymously, it wasn’t necessary. The library no longer charges fines for overdue books, especially those checked out during the Ford administration.

“We haven’t had daily fines for overdue materials for a long time, but we still charge a replacement fee if an item is lost or damaged,” the Washington County Library wrote on Facebook. “Back in January we also eliminated what was called a ‘processing fee’ related to extremely overdue items, so now there are no charges for materials that are returned late, just those that are lost or damaged.”

However, the library will happily keep the $200 donation. “The library always needs money, and we can always, we probably will put it towards books,” Rodricks told CBS.

Rodricks believes that the person’s decision to return the book shows they are a good citizen. “It expresses that he valued having access to this book 47 years ago and he values the library enough to return it,” she said. “He just took the time, and it means the most to us. We hope other people feel this way about the library, too.”

She told CBS that unfortunately, the “Chilton’s Foreign Car Repair Manual” isn’t in good enough condition to be lent again, but she’s happy to keep the note. Let’s just hope that there’s been no one in Lake Elmo with a broke-down Mercedes who couldn’t get around for a few decades because the Chilton’s manual was checked out of the library.

California dad saves young daughter from coyote attack outside their home

People have been encroaching on the homes of wild animals for decades and, naturally, this leads to close run-ins with the animals that inhabit the areas. We’ve heard of bears in cars, opossums in garages and even bats in people’s attics. One family recently had a really scary close call with a coyote.

In a video posted to TikTok, a dad in Woodland Hills, California, Ariel Eliyahuo looks to be unpacking the car and his 2-year-old daughter is out of sight on the other side of the dark-colored SUV. You can see what looks to be a medium-sized dog walk behind the car before you hear the little girl scream. When the dad rounds the back of the car to see if his daughter fell, the coyote starts trying to run off with the child.

The whole encounter happened in merely a few seconds. In an instant, the dad has his daughter under his arm like a football, running her to safety. As he’s running with the toddler, the coyote keeps coming toward them so he throws a rock at the animal while he and his wife yell, trying to scare it away.

As people continue to encroach upon local wildlife, predator species such as coyotes become more comfortable around humans. Experts say that people feeding coyotes is increasing coyote attacks. Sure, they look like dogs, but it’s important to remember these aren’t the kind of animals you can just pick up from your local Humane Society. Coyotes are wild animals and feeding them, especially in residential areas, likely makes them associate humans with food and keeps them coming back, increasing the risk of attacks.

Thankfully, the girl survived the encounter with only a bite wound. Her mother, Shira Eliyahuo, spoke to CBS Los Angeles and said, “So I grabbed her and then I went and laid her down and then I saw like blood on her pants, and when I took it off I saw, you know on her leg, like where she got injured.” The little girl had to receive a series of rabies shots and is currently recovering.

Who Is Featured On Lana Del Rey’s ‘Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd?’

Lana Del Rey is set to return with her ninth studio album this coming March. Her new record, Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd? sees her reuniting with her longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, as well as a promising set of producers, instrumentalists, and vocalists.

As noted by the album’s cover art. Antonoff will once again handle a portion of the music production. Antonoff has produced on several of Del Rey’s albums, including Norman F*cking Rockwell and Chemtrails Over The Country Club. It looks like Antonoff will also be contributing vocally, by way of his band, Bleachers.

It appears Del Rey has also cut tracks with Canadian rapper and pop star Tommy Genesis, singer and instrumentalist SYML, Father John Misty, and New Orleans native musician Jon Batiste, who took home the Album Of The Year award at this year’s Grammys for his album, We Are.

But perhaps the most perplexing of the features is Judah Smith, who appears to be a pastor at Del Rey’s church, Churchome, according to Stereogum. It is unclear as to whether Smith will be contributing musical vocals or a spoken sermon.

World’s Busiest Actress Keke Palmer On Whoopi Goldberg’s Pitch For ‘Sister Act 3’: ‘Where Do I Sign?’

Keke Palmer is literally everywhere lately. She starred in one of this year’s biggest movies, Nope, recently hosted Saturday Night Live, and she even attempted to rewrite history and stop the Titanic from sinking. It was unsuccessful, but it’s the thought that counts. Now that the whole world was reminded of how talented Palmer is, everyone wants her to be in their various projects.

Most recently, Whoopi Goldberg announced that she is planning a Sister Act 3 and wants to recruit a ton of stars (and Jimmy Fallon, for some reason) but she is really holding on to hope that she can get Palmer involved. “I’m going to ask for Keke Palmer,” she said earlier this year. “I want everybody. I want as many people who want to have some fun, because I really, desperately need to have some fun.” After she broke up with Twitter, Goldberg clearly needs a fun new project. And luckily Palmer is in!

On a recent episode of the LA Times’ podcast The Envelope, Palmer said that she heard Goldberg’s idea and she wants to be a part of it. “My reaction was, ‘Whoopi, where do I sign on the dotted line? Because Whoopi, I’m ready. I’m ready for whatever you need from me,’” Palmer said, though she didn’t mention anything about starring alongside Jimmy Fallon, so she still has time to back out.

Palmer continued that she is ready and willing to work with Goldberg, who starred in the first two Sister Act movies in the ’90s. “Whoopi is an EGOT winner. Whoopi had her own one-woman show. Whoopi hosted the Oscars. Whoopi is everything!” Palmer added. “So for her to mention me for the Sister Act, I mean, I’m here, I’m there for whatever needs to be done, just call me up.” Palmer already has experience singing in a church choir after starring in Joyful Noise, but nobody really watched that movie, so this could be a great second attempt!

Alvvays Drop A Colorful New Video For ‘Many Mirrors’ Which Features Art By The ‘Stardew Valley’ Creator

Alvvays dropped the music video for “Many Mirrors” off their recent album, Blue Rev.

After Stardew Valley‘s creator Eric Barone heard the song, he decided to collaborate with the indie band on developing some super sick visuals for it.

The result? A colorful animated video that follows a character through different moments, including floating through space on a Christmas stocking. There’s also a fun yellow creature in a party hat who joins her along on this mysterious journey.

“It’s not every day I get an email from a cool band like Alvvays,” Barone shared in a statement. “When I learned they were fans of Stardew Valley, it felt like a real honor.”

“The whole album is fantastic, but the song ‘Many Mirrors’ had a pure, adventurous energy to it that really resonated with me,” he added. “I took that feeling and used it to create a visual world in my mind’s eye… and that’s what ultimately turned into this video. I had a lot of fun making it, and I’m really happy to be able to contribute, in a small way, to the band’s story!”

Barone also expressed a similar message on Twitter, noting that Alvvays gave him an early listen of their popular 2022 album.

Bills Star Von Miller Is Out For The Season Due To A Torn ACL

The Buffalo Bills’ push for the Super Bowl this season will not include their best pass rusher. According to Bills coach Sean McDermott, Von Miller will miss the remainder of the year after a surgery to correct an injured lateral meniscus revealed that he actually suffered a torn ACL when he went down with a knee injury against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving.

As laid out by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the imaging that the team did on Miller’s knee injury did not show a torn ACL. When he went under the knife to get his meniscus repaired, that was when it was determined that he actually tore the ligament in his knee.

Miller had previously been placed on the injured reserved with his knee injury, but the hope was that he would be able to return in time for the postseason. Now, Buffalo will go into the stretch run with perhaps their two best defensive players, as All-Pro safety Micah Hyde was ruled out for the year in September due to a neck injury.

The Bills acquired Miller during the offseason in a trade with the Denver Broncos and immediately agreed to a lucrative 6-year contract extension. He accrued eight sacks in 11 games this year.

Jennifer Lawrence’s Favorite Movie Of 2022 Is Also The Best Movie She’s Seen In ‘So Long’

There’s never a consensus “best” movie for any year (taste is subjective, etc.), but this feels particularly true for 2022. Everything from Benediction, to Tár, to Everything Everywhere All At Once, to Aftersun, among many others, has topped lists put together by critics. Causeway is also getting some year-end love, but what does one of the Apple TV+ film’s leads, Jennifer Lawrence, think is the best movie of 2022?

“I think that Woman King is the best movie I’ve seen this year, hands down, and the best movie I’ve seen in so long. I heard an interesting story about how it came to you,” Lawrence said in a conversation with Viola Davis, who stars in, yup, The Woman King.

When Lawrence wondered why Davis expressed surprise the action film was even made, the four-time Oscar nominee replied, “What I have going for me is I’m a Black actress. And I understand how people perceive that. I don’t see it as a hindrance. But when have I ever seen anything like Woman King, not just with me in it, but with anyone who looks like me in it? What studio is going to put money behind it? How are they going to be convinced that Black women can lead a global box office? So, yeah, I said, ‘That’s not going to happen, because you don’t see it.’”

The Gina Prince-Bythewood-directed The Woman King not only happened, but it was greeted with strong reviews and made nearly $100 million at the box office. It’s one of the highest-grossing non-franchise films of the year. Good news for everyone who missed it in theaters, too: The Woman King is available on streaming now.

The Weeknd’s Upcoming Song ‘Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)’ Will Be On The ‘Avatar 2’ Soundtrack

The long-awaited (by some, I guess) sequel to James Cameron’s 2009 film Avatar, Avatar 2: The Way Of Water is coming to theaters this month and today, we learned some intriguing news about the film’s accompanying soundtrack. In addition to the film’s score, the soundtrack will also feature a new song from The Weeknd, titled “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength).” Produced by Swedish House Mafia and the film’s composer Simon Franglen, the song is due for release on December 15 at 12 pm PT. The film itself will hit theaters the next day.

The Weeknd previously teased his connection to the upcoming sequel, leading to speculation about his role in the film’s soundtrack. The whole arrangement may give music fans deja vu after a similar rollout for Rihanna’s new song “Lift Me Up” from the Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. If this is the new trend, here’s a free idea for any movie studios out there looking to release any more sequels to decade-old blockbusters: we haven’t heard from Ariana Grande in while. Just saying.

“Nothing Is Lost” provides quite the cap for The Weeknd’s major 2022, which included the After Hours stadium tour, the announcement of a new HBO show, The Idol, coming in 2023, and even his own maze at Universal Studios’ Hollywood Horror Nights on Halloween.
