‘Bones And All’ Director Luca Guagagnino Doesn’t Seem Amused By People Finding A Connection Between His New Cannibal Movie And Armie Hammer

It seemed like an eerie coincidence: Around the time disturbing allegations had been made public about Armie Hammer — including claims of cannibal talk — the actor’s former Call Me By Your Name colleagues announced they were making a bona fide cannibal movie. That film — Bones and All, directed by Luca Guadagnino and starring Timothée Chalamet — is now making the festival rounds, and it doesn’t appear that the former is very amused by anyone who sees it as a reaction to the shocking Hammer news.

As per The A.V. Club, Guadagnino is spending the weekend at the Zurich Film Festival, where he was asked about it during a masterclass. “Any correlation with this kind of innuendo and silliness is preposterous,” he declared, seemingly annoyed. He then explained the project had been in the works well before claims about Hammer had gotten out.

“David Kajganich and Theresa Park, the writer and one of our producers, have been working on Bones and All since the book was released,” he said. “Many years ago, probably around the time when we were shooting Call Me by Your Name. It was to be directed by my great colleague Antonio Campos, but he decided not to go for it. That’s when they gave me the script.”

Bones and All, which is getting strongish reviews and is due in American theaters on November 18, is a road movie following two fine young cannibals, played by Chalamet and Taylor Russell.

In early 2021, Hammer was accused of sexual misconduct and other disturbing allegations by multiple women — claims that were allegedly leaked in party by his estranged wife Elizabeth Chambers. Over the summer it was discovered he was selling timeshares in the Cayman Islands, with Robert Downey Jr. helping fund his recovery. Meanwhile, the Call Me By Your Name sequel is allegedly still in the works, albeit almost certainly without him.

Steven Adams Agreed To A 2-Year, $25.2 Million Extension With The Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies brought Steven Adams on board in the lead-up to the 2021-22 season. Adams and Eric Bledsoe joined the team as part of a big trade that saw Jonas Valanciunas and Devonte’ Graham go to New Orleans and a number of promising young players (Trey Murphy, Ziaire Williams, Brandon Boston) change squads.

Upon joining the Grizzlies, Adams was basically what you expect out of the veteran big man, as he brought a physical presence to a young Memphis squad. As a result, the team is deciding to take care of him, as Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN brought word on Saturday afternoon that the two sides agreed to a 2-year contract extension that will pay the big fella $25.2 million.

As Wojnarowski noted, this means that Adams is signed with Memphis through the 2025 season, when he will be into his 30s. While he is hardly the most dynamic player in the league, he is a perfect fit on a Grizzlies team that wants to out-tough opponents, and will presumably be relied on a little more at the start of this season due to the offseason foot surgery that Jaren Jackson Jr. received.

During his first year in Memphis, Adams started 75 of the 76 games in which he appeared while averaging 6.9 points, 10 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 26.3 minutes per game.

Bryce Young Left Alabama-Arkansas With An Apparent Shoulder Injury

Bryce Young and the Alabama Crimson Tide made their way to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks in a ranked SEC West matchup. Things went pretty well early on for the reigning Heisman Trophy winner and the No. 2 team in America, as the Crimson Tide went up 14-0 in the first quarter and were not fazed by going on the road.

And then, disaster struck, as Young left the game with an injury to his shoulder. It is unclear exactly when Young got hurt, but he landed awkwardly on his right shoulder as he tried to escape pressure, and not long after, he looked to be in some visible pain after trying to throw the ball — you can see that he kept his arm down at his side and was grimacing.

Young left the field with his right arm hanging down, ripped his helmet off, threw it down to the ground, and went right into the injury tent.

After his backup, Jalen Milroe, led the team on a scoring drive thanks to a good punt return by Kool-Aid McKinstry, Young made his way into the locker room for further evaluation. We’ll keep you updated as more becomes available about his status going forward.

What Was ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ Ending In Original Script?

The most scandal-prone movie of this year’s early awards season improbably turned out to be Don’t Worry Darling. Olivia Wilde’s follow-up to Booksmart, it went from hotly anticipated to tabloid fodder, with shocking allegations of on-set spats and, during its premiere, a fun little diversion dubbed “Spitgate.” It still went on to top the box office during its opening weekend, but the reviews were only so-so. Perhaps critics may have enjoyed it had Wilde and team stuck with the script’s original ending.

Warning: To discuss the original ending of Don’t Worry Darling requires talking about the ending that made the final cut. If you haven’t seen the film and wish to preserve your innocence, turn back now, for there be spoilers. We’ll discuss the latter first.

The ending the film got: Alice (Florence Pugh), who seems to live in an isolated California company town called Victory in 1950s America, gradually comes to realize she lives in a simulation run by its Jordan Peterson-esque founder, Frank (Chris Pine). Upon discovering that she was plugged into the simulation against her will by her husband Jack (Harry Styles), Alice goes to the mirror that serves as the exit point. The film’s title suddenly comes up as we hear her take a breath, presumably escaping into the real world, although it’s ambiguous what really happens.

The script’s original ending: As per Digital Spy, it’s not just the ending that’s different; it’s the entire second half. For one thing, the simulation isn’t called Victory. It’s called Alt-Life and, in the real world, at least, it’s a lot farther into the future — 2050, to be exact. There are fewer characters; Frank isn’t even around, nor are Shelley (Gemma Chan) or Margaret (KiKi Layne). The main characters also have different names: Alice is Evelyn, Jack is Clifford, and Wilde’s Bunny is Betsy.

What’s more, the revelation comes a lot earlier — around the halfway mark, to be exact. Evelyn/Alice follows Clifford/Jack to his work, where she sees him enter an empty house. She later goes into the house, finds the mirror passageway, and enters it, waking up in the real world. It’s there that she discovers a computer message from Dr. Anderson, its version of Frank, describing Alt-Life as a “”society of men, by men, and for men.”

Evelyn/Alice also discovers that in the real world, she and Clifford/Jack had divorced and she’d become a huge success. Clifford/Jack couldn’t take that, so he drugged her, faked her death, and plugged her into the simulation. Evelyn/Alice returns to the simulation before Clifford/Jack returns.

Over time, Clifford/Jack begins to suspect his wife knows the truth. He tried — and fails — to erase her memory. Upon learning that the exit point has been moved, at which point Evelyn/Alice tortures Clifford/Jack to reveal its new location. She even threatens to sodomize him with a broom handle (seriously). After he tells her, she does it anyway.

But wait, it’s not over yet. Evelyn/Alice escapes into the real world, but Clifford/Jack follows her. A fight ensues, which ends with her stabbing him, first with a kitchen knife, then with a screwdriver to the eye. She’s wounded and passes out, awakening back in the simulation, where Dr. Anderson tried to gaslight her, telling her that the idea that she was living in a simulation was a mere delusion, which had led her to kill her husband.

Evelyn/Alice plays along, only to bite a chunk out of Dr. Anderon’s cheek. She’s sedated but when she wakes up, she’s visited by Betsy/Bunny, to whom she told the truth earlier but who didn’t believe her. Now Betsy/Bunny reveals that she knows where the new exit portal is: inside the hospital. Evelyn/Alice finally escapes again, this time for good. There is no ambiguity, beyond where she goes next.

Don’t Worry Darling is currently playing in theaters. It is presumably due on HBO Max some time in November.

The Angels And Shohei Ohtani Will Avoid Arbitration Thanks To A 1-Year, $30 Million Contract

Shohei Ohtani will cash in on his spectacular play for the Los Angeles Angels. While Ohtani has not put pen to paper on a long-term contract extension with the team and is still slated to become a free agent at the conclusion of the 2023 season, the team announced on Saturday afternoon that they agreed to a 1-year deal with Ohtani to avoid going through the arbitration process this offseason.

The team says that the terms of the deal will pay Ohtani $30 million for the 2023 campaign.

Jeff Passan added that this is a record-setting deal for the 2021 AL MVP, as no one has ever received more money as an arbitration-eligible player.

While there is a good chance he does not go back-to-back as the AL MVP due to Aaron Judge’s season, Ohtani has been nothing short of a marvel for the Angels. One of the few bright spots on a team that will miss the postseason, Ohtani has managed to get the job done at the plate and on the mount, as he is hitting .276 with a .888 OPS, 34 home runs, and 94 RBIs. As a pitcher, Ohtani has racked up a 15-8 record with a 2.35 ERA and 213 strikeouts. He’ll almost certainly get more than $30 million a year when he hits free agency, but for now, he’ll get that as a pretty nice payday.

Do Taylor Swift And Drake Have A Song On The Way?

In a move that can only now be described as “Swift-ian,” Taylor Swift has been re-recording her first six albums. Her shrewd attempt to maneuver around the fact that Justin Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, bought all of her masters (without Swift’s knowledge) and then sold them to the highest bidders, has yielded two (Taylor’s Version) editions of albums in Red and Fearless. Now as Swift is getting to work on the Reputation (Taylor’s Version) recording, she has allegedly released a collaboration track with Drake and it’s especially juicy.

Do Taylor Swift And Drake Have A Song On The Way?

But Drake and Taylor Swift recording a song together? Could this be true? According to The Sun, Swift has dug into her vault of recordings as she prepares to release Reputation (Taylor’s Version) next year, following the release of Midnight this October 21st. One of the track’s from the vault, is reportedly a collaboration with Drake that was left off of Reputation, as Swift didn’t want to fuel the fire of her beef at the time with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian — following Kanye’s “I made that b*tch fmous” lyric. Drake and Kanye had a notoriously tepid relationship as well and this factored into the decision to hold off back then. But this new song could be on the way as The Sun quotes a “music insider” with direct knowledge of the situation:

“Taylor has pivoted her focus to re-recording Reputation and she has come across this song she made with Drake, which never saw the light of day. She knows that everyone is going to think it is about Kimye because it was her row with them which inspired a lot of Reputation. But this one is far more direct than the other songs, which was why they didn’t decide to release it in the first place. It’s no secret that both Taylor and Drake have had tumultuous relationships with Kanye, so they didn’t hold back when it came to recording. Obviously she is totally over the whole thing now but this is one which fans will want to hear.”

Time will tell if a collaboration song from Drake and Taylor Swift ever comes to fruition, but this seems like a pretty juicy one if it does drop.

There Is A Fishing Scandal That Involves Two Dudes Stuffing Weights Into Fish

A lot of sports that don’t get nearly as much attention as your footballs or your basketballs have been engulfed in controversy lately. There is a gigantic chess scandal in which the No. 1 player in the world, Magnus Carlsen, alleges that he has been on the other side of cheating by Hans Niemann. And earlier this week, poker has seen allegations of cheating pop up, too, during a Hustler Casino Live stream that featured an all-in decision that made little sense.

And now, the world of fishing is getting in on the fun. The following video, which shows arguments over weights being placed inside of fishes, began circulating on Twitter on Saturday. Things are obviously testy, and then, someone pulls out a knife, cuts the fish open, and some weights do, indeed, come out. At one point, it was discovered they stuffed a walleye fillet into one of the fishes to add weight.

Pretty crazy, eh? Well, let’s turn to a source for information on the internet every time we need more context to things: a message board. This time, the allegations come from the site The Ohio Outdoors, which tells us that a pair of fishermen, Chase Cominsky and Jake Runyan, were found to have cheated at “one of the biggest- if not the biggest Lake Erie walleye tourney.”

“Sounds like they’ve won some big money and a boat fishing these ‘eye tournaments, and have been accused of cheating numerous times and even failed their polygraph test after they won the fall brawl a year or two ago, but their attorney saved their asses from the sounds of it,” the poster wrote. “I’m sure more details will be shared over the next week or so, but this is crazy.”

We will, like you, wait with bated breath for the next sport with a huge cheating scandal.

The Los Angeles City Council Just Declared October 1st To Be ‘Bad Bunny Day’

Bad Bunny made the final U.S. stop in his World’s Hottest Tour last night in Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium, but the “Ojitos Lindos” singer didn’t leave the City of Angels without making an even greater lasting mark than just a memorable on-stage performance. That’s because the Los Angeles City Council declared that October 1st will be forever known as “Bad Bunny Day” in L.A.

L.A. City Councilman Kevin de León (a former congressman) was the one who introduced the resolution, which was seconded by every other member of the council. In speaking with local press, De León cited Bad Bunny’s, “Immense cultural impact to the Latino community across the City of L.A.” Adding that, “The City of LA’s population is 50% Latino, one of the largest Latino populations in the world outside Latin American countries. Bad Bunny’s cultural impact will have a tremendous and positive influence on future generations and will redefine Latino culture in Los Angeles and beyond for years to come.”

The cultural impact of what Bad Bunny has done for Música Latina’s global appeal is undeniable. He was the most-streamed artist in the world on Spotify last year and continues to raise his profile as an artist. Furthermore, the motion from the L.A. Council cited, the reggaeton and trap artist as, “Transcending those genres through the incorporation of rock, punk, and soul.”

The Peter Thiel-Backed Conservative Dating App ‘The Right Stuff’ Is Live And The Jokes Are Flying

Just in time for Donald Trump’s Twitter clone to hit still more bad times, here’s “The Right Stuff.” No, not the longtime neo-Nazi site of the same name. It’s the conservative dating app — founded by Trump aide John McEntee, funded by right wing venture capitalist Peter Thiel — that was threatened earlier this year. Expected to bow last summer, it instead landed in early fall, complete with a new ad. Alas, if anyone involved in the new app thought they could escape social media mockery, they were wrong.

The spot features a variety of women in talking about what they’re looking for in a man (not a woman, of course). “They just have to be a conservative,” one says, revealing a fairly low bar. Another says she likes “the alpha-male vibe.” On the subject of why they want to date conservatives, one woman says that rightwingers “know how to treat a woman,” while another says they have “better manners.” “I like that they understand their role in the relationship as a man,” yet another says, which seems like a pretty dog-whistle-y statement.

It didn’t take long for people to make parodies of the ad, juxtaposing some of the women’s responses with unflattering images of actual GOP men.

Some people even signed up for accounts, only to be wowed by some of the prompts.

Those prompts received some jokey responses.

The app’s female-centric ad also reminded people that today’s GOP is not exactly pro-women.

Others advised people to definitely not start joke accounts.

There were also plenty of miscellaneous jokes.

The ad had one person wondering why right wingers mock leftists for safe spaces, when that’s what this app (and Truth Social, and Gab, and Fox News, etc.) is.
