AMC Theatres Is Charging Slightly More For ‘The Batman’ As Multiplexes Struggle To Get Back On Top

It’s been nearly two years since the nation’s movie theaters lost their two most valued assets: movies and moviegoers. The pandemic all but emptied the country’s multiplexes, and they still haven’t gotten back in step. A movie about not one but three web-slingers aside, every would-be blockbuster has either dramatically underperformed or outright bombed. The long-delayed The Batman may be another Spider-Man: No Way Home, box office-wise, but just in case it isn’t, one major theater chain seems to be taking some precautions.

As per Entertainment Weekly, AMC Theatres, the nation’s biggest chain, is experimenting with what is called “variable pricing.” That involves charging different prices for different films, depending on the demand. In this case, AMC will force adults (not children) an extra $1.50 to watch Robert Pattinson battle gritty versions of The Penguin and The Riddler.

This is far from unprecedented. As AMC CEO Adam Aron pointed out during an earnings call, the chain has been doing it for years in other countries. “Indeed, in Europe, we charge a premium for the best seats in the house,” he said, “as do just about all other sellers of tickets in other industries — think sports events, concerts, and live theater, for example.”

In fact, some chains have already started charging more for weekend screenings. Doing it for all screenings of what will surely be a ridiculous money-gobbler, even at three hours plus ads and previews, was for them a no-brainer. (Of course, you can avoid paying ever-so-slightly more by being an AMC Stubs member and making The Batman one of your month’s three complimentary movies.)

Does this mean movies — long the least pricey of public entertainment options, providing relatively cheap dates and inexpensive family nights-out lo these last many decades — could be edging ever closer to a more elitist mindset, like sporting events and the finer arts? Maybe, but not quite yet.

A Man Who Took Care Of Young Dolph’s Memorial In Memphis Was Reportedly Shot And Killed

It’s been almost four months since Young Dolph was tragically shot and killed in his hometown of Memphis. In the months that have followed, fans of Dolph honored him in many ways. One of those includes the creation of a memorial at the shooting site, near one of the city’s businesses. The memorial was constructed shortly after Dolph’s and was taken care of by a few citizens in Memphis. One of those individuals was Jeremiah Taylor, who was unfortunately shot and killed according to a recent report.

Memphis’ Fox13 said Taylor was reportedly found dead last week on the city’s Getwell Road. Memphis Police are currently looking for suspects in the shooting. “Jeremiah was a great person,” said friend Frank Gottie, who viewed Taylor as a brother. “He was so creative. He was so on point. He was helpful, he would help anybody.”

“I want people around the world to know we care about Dolph,” Taylor had said during an interview with ABC 24. “… The love he had with people. A lot of people are realizing and now seeing the person that he always was. Taking care of his community, being a philanthropist, and really promoting financial independence. [It’s] a moral that he taught.”

Lauren Boebert Was A Predictable Nuisance During Biden’s State Of The Union, Even Heckling Him As He Talked About His Dead Son Beau

Back in 2009, much ado was made when Joe Wilson, Republican representative from South Carolina, heckled then-president Barack Obama during a joint session of Congress, shouting, “You lie!” during one of his claims. Wilson received bipartisan condemnation. He quickly atoned. Obama accepted it, saying, “He apologized quickly and without equivocation and I’m appreciative of that.”

Jump 13 years and incivility — and a lack of any apology, ever — is the norm in Congress. When President Joe Biden delivered his first State of the Union, on Tuesday night, he was met with not only House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy checking his phone. Biden also received loud interruptions from the expected suspects: Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert, the latter who actually heckled him while he was talking about his dead son Beau — not unlike what Trump did back in 2020.

Boebert and Greene kicked things off right away, defiantly turning their backs as Biden and team entered the House chamber and tooling around on their phones.

Around the halfway mark of Biden’s hour-long address, the two were identified as the lawmakers starting a failed group chant of “Build the wall” from within the chamber.

Boebert repeated that one on Twitter during the speech.

But that was nothing compared to what happened later during Biden’s address. He was talking about soldiers who were killed by cancer. At that point, a voice quickly identified as Boebert’s was heard shouting about “13” soldiers, a reference to the soldiers killed during the evacuation of Afghanistan. As it happened, Biden had been right on the verge of mentioning his son Beau, whose cancer may have been caused during his service in the Iraq War. Boebert was promptly booed.

Boebert later admitted to the heckle, saying that when Biden mentioned “flag-draped coffins,” she “couldn’t stay silent.”

But to everyone else, it was even more disrespectful than she intended it to be.

Both Boebert and Greene have been in rare form lately. Boebert recently said America should be “liberated” like Ukraine, prompting furrowed brows. Greene, meanwhile, actually spoke at a white nationalist rally, prompting little pushback from House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. They are indeed quite the pair.

Joe Wilson, meanwhile, is still in Congress. It’s unclear whether or not he attended Biden’s first State of the Union, but if he did he kept quiet.

John Bolton Shocked A Newsmax Host By Claiming Trump ‘Barely Knew Where Ukraine Was’

Every now and then American progressives and John Bolton find themselves in agreement. After all, they have one thing in common: Neither thinks Donald Trump was a terribly good president. Bolton should know: He worked for him. From 2018 to 2019, he was the former president’s National Security Advisor, and the two did not end on amicable terms. One book claims Trump wished Bolton, who’d previously worked for Reagan and both Bushes, would catch COVID and die.

Bolton has long trashed Trump right back, and he’s still at it. On Tuesday, Bolton — a noted hawk who’s repeatedly advised presidents to take aggressive stances — went on Newsmax, the virulently pro-Trump news network. And Bolton absolutely couldn’t stomach the host making dubious claims about the ex-president’s “pretty tough” stance on Russia. Among those was that Trump sanctioned Nord Stream 2, which runs from Russia to Germany.

Not so, said Bolton, who informed Newsmax host Rob Schmitt that “We didn’t sanction Nord Stream 2.” He added, “We should have … We should have brought the project to an end.”

Of the sanctions the Trump administration did impose on Russia, Bolton said that “in almost every case, the sanctions were imposed with Trump complaining about it and saying we were being too hard.”

Bolton then described Trump’s ignorance of the world stage. “The fact is that he barely knew where Ukraine was,” Bolton said. “He once asked John Kelly, his second chief of staff, if Finland were a part of Russia. It’s just not accurate to say that Trump’s behavior somehow deterred the Russians.”

He also said Trump “did not” handle Russia better than his successor, Joe Biden.

“I don’t think he understood what he was doing,” Bolton said. “This is not really a policy argument. This is about Trump’s lack of any significant historical knowledge, his lack of strategic thinking, and frankly his lack of thinking about pretty much anything that didn’t have to do with Donald Trump.”

Bolton also asserted that Trump only cared about Ukraine in 2019 because “he wanted that DNC server” and that “he wanted to apply pressure for his own political purposes.” He concluded that “Trump was not fit to be president. He was not competent to be president.”

Schmitt shot back, saying, “You worked for him, though.” That wasn’t quite the own he perhaps thought it was, Bolton informing him that his main reason for taking the job was “to help protect American national security.”

Since Russian president Vladimir Putin ordered forces to invade Ukraine, Trump and his cheerleaders have repeatedly claimed none of this would have happened were Trump still in the White House. Then again, Trump, like Tucker Carlson, has also gushed about Putin’s actions, calling them “savvy” and “genius.” Others have argued otherwise, including those, like Bolton, who know him all too well.

You Will Cringe At The Worst Sequence In ‘Wheel Of Fortune’ History

Before we begin, go and do something that brings you joy. Maybe crack open something to drink, or pet your dog, or listen to a song you really enjoy. I am advising you to do this because there is a chance the following video from Wheel of Fortune is going to ruin your night.

Alright, so, Tuesday night’s episode of the long-running television show, a puzzle with the very vague category “PHRASE” popped up. The contestants got far enough down the road that we found ourselves, following Laura’s decision to buy an “O,” in the situation depicted in the picture at the top of this post. Laura tried to solve, guessing “Another feather in your cap.” A good guess! But Pat Sajak let her know that was not correct, and as such, things moved on to Christopher.

Not much of note happened there, as Christopher wanted a “G” but didn’t get one. Totally fine, let’s move to Thomas … ah heck, bankrupt, ok! Back to Laura, who once again tried to solve, and went with “Another feather in your lap.” Nope, not it, Christopher! You’re up pal. Let’s get a spin and $900 and a guess, this time a “D.” Nope! Thomas, back to you. Oh no! A lose a turn! Unfortunate.

It is at this point where I will drop in the video. Sorry.

You can’t really fault Laura for trying to get that little bit of extra cash — it’s the whole objective of the show! — and “P” is a good letter to guess. But then hitting everyone with “MAP” for the last word was just gutting … AND THEN CHRISTOPHER WENT BANKRUPT.

Congratulations to Thomas for, mercifully, spinning and not having something catastrophic happen. He guessed “C” and then solved the puzzle. It is quite the feather in his hat/lap/map/cap. We’ve seen some particularly bad moments on Wheel in the past, and this is as hard to swallow as any.

Kanye West Opens Up About Virgil Abloh’s Death And Reuniting With Drake

The end of 2021 was filled with highs and lows for Kanye West. At the end of November, he experienced the loss of Virgil Abloh, a beloved fashion designer and DJ who passed away after a two-year battle with cancer. Kanye and Virgil were close friends and the two collaborated numerous times over the years. A short time later, Kanye and Drake held their Larry Hoover Benefit Concert, which came after the two settled their differences after being on bad terms for three years. During a celebrity-filled Black Future Month brunch that was held last month, Kanye reflected on Virgil’s death and reconnecting with Drake.

“Virgil was the third person in a position of power at LVMH to die of cancer,” Kanye said. “Without his gang, without his support system, without his Dame Dash.” Kanye also expressed his frustration with seeming to have been boxed out of a collaboration with Virgil. He also claimed he was not allowed to speak at the late designer’s funeral back in December. Later, Kanye thanked Larry Hoover for helping to patch things up between him and Drake.

“Larry Hoover brought me and Drake together,” he said. “That man created peace. He called that from the prison. Larry Hoover called that from the prison, and everybody was happy.” He added, “When people see me and Drake pull up to a basketball game with both of our sons, with my oldest and his son, that’s gonna save people’s lives in the hood. They’re gonna see that.”

Jaylen Brown Left Celtics-Hawks After Suffering An Ankle Injury

The Boston Celtics are in the midst of a charge up the Eastern Conference standings, as the team has won 13 of their last 16 and moved into the 6-seed, meaning they’re just above the cut-off for an automatic playoff berth without having to go through the play-in tournament. One of the major reasons why Boston finds itself in this spot is the play of Jaylen Brown, as their young wing has contributed on both ends of the court throughout his sixth year in the league.

Unfortunately for the Celtics, an injury to Brown might keep him on the sideline for a spell. Early on in the team’s game against the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night, Brown attempted to drive into the lane while pushing the ball up the floor in transition when his right leg appeared to give out. It’s unclear if he hit a wet spot or if he just slipped, but Brown went down hard and found himself in considerable pain.

The good news, relatively speaking, is that Brown was able to get up and make his way into the locker room under his own power. Ultimately, the team determined that Brown suffered a right ankle injury and would not return, per TNT’s Stephanie Ready.

Moms are sharing what real parenting looks like and everyone can relate to the unfiltered photos

There is a big difference between what parenthood looks like in real life versus how it appears on social media, especially Instagram. We’ve seen this fake version of parenting so many times that it has become a cliché.

Mom and her children are somewhere beautiful on vacation or in a field with wildflowers in full bloom. Everyone is dressed in matching white linen outfits that are somehow perfectly clean. Mom is wearing a big floppy hat, large sunglasses and looks well-rested.

This may be somebody’s version of fantasy but it sure isn’t real life.

The problem is that when people look at these images they consciously or subconsciously compare themselves to these families and wonder why they seem to be coming up short. In reality, most parents of young children are tired, could use a long shower and are in a living room that looks like a clown moved in.

There are bright-colored bowls and bottles strewn about. Random Legos are embedded in the carpet and a naked dolly with frizzy hair is stashed away in a corner. Being the parent of young kids is all about survival, and appearances are the last thing most have the time or energy to worry about.

Let’s not even get started on the ecological disaster that is the bathroom.

A Twitter user named Amanda injected some much-needed reality into social media on Saturday when she asked a simple question to her followers. “Can we get a realistic mom/parenting photo thread going? No aesthetic filters, no staging – what does the room you’re in look like RIGHT NOW?”

She received an outpouring of posts that were photos of the mess, clutter and chaos that accompanies being the parent of a small child. Trashed bathrooms, bedrooms with boxes stacked sky-high, tired parents, toddlers with saggy diapers and lots of toys strewn all over the place.

And the laundry. No one ever has the time to get all the laundry done.

The photos would give most neat freaks apoplexy but they did a great job at showing how most people with young kids actually live. Sure they may clean up the house when they’re having company or act as they have it together on social media, but this is how day-to-day life looks.

It’s great that so many parents were totally fine sharing photos of their mess.

But there’s one thing that is unmistakable about these photos, they’re filled with love.

Here are some of the most real photos that Amanda received after asking what people’s lives look like “RIGHT NOW.” If you have a small child and your house is a disaster, these photos should make you feel less alone.

After scrolling through those photos, don’t you feel a bit better about yourself? Just know that doing your best doesn’t look like a family decked out in matching linen staring at sunset on Waikiki Beach. Nope. It looks like a stack of laundry on a La-Z-Boy chair, a carpet that’s littered with Legos and love, lots and lots of love.

‘Tinder Swindler’ Simon Leviev Has Moved Into Charging Nightclubs $20k For His Presence

Thanks to the recent Netflix doc The Tinder Swindler, Simon Leviev is a household name — and it’s not even his real name. The one born Shimon Yehuda Hayut is a longtime conman who was first nabbed in 2011 after cashing checks for a family for whom he was babysitting. His most famous exploits, however, involve fleecing women out of millions of dollars over Tinder. He’s back on the streets, though, and he’s found new ways to make dough.

As per TMZ, Leviev — who was only recently banned from dating apps due to the notoriety he accrued thanks to the aforementioned doc — has been offering his services to nightclubs for a hefty fee. What are his services, exactly? Well, he’s famous — or infamous, anyway. And clubs in Philadelphia, Boston, Germany, and Mexico are all after him to put in appearances.

Leviev doesn’t come cheap, however. He’s currently charging $20,000 an appearance. That fee does not include bottle service, which is on his list of demands. That item is on the cheaper side of the list; he’s also demanding, as per TMZ, “a private jet, suite at a 5-star hotel, black SUV car service and 2 full-time security guards. In other words, a man who’s been jailed for flimflam is coaxing nightclubs into forking over a fortune, all because he’s a criminal of note.

For now, however, Leviev can always scoop up some extra scratch via his Cameo account. Oh, and of course, he’s hocking NTFs.

The Tinder Swindler now streams on Netflix.
