This wholesome rap song is the ultimate millennial dad anthem

Parenting has evolved, and perhaps we see that most clearly in the way that fatherhood has specifically adapted.

The once “traditional” image of the rigidly stoic father who, when not completely absent, acted as the family disciplinarian, is becoming more and more the relic of a bygone era. And in its place are dads who willingly and happily take equal part in childcare, prioritize emotional connection and essentially are the involved male figure they might have wished for as kids.

And what’s really beautiful about this is not only that future generations have a healthy foundation from which to grow, but that adult men give their own inner child a bit of healing, too. For that, modern dads really do deserve their kudos.

And what better way to do that than through a rap created by a millennial dad himself?

For Father’s Day, actor, rapper and proud girl dad Bret Green (aka “Dad Got Bars” on Instagram) released a delightfully fun but deceptively insightful song titled “Millennial Dad,” commending the next generation of dads who are changing what it means to be a father.

Sharing what inspired the tune, Green told Upworthy, “I realized that our generation was built different when it comes to fatherhood. I had so many friends who were amazing fathers and doing things that our fathers just did not do.”

Green’s lyrics touch on everything from changing diapers to disciplining without physical violence to a newfound enthusiasm for exfoliating, and applauds both the boy dads for “just trying to make a man out of a little boy” and all the girl dads for “showing baby girl what boys to avoid.”

Watch below:

Of course there’s still progress to be made, but it’s no wonder why millennials are being hailed “the best generation of dads.” By and large they’re putting in the work on multiple levels. And that’s cause for celebration, in the form of a rap song or otherwise.

And if you think that’s the only wholesome millennial parent content that Green has to offer in the form of rap songs, guess again. His account is chock full of gems, including an oh-so relatable lament on never ending laundry.

In fact, Green shared with Upworthy that even though he’s technically been rapping since he was 19 years old, inspiration hadn’t really struck until he became a father. Now, the “songs write themselves.” Plus, it’s an opportunity to create “a special memory” with his daughter, whose voice is often featured.

Check out the full version of “Millennial Dad” on Spotify, and give Green a follow on Instagram.

9-year-old wows ‘America’s Got Talent’ audience with powerful original song

Watching musically gifted children never gets old. Whether you credit it to being born under a lucky star, or a simple case of good genetics, it does at least feel like something of a miracle.

That was certainly the feeling evoked when shy 9-year-old Journeyy Belton stepped onto the stage for “America’s Got Talent” on July 23, 2024, and blew audiences away with his powerful original song “Paradise.”

Real estate broker breaks down why middle class millennials and Gen Z can’t afford housing

There’s a housing crisis in America. It’s not that there aren’t houses available. Thousands of houses and apartments sit empty across the country, but the price for housing has reached levels that seem unsustainable for the middle class and those classified as working poor. Some might argue that middle class is now the working poor, though their yearly salary says they should be able to fair just fine.

Unfortunately, what used to be considered a decent salary for a middle class family to live comfortably is now barely enough to scrape by given the cost of housing. But some people from the boomer generation still struggle to understand why millennials and Gen Z can’t afford housing.

Freddie Smith, a real estate broker, took to social media to explain why younger generations are struggling to purchase a home when their parents didn’t. The real estate finance lesson was prompted when a baby boomer pointed out, “Don’t forget we had 13% interest rates in the 80s.”

A 13% interest rate seems like insanity upon first glance, but after Smith breaks it down, it doesn’t look so bad. “I wish we had 13% interest rates if we had your home prices,” the broker says before breaking things down.

Smith quickly starts speaking in numbers, revealing that in 1980 even with their yearly salary being only $22K with the 13% interest rate, their monthly payment only equaled to 26% of their monthly income. If millennials had the same circumstances, their median yearly salary would be $80k, their median price of a home $170K, and with a 13% interest rate the monthly payment would be $1,790–only 26% of their monthly income.

But that’s not the reality that Millennials and Gen Z live in. While the median salary is $80k, the median price of a home is $419K, and while the interest rate in 2024 is 7%, with the housing price so high it would make the monthly payment 42% of their monthly income.

Smith wraps up the video saying, “And here’s the kicker. Someone making $80K in most cases can’t even qualify for this.”

@fmsmith319 1980 vs 2024 home prices and interest rates
♬ original sound – Freddie Smith

That certainly put things in perspective for people. The video was flooded with comments from exhausted and frustrated millennials.

“Oh and the wives got to stay home and care for the kids now we pay another $1600 a month for daycare for us both to work,” one person laments.

“Imagine if we had 140K homes with 13% rates. The gaslighting from them is WILD. I’d take 14% rates if the average home was only 140K,” another says.

“It’s fine.. we just have to stop getting our fancy coffees and we can afford it,” someone writes.

“We’re facing a 5K payment with 10% down on the average home. Same house cost 3K a month in rent. So we’re renting indefinitely at the moment,” a commenter shares.

But this isn’t just an issue in America. There were people outside of the U.S. sharing their astronomical cost of an average family home.

“Same here in Oslo, Norway. By dad bought his house for $22,500 in 1972. He’s selling it now for $1.75 million. And of course he says just this. ‘You just have to spend less and work more.’ Lol,” someone shares.

“It’s worse in Australia. Average salary $80k average house price $1m,” another writes.

While Smith doesn’t offer a solution, his breakdown may help older generations understand why their children and grandchildren aren’t buying homes. One can only hope housing prices go down or wages significantly increase so the middle class can afford a little more than their basic needs on top of being able to buy a home.

Destroy Lonely Is Trapped In The Middle Of Nowhere In His Captivating ‘Luv 4 Ya’ Video

Destroy Lonely teased “Luv 4 Ya” at Coachella 2024 and officially released the single last month. On Wednesday, July 24, Destroy Lonely boosted the song’s shelf life by releasing a 91 Rules-directed video.

Destroy Lonely solemnly begins to dig a hole while smoking a cigarette. The video’s through line is Destroy Lonely fittingly alone in the desert, seeking “an exit” from an alternate reality by “digging through the surreal void.” But that is far from the most visually stimulating thing the video has to offer across nearly four minutes. At one point, he’s chillin’ while a woman in a swimsuit grins and executes impressively precise bicep curls. The next moment, he’s hanging upside-down like a bat in the dark. There are dirt bikes, snakes, an ever-growing hole in the ground, and older men getting into a fist fight.

“She tryna heat my wrist,” the Atlanta native and Opium artist sing-raps in the chorus. “She tryna suck my d*ck / I went to sleep dead broke / I woke up too rich.”

“Luv 4 Ya” serves as Destroy Lonely’s first single from his forthcoming sophomore album expected to release before the summer’s end. If Looks Could Kill, Destroy Lonely’s debut LP, released in May 2023 and charted in the top 20 of the Billboard 200.

The Weeknd Is Definitely Up To Something, As He Shared More Cryptic Clues About An Apparent New Album

The Weeknd Performs At Wembley Stadium
Getty Image

Last August, The Weeknd hinted to W Magazine that he would one day “close The Weeknd chapter.” That day is not today — or seemingly any day in the foreseeable future because he appears to be at the precipice of unfurling a lengthy era.

On Wednesday, July 24, The Weeknd posted a screenshot of his own X (formerly Twitter) post from the past, reading, “some chapters are smaller than others. not this next one though…” The global sensation born Abel Tesfaye reposted that to his Instagram Story, where he also posted a cryptic screenshot of the same animated character he’s been teasing — this one captioned, “Don’t stare too long.”

The broad (and probably correct) assumption is that The Weeknd is teasing the third album in the After Hours/Dawn FM trilogy. In January 2022, The Weeknd confirmed that he was in the midst of crafting a trilogy, and last week, he reposted a fan’s post saying this trilogy is “already better” than The Weeknd’s 2011 trilogy of House Of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes Of Silence.

The cryptic teasing technically began earlier this month when The Weeknd posted a close-up of a child’s eyes. But it became undeniable when he announced a one-off concert in São Paulo, Brazil on September 7 followed by a video showing After Hours Weeknd and Dawn FM Weeknd before we’re introduced to a new character: An upset young boy, presumably young Abel, crouched and surrounded by spooky characters. “There are three chapters to this tale,” the screen reads.

On Tuesday, July 23, The Weeknd posted another teaser video with our new protagonist, captioned, “When you gaze long enough into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you…”

Flau’jae Joins Forces With BIA And Lakeyah On Culture Jam’s ‘Can’t Get Enough’

Baton Rouge, Louisiana has become one of the hotbeds for the explosion of popularity in women’s basketball, as the LSU Tigers became a national powerhouse, led by stars Angel Reese and Flau’jae Johnson. Part of what made that LSU squad stand out wasn’t just their dominance on the floor, but the larger than life personalities of their top stars, who have ascended to superstardom on and off the court.

Reese has taken her talents to the WNBA, where she’s taken the league by storm as a rookie, setting a WNBA record for consecutive double-doubles and continuing her on-court rivalry with former Iowa and current Indiana Fever star rookie Caitlin Clark at the pro level. Off the court, Reese has dipped a toe into the worlds of music and fashion, and she’s become hip-hop’s favorite WNBA rookie.

Flau’jae, meanwhile, will be returning to LSU this fall but has also seen her star continue to grow this summer, as she dropped her debut rap album, Best of Both Worlds, in late June — with some features from star artists like Lil Wayne. She performed at the ESPYs and was all over WNBA All-Star Weekend in Phoenix, which included dropping a new track “Can’t Get Enough” with Culture Jam alongside BIA and Lakeyah. The music video for the song released on Wednesday, showing the artists making a road trip from L.A. to Phoenix for WNBA All-Star, and the song will be the official track for the WNBA on ESPN.

“Being part of ‘Can’t Get Enough’ with BIA and Lakeyah has been amazing,” Johnson said in a release. “This track is all about celebrating the strength and power of women in sports and music. It’s an honor to work with Culture Jam, the WNBA, and ESPN to bring this anthem to life. We’re bringing the energy, the passion, and the love for the game.”

TNT Sports Will ‘Take Appropriate Action’ After The NBA Said It Did Not Match Amazon’s Media Rights Offer

David Zaslav
Getty Image

It’s official: The 2024-25 NBA season will be the last on TNT for at least the next 11 years. The league announced its new media rights deal on Wednesday afternoon, but right before that press release came out, the NBA told the world that Warner Bros. Discovery failed to match Amazon’s offer in its eyes — Amazon, along with Disney and NBCUniversal, is one of the three broadcast partners.

Unsurprisingly, this did not go over especially with the fine folks over at TNT, which has been a broadcast partner with the NBA since 1989 and is the home of the legendary postgame show Inside the NBA. And in a statement release on Wednesday, TNT Sports — a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery — promised that it will “take appropriate action” as the league is “rejecting the many fans who continue to show their unwavering support for our best-in-class coverage.”

“We have matched the Amazon offer, as we have a contractual right to do, and do not believe the NBA can reject it. In doing so, they are rejecting the many fans who continue to show their unwavering support for our best-in-class coverage, delivered through the full combined reach of WBD’s video-first distribution platforms — including TNT, home to our four-decade partnership with the league, and Max, our leading streaming service. We think they have grossly misinterpreted our contractual rights with respect to the 2025-26 season and beyond, and we will take appropriate action. We look forward, however, to another great season of the NBA on TNT and Max including our iconic Inside the NBA.”

Reports indicated that Warner Bros. Discovery had an exclusive negotiating window with the league as an existing broadcast partner, but that came and went without a deal being struck. There was, however, reason to believe that this would not be the end of the partnership, as they reportedly had the ability to match any offer that the league received. And last week, it was announced that Warner Bros. Discovery would attempt to match the offer put forth by Amazon.

However, all indications were that the league would not agree with Warner Bros. Discovery on this, and make the argument that Amazon’s offer went beyond a financial commitment. This was confirmed in the league’s announcement that they “did not match the terms of Amazon Prime Video’s offer.”

“Our new arrangement with Amazon supports this goal by complementing the broadcast, cable and streaming packages that are already part of our new Disney and NBCUniversal arrangements,” the NBA said in its statement. “All three partners have also committed substantial resources to promote the league and enhance the fan experience.”

It seems telling that the statement TNT Sports put out stressed that it has a streaming service in Max, although it’s been estimated that Amazon Prime has twice as many subscribers. We’ll now have to wait and see if this goes to court, or if the two sides can work out some sort of financial agreement here.

Why Resort World’s ‘Hotel EDC’ Is The Ultimate Party-Lover’s Paradise For EDC Las Vegas

HOTEL EDC, EDC
MIKALA LUGEN/MERLE COOPER/UPROXX

It’s been four months since EDC Las Vegas celebrated being the most dynamic, dramatic electronic music festival on Earth. While it’s a feat in itself to host 170,000 people per day – surpassing half a million people throughout the weekend – it’s even more of a feat to ensure the city of Las Vegas could properly accommodate all of those extra people, especially during separate highly anticipated events, like Dead & Co’s debut at Sphere that just so happened to occur on the same weekend.

While the countdown to EDC spans 10 months, it’s never too early to start planning your accommodations for one of the biggest weekends in the North American festival scene. Obviously, Las Vegas is chock full of both budget friendly and luxury options, including The Venetian, Caesar’s Palace, MGM Grand, among dozens of others. But if you’re looking for the ultimate Headliners paradise to eat, sleep, rave, and repeat at, look no further than Hotel EDC.

EDC
MIKALA LUGEN

Located within Resorts World Las Vegas on the Las Vegas strip, the Hilton side of the massive complex transforms into an immersive experience for EDC attendees, full of exclusive DJ sets, pool parties, art installations, and more. After a sold-out second year, Insomniac and Vibee will bring Hotel EDC back for its third year alongside EDC Las Vegas 2025, taking place May 16-18.

So what makes Hotel EDC stand out among the rest of the dozens of hotels available during EDC week? I had the opportunity to experience Hotel EDC during this year’s festival, and it totally elevated my whole EDC experience in every single way.

Festival Branding & Photo Opps

EDC
MIKALA LUGEN

As soon as you pull up to Hotel EDC, you’re greeted with a custom and reimagined Hotel EDC lobby at the Hilton at Resorts World Las Vegas. You’re immediately transported into the magical world of EDC, with the lobby sparkling with crystal chandeliers that glimmer on the various Hotel EDC art installations, signage, and photo opps throughout the space. It’s essentially a nonstop multisensory experience brought to life through large-scale art installations and hourly light shows featured on The Globe, a huge art installation mirroring the outside of Sphere, which you can also peep from your hotel room.

Everywhere you wander throughout Hotel EDC, you will feel like you’re living in an EDC dreamland.

While Hotel EDC sits in the Hilton side of Resorts World, you’ll find additional Hotel EDC branding throughout its integrated corridors of Conrad, Crockfords, the casino. While staying at other hotels during EDC week may lead to some questionable looks from non-assuming, Las Vegas patrons, Hotel EDC makes it known that the resort is full of the city’s best festival partiers, so you can show off your festival fits comfortably.

Hotel EDC Rooms

EDC
MIKALA LUGEN

No one wants to stay in a basic hotel room during the best weekend of the year. With the option to choose between one king-sized bed or two queen beds for up to four people per room, all of Hilton’s 1,774 rooms are completely done up for Headliners.

Make sure to pack some extra room in your suitcase to take home all of the Hotel EDC goodies, even down to the bedding. Pillowcases, throw blankets, robes, slippers, glass cups, travel bag tags, and an Insomniac plushie were just some of the amazing free merch that are included in your stay, making for a comfy cozy hotel room to come back to after raving all night at EDC.

Believe me, nothing is better than cuddling into bed with your Insomniac plushie at 7 am after raving for 12 hours straight.

Amenities:

  • Dedicated EDC TV channel with DJ sets and exclusive content
  • In-room EDC decor, including blankets, lights and art
  • Exclusive gift bags with limited edition merch for each guest
  • Dedicated Vibee concierge on site
  • 117,000 square-foot casino
  • Multiple pools
  • Spa & wellness center

Private Car Service

EDC
MIKALA LUGEN

The best thing about staying at Hotel EDC was the opportunity to secure its partnered private car service. Y’all, when I say this was life-changing, it truly was. The traffic driving to and from EDC is notorious for being two or three hours long. While Hotel EDC is just a mere 20 minutes or so from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the hundreds of thousands of Headliners trying to get to the festival at the same time can cause a gridlock on the highway.

The private car service was well worth any extra money paid. By working with local authorities, the luxury SUVs and limos supplied by the Hotel EDC private car service could drive through the Nellis Air Force Base, cutting the time down to just 45 minutes.

While there are shuttles and even helicopters available – both requiring you to travel to a different pickup location than Hotel EDC – the private car service was the easiest option. I walked out the front doors of Hotel EDC and right up to the private car service line, where I showed my reservation QR code and was issued into a private car. I traveled alone every day, so the price is the same whether it’s just one person or up to six total passengers. I never waited for a car, and was able to control the temperature and music. The drop-off is even better, where you’re issued into an exclusive gate at EDC where there are virtually no lines to get in, making it even more convenient.

Ayu Dayclub & Zouk Nightclub

EDC
MIKALA LUGEN

Just because you’re at the hotel doesn’t mean the party has to end. After sleeping in and getting a much-needed late breakfast at Junior’s, I happily spent one of my afternoons at Ayu Dayclub. All Hotel EDC guests receive expedited entry to all-day parties at Ayu Dayclub, which run from 11 am – 6 pm. You can also take advantage of having exclusive access to the Empire Lounge, located right behind the DJ booth.

Las Vegas is hot in May, so securing a cabana was crucial here. I had the perfect vantage point of watching DJ Snake under the comfort of the shade while still being a part of the party. If you end up slacking on a cabana, there are multiple pools to escape the heat in while dancing to the music. Every day of your stay at Hotel EDC there’s a new lineup, so there’s never a shortage of music.

Then there’s Zouk Nightclub. Located on the inside walls of Ayu Dayclub, Zouk Nightclub has ultra late-night (or early-morning) hours. I didn’t make it here since all I wanted was my bed when I returned from the festival each morning, but Hotel EDC guests get free entry starting at 4am. If you don’t want the party to stop, it doesn’t have to.

Special Offerings

EDC
MIKALA LUGEN

EDC is a special experience. Hotel EDC makes it even more so. Aside from the earlier mentioned photo opps, EDC branding, pop-up DJ sets, and all-around luxury accommodations, you’ll find additional special offerings that truly make Hotel EDC one-of-a-kind.

If you can get yourself out of bed at a decent hour, taking advantage of the poolside wellness hub is the move. From complimentary yoga classes, meditation sessions, and hammock chairs, your body will thank you for replenishing it in the late morning to prepare for 12 hours of walking on pavement for the third day in a row.

Additionally, Hotel EDC hosted its own “Headliner Headquarters.” This past year, it was located in RedTail – right next to FUHU and Ayu Dayclub – offering games, glam stations, food and drink specials, and all-day DJ sets by emerging electronic music artists from Insomniac’s “Discovery Project.”

Basically, everywhere you go you’ll find ways to naturally connect with Headliners through exclusive Hotel EDC offerings.

Casino

A trip to Las Vegas wouldn’t be complete without at least stepping foot in a casino. Whether or not gambling is your thing, Hotel EDC connects as a triad of hotels – Conrad and Crockfords – all leading to the center casino. You’ll find yourself within over 117,000 square feet of gaming, including table games, traditional slots, and a dedicated poker room. If you feel like you want to game with more privacy, you can also take the elevator up to the 66th floor to gamble in the private casino in Allē Lounge. Taking photos in your EDC outfits surrounded by the flashling slot machines isn’t a bad look either.

Dozens of Restaurants

EDC
MIKALA LUGEN

There’s a key, leading component of the famed line, “Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat.” When you’re not dancing the night away to some of the world’s best electronic music performances at EDC, fueling your body before and after the festival is crucial. Hotel EDC offers a great array of restaurants, many of which stay open late-night or even 24-hours. I found the hotel to offer a great variety of fine dining, budget-friendly, and quick “fast food” options to satisfy your tastebuds with at convenient locations. You can also call-in orders and pick them up, or get them delivered to your room.

Your Hotel EDC reservation also includes a $30 food and beverage credit per day to use at most of Resorts World restaurants and bars. Some of my favorites included:

  • Seared scallops and king crab truffle fried rice at FUHU
  • King crab spring rolls and kurobuta pork belly at Kusa Nori
  • Vegan fusilli pesto pasta and savory truffle potatoes at Crossroads
  • Turkey & pastrami sandwich and OREO Cookies & Cream Cheesecake at Junior’s

Plus, you can’t beat snagging a coffee from one of the two Starbucks locations on-site to bring with you to the festival.

You can sign up to receive information about Hotel EDC for 2025 bookings here. Reservations will include a three-night stay at the Hilton at Resorts World Las Vegas along with an option to purchase three-day EDC GA+ or VIP experience passes.

‘Power Book IV: Force’ Season 3: Everything To Know About The End Of Tommy Egan’s Run In Chicago

'Power Book IV: Force' 204 w/ Tommy & Diamond
STARZ

The Power Universe is currently on break for the summer as the current season of Power Book II: Ghost is set to continue with the second half of season four in September. It’s at this point that the Power Universe will undergo some big changes. Power Book II: Ghost will conclude after this season, and it’s not the only show that failed to get a renewal from STARZ. Power Book IV: Force will also end after it’s upcoming third season. Joseph Sikora and showrunner and executive producer Gary Lennon shared the news with fans in messages shared on Instagram and Deadline, respectively.

Power Book IV: Force season two ended with a dramatic cliffhanger, and what season three has in store for us remains to be seen. As we wait, let’s do go through some of the things we know and can expect for the upcoming season.

Is There An Official Premiere Date?

At this moment, a premiere date for Power Book IV: Force season 3 has not been shared yet. Fans can expect the new season to come out at the end of 2024 or spring 2025. The Power Universe is currently on a summer break, with the second half of Power Book II: Ghost set to resume on September 6 and continue through October 4. After that, fans can expect the premiere of either Power Book IV: Force season 3 or Power Book III: Raising Kanan season 4. A more specific premiere date will be revealed at a later time.

Cast

There will be a lot of names absent from the cast list for Power Book IV: Force season 3 compared to last season after a number of characters were killed off in season two. They include Tommy Flanagan’s Walter Flynn, Cayen Martin’s Leon, Guy Van Swearingen’s Uncle Paulie, and Dominic DeVore’s Brendan Doyle. The status of Lili Simmons’ character Claudia “Claud” Flynn is still up in the air after she was stabbed in prison in the season two finale.

With that being said, here’s who you can expect in the main cast for season three:

  • Joseph Sikora as Tommy Egan
  • Isaac Keys as David “Diamond” Sampson
  • Lili Simmons as Claudia “Claud” Flynn (TBD)
  • Shane Harper as Victor “Vic” Flynn
  • Kris D. Lofton as Jenard Sampson
  • Anthony Fleming as JP Gibbs
  • Lucien Cambric as Darnell “D-Mac” McDowell

Here are the list of actors expected to return for supporting roles in season three:

  • Konstantin Lavysh as Rodovan Mirkovic
  • Ahmad Nicholas Ferguson as Marshall Cranon
  • Patricia Kalember as Kate Egan

Plot

An official synopsis for season three has not been revealed yet but the cliffhanger in the season two finale proved that there’s plenty of drama to expect in season three. First off, it’s still unknown if Claudia died as a result of her prison stabbing. Regardless of what happens, you can expect a drama storyline to form from it.

Secondly, season three will let us know what happened to Mireya. Her older brother Miguel found out about her relationship with Tommy, and in retaliation for Tommy gaining access to half of his Chicago territory, Miguel promised that Tommy will “never” see Mireya again. Knowing Tommy, we know he won’t give up that easy.

In a video message to fans on Instagram, Joseph Sikora, who plays Tommy Egan, teased what fans can expect in season three. “When Gary Lennon and the other writers and I were mapping out our third season, we saw that we were telling a complete story,” he said. But don’t worry, Tommy’s journey is far from over with. We’re just getting warmed up, and I can’t wait to show you what we have planned next. Showrunner and executive producer Gary Lennon also shared his thoughts in a statement to Deadline, adding, “Season 3 will question everything we thought we knew of Tommy’s world and I promise you it will not disappoint!”

Is There A Season Three Trailer?

No, STARZ has yet to release an official trailer or teaser for Power Book IV: Force season three. Fans expect a preview for the new season to arrive in the coming months.

Is ‘Roundball Rock’ Coming Back As Part Of NBC’s NBA Media Rights Deal?

nba-nbc-top
NBC Sports

NBC is getting back into the NBA broadcasting game. A former broadcast partner that saw its partnership with the league come to an end back in 2002, NBCUniversal is part of the trio of groups — along with Disney and Amazon — that are going to be part of the NBA’s $76 billion media rights deal that will go into effect in 2025-26 and run for 11 years — while also picking up WNBA rights as part of the package as well.

There are plenty of reasons to be excited about this, like the fact that NBC has experience with major sports properties (NFL, college football, the Premier League) and just generally knows what it is doing when it enters that world. For basketball fans, one thing really sticks out: the possibility that “Roundball Rock” comes back. The iconic anthem for the NBA on NBC, “Roundball Rock” was recorded by John Tesh and is arguably the most recognizable sports theme song of all time.

It’s been adopted by Fox for its college basketball broadcast, and even was the subject of a legendary Saturday Night Live sketch. Now that NBC is getting back into the NBA broadcasting world, the question of whether or not we’ll hear it again is one that plenty of fans want answered. And fortunately, Tesh has told Dan Le Batard that there have been some conversations about this already, in part because of the upcoming Olympic Games.

“They have, actually, yeah,” Tesh said when asked if NBC has reached out about reviving the song. “Nothing firm, but they said, ‘Hey, can you stay frosty on this?’ Like a Navy SEALs thing … We’re actually talking right now about licensing it to them for the Olympics in Paris. So, we’re actually going in at the end of June, we’re heading to Nashville and we’ve got a full orchestra on hold, we’re gonna re-record it. The recording, I think it still sounds great, but I wanted to make a few changes — maybe open up the middle, maybe we’ll send it to you guys, you can turn it into an EDM track.”

And this tease by Tesh got turned into reality after the league announced its new media rights deal. First, NBC tweeted out confirmation with a video that prominently featured the song.

And in its release about the news, NBC told fans that “Roundball Rock” will, indeed, be the theme music. For ’90s NBA fans, it’s hard for there to be better news.
