The NBA Could Potentially Play Games At Disney World If The Season Resumes

It’s been six weeks since the NBA (and most other professional sports leagues) officially went on hiatus amid the COVID-19 outbreak, and despite some states now taking measures to reopen their economies and relax their social distancing protocols, the path to resuming the current season remains as murky as ever.

Commissioner Adam Silver has reiterated that the league will not return until the safety of the players, media, league personnel, and fans can be reasonably assured, which presents all sorts of logistical conundrums and no easy solutions. Plenty of ideas have been floated — some more feasible than others — and it’s clear that it’s going to require some creative problem-solving from everyone involved.

One possibility that has gained some traction is the idea of playing games in a single location that would reduce the amount of travel normally required. On Wednesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic tweeted that the league is considering the Disney World Resort in Orlando as one such location.

Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press went on to say that Disney President Bog Iger pitched the idea to league officials this week.

Las Vegas has also been mentioned as a possible location. The key in this scenario would be finding a way to quarantine players and other team personnel in a single location in order to reduce the risk as much as possible. It would also require the adequate facilities in which to play the actual games — which the Wide World of Sports would have — as well as the space to house such a large contingent. Regardless, any such scenario is likely still relatively far down the road.

Jaylen Brown Hasn’t Forgotten His High School Teacher’s Prediction That He’d Land In Jail

Full disclosure, I’ve done my fair share of time in detention hall (and Saturday school, in-school suspension, regular suspension, etc. but that’s neither here nor there). The point is that high school boys can be a handful, and looking back on it, I have a great deal more empathy for the poor, overworked, and underappreciated educators who have to put up with so much nonsense.

But that’s still no excuse for casting these types of aspersions on what was clearly a talented young man with a bright future ahead. Back in 2014 when he was a high school student in Georgia, Jaylen Brown tweeted about how one of his teachers predicted that he’d end up in jail in the next five years.

The tweet originally resurfaced last year after Brown and the Celtics were in the midst of a big playoff run, and though he declined to go into specifics about what happened at the time, Brown said that he’s since moved on from the incident and no longer harbors any ill will toward the teacher in question.

But that didn’t stop him from commemorating the event once again, as Wednesday marked the sixth anniversary.

Rather than tout his trajectory of success in pro basketball in the years since, Brown simply shared this IG post from @celtics.everyday detailing just a few of his many accomplishments in the NBA and beyond.

Teachers can have a profound effect on a young person’s psyche. In Brown’s case, he was thankfully mentally strong enough to overcome perceptions and forge a different path through life.

‘Star Wars Day’ Will Be Getting A Virtual Convention For This Year’s May The 4th Celebrations

Everything’s moving online these days, from SNL to Trolls World Tour to Chris Martin concerts. So why not conventions? As per The Hollywood Reporter, May the 4th — better known round geek circles as “Star Wars Day” — will be fitted with a virtual convention, or as they’re dubbing it, “An Online Revelry.”

The internet hoedown is being organized by New York Comic Con and Star Wars Celebration organizers ReedPop, and it seems to be a packed affair. There will be live-tweeting for movies and shows like Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels, on top of Q&As and discussion with the likes of voice actors and authors of Star Wars novels.

But there’s more:

Additionally, fans will be able to take part in trivia quizzes and prize giveaways across the May 4-5 period, with ReedPop encouraging usage of the hashtags #Maythe4th and #Revengeofthe5th for those participating. Events will take place across social media accounts associated with multiple ReedPop properties, including New York Comic Con, C2E2, BookCon, Emerald City Comic Con and Florida SuperCon, on both Twitter and Facebook.

Star Wars Day was first launched in 2011, the May 4th date chosen, of course, because it allows revelers to make a “May the Fourth Be With You” joke. Surely future conventions will take note of how this one goes off.

You can view the day’s full schedule over at THR.
