Mavericks Center Willie Cauley-Stein Will Miss The Bubble League

The Dallas Mavericks won’t have Willie Cauley-Stein when they enter the NBA’s bubble league in Orlando. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Cauley-Stein has decided to join the list of players who will not suit up when the league goes to Disney World, with Charania mentioning that his decision is driven by the fact that his partner is expecting a child sometime next month.

Cauley-Stein joined Dallas at the trade deadline following starting center Dwight Powell tearing his Achilles. In 54 games this season with the Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors, Cauley-Stein averaged 7.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks in 20.3 minutes per game.

This isn’t the only news about the Mavericks’ roster from Thursday. In a move that was floated earlier in the day by Tim MacMahon of ESPN, Charania reports that Dallas will add former Sixers guard Trey Burke to its bench.

Burke would, theoretically, fill a role as a guard off the bench left by Jalen Brunson, who suffered a shoulder injury back in February and has already been ruled out of suiting up for the team in Florida. He’s also familiar with the Mavericks, having played for them in 25 games at the end of the 2018-19 season before departing in free agency. With Philly, Burke appeared in 25 games off the bench and averaged 5.9 points a night.

One would expect the Mavs to still be on the lookout for frontcourt help to try and fill the gap left by Cauley-Stein, so more transactions may be on the way in Dallas.

Noname Clears Her Tweets After Beyonce Fans Lash Out At Her On Twitter

After a controversial month in which her tweets caused multiple backlashes against her, Noname has once again cleared her Twitter timeline. Noname is no stranger to receiving outsized attention for her opinions, but this time, it appears she ran afoul of the more vicious Beyhive fans of Beyonce, who mobilized like the insects for which they are named to send enough abuse Noname’s way to prompt her to delete all of her tweets.

Twitter

Retweeting a video of political activist Angela Davis speaking about her radical ideas, Noname expressed a wish that “Angela got the love Beyonce gets.” Of course, any insinuation that any human being deserves to be as exalted as Beyonce generally sends the Hive into a frenzy, so they got busy attacking Noname in retaliation. Exacerbating the issue were the J. Cole fans who were angry at Noname’s supporters for criticizing his song “Snow On Tha Bluff,” on which he raps about an anonymous young woman whose tone bothers him.

After fans online determined “Snow On Tha Bluff” to be a backhanded references to Noname’s work, they called out Cole for “tone-policing” and encouraged him to research Noname’s book club, which she uses to do the education that he requested on the song. Unfortunately, the whole situation was blown out-of-proportion by fans who took the criticism of J. Cole as a criticism of their decision to support J. Cole, causing them to lash out and Noname to respond with “Song 33” — a response for which she later apologized, as she felt it distracted from actual progressive activism.

Despite this, Noname remained outspoken on Twitter, tweeting her feelings about Angela Davis’ lack of public recognition and joking that Jay-Z — Beyonce’s husband, with whom the Beyhive has already taken issue on multiple separate occasions themselves — is a “fed” for his embrace of Black Capitalist philosophies. Previously, she was attacked herself for expressing interest in the same policies, as well as for expressing her distaste for the lack of diversity at her shows. The common denominator appears to be Noname herself — and the fact that so many people on Twitter seem so dead set on disagreeing with her opinions, no matter what they are.

Bonnaroo Organizers Have Canceled The 2020 Festival

Bonnaroo is now the latest major festival to cancel its 2020 iteration in light of the pandemic. Bonnaroo festival organizers have announced they would be scrapping this year’s event in order to protect the safety of its staff, artists, and festivalgoers.

The festival was originally scheduled to take place in Manchester, Tennessee over the weekend June 11. The festival had recently pushed back its date until September in hopes that it would be safe to gather in large crowds by then. But seeing as this Wednesday marked the highest recorded number of coronavirus cases in the US, Bonnaroo has decided to cancel its 2020 event entirely. The festival had booked many big-name artists to perform this year, including a reunion set by Tool and headlining performances by Miley Cyrus, Lizzo, and Tame Impala.

In a statement, festival organizers wrote that the decision was born out of an “abundance of caution” for everyone involved:

“Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival will not take place this September 24-27, 2020 as originally rescheduled. Our annual time together on the Farm is nothing short of magical, but out of an abundance of caution and for the health and safety of all Bonnaroovians, artists, staff, partners and our community, this is a necessary reality. More information on lineup, camping and accommodations will be available at a later date.”

After announcing the festival’s cancelation, Bonnaroo organizers said they are setting their sights on the future and have already confirmed 2021’s festival date. Next year, Bonnaroo will celebrate its 20th anniversary on the weekend of June 17 to 20 with a to-be-announced lineup.
