Is ‘The Idea Of You’ Based On Harry Styles?

The trailer for The Idea Of You was unveiled today (March 6), and one thing that viewers might notice is the male lead, who’s a young pop star and a member of a beloved boy band. Sound familiar?

Is The Idea Of You Based On Harry Styles?

The movie is based on Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name, and the character (named Hayes) has drawn a ton of Styles comparisons previously. Lee has addressed them herself: In a GoodReads Q&A, Lee explained, “Hayes is very different from Harry Styles. I think people who are aware of Harry and/or want to picture Harry will. And that’s completely fair, as the most successful British boy band of the last ten years is One Direction. And if you’re going to create a twenty-something popstar, you may want to start with a good head of hair and dimples, because why not? But so much of who I wanted Hayes to be — his persona, his lineage, his upbringing, his education, his experiences, his cadence, his speech, his sense of self — is very specific, and not at all like Harry.”

She also said in a 2020 Vogue interview, “This was never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles. It was supposed to be a story about a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her sexuality and rediscovering herself, just at the point that society traditionally writes women off as desirable and viable and whole.”

Not to mention, in a 2017 interview, Lee said, “A few years ago, my husband was away on business and I was up late surfing music videos on YouTube when I came across the face of a boy I’d never seen in a band I’d never paid attention to, and it was so aesthetically perfect it took me by surprise. It was like… art. I spent a good hour or so Googling and trying to figure out who this kid was and in doing so I discovered that he often dated older women, and so the seed was planted.”

Anne Hathaway Falls In Love With A Boy Band Member (Who Definitely Isn’t Harry Styles) In ‘The Idea Of You’ Trailer

In The Idea of You, Anne Hathaway plays a divorced mother who takes her daughter to Coachella where she has a chance encounter with Hayes Campbell, a singer in the boy band August Moon, and they fall in love.

If that sounds like fan fiction, well, that’s because it is. Probably.

The Idea of You is based on author Robinne Lee’s novel of the same name, which was allegedly inspired by Harry Styles during his One Direction days. “I came across the face of a boy I’d never seen in a band I’d never paid attention to, and it was so aesthetically perfect it took me by surprise,” Lee explained in a 2017 interview. “It was like… art. I spent a good hour or so Googling and trying to figure out who this kid was, and in doing so, I discovered that he often dated older women, and so the seed was planted.” She doesn’t specifically name Harry Styles, but he famously has a weakness for older women (nine years is technically “older”).

Lee later said The Idea of You was “never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles,” but come on. Nicholas Galitzine, the actor who plays Hayes Campbell, is very Harry-coded in the film’s trailer, which you can watch above.

The Idea of You centers on Solène (Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mom who is serendipitously blindsided by a second chance at love. Solène’s husband Dan ended their marriage, and now he has canceled his Coachella trip with their 16-year-old daughter. Solène picks up the pieces and braves the crowds and desert heat. There, she meets and begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Galitzine), the lead singer of the hottest boy band on the planet, August Moon. She finds herself dodging the 24-hour news cycle, all while balancing her new globe-trotting romance, career, and parenting a teenage daughter.

The Idea of You, which is directed by Wet Hot American Summer legend Michael Showalter (!), premieres on Amazon Prime Video on May 2.

Kamasi Washington Announces ‘Fearless Movement,’ His First Album In Years, As Well As 2024 Tour Dates

It’s been a minute since we’ve gotten new Kamasi Washington, as his most recent album is 2018’s Heaven And Earth. His comeback is nigh, though: Today (March 6), he announced the upcoming release of Fearless Movement, a new album. He also shared a video for “Prologue.”

Washington recruited a strong roster of collaborators for the project, including André 3000 (on flute), George Clinton, BJ The Chicago Kid, Thundercat, Terrace Martin, and more.

Per a press release, Washington calls the project his “dance album,” saying, “It’s not literal. Dance is movement and expression, and in a way it’s the same thing as music — expressing your spirit through your body. That’s what this album is pushing.”

The press release also notes, “Where previous albums dealt with cosmic ideas and existential concepts, Fearless Movement focuses in on the everyday, an exploration of life on earth. This change in scope is due in large part to the birth of Washington’s first child a few years ago.”

Washington adds, “Being a father means the horizon of your life all of a sudden shows up. My mortality became more apparent to me, but also my immortality — realizing that my daughter is going to live on and see things that I’m never going to see. I had to become comfortable with this, and that affected the music that I was making.”

Watch the “Prologue” video above and find the Fearless Movement art and tracklist below. Washington also announced new tour dates, so find those below as well.

Broke-Ass Trump Didn’t Even Provide An Open Bar For His MAGA Faithful At His Mar-A-Lago Super Tuesday Watch Party

Ex-President Trump is so low on cash (despite his constant claims of being a billionaire) that he has apparently been hitting up Elon Musk for help paying his New York fraud judgment. That sum is racking up astronomical interest by the day, and the situation is so serious that Trump didn’t want to (or couldn’t) shill out some free Mai Tais for his MAGA followers at the Mar-a-Lago watch party on Super Tuesday night.

Mr. Potty Mouth‘s no-booze shindig isn’t a rumor, either. That tidbit was revealed by Fox News as relayed by Raw Story when correspondent Aishah Hasnie spoke of how the Trump campaign expected a thousand attendees at this event, which was only getting underway when she touched base with Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier. He observed, “Yeah, that’s not a big party.”

Why did Baier go there? As Hasnie told the duo, “There is no open bar and there is a soda bar, a pop bar if you want to call it if you’re from the midwest but we [have] no free alcohol at least tonight here in Mar-a-Lago.” In the words of MacCallum, “I think it’s gonna be a short party.”

Well, maybe Trump livened things up later with his butt-shaking moves? It does not appear that Fox News captured that as well, but the above clip shows the sad revelation of a dry night for MAGAs.

Kristen Stewart Turned Heads With Her ‘Most Daring’ Outfit Ever At The ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ Premiere

Love Lies Bleeding, the new film from director Rose Glass about a gym manager (played by Kristen Stewart) who falls in love with a jacked bodybuilder (Katy O’Brian), had its Los Angeles premiere on Tuesday.

The reception was rapturous, just like it was when the A24 movie debuted at the Sundance Film Festival (it ranks among her best-reviewed films on Rotten Tomatoes with a 91 percent Fresh rating). The reaction to the outfit that Stewart wore to the premiere was equally ecstatic, with Cosmopolitan UK calling it her “most daring red carpet look ever.” Or as NDTV put it, “Nobody can ignore Kristen Stewart in a black bodysuit even if they tried.”

Stewart’s backless ultra-high-cut body suit from Chanel “included small straps that wrapped below her shoulders, exposing her back,” according to People. “She also draped a black blazer across her arms. The star accessorized with high-waisted sheer black tights and a pair of black pointed pumps.”

At the premiere, Stewart was asked what she would be doing if she wasn’t an actor. “I’d probably be a caterer. Keep the set running,” she told People. “I cook all the time. People who don’t cook say, ‘Oh, I make that one thing.’ I’m like, ‘F*cking name it.’ I will make it for you.”

Love Lies Bleeding is described by A24 as an “electric new love story” about a “reclusive gym manager Lou [who] falls hard for Jackie, an ambitious bodybuilder headed through town to Vegas in pursuit of her dream. But their love ignites violence, pulling them deep into the web of Lou’s criminal family.” The cast also includes Ed Harris, Jena Malone, Anna Baryshnikov, and Dave Franco.

Love Lies Bleeding opens in theaters on March 8.

‘NCIS: Origins’ Season 1: Everything To Know So Far Including The Release Date And More

NCIS Origins
CBS

‘Tis the era for networks and streaming services to expand upon established successes with spin offs. That concept is nothing new, of course, but the strategy has gone into overdrive with Billions beginning to multiply Showtime and Amazon putting followups into motion for Bosch with spin offs for both Jack Ryan and The Terminal List in the works, too.

As well, revived hits like Suits will now be branching off, NCIS-style, with Suits: LA. And speaking of NCIS, that series has already spun off a few times already (with NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawai’i;, and NCIS: Sydney), but that isn’t enough. A few more shows are coming with focus upon former NCIS characters with Michael Weatherly and Cote De Pablo signing on for a show about where Tony and Ziva are at these days. Additionally, a prequel series about the early days of Mark Harmon’s Leroy Jethro Gibbs is coming. Of course, it’s worth remembering that NCIS was actually a spin off of JAG, so at least this franchise already has experience with branching out. Let’s talk about what to expect from the most swiftly upcoming NCIS spinoff.

Plot

NCIS: Origins will focus upon the earlier career days of Gibbs, who of course left NCIS in 2021 after Mark Harmon portrayed the head of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service for 18 seasons. This lead character debuted, along with Abby (Pauley Perrette) and Donald “Ducky” Mallard (the late David MacCallum) in JAG before NCIS formally launched in 2003. The series has previously shown flashbacks of Gibbs’ earlier career and life, both of which have been complicated by his personal history. That includes Gibbs’ strained relationship with his father, Jackson, and the death of his wife and daughter.

Speaking of the latter two Gibbs family members, devoted NCIS junkies have noticed a glaring continuity error in the Leroy Jethro Gibbs timeline. That would be the question of how long, exactly, Gibbs has been on the NCIS career path (either 1984 or 1991), and in light of that discrepancy, it might not seem so strange that we have seen “younger” Gibbs onscreen prior to now, but he will be portrayed by a fairly different-looking actor in the prequel series. Presumably, Mark Harmon’s own son, Sean, wasn’t interested in the role, although both Harmons are onboard the prequel series as producers.

NCIS: Origins is formally set in 1991 and will dig into Gibbs’ earliest days investigating Navy-related crimes, around 12 years prior to the original NCIS series. So, we are unlikely to see an earlier version of Abby, who was surely far too young in 1991 to be kicking around in a forensics lab. However, the show’s 400th episode did reveal that Gibbs and Ducky first met back in 1980, so hey, there’s a chance that we could get to see some whippersnapper version of Ducky (fingers crossed). From the prequel’s description:

Origins will find Gibbs starting his career as a new special agent at the fledgling NCIS Camp Pendleton office. He takes his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks (played by Muse Watson in the original series).

Cast

Austin Stowell (previously seen in Hulu’s Catch-22 and Peacock’s A Friend of the Family) will play fledgling Leroy Jethro Gibbs. There isn’t a striking resemblance between Stowell and what audiences remember Mark Harmon looking like back in his Summer School days, but surely, people can suspend belief for the love of this franchise.

Release Date

CBS has added NCIS: Origins for debut within their 2024-25 schedule, so we can cross fingers for a late 2024 premiere. A full first season has been ordered thus far.

Trailer

Filming has yet to begin, so of course, no trailer exists yet. However, it’s always worth looking back at this mashup of “Gibbs, Gibbs, Gibbs” from the mouth of Pauley Perrette’s Abby:

Camila Cabello Shared A Snippet Of A New Single And Seemingly Got Jimmy Butler To Help Reveal The Title

Camila Cabello Miami Heat game NBA 2024
Getty Image

Camila Cabello season appears to be shortly on the way, especially after the busy day she had yesterday.

At around 9 p.m. ET yesterday, Cabello took to social media to share a 28-second snippet of new music, which features a lot of repetitions of the phrase “I love it.” She captioned the post, “coming soon(er than you think).”

So, it would be natural to think that’s the song title, “I Love It.” However, Cabello also turned up to the Miami Heat’s game against the Detroit Pistons last night, where she was seen sporting a Heat jersey that replaced the last name on the back with “I Luv It.” She also connected with the Heat’s Jimmy Butler pre-game and gave him his own “I Luv It” jersey, which he put on and wore for a spell during warm-ups.

At the moment, in light of all this, what appears to be the case is that the song is called “I Luv It” and that it’s out soon, possibly even this week if Cabello’s “soon(er than you think)” is any indication. No release date has been confirmed yet, though.

Cabello ended her 2023 by indicating she’d be dropping new music in 2024, and it looks like that’ll finally come to fruition in the coming days.

Shaq Didn’t Like Zion Williamson Saying He’ll Do The Dunk Contest If He’s An All-Star

Shaq
TNT

Zion Williamson turned heads earlier on Tuesday night after the New Orleans Pelicans blew out the Toronto Raptors. During his postgame press conference, Williamson promised that he would participate in a future Dunk Contest if he’s selected to participate in the All-Star Game — he’s made it twice in his career, although in 2023, he had to miss out on playing due to injury.

It would certainly give the NBA the sort of big name it covets for the Dunk Contest, but Shaquille O’Neal wasn’t a big fan of how Williamson went about doing this. During TNT’s postgame show, Shaq expressed his disappointment that Williamson said “if I make the All-Star team” instead of going with something more emphatic.

“You have to see it, Zion,” Shaq said. “When I make the All-Star team, yes. All that if talk, it’s just telling me that you’re not fully confident in yourself. Which is ok, he’s still a young player. But at some point, you have to say — like I said in Vegas — ‘this is my league.’”

Shaq is referring to the clip of him and Charles Barkley really tearing into Williamson after the Pelicans lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the semifinal of the In-Season Tournament. While it’s unclear if he took all of that to heart, if there is a silver lining for Williamson, he has played pretty well as the Pelicans sit above the Play-In line in the Western Conference.
