Stephen Colbert Torched Trump For His Hitler-y Comments About Immigrants, Saying He Probably Read The ‘Mein Kampf’ Edition ‘With Pictures’

Stephen Colbert
CBS

Over the weekend Donald Trump was at it again, which is to say spouting the kind of things Adolf Hitler used to. At a rally in New Hampshire, the former president told his adoring crowd that migrants are “poisoning the blood” of America. It that blood poisoning line sounds familiar, it’s not just because Trump used it mere weeks ago. It’s also because it was exactly how Adolf Hitler used to describe Jewish people in Mein Kampf. It’s yet another disturbing turn in Trump’s third campaign. But Stephen Colbert tried to find something darkly funny in it.

In his opening monologue for Monday’s The Late Show, Colbert began with familiar Christmas refrain, singing, “It’s beginning to look a lot like fascism.” He then played the clip from Trump’s speech, to which he took a fair amount of umbrage.

“That is absolutely disgusting,” Colbert told the crowd. “Also: Not true. The blood of our country is not being poisoned by immigrants. It’s being poisoned by dipping pizza in Ranch dressing.”

Colbert then pointed out the alarming connection to Mein Kampf, before turning to Trump’s defenders. One of them is a former advisor to Mike Pence, who argued that it’s “highly unlikely” that the famously impatient Trump ever cracked open Mein Kampf.

“Right. ‘Cause it’s a book,” Colbert added. “He probably got the version with pictures, Mein First Kampf.

Colbert also brought up Lindsey Graham, Trump’s on-again-off-again pal, who brushed off his bud’s whole Hitler thing by saying he could “care less what language people use as long as we get it right.”

“Yeah, what language our leaders use does not and has never mattered,” interjected Colbert. “That’s why the Constitution starts with ‘We da ploo-plees of the Untided Yabba Dabba Doo bawita bawita dang da dang homina homina homina homina homina homina homina.”

As it happens, per Mediaite, on Monday saw an old Vanity Fair piece from 1990 get once again resurfaced, in which Trump’s first wife, Ivana, claimed that “from time to time” he “reads a book of Hitler’s collected speeches, My New Order, which he keeps in a cabinet by his bed.”

If that sounds far-fetched then in the same profile Trump himself half-admitted that he was given a Hitler book by a friend. He thought it was Mein Kampf but it was actually My New Order, a collection of his speeches. (He also claimed the friend who gave it to him was Jewish. He wasn’t.) That said, Trump swore he never read it.

“If I had these speeches, and I am not saying that I do,” Trump said, “ I would never read them.” What a fun guy.

The Best Live Music Performances On TV From The Past Week

Billie Eilish 2023 Coachella

The holiday season has brought forth a wave of Yuletide records. One example is the battle between Mariah Carey’sAll I Want For Christmas Is You” and Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree” vying for the top spot on the music charts. But on late-night television, musical guests haven’t completely given in to the seasonal mood.

Cameos on Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel Live included a sprinkle of holiday jams, but original records also received their shine. Check out some of the best live music performances on TV from the past week (December 11 to 17), in alphabetical order below.

Billie Eilish:

Barbiemania has picked back up now that the record-breaking movie is accessible on streaming services. Billie Eilish’s performance of “What Was I Made For?” on Saturday Night Live revitalized interest in the film’s official soundtrack. Her striking live set shows precisely why the track earned a Grammy nomination.

Gracie Abrams:

Best New Artist Grammy nominee Gracie Abrams’ appearance on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon was a wake-up call to viewers unfamiliar with the budding star. Abrams’ performance of her single “Should Hate You” displayed the full range of her potential.

Jason Isbell:

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’s discography is enough to fill up a night’s worth of programming on its own. But, for the group’s performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, they kept it simple. To celebrate the 10th-anniversary reissue of Southeastern, the band repurposed their track “Cover Me Up.”

Olivia Rodrigo:

With each late-night show stop, Olivia Rodrigo continues to take her sets up a notch. Her performance of “Can’t Catch Me Now” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was yet another stand-out to add to her resume.

Queens of the Stone Age:

Due to overwhelming demand, Queens of the Stone Age extended their End Is Nero Tour to appease fans. Just before closing out their West Coast dates, the group stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform their song “Emotion Sickness.” For those who were unable to catch the band on the road, the in-studio set certainly gave them an intense case of FOMO.

Sleater-Kinney:

The last notable TV performance of the week was again credited to Jimmy Kimmel Live. Sleater-Kinney let it all hang out with a bold set of their record “Say It Like You Mean It.”

Jesse Watters Thinks The Sex Tape Filmed In A Senate Hearing Room Is Worse Than The Jan. 6 Riot

Jesse Watters Weed
Fox News

Last week a Congressional aide was busted filming a sex act on the floor of a Senate hearing room. Kind of weird! Surely weirder things have happened in the Capitol. For instance, did you know a former president once helped inspire hundreds of his supporters to storm the building in an attempt to overturn an election her lost? To some that would be worse than two people enjoying some afternoon delight. And yet you’re probably not Jesse Watters.

Per The Daily Beast, Monday’s episode of The Five devoted a segment to the sex tape story, which has really outraged the far right. Turns out one of the perpetrators was an aide to Democratic Senator Ben Cardin, who has since fired him. That the pair in question were both men inspired Watters to inevitably rail off some possible gay porn titles, adding that, after learning it was a Democrat’s aide, he “should have seen it coming.”

What did he mean by that? Well, Watters went off.

“I know after they did the fire alarm pulling, the throwing of the elbows, a sex tape was inevitable,” Watters railed, although the second item — the “throwing of the elbows” — actually refers to something done by outgoing Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. “And now it’s a race to the bottom. They’ve been telling us—the Democrats—that they need to keep the government out of the bedroom. Well, they just turned the government into the bedroom!”

Watters then went even further into the ether, saying, “to me, this is worse than Jan. 6—so much worse—because they say they defiled the Congress [on Jan. 6]. What is this!?”

He then downplayed the riot, saying, “We had a couple guys throw their feet up on Nancy’s desk. What is this? They said they obstructed an official government proceeding. They delayed the certification for what, like, two hours?”

Two folks porking in a hearing room, Watters argued, was worse: “They’re not going to be able to have a hearing in this room for weeks! This thing needs to be deep cleaned.”

Of course, it’s not surprising to hear anyone on the right say that sex is worse than violence.

When Will ‘The Curse’ Season 1, Episode 7 Drop?

The Curse Nathan Fielder Emma Stone
Showtime

Nathan For You ended six years ago, but Nathan Fielder was far from a one-trick pony. He produced the brilliant How to With John Wilson, one of the best shows about New York City (and wherever else he roamed). Last year’s The Rehearsal was a mind-melting journey through the ethics of documentary filmmaking. Now there’s The Curse, in which he, Emma Stone, and Benny Safdie send up Property Brothers-style home improvement shows.

The Curse began airing in mid-November, with 10 episodes planned. Each episode has dropped on a Sunday. But we’re heading into the holidays, which raises a bit of a pickle: Just because this forthcoming Sunday is Christmas Eve, does that mean The Curse will take a break?

The answer: Absolutely not. Its seventh episode, entitled “Self-Exclusion,” is still set to air that day. Merry Christmas, you filthy animals.

What’s more, The Curse‘s eighth episode is scheduled for December 31, i.e., New Year’s Eve.

On the show, Stone and Fielder play Whitney and Asher Siegel, a newly married couple who are trying to conceive their first child while starring in a new HGTV show. Things go awry after Asher offers a young girl a $100 bill on camera…only to yank it away when the shot is over (but the camera has yet to cut). As a result, she puts a curse on the show, which results in all manner of tomfoolery across the six seasons aired so far. (And has inspired some memorable late night appearances as well.)

What better way to ring in Christmas than to watch The Curse? See y’all Sunday night when the eighth episode airs on Showtime at 9pm.

When Will The Coachella 2024 Lineup Come Out?

Coachella 2023
Getty Image

The 2024 music festival session is nearly here, and as 2023 winds to a halt, some are thinking about what they want to see in 2024. Atop many music fans’ most anticipated events is Coachella, if not for the lineup, the experience alone. Although the official lineup has not yet been confirmed, ticketholders hope that Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, or Olivia Rodrigo will serve as headliners across the two weekends. So when will the confirmed lineup for Coachella 2024 come out?

Following each year’s event, organizers tend to tease the next installment as early as June (or at least this was the case for Coachella 2023). As for when the subsequent year’s lineup is formally unveiled, it usually goes down in the second week of January.

Coachella 2023’s lineup was rolled out on January 10, 2023. Based on the disappointing and disastrous return of Frank Ocean, the organizers could hold off a few weeks to ensure the headliners for Coachella 2024 are up to par. For now, ticketholders have started counting the days until performers are announced.

Each year, Coachella is held on the Empire Polo Grounds in Indio, California, during the second and third weekends of April.

Coachella 2024 will occur on April 12-14 and April 19-21, 2024. Find more information here.

Daughter disguises Brussels sprouts as chocolates for her Dad in best Christmas prank ever

Christmas might be a time for sentimentality and love and all that gushy goodness, but it can also be a time for unbridled antics. After all, it’s the one time of year when our inner child spirit is supposed to come alive, right? Some people’s inner child just happens to be a bit mischievous.

Singer Judy Louie Brown falls into this category with her hilarious, meticulous and downright diabolical prank played on her dad involving some delightful Ferrero Rocher chocolates…and brussels sprouts.

As Brown shared on X, formerly Twitter, that in 2012 she came up with an “ingenious” way to wind up her dad, something described as her “favorite pastime.”

Brown’s plan was simple: unwrap the chocolates. Wrap Brussels sprouts in the chocolate package. Close the box. And then play “the waiting game.”

Though Brown didn’t divulge her father’s reaction to unwrapping a cruciferous veg in a place of smooth creamy chocolate, it’s safe to say that the prank was a success. In fact, dad was so “spooked” that the next year he wouldn’t touch a Ferrero Rocher. Which is fine, because Brown had bigger plans in store.

“I decided to play the long game & didn’t tamper with the confectionary: spooked by the year before, he would not touch a single Ferrero Rocher (which was great because he usually inhales them at 750mph) so there were Ferreros aplenty for the rest of us. I bided my time,” she wrote on X.

Cut to two years later, Brown has “the devil at her elbow” as she reveals her “most audacious sprout prank yet.”

Her post is accompanied with a photo of some Ferrero Rochers, brussel sprouts, a bar of chocolate and a bag of mixed nuts.

“While he was out I dipped the sprouts in chocolate, rolled them in chopped hazelnuts, and did all I could to replicate the iconic Ferrero,” she wrote, adding, “I re-wrapped and (this is crucial) re-sealed the box with its original tape and a tiny dab of glue. Then secreted it amongst a bag of tasty gifts from my Aunt and retired to watch from afar.”

Thank goodness Brown uses her intellect for dad pranks and not crime.

Of course, dad was still suspicious at first, and only viewed the bag on Christmas Eve. But then on Christmas morning, he couldn’t resist. After all, “He quite likes a post-brekkie Ferrero.”

Brown waited in the kitchen, trying to avoid “spooking” him. In here words, here’s what happened:

“He EXAMINED. He unwrapped. He examined FURTHER. Fears allayed, he popped the whole thing in his mouth. His face played a symphony of emotions: satisfaction, triumph, smugness, consternation, confusion, realization, horror, disgust.”

On Dec 12, Brown shared that the Brussels sprouts saga has endured as a holiday tradition that she describes as “an even-sided conflict, with both resorting to greater nefariousness & descending to even more underhand deception each year.” For example, when Brown hid the sprouts on her father’s toothpaste one year, he apparently retaliated by filling her bedsheets with them.

More recently, Brown showed eager readers how she managed to sneak them into packaged mince pies.

With each new hilarious idea Brown comes up with, she earns her online moniker of “evil genius.”

Maybe it’s okay to be a little naughty for Christmas, especially when it brings such intense joy.

Jeff Bezos explains why he always speaks last in meetings. It’s great advice for everyone.

Amazon and Blue Origin CEO Jeff Bezos recently sat with podcaster Lex Fridman for a rare, long-form interview. Over 2-plus hours, he discussed his thinking process, space exploration, Day 1 mentality, Amazon principles, morning routines and more.

During the conversation, Bezos shared some insights into his work philosophy and one big takeaway was his belief in always speaking last in meetings. The advice is helpful for anyone, whether they want to be a better leader or more persuasive in social situations.

The strategy makes a lot of sense for Bezos. As one of the most influential and successful business leaders in American history, it has to be hard to get an honest opinion from your team when you have such an incredible record of success.

When Bezos speaks first in a meeting, it can significantly affect the feedback he gets from his team.

“In every meeting I attend, I always speak last,” Bezos told Fridman. “I know, from experience, if I speak first, even very strong-willed, highly intelligent, high-judgment participants in that meeting will wonder, ‘If Jeff thinks that? I came into this meeting thinking one thing, but maybe I’m not right.’”

“If you’re the most senior person in the room, go last,” Bezos continued. “Let everyone else go first. Ideally, have the most junior person go first—try to go in order of seniority—so that you can hear everyone’s opinion in an unfiltered way. Someone you really respect says something? It makes you change your mind a little.”

Executive leadership coach Hortense Le Gentil, author of The Unlocked Leader, agrees with Bezo’s approach to leadership and believes that it allows people to become better listeners, which can help them in all facets of their lives.

“Leaders who keep practicing becoming better listeners develop deeper and stronger connections with their teams, which in turn contributes to boosting their engagement and performance,” Le Gentil writes for Fast Company.

Personal Grown Blogger Brian Walsh says that when we speak last, we give greater accountability to the people we communicate with, whether it’s family, a sports team, a community organization, or coworkers.

“Let’s say you have an idea that you think is best and that you want to be implemented,” Walsh writes at An Insight Into Life. “By speaking first, it may result in people feeling like they are being told what to do, removing them from the creation process. However, you wait until everyone else has spoken and find that someone else also has the same idea. Now by allowing them to suggest it and by agreeing with them, they feel like it is their own.”

“This can also be applied to our personal lives,” Walsh continues. “If you are arguing with someone, they often don’t hear what you are suggesting because their emotions have taken over, and you trying to correct them just adds fuel to the fire. Allow them to talk and keep your suggestions to yourself.”

Although Bezos framed his advice around choosing when to speak, the more important lesson may be deciding when to listen. Being a great listener is valuable because it’s a hard skill to develop. It’s not just about hearing what someone’s saying but understanding, empathizing and withholding judgment at the same time.

Being a good listener is the key to connecting with others, but it’s also a vital tool in personal growth. You can’t learn if you can’t listen.

Prefer to buy gift cards as Christmas presents? You should be aware of this holiday scam.

Once upon a time, gift cards were seen as lazy, impersonal choices for Christmas presents. But nowadays, mindsets have shifted. In today’s more practically-focused, convenience-driven world, gift cards reign supreme. After all, when finances are tight, a free $20-$100 always offers the bonus gift of relief. It’s really no surprise that 29% of celebrators say they would actually prefer to receive gift cards or physical gifts according to Civic Science.

However, there are a few greedy Grinches out there ruining the gift card purchasing experience with multiple styles of scams. This kind of naughty behavior is so prevalent that since 2022, 73 million Americans have become unsuspecting targets

.

Over on TikTok, just type in hashtags like #GiftCardScam and #GiftCardScamAwareness, and you’ll find countless people sharing their own horror stories of being duped over what should have been a stress-free purchase.

One particular method used by scammers, as explained in a PSA below, is stealing cards in bulk, carefully opening the card envelope without damaging it, cutting off the tops of the cards with the vital information on it, then carefully placing the cut up card back into the envelope and resealing it.

The perp then returns the envelopes back to the store, and once an unsuspecting shopper purchases the gift card, they drain it for all its worth.

@quantum.healer PSA | Gift Card Scam Alert Please take note of the gift card scam that is alarming and is increasing this holiday season. #psa #fyp #fypviral #christmas #holidayseason #giftcardscams #bediligent #educationalpurposes #hawaiitiktok #hawaiitiktokers ♬ original sound – Suzy Aledo

To avoid being bamboozled, shoppers are encouraged to feel for the entire card inside the envelope, or ask the store to remove the cards from their envelope at checkout.

Scammers can also might put a fake barcode on top of the card, or simply scratch off the barcode, after they’ve recorded it of course. That’s why it’s vital to check a gift card thoroughly before walking out of the store with it.

Of course, occasionally cashiers are the ones doing the gift card swaps, so it pays to keep a watchful eye.

More often than not though, gift card scams happen over the phone or online. A few examples below:

An imposter calls pretending to be from a well known company or government agency claiming you owe money, and—of course—that the only way to pay them is with gift cards.

This is just a huge NO. Even if whoever is on the other line can somehow whip up personal information (which they procured on the dark web) no actual company would only take payment in the form of gift cards.

@abc7newsbayarea Gift cards are only for gifting! Scammers love using gift cards to steal your money and will try to trick you into buying them. 7 On Your Side’s Scam School has another lesson on what to look out for. #giftcards #giftcardscams #imposter #scam #scam? #scams #scamcalls #fraud #7onyourside #scamschool #abc7scamschool #news #fyp #foryoupage #abc7news ♬ original sound – ABC7 News

“Charity” campaigns on social media seemingly raising fund fora good cause, and accepting gift cards as payment.

Aura.com suggests using sites like CharityNavigator.org ,The Better Business Bureau’s (BBB) Wise Giving Alliance andCharityWatch.org to check for any charity’s legitimacy. But if they’re asking for gift cards, it’s a dead giveaway they are not.

Fake websites for checking gift card balance.

This one is particularly sneaky, as almost everyone has the need to check their gift card’s remaining balance at some point. Your safest bet is to call the number on the back of your card to check the balance.

Fake profiles on dating sites that ask for gift cards as romantic gestures—a trip to see you, help with an emergency, etc. etc.

It’s a good general rule of thumb to never send any kid of money to a person you haven’t met. And to be aware of catfishing.

An “accidental” refund that requires to to pay back in gift cards.

This happened to a woman in Wisconsin June 2022—she received an email from Amazon alerting her to a “fraud” on her account. When she called the phones number listed, the supposed Amazon rep “accidentally” refunded her $10,000 and told her she had to pay it back in gift cards. Sadly she didn’t realize it was a scam until she had lost $11,500.

If a rep “accidentally” sends you a refund, that’s a red flag. And if they suddenly need it to be paid back in gift cards, that red flag turns bright crimson.

One last tip regarding this, from Aura: Avoid installing remote access software, such as AnyDesk or TeamViewer, since these are the tools scammers use to manipulate your screen and make it look like they’ve refunded you too much money.

A random text from a family member in “urgent” need of help.

It’s best to trust your instincts here. If a message doesn’t quite sound like your loved one, it probably isn’t them. But rather someone who hacked their email or phone number.

Fake text messages from a boss or colleague in need of, you guessed it, “urgent” help.

Usually when this happens, the fake boss or colleague will ask that you send photo of the cards with the card number and PIN easily visible. But bottom line:no boss should be asking their employees to purchase gift cards. That’s just weird.

@ktsarna I tried my best… #fakeboss #scammers #scamtext #giftcardscams #boredathome ♬ Monkeys Spinning Monkeys – Kevin MacLeod & Kevin The Monkey

Getting a notification that you’ve won a sweepstakes that you never entered, and that you have to pay certain fees with gift cards.

In this case—the “winner” is the loser. Basically, you can’t win sweepstakes you haven’t even entered. So if you get a notification saying otherwise, someone is trying to hoodwink you.

Discounted gift cards being sold on platforms like Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist.

Look, it’s no surprise that these online selling sites are pretty much the Wild Wild West. And when you’re in a lawless territories with very little projections, a good rule of thumb to live by is : if it seems too good to be true, it probably is.

In this scenario, a three-way call to an automated line will be initiated between you, the seller and the marchant to “prove” the balance is on the card. But as you type in the card number and PIN, the scammers are able to reverse engineer that information using the key tones. Crazy, right?

There are, however, legitimate discounted gift card selling sites like CardCash or ClipKard if you’re looking to save, without being scammed.

No one deserves to have their holiday season ruined by a Scrooge. Hopefully this information helps make your Christmas shopping a little safer.
