Every Chipotle Protein Currently On The Menu (Including The New Smoked Brisket), Ranked For 2024

Untitled-1
Uproxx

The secret to Chipotle’s menu is nailing down your build. Once you know exactly how you like your burrito, bowl, and tacos, the flavors deepen, and you’re left not with a disparate clash of ingredients, but a harmonious symphony of complementary flavors. We have a lot of thoughts on how to achieve this (hint, it’s all about balance), and in our various taste tests we’ve come to find that no single ingredients has as big an influence as the protein.

A burrito made with barbacoa is going to taste radically different from one made with sofritas, even if every other ingredient is the same. The protein choice has such a profound effect on how the other ingredients interact that if you’ve yet to find “your” order at Chipotle, it may be because you’re getting the wrong protein.

So to help guide you to only the very best, we’ve ranked every single protein available at Chipotle right now. To get a better sense of how these different meat (and non-meat) options taste, we’ve tasted them without any additional ingredients. This has allowed us to really zero in on what these different options offer.

It also made the employees at my local Chipotle think I was crazy. “So you just want meat on a tortilla? Nothing else?” is a question I was actually asked. But hey, somebody had to do it. Here is every protein option at Chipotle right now, ranked.

7. Sofritas

Dane Rivera

Calories: 150
Protein: 8g

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

Yes, I’m ranking Chipotle’s only plant-based protein (unless you count guacamole) last, and that sucks if you don’t eat meat, but it is what it is. The Sofritas just fall short.

Here is what works: the flavor is a nice blend of pepper and cumin that really help cut through any add-ons. They have a savory vibe that is somewhat akin to meat.

What doesn’t work is the texture. It’s so incredibly wet that it’ll soak through your tortilla or pool up at the bottom of your bowl. The chunky tofu bits that make up the bulk of this protein are chewy to the point of being distracting.

And I can’t be the only one that feels this way, because its clear from the bin that this is Chipotle’s least popular meat option. That means it doesn’t get changed out enough, so when its served to you it’s almost always stale and lukewarm.

The Bottom Line:

The way-too-wet consistency and chewy texture make this Chipotle’s worst protein option. We’re begging you Chipotle, on behalf of non-meat-eaters, make a calabacitas (sautéed squash, corn, tomatoes, onions and pepper) or nopales (cactus) option.

6. Carnitas

Carnitas

Calories: 210
Protein: 23g

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

Chipotle’s carnitas are quite possibly the worst carnitas I’ve ever had. And, look, as someone from Mexican heritage who grew up surrounded by amazing taquerias, it’s not that I’m on my high horse about this. I’m not going to sit here and talk about whether or not these are “proper” carnitas — they just don’t have any of the aspects of what make actual carnitas great.

Chipotle’s carnitas are dry, over-salted, and fatty and sinewy when they should be tender and juicy. The flavor is on point, I’m getting cumin, salt, pepper, and oregano with a bit of sweetness, but the chew and dryness is so off-putting, that no amount of flavor could make up for it.

When people say Chipotle isn’t “real Mexican food,” it’s because of sh*t like this.

The Bottom Line:

A major skip. The worst carnitas I’ve ever had at a fast food “Mexican-inspired,” restaurant.

5. Guacamole

Dane Rivera

Calories: 360
Protein: 2g

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

I certainly don’t consider guacamole to be a “protein” option, but Chipotle does, and because of that, we’re ranking it!

As a protein, it leaves a lot to be desired, but flavorwise? It’s hard for me to find something to complain about.

Chipotle’s guacamole features a red onion-dominant flavor, bits of jalapeño, creamy and fresh avocado, and a little too much lime juice. It’s not the best guacamole I’ve ever had, but for a fast food restaurant? It’s hard to find something that compares. Taco Bell, Del Taco, and El Pollo Loco wish they could make guacamole this authentic.

What really sells me on this guacamole is the diced jalapeño, which adds a nice subtle kick that lingers on the palate between bites.

The Bottom Line:

Pretty damn good guacamole. Chipotle just needs to chill out a bit on the lime. Even though it’s not really a protein option.

4. Steak

Dane Rivera

Calories: 150
Protein: 21g

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

I like Chipotle’s steak but it’s probably the least consistently good protein on the entire menu. When it’s good the steak is tender, cooked medium, and has a perfectly caramelized outer that offers a bit of bite and reveals a wonderful medley of black pepper, salt, and cumin. But when its bad, which is more often than not, it’s grainy, chewy, and way too tough.

So use your eyes here, if the steak looks fresh, order it, if not, have a second option at the ready.

The Bottom Line:

If it was a bit more consistent, we’d rank it higher, but for now it’ll have to take fourth place.

3. Chicken

Dane Rivera

Calories: 180
Protein: 32g

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

Chipotle’s chicken is flavor-packed and tender. The chicken tastes flame-grilled and has a nice balance of smokey qualities — courtesy of some ancho chilis — and the savory zest of adobo sauce. Contrary to popular assumption, this chicken is not breast meat, it’s thigh, which is why it’s always so tender and juicy.

If you don’t like dark meat because it tends to be chewy, that’s not really a problem here. These are some pretty lean thighs, so you don’t have to deal with a lot of fatty pieces. You get all of the flavor of dark meat, without any of the chewiness.

The Bottom Line:

Flavorful, juicy, and remarkably consistent. You can rarely go wrong with Chipotle’s chicken.

2. Smoked Brisket

Dane Rivera

Calories: 360
Protein: 22g

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

Chipotle’s newest protein option, the Smoked Brisket, is an improvement over the regular Steak option in every way. The brisket is cooked whole, set to cool, and then hand-chopped which helps it retain its juices, offering tender bite after tender bite.

The flavor here leans much sweeter, with a noticeable brown sugar vibe joined by smokey and earthy chili notes and a nice charred texture that gives it some crunch. Unlike with the steak, when the smoked brisket sits around too long it doesn’t become tough and flavorless, instead the smokey and sweet notes intensify, which is great if you’ve got a long commute, or you’re the type that always ends up with leftovers.

The Bottom Line:

A smokey and sweet improvement to the regular Chipotle steak.

1. Barbacoa

Dane Rivera

Calories: 170
Protein: 24g

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

Chipotle’s all-time greatest protein, if you’re not ordering the barbacoa, you’re f*cking up fam. This stuff is insanely tender and absolutely explodes with flavor. Chipotle’s barbacoa is made from shoulder-cut meat (rather than the traditional cabeza, if that’s been keeping you away) and has this silky, sumptuous quality that makes it more savory and satisfying than every other protein option on the menu.

The main flavor we’re picking up on is beef with notes of oregano, cloves, bay leaf, black pepper, and adobo. What we especially love about the barbacoa though is how it complements every dish on the menu. Bowls are more satisfying with it, burritos more epic, tacos more savory — you can’t go wrong with barbacoa, and because of that, it’s our number one pick, hands down.

The Bottom Line:

The GOAT. Order it on everything, and if you really want to up the flavor on your bowl or salad, ask them to spoon some of the juice this meat sits in over your dish.

A Taylor Swift Fan Was Arrested After Impersonating A Security Guard To Get Into An ‘Eras Tour’ Concert

Last year, a viral story made the rounds, of a Taylor Swift fan who got a job as a security guard at a concert venue so they could see an Eras Tour concert. Well, another fan tried something similar, except they went in a more deceptive route and ended up getting arrested.

Per NBC 6 South Florida, a 44-year-old man named Ivan Mariotti was arrested on charges of falsely impersonating an officer and interference with an entertainment event after pulling a stunt at one of Swift’s recent shows in Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.

Per an arrest report, Mariotti was seen in the venue, wearing a badge. An officer asked why he had the badge, and Mariotti claimed he had been hired by four women to work as a security guard, saying he escorted the women to their seats but didn’t have a ticket himself. When confronted, the women said their aunt had hired a driver for the concert, and they weren’t sure why Mariotti had a badge.

Mariotti was arrested and booked, and while he was later granted a $1,500 bond, he was being held on an immigration hold.

The return of The Eras Tour means new surprise songs, so check out the full list of all surprise songs she’s done so far, here.

Aminé Returns With A Pair Of New Singles: ‘Adam’ And ‘Passenger Princess’ With Smino

Amine
Getty Image

It looks like Aminé is ready for a proper return. The Portland rapper just shared a pair of new songs: the self-titled “Adam” (which is his real first name) and the Smino collaboration “Passenger Princess.” You can listen to both below.

On “Adam,” Aminé utilizes a slower beat to address a cooling romance. “Put your pride aside, come walk with me,” he croons. “I cater to you, please, tell me what you need.”

Meanwhile, “Passenger Princess” samples Total’s “Tell Me,” for a groovy, more boastful angle on relationships. Smino flexes his usual intricate, half-sung style, quipping, “Sometimes, she mad ’cause I’m so aloof and she want me in involved / Sometimes, she hungry, sometimes, she jealous, sometimes, she wrong / Say life is a bitch, I guess I know more ’bout that bitch than I thought.”

From the way the two tracks are presented, it does look a lot like Aminé is preparing to drop a new album, his first since 2020’s Limbo (although he did drop a mixtape, TwoPointFive, in 2021, and the Kaytranada collaboration, Kaytraminé, in 2023). The two tracks follow his remix of Charli XCX’s “360,” “360.5,” which he released in July.

You can listen to Aminé’s new singles “Adam” and “Passenger Princess” with Smino above.

SNX: This Week’s Best Sneakers Feat. The Bad Bunny X Messi Adidas Gazelle & Nike’s Halloween Collection

messi_bad_bunny_SNX(1024x450)
Uproxx

Welcome to SNX DLX, your weekly roundup of the best sneakers to hit the internet — though in this week’s case, we might have to issue an addendum here. We’re still going to be talking about this week’s best sneakers, but we’re also going to be profiling the many Halloween-themed sneakers dropping this week.

And while I love a guide seasonal shoe as much as the next sneakerhead, I don’t know that I would go as far as saying these Halloween shoes are little more than a novelty. So if you’re not a fan of themed-sneakers, feel free to scroll right past the first three sneakers in this list.

Luckily for all you holiday haters, five of this week’s sneakers have nothing to do with Halloween and are dope enough that any one of them may be your favorite of the year. Here are the best sneakers dropping this week, and where to find them.

Nike Dunk Low Halloween

Nike

Price: $130

I can’t tell what the main influence behind this Halloween-themed Dunk is — is it the Swamp Thing or Tales From the Crypt? I’m definitely getting equal parts swampy and decayed vibes from this sneaker, which isn’t something I thought I’d ever say about a shoe.

The Dunk Low Halloween features the classic Dunk build with a cracked leather upper, a stomach-turning green and black color combination, skull insoles, and a skull-shaped toe box. Spooky!

The Nike Dunk Low Halloween is set to drop on October 24th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $130. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.

Nike

Nike Air Force 1 Halloween (Skull)

Nike

Price: $140

The AF-1 Halloween takes all the details from the Dunk Halloween — cracked leather, giant etched skull toe box, spooky insoles — and slaps it across the AF-1. It’s lazy, but if you prefer darker colors and the AF-1 silhouette over the Dunk, then this is the sneaker for you.

The Nike Air Force 1 Halloween is set to drop on October 24th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $140. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.

Nike
Nike

Nike Air Force 1 Low Halloween (Hockey)

Nike

Price: $150

I’m not a fan of Nike dropping two shoes in one week that have the exact same name, so we’re calling this one the “Hockey,” because of the toe box motif. This sneaker takes obvious inspiration from Jason Vorhees and features a much cleaner all-white premium leather upper compared to the other AF-1 Halloween.

It would’ve been really cool if Nike put a wear-away upper on this sneaker that revealed some crimson red, but they didn’t. If you want to steal that idea from me Nike, go ahead and send me an email, we’ll talk details.

The Nike Air Force 1 Low Halloween is set to drop on October 24th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $150. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.

Nike

Ice Studios x New Balance M10 Pristine with Marine Blue

New Balance

Price: $139.99
New Balance has linked up with the New York and London-based clothing brand Ice Studios for a new update on the archival M10 trail running sneaker. The sneaker features big, blocky primary colors with a mixed upper that features mesh and knit, a ARIAPRENE dual-branded foam tongue, and rides on thick rubber tread.

The sneaker balances a lightweight build with utilitarian functionality. It is easily our favorite trail sneaker of the year, which is something we never thought we’d say about a New Balance release.

The Ice Studios x New Balance M10 Pristine with Marine Blue is set to drop on October 24th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $139.99. Pick up a pair at New Balance.

Nike KD 4 Aunt Pearl

Nike

Price: $130

You have to hand it to Kevin Durant — it’s not every day that a pro ball player can drop a sneaker inspired by their aunt and have it come across as incredibly cool, but he’s done it! The KD 4 Aunt Pearl is named and dedicated to Durant’s aunt who sadly passed away from lung cancer 24 years ago. The sneaker was made as a tribute to her memory and legacy, and was made in collaboration with the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

The sneaker features a pearlescent pink upper with pearl graphics at the heel and tongue.

The Nike KD 4 Aunt Pearl is set to drop on October 25th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $130. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.

Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Black and Metallic Silver

Nike

Price: $160

This year Nike has been focusing a lot on the Zoom Vomero but a vast majority of those drops have been women’s size exclusives. So if you’ve got big feet, you’ve probably been feeling left out. Luckily for you, the latest colorway is featuring a full-size run, so if you’ve been eagerly waiting for a new Vomero 5, this is your week!

The Black and Metallic Silver features a mixed upper of textile, synthetic leather, and plastic, with a simple three-color scheme that combines black, silver, and white.

The Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Black and Metallic Silver is set to drop on October 25th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $160. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.

Nike Women’s Air Jordan 4 Orchid

Nike

Price: $215

Looking to pick up an early Christmas gift for your favorite Jordan-wearing girlfriend (or yourself)? We’ve got it right here: the women’s-sized Jordan 4 Orchid. The sneaker features a soft suede upper, gray speckled midsole and wings, and a padded collar.

The Nike Women’s Air Jordan 4 Orchid is set to drop on October 26th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $215. Pick up a pair via the Nike SNKRS app.

Adidas Bad Bunny x Messi Gazelle

Adidas

Price: $180

For Bad Bunny’s latest with Adidas, Benito has teamed up with Argentinian soccer superstar Lionel Messi for this double-branded take on one of Adidas all-time-greatest silhouettes, the Gazelle.

This sneaker features a leather upper with leather lining, “Benito,” and “Leo” branding on the three stripes, Adidas’ rare X-stripped heel, a translucent gum sole, and a cardboard and cream white colorway.

The Adidas Bad Bunny x Messi Gazelle is set to drop on October 26th at 7:00 AM PST for a retail price of $180. Pick up a pair via the Adidas CONFIRMED app.

Indie Mixtape 20: Pom Pom Squad Crafts Her Own Wonderland On ‘Mirror Starts Moving Without Me’

pom pom squad FEATURED
Bao Ngo

On Pom Pom Squad’s 2021 debut album, Death Of A Cheerleader, frontperson Mia Berrin steeped her songs of heartbreak in grungy guitars and poppy melodies on songs like “Head Cheerleader” and “Shame Reactions.” Her second album, Mirror Starts Moving Without Me, is as guitar-heavy as its predecessor, but, this time around, Berrin leans more into her pop-minded proclivities than ever.

Drum machines and synths are all over tracks like “Street Fighter” and “Spinning,” showcasing the Hoboken-based artist’s intuitive abilities to evolve her craft without losing sight of what made Pom Pom Squad so much fun in the first place. Drawing inspiration from Alice In Wonderland, horror films, and retro video games, Berrin creates a wonderland of her own.

Ahead of the record’s release on Friday, Berrin sat down with Uproxx to talk about FKA Twigs, being her own inspiration, how she makes a mean burger, and more in our latest Q&A.

What are four words you would use to describe your music?

Eclectic queer indie pop

It’s 2050 and the world hasn’t ended and people are still listening to your music. How would you like it to be remembered?

I hope they’re like “this holds up!”

Who’s the person who has most inspired your work, and why?

Right now I’m my inspiration. I started writing Mirror in a moment where my sense of self was tenuous at best; the only thing that helped was burrowing deeper into myself and taking the time to get back in touch with my own creative sensibilities again — I wanted to try to channel a version of myself from when I had no pretense attached to music. When I just loved making stuff.

Where did you eat the best meal of your life and what was it?

Churrasco steak with potatoes at a restaurant in Brooklyn called Tabare! They also make the best cocktail I’ve ever had – orange gin and fresh shredded strawberries with rosemary syrup.

Tell us about the best concert you’ve ever attended.

This is kinda cheating, but when we toured with Poppy and PVRIS, I watched both of their sets practically every night and was blown away. That was a really special run for all of us and I learned so much from it!

What song never fails to make you emotional?

“Cellophane” by FKA Twigs! I have to skip it every time it comes on or I’ll just start crying.

What’s the last thing you Googled?

Sabrina Carpenter “Bed Chem” lyrics

Where’s the weirdest place you’ve ever crashed while on tour?

We crashed on the floor of an art space in the Midwest that had a room full of mannequins and a trap door that led to a huge, concrete cellar – I slept with scissors under my pillow.

What’s your favorite city in the world to perform and what’s the city you hope to perform in for the first time?

There’s nothing like a hometown show – I love performing in New York. In the future I would really love to play in Tokyo.

What’s one piece of advice you’d go back in time to give to your 18-year-old self?

Oh god there’s so much. I’d probably start with “stop hanging out with people who make you feel bad.”

What’s one of your hidden talents?

I make a mean burger!

If you had a million dollars to donate to charity, what cause would you support and why?

I’d donate to Palestinian civilian aid. As a Jew, the ongoing apartheid and subsequent genocide of Palestinians seems completely antithetical to what I was raised believing. No human being deserves the kind of violence we’ve been witnessing over the past year, and I pray that a ceasefire is imminent.

What are your thoughts about AI and the future of music?

AI definitely poses a threat to artists on a commercial/financial/capitalistic level, but I don’t think it will ever truly replace artists. At the end of the day, creative expression is a human instinct.

You are throwing a music festival. Give us the dream lineup of 5 artists that will perform with you and the location it would be held.

I’d choose FKA Twigs, Beyoncé, Stevie Nicks, Sabrina Carpenter, and Princess Nokia – I’d probably hold it somewhere by the beach.

Who’s your favorite person to follow on social media?

Right now it’s KATSEYE!

What’s the story behind your first or favorite tattoo?

I have a Virgin Suicides tattoo on my left arm. There’s no story behind it, really I just love the movie.

Who was your first celebrity crush?

Sailor Jupiter!

You have a month off and the resources to take a dream vacation. Where are you going and who is coming with you?

I’d take my partner to Japan!

What is your biggest fear?

Heights!

Mirror Starts Moving Without Me is out 10/25 via City Slang. Find more information here.

Romy And Sampha’s Distinctive Voices Meld On Their Vulnerable New Single ‘I’m On Your Team’

We haven’t had official new music from The xx in a few years, but the group’s members have stayed busy. That includes Romy pressing forward with a solo career, and she has a new song out today, October 23: She teamed up with Sampha, who previously opened for The xx on early tours back in the day, on the stirring new song “I’m On Your Team.”

Romy says of the single, “It’s a love song but lyrically, it’s honest and truthful. Like ‘we’ve had the magic and dreaminess but now we’ve been through things together, so here we are and I’m putting in the work.’” Sampha adds “I love the idea of being part of a team, that you have to show up for each other, and from there you can create an even deeper connection.’ The evolving nature of a relationship crystalizes somewhere between the chorus of ‘And I hope the way I feel tonight, is the way I feel for life’ and the closing ‘I’m on your team, but I can’t always coach you.’”

The xx, meanwhile, recently had a sort of pseudo-reunion, when Romy and Oliver Sim both featured on one of Jamie xx’s new solo songs, “Waited All Night.”

Daniel Garcia Is Determined To Become Undeniable In AEW

49025636_PRESS---Daniel-Garcia-VS-The-Butcher_2024_06_29_AEW_Collision_001 copy
AEW

Daniel Garcia is quick to point out he’s not a fresh talent in AEW. He’s been in and out of prominent stories across his first three years in the company alongside some of the promotion’s biggest names, from Bryan Danielson to FTR and Chris Jericho. As new stars, like Kazuchika Okada, Will Ospreay, and Jay White have rotated into the company, it’s only become more difficult to separate from the pack and take the next step in becoming a true main event talent. At this stage in his career, Garcia is determined on becoming so utterly undeniable that it won’t matter who else is on the roster — there simply won’t be a question of whether he belongs in the the main event scene.

“We have such a roster where it fosters wanting to get better,” Garcia tells Uproxx Sports. “We have so many talented people coming all the time and I think it’s really on the talent to separate yourself and to show ‘You can sign whoever you want to sign, but I’m somebody unique. I’m somebody special, and I’m somebody that should be invested in as well.’”

That last part isn’t in question. Garcia’s put in the work to become a highly-touted talent, recently renewing his contract with AEW after agonizing over his decision for “basically a year.” In recent months, right up until he put pen to paper, rumors swirled with varying degrees of confidence where Garcia would end up.

“A lot of that stuff just made me laugh because I feel like I’m a super private person,” Garcia continues. “Nobody really had any information regarding anything involving me over the past few months. Anything that came out was just completely fabricated and I feel like anything that came out about my status was just completely fake because nobody knew anything about me.”

Ultimately, Garcia knew AEW was home and where he wanted to plant his flag.

“I kinda knew in my head most of the time — I figured AEW was the right place for me. It’s a place that I slot in really well at, it’s a place I’m happy, a place that I get a lot of opportunity already,” Garcia says. “I think AEW right now is just a place that I really believe in. You look around the locker room, there are people that I want to go to war with. We have a roster that motivates me to get better, to be a better wrestler, and a better performer.”

Developing a strong reputation, Garcia says, has taken him a long way. At times, it doesn’t matter as much about your in-ring abilities, rather if you can be someone that people want to work with. For Garcia, it’s exponentially easier to continue climbing the ladder when the locker room is in a strong position — something he admits wasn’t necessarily the case a few years ago.

“AEW’s obviously been through ups and downs over the past couple years of. Like you hear the rumors about the locker room and a lot of them are true. Like a lot of the times the locker room is going through trouble and turmoil and people are mad at each other,” Garcia says. “But, for the past year or so, I would say that we’ve been going through a really good upswing of positivity and everyone’s helping each other and it’s just a really good environment to be a part of.”

Support from a locker room dynamic can trickle into onscreen partnerships, and Garcia has been blessed to be paired with some of AEW’s veterans throughout his career. He says Jericho taught him not to be afraid to fail and to be comfortable trying new things. FTR taught him about the inner workings of professional wrestling from a locker room standpoint. Those lessons, he says, will stay with him forever. But as grateful as he is, there comes a time when he has to chart his own path.

“You have to find what works for you and you have to take the training wheels off and just, ride the bike for yourself,” Garcia says. “I feel like that’s what I’m doing right now. I feel like I’m somebody who, the training wheels just came off, I’m not paired up with any veteran, I’m doing it on my own, I feel like I’m really excited to see if I’m gonna keep riding the bike or if I’m gonna fall off.”

The journey here has come with ups and downs. Garcia says it’s been a roller coaster, where one month he’s on top of the world and it’s always a fight for his spot. He’s constantly looking for ways to stand out, to be unique, and to do things that haven’t been done before.

The most challenging part, he says, has been maintaining confidence and keeping the belief in himself.

“You just have to realize that in the downs, you have to believe in yourself just as much as you can in the ups,” Garcia says.

It’s that mindset that makes it easy to block out the noise. We’re in a day where most former pro wrestlers have a platform — whether it’s a podcast, a media network, or simply using their social presence to cause a stir. Garcia says he doesn’t want to name names specifically, but hopes one day to be creatively fulfilled and successful enough to not feel the need to go on a podcast every weekend and bad talk people who are trying to take the business further.

“I do think that there is a lot of positive influences in the wrestling world when it comes to wrestling media. I think Busted Open is a net positive for wrestling,” Garcis says.

“But then there’s other podcasts with people who are clearly just looking for clicks. Hating on AEW is a very popular thing and it gets people a lot of attention. And I feel like a lot of these things come from people who retired their jerseys. We never hung it in the rafters and we don’t even remember what their number was on their jerseys. A lot of those people are trying to get a new career off hating on AEW and hating on people who are trying to be successful. And it’s just, it’s sad to see, I hope I never have to go through that when I’m older.”

Instead, Garcia is giving energy to the upward trajectory in his career alongside Private Party. The tag team has been in AEW since the beginning and Garcia is a three-year veteran of the promotion, yet the trio feel fresh in their elevated roles. Since breaking out on his own, Garcia has been in programs with guys like MJF, and most recently Jack Perry. Private Party were unsuccessful against the Young Bucks in their tag team championship match at WrestleDream, but all three have retained positive momentum as a group that Tony Khan can build around.

“I think that just goes to show how hard it can be to break out at AEW because of the talent that we have on the roster,” Garcia says.

For Garcia and Private Party, the next step in continuing to progress their careers comes in Wednesday night’s tilt with the Bucks and Perry, where the trio will yet again have an opportunity to add to their impressive catalog of matches.

“Having a very impressive catalog of matches is something that I really take pride in,” Garcia says. “And I feel like every time I’m going to these matches, I’m just excited to keep adding to that catalog, keep adding to that resume of hopefully great professional wrestling matches.”

That perspective has been one Garcia has carried throughout his career, pointing back to his admiration of Danielson’s laundry list of in-ring classics, which he hopes to accomplish the same.

Having great matches is one thing. Having classics in prominent spots is another, and that’s top of mind as Garcia approaches this next phase in his career.

“I think the biggest thing for me in this next year is that I really wanna main event pay-per-views,” Garcia says. “I wanna prove that I can be a top guy. I feel like that’s what I’m ready for. I feel like that’s what I’ve been ready for. And that was my reason for staying at AEW. I wanna prove that I can be somebody that the company can build around, and I can be a top guy in this promotion.”

We’re Picking Winners For Week 8 Of The 2024 NFL Season

Alright, maybe the best way to approach this season is to simply fade the picks in this space? As always, it’s up to the reader.

At any rate, Week 7 was another mess for us and, quite honestly, it unfolded in on-brand fashion. There were punt return touchdowns, kick return touchdowns, untimely turnovers, and even bizarre roster decisions. The Browns inexplicably demoted Jameis Winston to their emergency quarterback before Week 7 and then Deshaun Watson got hurt and Winston couldn’t come in until Dorian Thompson-Robinson got hurt, which led to a one-point spread loss that could’ve broken differently. The Packers won by 2 while laying 2.5. The list goes on.

God bless Mike Tomlin as a home underdog, if nothing else.

Five more picks on the way, but first, a look at the carnage.

  • Week 7: 1-4
  • 2024 Season: 11-23-1

Come get these winners.

Los Angeles Rams (+3) over Minnesota Vikings – Widely Available

This is just a spot I have to take with the full 3 available in the market. The Rams are undervalued after a tough start, and Los Angeles is getting a little bit healthier with the projected return of Cooper Kupp. I also tend to favor home teams on the short week of Thursday night, and I’m probably a touch lower on Minnesota than the market is right now.

Cincinnati Bengals (-2.5) over Philadelphia Eagles – FanDuel/BetMGM

The Bengals are back to life after two straight wins, even as their offense floundered a bit. I’m generally a believer in Cincinnati to right the ship, and if they can pair this defensive uptick with a return to their early-season offensive form, there is a lot to like. I’m grabbing the 2.5 while it’s available and projecting this to close 3 in many places. Lay it.

Cleveland Browns (+9.5) over Baltimore Ravens – FanDuel

It gives me no pleasure to back the Browns again this week. However, I was impressed with Cleveland’s defense against Cincinnati, and Jameis Winston is a meaningful upgrade on either 2024 Deshaun Watson or Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Give me the candy.

Miami Dolphins (-3) over Arizona Cardinals – DraftKings/ESPNBet

With Tua back in the fold, I think this number should be bigger than 3. Of course there is uncertainty about how he’ll perform but, when Tua has been on the field, the gap between him and the backup quarterback brigade for the Dolphins has been sizable. This is also a small fade of Arizona after two wins in the last three weeks.

Las Vegas Raiders (+10) over Kansas City Chiefs – Widely Available

I don’t want to talk about it, but I simply must take the double-digit number on Las Vegas at home. The total is currently sitting at 41. The Chiefs haven’t exactly been explosive offensively. Kansas City should win, but we maintain our principles.
