Have SZA And Lakieth Stanfield Worked Together Before?

SZA has been meticulous about “Shirt,” her forthcoming single that fans have been clamoring for since she first performed it in July 2021. The track was rumored to have an October 14 release date, which SZA confirmed while headlining Austin City Limits, saying, “It didn’t come out because I looked at the video, and I was stressed at one small thing in the video. But I fixed that, and it’s turned in and about to come out.” Then, “Shirt” appeared and just as quickly disappeared from Spotify last week. And now, “Shirt” and its video are coming tomorrow (October 28).

All of this is to say, LaKeith Stanfield’s casting in the Dave Meyers-directed “Shirt” video was no accident.

SZA dropped a 27-second trailer yesterday, which finds her and Stanfield sitting opposite each other in a restaurant booth. “Energy’s everything,” SZA says. Stanfield picks up salt shakers and touches the table, which SZA confirms are also rooted in energy. “You and me?” he asks, but the weighted moment in interrupted by the guy sitting next to him. Stanfield slaps him upside the head, and the trailer ends with SZA shooting him in the face.

The Atlanta and Oscar-nominated Judas And The Black Messiah actor previously starred in SZA’s “I Hate U” visualizer in January. Stanfield pulled up to the coast on an ominously foggy day, screaming into his phone and walking down to the beach to smoke off his frustrations. It doesn’t work. He pulls out his phone, sees text from SZA saying “I hate u” and throws it into the ocean. Between the two videos, it’s clear SZA and Stanfield have perfected how to portray volatility.

Watch the “Shirt” teaser above.

“Shirt” is out 10/28 via Top Dawg Entertainment and RCA. Pre-save it here.

Here Are All The Details To Know (So Far) About The Upcoming ‘Community’ Movie

It’s been a few years of “well they/won’t they” when it comes to the Community movie. A film based on the series was promised to fans all the way back in season two with a throwaway line that became a frequent callback throughout the series. But, after ending in 2015, it seemed like creator Dan Harmon had lost some momentum. Even though the cast and crew would often speculate about a potential feature, it never came to light. Until NOW! Creator Dan Harmon officially announced the movie last month, so, here is everything we know about #SixSeasonAndAMovie.

After a virtual table read in 2020, the cast has been open about the desire to move forward with the #sixseasonsandamovie prophecy. At first, it looked like Netflix, where the show is currently a huge hit, would snag the rights to a potential movie, but NBC’s Peacock seems to have outbid the streamer earlier this year.

While the movie has been confirmed, there have been no plot details or release dates in mind. We know that Harmon is on board to write, but no director has been attached yet. Assuming they film sometime in early 2023, fans might have a Community movie as early as next fall, but it will likely be later.

As for which stars will return, it seems like almost everyone is on board besides Chevy Chase — Harmon joked that he didn’t know if that would be “legal” for the actor to return. He was famously written out of the final season. Yvette Nicole Brown has said that all of the actors who want to return should be able to, “Every day it’s getting closer to coming to fruition,” she told E! last month. “Do I know when? I do not. Do I know whether everybody’s schedule is going to line up at the right time to make it happen in a time that’ll make everybody happy? I don’t know that, either. But I do know that everybody has the desire to take part, and that’s half the battle.”

Of course, all eyes are on Donald Glover, one of the show’s breakout actors, who also left before the final season. Harmon believes that he will be returning to Greendale Community College, despite no official announcement. “I think that Donald is coming, based on word of mouth, but it’s just the deal isn’t official or wasn’t official,” Harmon told Variety. “It would be difficult to really commit to doing this thing without Donald. So I believe he is coming back.” This is all fine and great, but let’s get to the real question: is Jonathan Banks returning to campus?

Harvey Weinstein’s Lawyers Just Spent Days Grilling One Of The Studio Mogul’s Alleged Victims About His Bizarre Testicles Situation

While more than 80 women have come forward to accuse Harvey Weinstein of a range of sexually-motivated crimes, from harassment to rape, the disgraced media mogul (who apparently smells like poop) has maintained that all of his sexual encounters have been consensual — and now it’s up to his lawyers to keep running with that narrative. And if their treatment of Jane Doe #1, the first woman to be questioned in Weinstein’s Los Angeles trial, is any indication, things are bound to get nasty.

As Variety reported, the victim in question became understandably emotional during her testimony. “Through tears and sometimes uncontrollable deep breaths, the woman told the jury how Weinstein forced her to perform oral sex on him, groped her, pulled her hair, bent her over a sink and raped her, all after he had barged into her hotel room unannounced,” wrote Elizabeth Wagmeister for Variety.

The real surprise, however, came when Weinstein’s team whipped out its smoking gun which, in this case, was their client’s mangled testicles. Yes, part of Team Weinstein’s defense seems to be that some of the forced sex acts being alleged would be impossible, due to the fact that Harvey literally has no balls.

During his opening statement, prosecutor Paul Thompson noted Weinstein’s abnormal anatomy. “Because of an infection,” Thompson said, “his testicles were actually taken from his scrotum and put into his inner thighs.”

Weinstein’s lawyers are now using their client’s bizarre ballsack situation to try and paint at least Jane Doe #1 as a liar. They pounced upon her testimony that Weinstein had forced her to “suck him and suck his balls.” According to Variety:

When Jackson cross-examined Jane Doe #1, he questioned how she could have reported to the police that “his balls were in your mouth” — emphasizing the plural word she used — if Weinstein does not have testicles.

“The reason that you changed your story is because you realized at some point that Mr. Weinstein does not have testicles in his scrotum,” Jackson said to Jane Doe #1 on the stand. She disagreed with that statement and testified that she never changed her story, always telling detectives that Weinstein had abnormal genitalia. “I recall that he didn’t have one,” she said. “It was like empty skin.”

But Weinstein’s missing nuts weren’t the only bizarre piece of “evidence” his team brought up. After questioning why the victim would stay in Los Angeles, or in the hotel room in which she had claimed to be assaulted, they showed posts from her social media pages to make the point that she was living la dolce vita in the days following the alleged attack. They pulled images from her Facebook and Instagram accounts that showed her smiling and seemingly happy-looking, and were particularly interested in a photo she posted in which she’s posing with Al Pacino.

“I was trying to deny to myself that this happened to me,” she responded. “My public life is part of my job.”

Jane Doe #1 spent three days on the stand, and is the first alleged victim to testify in the trial. More women are expected to testify about their allegedly violent encounters with Weinstein, who is facing four counts of rape and forcible oral copulation, one count of sexual penetration by use of force, sexual battery by restraint, and sexual battery. The accusations were made by five women and cover a nine-year period in Los Angeles.

A contest for the ‘worst science stock photo’ has taken the internet by storm

Stock photos of any job are usually delightful cringey. Sure, sometimes they sort of get the essence of a job, but a lot of the time the interpretation is downright cartoonish. One glance and it becomes abundantly clear that for some careers, we have no freakin’ clue what it is that people do.

Dr. Kit Chapman, an award-winning science journalist and academic at Falmouth University in the U.K., recently held an impromptu contest on Twitter where viewers could vote on which photos were the best of the worst when it came to jobs in scientific fields.

According to Chapman’s entries, a day in the life of a scientist includes poking syringes into chickens, wearing a lab coat (unless you’re a “sexy” scientist, then you wear lingerie) and holding vials of colored liquid. Lots and lots of vials.

Of course, where each image is 100% inaccurate, they are 100% giggle inducing. Take a look below at some of the contenders.

Chapman’s unofficial photo competition received nearly 500,000 votes cast throughout four rounds. The grand prize winner was a photo of a female scientist holding a soldering iron (very much not in the right way) as she is “working” on some kind of electrical board.

It’s titled, “Hold My Soldering Iron.”

“I mean there’s the obvious thing that she’ll burn her hand, but nobody ever talks about how she’s ‘soldering’ the wrong side of the board,” one person quipped.

Of course, “Talk to Us, Dr. Chicken” was also popular.

Clearly using the scientific method to figure out why exactly Dr. Chicken crossed the road.

But not as popular as “Syringe Chicken,” where, for some reason, a scientist covered in a mask and safety goggles inspects a raw, syringe-filled chicken with his teeny tiny magnifying glass. For science!

This one was the winner of the second-to-last batch.

Ever wonder where space is? Don’t worry, leave it to the professionals to point the way.

“To space!” Chapman captioned.

Speaking of professionals, everyone dresses for research this way, right?

Chapman titled this “Science: It’s a Girl Thing.”

People were quick to chime in with their own contributions, including:

“Woman Brain Surgeon”

Otherwise known as a jello mechanic.

And some kind of … corn scientist? From the future?

Why does this seem like it belongs in an Annie Lennox music video?

As well as a group of scientists that belong in a Marvel movie for their ability to manipulate atoms.

While these are certainly not an accurate depiction of the vast and wondrous world of scientific research, it did cause many a scientist to share a giggle. So no harm, no foul. Not even to chickens.

Jimmy Fallon asked people to share their best last-minute Halloween costume ideas

Most of us have been there—receiving a last-minute invite to some type of Halloween shindig, only to find ourselves without a costume. Maybe it’s due to being too busy to buy one, or from being habitual procrastinators, or maybe we initially felt a bit of holiday malaise and assumed we’d spend spooky season on the couch with Netflix instead of socializing. Whatever the reason—occasionally life forces us to get a little resourceful.

The great thing is—sometimes having to scramble makes for some truly out-of-the-box ideas, whether that’s a bonkers hodgepodge of whatever recycled costumes can be found in the closet or the use of household items and some really clever wordplay. Either way, it brings out the delightfully playful spirit of Halloween.

“Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon asked folks to share their own “last minute Halloween costumes” and you really can’t help but applaud the creativity that arises out of sheer desperation.

He even had his own to share, one that was quite brilliant:

One year I forgot a Halloween costume so I just spent the whole night holding on to the bathroom door and told everyone I was Jack from Titanic.

Below are some equally hilarious last-ditch efforts that became unexpected showstoppers. It might give you a ghoulish giggle and remind you that fun can be had even when cutting two holes into a sheet and pretending to be a ghost.

Now that’s creative. And tasty.

Talk about working with what you’ve got.

When a last-minute costume doesn’t wash off…

Well this is pretty much the sweetest thing ever.

They’re going the distance…

A traffic witch!

“Ghosts” is a British and American sitcom that features charming spirits of different decades. “Guardians of the Galaxy” is a Marvel comic book and movie series about a rogue group of space travelers. It’s practically the same show.

I bet the students loved it.

Agent Sparkles, reporting for duty.

The likeness is uncanny.

When your costume becomes your destiny.

Who doesn’t have an aunt that fits this bill?

The Expertise Of Several ‘Expert’ Witnesses Rudy Giuliani Wants To Testify On His Behalf Is Being Questioned

Before he was the Mayor of New York City, Donald Trump’s lapdog, or the pathetic man whose head sprung a leak in the midst of a press conference, Rudy Giuliani was a lawyer. And up until he became a personal lawyer to then-president Trump, he still was a lawyer. But Rudy’s willingness to coddle Trump’s fragile ego at all costs — including, but not limited to, allegedly encouraging Trump to just claim victory in the 2020 presidential election (which he lost) and helping the former president try to convince the world that the election (which, again, he lost) was rigged.

While Trump has, at least for the moment, managed to escape any long-term damage for his attempts to change the results of a perfectly legitimate presidential election and incite a riot to overturn democracy as we know it, Rudy hasn’t been so lucky. At the moment, the disgraced former lawyer — who has had his license to practice law revoked in both New York and Washington, D.C. — is scheduled to go before the District of Columbia’s Office of Disciplinary Counsel for a hearing in early December to defend himself against legal ethics violations.

As Bloomberg reports, the ex-lawyer’s lawyers are planning to call as many as 16 witnesses (Rudy among them) to testify that Giuliani did nothing wrong. While Team Rudy is only allowed to call expert witnesses at this stage of the game, the Office of Disciplinary Counsel isn’t buying that nearly a third of the names Rudy’s lawyers have submitted qualify as actual “experts” in the matters they’re scheduled to discuss.

The office is objecting to five names on Rudy’s list of potential witnesses, as they say that Giuliani’s lawyers failed to provide the necessary paperwork to confirm these people as “experts.” As Zoe Tillman writes for Bloomberg:

Giuliani’s witness list features Trump allies who boosted election denial claims. His lawyers offered short summaries of what each person would testify about, noting some who would discuss “voting irregularities” and “alleged illegalities.” There has been no evidence of widespread fraud in the election and dozens of courts rejected challenges to President Joe Biden’s wins in key states, including Pennsylvania.

Expert testimony typically gets greater weight in legal proceedings. Courts — or, in this case, a special committee that hears evidence in attorney discipline cases and makes recommendations — require parties to prove an expert’s qualifications. Experts typically prepare written reports about what they plan to testify about, and the opposing side can review that and challenge their expertise.

Bloomberg cites former Trump adviser Peter Navarro as one of the witnesses who has raised a red flag. Earlier this month, The Guardian reported that Giuliani was attempting to recruit a whole slew of the most infamous Trump election deniers, including Navarro, Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano, kooky Trump campaign lawyer Jenna Ellis (who may or may not have inhaled one of Rudy’s farts), and former Trump campaign manager/disgraced MAGA stooge Corey Lewandowski.

Retired judges John Leventhal and Barry Kamins, who are serving as Giuliani’s lawyers, did not respond to Bloomberg with a comment on the story.

Horsegirl Cover The Minutemen’s ‘History Lesson Part 2,’ Which Is Their ‘Punk Manifesto’

Horsegirl pleased the indie world with the release of their debut album, Versions Of Modern Performance, earlier this year. Since then, they’ve been promoting the LP with shows, including an opening slot for Pavement in New York. Today they’re back with a cover of the Minutemen’s “History Lesson Part 2.”

It’s hard to take on a song by the Minutemen — they’re already so idiosyncratic and distinct on their own. But Horsegirl nails the vivacious riffs and deadpan vocals that are made all the more compelling with amusing harmonies. “‘History Lesson Part 2’ has always been a punk manifesto for us,” the band shared in a statement. “It was an unusual pick to cover considering the lyrics are so specific to Minutemen, but we thought there was something appealing too about recording a ‘History Lesson’ that doesn’t actually give you any history on us.”

In our interview with Horsegirl, they discussed what inspired them to form a band. “When we were young underclassmen in high school, the older kids would have their own DIY thing going,” Penelope Lowenstein recalled. “If we didn’t grow up in a place where we would see kids booking their own shows, hosting their own events, and starting their own bands, it never would have seemed like a possible thing to do when we were younger.”

Will Paul Mescal And Phoebe Bridgers Make Music Together?

Paul Mescal and Phoebe Bridgers are a powerful enough power couple to cause an internet meltdown over the off-chance that they were engaged. The Irish actor and acclaimed musician haven’t really confirmed nor denied, other than Bridgers telling The Guardian, “F*ck the f*cking tabloids to hell.” But we now know whether the couple will ever collaborate on music.

“No, I feel like I’m too much of a fan to broach the idea of attempting that,” Mescal told Ilana Kaplan for GQ. “I’ll leave her to writing amazing songs, and I’ll just stick to the acting for the time being.”

The interview mostly centered around Mescal’s first-ever leading role in Aftersun, an A24 drama about a father-daughter vacation to Turkey with plenty of emotional subtext. Mescal’s answer about collaborating with Bridgers is on par with what he said about karaoke earlier in the interview. “I would avoid karaoke,” the Normal People star said. “It’s a strong ‘no’ for me. All karaoke is in the bin. I don’t know if I’m the right guy for the job. I would prefer to be sick if I know my friends are doing karaoke.”

Bridgers and Mescal have been linked since May 2020, when Bridgers fired a flirty tweet about watching Mescal in Normal People.

By that December, Mescal was in Bridgers’ video for “Savior Complex,” but they didn’t make their red carpet debut until November 2021 at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles and didn’t make it Instagram official until the following month.

Bridgers was unveiled as the October/November Teen Vogue cover star yesterday (October 26), and writer Lexi McMenamin noted they didn’t ask Bridgers about Mescal because “she’s expressed discomfort with the attention on their relationship.”

Ice-T Celebrates 21 Years As Law & Order’s Fin Tutuola: ‘Don’t Tell Me What Can’t Be Done’

Ice-T has graced our television screens for more than twenty years as the witty but tough Sergeant Fin Tutuola. The rapper recently celebrated his achievement, saying he’s one of the “longest-running male actors on tv,” in a post on Twitter.
The 64-year-old Westcoast rapper found early success with minor roles — such as 1980’s Breakin’ and its subsequent sequel — before landing a significant leading role in 1991’s New Jack City. He would later switch to the small screen, appearing as Sergeant Fin Tutuola in the Law & Order spinoff series Law & Order: SVU.

“Longest running male actor in TV History,” he wrote on Tuesday. “Don’t tell me what CANT be done.”

The rapper isn’t the only one making history. Law & Order: SVU recently broke a record as the longest-running live-action primetime TV series in U.S. history, eclipsing both NBC’s Law & Order (ending in 2010) and CBS’ Gunsmoke (ending in 1975).

After news broke that Kelli Giddish, who portrays Detective Rollins, would be leaving the series, word started spreading that it may be the same fate for Ice-T. Luckily for us, Ice-T said he has no plans of leaving the series anytime soon.

“FYI. People think I’m leaving SVU every time I do something else. Do they not understand I’ve got 20 Jobs! Simultaneously,” he tweeted back in August.

Kevin Feige Has Nothing But Respect For James Gunn Becoming The Kevin Feige Of DC Studios

In the midst of getting its DC Comics franchise in shape to go toe-to-toe with Marvel Studios, Warner Bros. Discovery made the surprise announcement that James Gunn will become the new co-CEO (alongside Peter Safran) of DC Studios. Gunn has been working for the studio since 2018 when he was hired and then rehired to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. During his time at DC, he has directed The Suicide Squad and the hit spinoff series Peacemaker. He also reportedly has a few secret projects in the works, so it’s clear that DC is all about Gunn and have now taken the next step of making him the Kevin Feige of its cinematic universe.

As for how the real Feige is taking the news, he has nothing but love for Gunn. While walking the red carpet for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Feige gave Gunn his blessing as he takes the rein of the Distinguished Competition. (That’s nerd talk for DC.)

Via The Hollywood Reporter:

“I speak to James almost every day. We have a wonderful thing called the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming out. We have a wonderful thing called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming out in May,” Marvel chief Kevin Feige told The Hollywood Reporter about whether or not he’s spoken to Gunn since the news broke. “How he’ll have any time to work on DC until May I don’t know, but once he does have the time I’ll be very excited. I’ll be first in line.”

As Feige notes, there will be some overlap between Gunn’s last days at Marvel and his new job at DC. That awkwardness was fully felt when the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special trailer dropped just hours before the announcement that Gunn is jumping ship for DC Studios. It’ll make for an interesting promotional tour for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, that’s for sure.
