Travis Kelce’s sudden uptick in acting roles has peaked others curiosity. While fans of the Kansas City Chiefs are worried that it could by Kelce’s subtle way of tip-toeing into retirements, others credit it to romantic nepotism.
Travis Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift is sure to come with a few perks (including the Swifities’ unwavering love). However, users online speculate that it has boosted the number of acting roles Kelce has been able to secure. But White Men Can’t Jump actor Sinqua Walls argued otherwise during a recent run-in with TMZ.
When asked about Kelce’s onscreen work, Walls replied: “I think that what we’ve seen over the last few years of Travis is that he has a natural, innate charisma and personality. I feel like if you can translate that into your role as an actor — if you can try and channel it, then it’ll be good.”
As for if Taylor Swift’s superstar status had any impact on the gigs, Walls presented another theory. “Nah, he’s a champion,” he said. “Over the last few years that man has won so many championships with him and [Patrick] Mahomes. They’ve been growing together, they both have built a bigger profile. I think with that comes more exposure and more opportunities, which it should.”
Walls then doubled down on his stance, saying: “Like I said, it’s not impossible for an athlete to transition into being a good actor. It’s totally possible.”
While Walls has shared the screen with Jack Harlow another entertainer who recently transitioned into acting from another industry. So, his opinion does carry some weight. However, The conversation was actually prompted by a billboard for the TV series, Grotesquerie, in which Kelce appears.
All year, we have hoped that we would get a playoff rematch of last year’s WNBA Finals between the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces. New York has looked like a team on a mission this year, earning the WNBA’s top seed during the regular season, but to erase the bitterness of how last year ended, they needed to exact some revenge on Vegas.
While it wasn’t a Finals showdown as many expected coming into the year, the two teams squared off in Game 1 of their semifinals series on Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn, and the Liberty sent a clear message that this year is going to be, at the very least, an even bigger challenge. The Liberty came out hot, with Breanna Stewart leading the way as they took a 28-21 lead after the first quarter, and by the mid-third they had extended that advantage to 18 points. Vegas would chip away to cut the deficit back to single digits, with Kelsey Plum leading the charge, but ultimately New York cruised to an 87-77 win.
Stewart finished the game with 34 points as she was simply dominant as a scorer, going 12-of-19 from the field and getting to her spots with ease.
20 PTS AT THE HALF?!
Breanna Stewart is on a rampage and ready to keep it going in Game 1:
Providing support for Stewie was Sabrina Ionescu, who came up with some big shots in the fourth quarter to keep the Aces at arm’s length as she went for 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting.
Sabrina Ionescu DROPS a DEEP logo three, igniting the arena
However, the Aces just didn’t have enough on either end on Sunday to really threaten the Liberty. A’ja Wilson added 21 points and Jackie Young had 17, but they could not get the stops needed to fully reel in New York, who shot 50 percent from the field and 42 percent from three as a team in the win. The question going into Game 2 on Tuesday night is what can the Aces do to create some problems for this Liberty offense and keep them out of rhythm. The offense certainly could be a bit better for Las Vegas (28 percent from three isn’t cutting it), but New York seemed able to get a good shot just about whenever they wanted it, which is not usually what happens to this Aces defense. Figuring out how to disrupt Ionescu and Stewart and make them work harder to get to their spots is a must for Vegas to even this series up before it shifts West, while the Liberty will be hoping to carry this same feeling into Tuesday night.
The Kansas City Chiefs have picked up where they left off last season after winning their third championship of this decade. Patrick Mahomes and company have needed some late game luck, but they’ve managed to get off to a 3-0 start and have looked once again like the team to beat in the AFC.
As many have discussed, their passing attack has not been led by the traditional Mahomes to Travis Kelce attack, as the star tight end has been limited in the passing game this season, but instead it’s been Rashee Rice leading the way in the receiving game. Rice entered this week with 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns over the first three weeks of the season, carrying a heavy load in the Chiefs passing attack.
Unfortunately, on Sunday the Chiefs saw disaster strike when Rice got injured and had to be carted off the field after some friendly fire on an interception return. Rice chased down a Chargers defender and helped strip him as numerous Chiefs converged to make a tackle. In the process, Mahomes was coming in low trying to assist with the tackle but missed the defender and crashed into Rice’s leg.
Rice would get carted off after being helped to the bench as he was unable to put weight on his leg, per the CBS broadcast. He was officially listed as questionable to return, but there is serious concern for the Chiefs if Rice’s injury is severe. Without Rice, they’ll really need Kelce (and the other tight ends) to get more involved, while first round pick Xavier Worthy and the rest of the Chiefs receiving corps will need to find ways to be more impactful.
Charli XCX’s Brat movement refuses to die down. Yesterday (September 28), during Saturday Night Live‘s season premiere the show’s writers put their own spin on it. In a comical talk show sketch, Bowen Yang channelled the “365” singer to tackle the biggest political headlines.
In a lighting round, Yang declared Hunter Biden’s laptop “brat,” Mark Robinson’s search history “nat.” Barron Trump going to NYU “brat,” but NYU as an institution “nat.” Then Yang decided on the fates of Amy Adams’ performance in Nightb*tch, which he crowned “brat.” Unsurprisingly, Yang marked Eric Adams’ indictment a flat out “nat.”
Charli XCX wasn’t the only musician present in spirit through the sketch, her Sweat Tour co-headliner Troye Sivan appeared by way of Sarah Sherman’s portrayal.
Although Jean Smart (playing “queer nightlife icon” Susanne Bartsch) and Chloe Fineman (playing “hetero CNN icon” Kaitlan Collins) were also featured in the sketch, it was Ego Nwodim that stole the sketch.
Nwodim delivered a hilarious portrayal of “bad girl of C-SPAN” Representative Jasmine Crockett. Nwodim rattled off alliterated insults aimed at everyone including Vice President hopeful JD Vance.

The rematch of the 2023 WNBA Finals between the Aces and Liberty that everyone hoped we would get to see arrived a series earlier than most expected, but on Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn the two teams met in Game 1 of their semifinals series.
The Liberty came out hot, led by Breanna Stewart who had it rolling in the first quarter to lead New York to a 28-21 advantage after the first 10 minutes, and would eventually stretch that lead out to 18 in the third quarter. However, the two-time defending champs weren’t put away that easily, as they would charge back to cut the deficit back to single digits with a 14-2 run, with Kelsey Plum scoring 12 in the third to lead the way.
Plum wasn’t just trying to kickstart the Aces offense with her shooting, but she also was looking to get her team going emotionally as well. As has happened in NBA playoff series in New York across town in Manhattan, a familiar face got involved from courtside to add to the juice on the floor, as Plum got into it with Spike Lee as the two jawed at each other.
Spike is going to be Spike, and he’s never afraid to get into a back-and-forth with a player. The same can be said for Plum, who dishes out trash talk with the best of them in the W, so this felt like an inevitability. It’s all part of the fun of the playoffs in New York, even if Spike has to get seats in Brooklyn rather than Manhattan.
When Tom Brady decided to leave the Patriots after the 2019 season, every team that thought they were one quarterback away from being a contender was interested in his services. Ultimately, he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which proved to be a pretty good decision as he won another Super Bowl in that 2020 season.
On Sunday, Brady made his first trip back to Tampa since his retirement in 2023 to call a Bucs blowout win of the Eagles, and brought with him the criteria he used to make his decision. As he explained, he had 18 criteria on his list for choosing his next team, from salary to weather to how good the team was. While Tampa won out, he said a team no one knew was really close to landing him was the Chicago Bears, which was certainly news to Bears fans.
The Bears at the time had a dominant defense but were being quarterbacked by Mitchell Trubisky, so Brady would’ve been a pretty considerable upgrade at that spot. I’m not sure if this makes Bears fans feel better or worse that they were a runner-up in the Brady sweepstakes, but it was an interesting little “what if” tidbit from the GOAT.
While singing her song “Agora Hills,” Doja Cat flashed her bare ringing then said, “I’m not married.”
This marked the second time Doja Cat brushed off self-inflicted rumors that the two were ready to or had already walked down the aisle.
On September 21, Doja Cat initiated the rumor by flashing a ring during her set at iHeart Radio Festival 2024. However, shortly after fans began to congratulate the rumored couple. In a now deleted upload onto X (captured by Pop Crave, viewable here), Doja Cat wrote: “No, I’m not engaged. Its. David Yurman ring with no rocks in it.”
After supposedly getting together back in August (no, thanks to Joseph Quinn’s Stranger Things co-star Noah Schnapp), fans have rooting for the pair. Neither have confirmed that they are indeed a romantic item. However, that did not stop Doja Cat and Joseph Quinn from gallivanting around Europe hand in hand following the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Yesterday (September 28), Uproxx cover star Muna dedicated one slice of their set to Chappell. In lieu of her absence, Muna performed a cover of Chappell Roan’s breakout single, “Good Luck, Babe!” (viewable here). Although this isn’t the first time another musician sang the tune (hi, fellow Uproxx cover star Jonas Brothers), Muna’s take touched Chappell Roan fans in the crowd given her recent decision to bow out of the festival.
In a note, Chappell Roan outlined her need for a break to tend to her health. Read her full statement below.
I apologize to people who have been waiting to see me in NYC & DC this weekend at All Things Go, but I am unable to perform. Things have gotten overwhelming over the past few weeks, and I am really feeling it.
I feel pressures to prioritize a lot of things right now, and I need a few days to prioritize my health. I want to be present when I perform and give the best shows possible. Thank you for understanding.
Sabrina Carpenter may be short and sweet, but apparently the pop star has a heavy impact in federal meeting rooms. According to the New York Post, the “Please Please Please” singer might have been the jumping point for New York City’s Mayor Eric Adams‘ recent indictment (wire fraud, one count of conspiracy, two counts of solicitation of a contribution from a foreign national and one count of bribery).
In the outlet’s report, it alleged that following Sabrina Carpenter’s “Feather” music video saga, Reverend Monsignor Jamie J. Gigantiello of Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn (the church featured in Carpenter’s video) was eventually subpoenaed regarding his business dealings. Investigators then learned that he was allegedly connected to Adams’ former chief of staff Frank Carone.
When asked about the relationship Brooklyn Diocese officials tried to avoid implicating him further, saying: “It would be inappropriate to comment further on that review, which is still ongoing.”
However, the individual didn’t seem to deny that it could be some truth to the connection between Gigantiello and Carone. “The Diocese is fully committed to cooperating with law enforcement in all investigations,” they said. “Including conduct at individual parishes or involving any priest.”
The statement does not validate that Sabrina Carpenter’s video led to the investigation, fans have playfully dubbed her the savior of New York City.
“Oh, Sabrina saving pop music and the real world,” wrote one user.
“Sabrina Carpenter saved New York,” joked another.
For the fun of it, watch Sabrina Carpenter’s music video for “Feather” above.
JAG spin off NCIS (that’s right) is currently going strong through its 22nd season. Many special agents and forensic scientists have come and gone, and the flagship series has spawned several location-based spin offs (including New Orleans, Los Angeles, and Sydney). Most recently, CBS cancelled NCIS: Hawai’iafter a cliffhanger, but that does not signal danger for the overall ship since two more spin offs are coming.
CBS and Paramount+ will soon debut NCIS: Origins to travel back in time when Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon) had recently left his U.S. Marines sniper career to investigate naval crimes. In the present, the other spin off will follow Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) after their characters left NCIS under separate yet connected circumstances years ago. There’s a lot of history there, both romantic and professional, so let’s piece together some clues on what we can expect from NCIS: Tony And Ziva.
Cast
Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly will bring their chemistry back across the pond as Ziva and Tony, and their daughter, Tali, will be portrayed by Emelia Golfieri. They will be joined by a cast of at least eight regulars to portray various Interpol officials, intelligence agents, employees from Tony’s company, and a master hacker. Those actors include James D’Arcy, Isla Gie, Maximilian Osinski, Nassima Benchicou, Julian Ovenden, Amita Suman, Terence Maynard, and Lara Rossi.
Plot
The two new spin offs were both announced back in February with NCIS: Origins coming together incredibly fast for an October premiere. NCIS: Tony and Ziva, however, sounds like a more complicated production, beginning with the filming location: Budapest. This spin off’s story, however, is based in Paris, so why is production taking place in Hungary and not France? For starters, the recent Olympics were taking up a bit of space, and perhaps the TV gods also didn’t want Ziva and Tony stealing thunder from Emily In Paris and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
(I’m half joking about that last sentence but can you imagine Ziva pulling out the knives and martial arts on walkers? She’d somehow be as powerful as Daryl with a rocket launcher in his arms and a crossbow on his back.)
NCIS devotees know that this show reunites Ziva and Tony after he had believed she was dead (he was shown crying in the aftermath) in Season 13. Tony soon left the scene to raise Tali himself, but as it turns out, Ziva faked her death, as it was revealed years later. Fast forward to now, and Weatherly and de Pablo have been almost too happy to be back together when filming began in early July. To that end, they promised (via a Paramount statement) that “[t]he world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears and laughter.”
What has Tony been doing for all this time? Beyond staying abreast of endless movie trivia, he’s been running a security company in France, and that relative peace gets shattered, according to the Paramount description:
When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so that they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.
They will, however, have at least some difficulty reaching “happily ever after” because, as de Pablo told Variety, they will have mega-trust issues, which is only to be expected when a partner fakes their death. Geez:
“I think the idea of trust, and the idea of how this relationship moves forward is something that was intriguing to us as actors. We’re trying to address the idea of trust and we’re trying to address how they move forward parenting together with this child and trying to make things work and having a lot of challenges thrown at them.”
No more death faking, Ziva. DiNozzo’s heart can only take so much. 🙁
Release Date
CBS has revealed that NCIS will premiere on Oct. 14 with a two-hour premiere. That spin off will also stream on Paramount+, which is actually where NCIS: Tony And Ziva will primarily live, rather than CBS. At this time, this international spin off doesn’t have a publicized release date, but plan on 2025.
Trailer
Michael Weatherly hasn’t excitedly taken to Instagram (yet) to post a trailer himself, but he has probably already cut one in his mind. Paramount+ is keeping new footage top secret, so we will have to make do with a compilation of Ziva putting her Mossad training to good use:
