Jeff Tweedy Heralds A Massive New Solo Triple Album With A Four-Pack Of Fresh Songs

Wilco leader Jeff Tweedy has had a bit of a gap since his latest solo album, 2020’s Love Is The King. He’s about to make up for it in a big way: Today (July 15), he announced Twilight Override, which isn’t a single album, or even a double album, but a triple album.

He also shared a four-pack of new songs: “One Tiny Flower,” “Out In The Dark,” “Stray Cats In Spain,” and “Enough.” He has an extensive solo tour launching this fall, too (on top of Wilco’s upcoming dates).

In a statement, Tweedy says:

“When you choose to do creative things, you align yourself with something that other people call God. And when you align yourself with creation, you inherently take a side against destruction. You’re on the side of creation. And that does a lot to quell the impulse to destroy. Creativity eats darkness.

Sort of an endless buffet these days—a bottomless basket of rock bottom. Which is, I guess, why I’ve been making so much stuff lately. That sense of decline is hard to ignore, and it must be at least a part of the shroud I’m trying to unwrap. The twilight of an empire seems like a good enough jumping-off point when one is jumping into the abyss.

Twilight sure is a pretty word, though. And the world is full of happy people in former empires, so maybe that’s not the only source of this dissonance. Whatever it is out there (or in there) squeezing this ennui into my day, it’s f*cking overwhelming. It’s difficult to ignore. Twilight Override is my effort to overwhelm it right back. Here are the songs and sounds and voices and guitars and words that are an effort to let go of some of the heaviness and up the wattage on my own light. My effort to engulf this encroaching nighttime (nightmare) of the soul.”

Listen to the new songs above and find that Twilight Override cover art and tracklist below, as well as Tweedy’s upcoming tour dates.

King Princess Goes After Fake Friends And Queer-Baiters On The New Single ‘Cry Cry Cry’

Mikaela Straus is starring in the new season of Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers at the moment, but she also has a new King Princess album to roll out. She announced Girl Violence and shared the lead single “RIP KP” in June, and now she has another single out now, “Cry Cry Cry.”

Straus says of the song, “‘Cry Cry Cry’” is about a friendship with a lady that did not work out. Sometimes two divas create an explosion.”

She previously said of the album:

“Girl violence is very sneaky. It’s not physical, it’s deeply emotional, spiritual, and spooky. Women are both amazing and sinister — including myself — and it’s my curiosity to understand all the love, loss, and changes that come out of my love for women. Why are we so inclined to cause and receive chaos? If you’ve experienced even an iota of it, then you’ll have a story to tell. And these are mine.”

Water From Your Eyes Are Ready To Dance On Their Infectious New Single ‘Playing Classics’

Water From Your Eyes, the duo of Nate Amos and Rachel Brown, announced their upcoming album It’s A Beautiful Place recently and shared the lead single “Life Signs.” As the project approaches its August release, the two have offered another preview, the infectiously fun “Playing Classics.”

Amos says of the song, “Playing Classics started as an attempt to transform an existing guitar piece that I had stalled on into a dance number after Rachel requested that the next album have a disco song on it – the original version was 12 minutes long.” Brown adds, “It was probably my favorite instrumental that Nate sent so it was my favorite to work on lyrically. I love disco and dance music and I had been begging him to make a super dance targeted track. I was focusing on the idea of dancing in a club despite the world falling apart outside. It was written during Brat Summer, so Charli definitely had an influence.”
