Trump Is Now Pressing Dr. Oz To Just Go Ahead And Declare Victory While Oz Thanks Him (And Sean Hannity) For Election Guidance

Despite having a rough start to his campaign and a late surge by an “Ultra MAGA” rival, who undoubtedly siphoned votes from him, Dr. Mehmet Oz is within striking distance of locking down the GOP nomination for an open senate seat in Pennsylvania (where he doesn’t even live). Following Tuesday’s primary, Oz appears to have narrowly defeated Dave McCormick, but the margin is so small that election officials have deemed it too close to call, and an automatic recount will almost certainly be triggered.

Naturally, none of that matters to Donald Trump who is already telling Oz to declare himself the winner. In a post on Truth Social, the former president’s social company that he can’t pronounce, Trump immediately got to work accusing the other side of cheating. Who’s ready for another insurrection? Via Mediaite:

As far as Trump sees it, the contest is already over, so he got on Truth Social and said “Dr. Oz should declare victory. It makes it much harder for them to cheat with the ballots that they “just happened to find.”

Much like the 2020 presidential election, the results of GOP primary hinge on counting early and mail-in ballots, which could swing the results in either direction given how close Oz and McCormick are. However, despite Trump setting the stage for yet another election meltdown, Oz made sure to personally thank the former president and Sean Hannity for guiding him through the race in a state where, again, he doesn’t even live.

A ‘Better Call Saul’ Fan Is Pretty Sure That They Cracked The ‘Little Black Book’ Code

The most recent episode of Better Call Saul, “Axe and Grind,” featured more Breaking Bad references and foreshadowings than usual. To name a few: Saul forced Francesca to make a “fake” phone call, which she would later do again to scare Hank into thinking that Marie had been in a car accident; Saul goes to a liquor store to buy an expensive bottle of Zafiro Anejo, which has been on Better Call Saul multiple times, but first showed up as a deadly gift from Gus to Don Eladio on Breaking Bad; and of course, there’s the Best Quality Vacuum card. The Albuquerque-based store is a legitimate business run by Ed Galbraith (played by the late, great Robert Forster), but it’s also where Saul and Walt (and Jesse in El Camino) seek help when they need to, let’s say, get away.

The Best Quality Vacuum card appears in “Axe and Grind” in a little black book owned by Dr. Caldera, a vet who also provides medical care to humans who want no questions asked. He’s leaving town, he tells Saul and Kim, and plans to sell his mysterious notebook — his “keys to the kingdom” — so his life can be “all animals, all the time.”

(Sidenote: It’s unclear how Saul comes into possession of the book, but as co-creator Peter Gould explained on Better Call Saul Insider, its appearance here is “us figuring out that Saul must have found out about [Ed] from the vet without Mike present.”)

What’s in Dr. Caldera’s little black book, you be might wondering? Have a look.

“I think we found the Zodiac Killer,” Saul jokes, but a Better Call Saul fan on Reddit believes that they have cracked the code. Redditor AsuranFish’s deciphering began following the season six premiere, when the little black book shows up as the feds are emptying Saul’s house, post-Breaking Bad. “What is this notebook?” the post reads. “It seems pretty clear to me this is Caldera’s contact book for the ABQ underworld.” What follows is a list of names and numbers, and occasionally, prison information.

HUELL BABINEAUX – ** – II
505-115-_876
PUNCTUAL

ARO – * – II
505-128-2_ _ 0
CSP 18 MOS.NOV.2004 (I think this is stating the guy got 18 months, and will be released in Nov. 2004)

PATRICK KUBY – * – I

__LKUDI – * – II (finger covers the first part of the name)
505-170-2_58
ARRESTED & RELEASED

You can see it here.

AsuranFish went back to work following “Axe and Grind,” which gave viewers a better look at the notebook. “There doesn’t seem to be any familiar names this time around – but maybe some of these folks will turn up,” they wrote. Here’s that.

The Better Call Saul midseason finale airs next Monday, May 23.

Martin Shkreli Has Been Released From Prison Early (Thrilling Marjorie Taylor Greene) And Apparently Headed Straight To Cracker Barrel

Four years after Martin Shkreli — who rose to damning notoriety after cranking up the price of an AIDS drug at least 5000% overnight — cried in open court while being sentenced to seven years for fraud, the Pharma Bro is now a free man. The Washington Post confirmed the news through word from Shkreli’s lawyer, Ben Brafman, who declared, “I am pleased to report that Martin Shkreli has been released from Allenwood prison and transferred to a BOP halfway house after completing all programs that allowed for his prison sentence to be shortened.”

This news reverberated on Twitter, where it thrilled Marjorie Taylor Greene, who hasn’t been this excited since hearing that Roe v. Wade would soon be overturned. “I hear Martin Shkreli has been released, having paid his debt to society,” Greene tweeted while ignoring Madison Cawthorn’s telling primary loss. “2016 energy everywhere you look!”

As for Shkreli, he’s outta there as Edmund Sullvan revealed on Twitter. First, he joked that he found Shkreli “hitchhiking” and pointing out his own fame. And then Sullivan pulled the “satire” card.

Then, uh, Sullivan (wearing a fanboy t-shirt) took Shkreli for a post prison meal at Cracker Barrel. Sounds about right.

There’s no word whether Shkreli will ever recover that seized Wu-Tang Clan album from the federal government (seems unlikely) or if he’s still in contact with the reporter (Christie Smythe) who gave up her personal and professional lives after falling in love with the Pharma Bro.

(Worst. Romance. Novel. Ever.)

For her part, Smythe thinks that we’ll see her Pharma Man back on social media soon.

MAGA Insurrectionist Kathy Barnette Thinks The Pennsylvania GOP Primary Is Rigged And Trump Wants Dr. Oz To Declare Victory Even Though He Hasn’t Won

The Pennsylvania Senate Primary is still too close to call but that’s not stopping some MAGA folk from claiming the whole election is rigged.

Currently, celebrity TV doctor Mehmet Oz and hedge fund manager David McCormick are neck-in-neck for a place on the ballot but another GOP candidate who was leading early in the polls is now claiming that ballot tampering may be to blame for why she’s all but out of the race. Kathy Barnette — a Stop The Steal believer who marched on Capitol Hill in support of Donald Trump’s election fraud claims — gained an impressive amount in the polls during the primary’s final week. Unfortunately for her, Trump decided to back Oz, phoning into the candidate’s rallies and doing robocalls to urge his supporters to vote for the TV personality. That endorsement, coupled with Fox News’s Sean Hannity publicly supporting Oprah’s favorite medical hack, likely helped Oz pull ahead in the polls but because MAGA truthers seem unable to accept the idea that their political candidate can actually lose, now Barnette’s supporters are claiming the Senate Primary race has been rigged.

After being ahead by more than 8 points earlier in the week, Barnette’s crowd is, ironically, claiming that the election has been rigged in favor of a Trump-endorsed candidate. Obviously, there’s no evidence to back this claim, but that hasn’t stopped people on Twitter from already sowing doubt about the results before the race has even been called.

In other news, Trump is now urging Oz to declare himself the winner of the Primary election in order to … get this, avoid claims of election fraud.

So it looks like whoever actually does come out on top will most definitely be fielding claims of a rigged vote and a fake victory which seems like the best form of karma for a bunch of conservative trashbags who marched with Proud Boys and supported insurrectionists and tried to destroy our trust in the democratic process. You reap what you sow and all that.

Alicia Vikander Stars As A Disillusioned Actress In The Trailer For HBO And A24’s ‘Irma Vep’

The trailer for A24 and HBO Max’s upcoming series Irma Vep dropped today, and there is a lot going on. The series is based on the 1996 French film of the same name and stars Ex Machina’s Alicia Vikander as Mira, a discouraged movie star who is tired of playing big-budget superhero roles. She travels to France to play Irma Vep (an anagram for “vampire” how fun!) in a remake of a French silent film.

But as she begins filming, reality and the movie start the blend together. Pair that with a stubborn director, and there is a whole lot of tension on this set. So it’s a remake of a movie that’s based on making a remake of a movie. Follow?

Vikander stars alongside Rene Vidal, Jeanne Balibar, Devon Ross, Carrie Brownstein, and Fala Chen. The series comes from writer-director Olivier Assayas, who also serves as executive producer. Irma Vep airs on June 6th on HBO Max, and will have a premiere at Cannes prior to its release. Here is the official description:

Mira (Alicia Vikander) is an American movie star disillusioned by her career and a recent breakup, who comes to France to star as “Irma Vep” in a remake of the French silent film classic Les Vampires. Set against the backdrop of a lurid crime thriller, Mira struggles as the distinctions between herself and the character she plays begin to blur and merge. Irma Vep reveals to us the uncertain ground that lies at the border of fiction and reality, artifice and authenticity, art and life.

Billy Eichner’s ‘Bros’ Is A Romantic Comedy ‘Unlike Any You’ve Ever Seen’

Billy Eichner has moved on from being loud on the street to writing and starring in his own movie, Bros. From Universal Pitcures, Bros is the gay romantic comedy that Hollywood has been waiting for.

The movie stars Eichner and a slew of LGBTQ+ actors, as Eichner becomes the first openly gay man to co-write and star in a major studio film. The film also stars Luke Macfarlane, Ts Madison, Monica Raymund, Guillermo Díaz, Guy Branum, Bowen Yang, and Amanda Bearse.

Eichner stars as a big-time podcaster who is approached by movie execs to write a gay rom-com that can appeal to straight people. Choas ensues. Check out the official description:

This fall, Universal Pictures proudly presents the first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men maybe, possibly, probably, stumbling towards love. Maybe. They’re both very busy. From the ferocious comic mind of Billy Eichner and the hitmaking brilliance of filmmakers Nicholas Stoller and Judd Apatow comes Bros, a smart, swoony and heartfelt comedy about how hard it is to find another tolerable human being to go through life with.

In a statement, the comedian said: “I wanted to make a movie that was hilarious and relatable to everyone, first and foremost I wanted to make a movie that felt authentic for the LGBTQ folks that the movie is about — and who have been so profoundly underserved by Hollywood over the years, particularly the major movie studios,” Eichner wrote. “From the storytelling to the casting to the crew, it was crucial for me that the needs of LGBTQ+ people were being prioritized.”

Bros is directed by Nicholas Stoller from his screenplay that was co-written with Eichner. The film is produced by Judd Apatow, Stoller, and Joshua Church and is executive produced by Eichner. Bros will hit theaters on September 30th. Check out the trailer above.

Maxo Kream Salutes The Roc-A-Fella Records Dynasty With ‘Jigga Dame’

Maxo Kream’s new album Weight Of The World is only six months old, but he’s already back to the grind with a brand new single, “Jigga Dame.” As suggested by the song’s title, Maxo’s stutter-stepping raps detail his admiration for the Roc Roc-A-Fella Records dynasty. “Me and Jigga talk figures he give me game,” he boasts, “Me and my n****s split millions like Jigga Dame.”

The Houston rapper’s last album dropped two years after its predecessor, Brandon Banks, but it looks like Maxo isn’t waiting another two years to drop his next one. “I’m bacc in Trigga Maxo Mode,” he declared on Twitter, suggesting that he’s looking to keep up the stream of new music after such a long hiatus between his last two albums.

Meanwhile, he put that previous break to good use, building relationships throughout the rap game that led to one of his most collaborative projects yet. Some of the guests on Weight Of The World included Tyler The Creator, who also directed the video for “Big Persona,” Wale and Yella Beezy, who appeared on “Down South,” and ASAP Rocky, who contributed a verse to “Streets Alone.” If he does follow up “Jigga Dame” soon, it’ll be fun to see how he builds on that momentum.

Even In A Loss, Giannis Antetokounmpo Made Clear The Road To A Championship Runs Through Him

Two games into the 2021 NBA Finals, it appeared Giannis Antetokounmpo was destined to fall short once again. After flamingoing his knee in the wrong direction against Atlanta, he had scuttled into a 20-point Game 1 in Phoenix, then watched as Milwaukee’s defense came apart in Game 2. The Suns were, it seemed, homing in on their first-ever championship.

Then, Giannis willed his body to forget about whatever may or may not have been holding his knee together by that point, put the Bucks on his back, and painted one of the greatest NBA Finals masterpieces the league has ever seen, capped off with a 50-point, 14-rebound, five-block masterpiece in the clinching Game 6 win. The Bucks were champions.

Long hailed for his unique talent and absurd work ethic, Giannis put all of it into practice to get his first ring. Years after he first won an MVP, there was finally no denying Giannis was the singular force any challenger would have to confront in order to rise in the NBA. As the league moves on from the LeBron James era (at least the one where it orbits completely around LeBron), the summer of 2021 may be looked back on as the time when Giannis rebuilt the road to a title directly through downtown Milwaukee.

When he was in Cleveland, now-Pelicans president David Griffin used to laud LeBron’s ability to “dictate outcomes.” In a sport where just 10 people occupy the court and one can have such an outsized impact, it’s a basic way to put into words what someone like LeBron did when he put a basketball game into his palm. There was Game 6 of the 2012 East Finals against Boston, when LeBron broke through with 45 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists to return to the Finals. There was Game 7 of the 2016 Finals, with 27 of the Cavs’ 93 points and The Block to give Cleveland its first title. There was even Game 1 of the 2018 Finals, where after a 51-8-8 it felt for one ecstatic night as if LeBron might steal another title from the Warriors’ dynasty with Jeff Green as his second-best teammate.

Especially in Cleveland, it felt as if LeBron could lift any group within sniffing distance of a championship. For a decade, with LeBron, you had a chance. And that meant anyone facing LeBron could never feel complete confidence that they would win.

If anything, the past two mostly LeBron-less NBA postseasons have served as a reminder of how incredibly difficult it is to win playoff basketball games consistently. Star players compete every other day for two months, playing 80-plus percent of the minutes every game, with the entirety of the opponent’s gameplan, emotional energy, and crowd buzz aimed toward the target on your head. Paths to the basket vanish and pet plays are smoked out. Nobody can stay on the court unless they are excellent on both sides of it. Star players are made or exposed.

And during those two years, everyone from back-to-back MVP Nikola Jokic to young stars like Trae Young and Devin Booker have been smacked in the face with that reality of the NBA postseason. While NBA fans have argued about the legitimacy of the Bubble and whether injuries place an asterisk on the 2020 and 2021 championships, the league’s best players have vied for the top rung on the ladder, which may be the place where Giannis is currently settled.

He is not representing his conference in the Finals this time around, but of any single player in the NBA, Giannis over the past two years has shown he will be standing in the way of anyone hoping for a ring. Last year, Giannis got revenge on Miami, outdueled Kevin Durant, then slammed the door on the Suns. This year, Giannis said goodnight to the outmatched Bulls and then, without Khris Middleton, gave the Celtics all they could handle in seven games before he quite simply ran out of gas.

In that second round matchup, Giannis became the first player ever to record 200 points, 100 rebounds, and 50 assists in one playoff series. His fingerprints were all over every single thing Milwaukee did, as he registered a 41.5 percent usage rate and a 39.4 percent assist rate. And he was only on the bench for 56 total minutes in seven games.

It’s difficult to say there’s anything more at all that Giannis could have done. Middleton’s injury came at the worst possible time, particularly because he has a reputation for giving the team that knocked Milwaukee out of the playoffs headaches. The Bucks never found a PJ Tucker replacement. They dealt Donte DiVincenzo for Serge Ibaka at the trade deadline as a hedge against Brook Lopez’s back issues, then played Ibaka a total of three minutes and four seconds against the Celtics. After giving up two second-round picks for Grayson Allen and signing him to a $20 million extension, Milwaukee was burned as Allen struggled mightily in the conference semis. In Game 7, it took an all-time role player performance from Celtics forward Grant Williams and some of Jayson Tatum’s best shot-making for Boston to pull away in the final 24 minutes.

These are the breaks of the NBA playoffs, and Boston suffered its fair share as well. In spite of all of it, though, Giannis still entered the second half of Game 7 with a chance.

Sure, he lost, but for much of the series, the Bucks could have looked confidently toward June and seen only their old foes in Miami standing in the way of another Finals appearance. They were in that position because of Giannis. And the Celtics went to Miami for Game 1 precisely because they beat Giannis.

Only once every generation or so does a player emerge who is capable of getting his team that close simply because he walks onto the court. It’s probably too early, after two dominant postseasons, to call this the Giannis era. But if we are in the final days of the LeBron era, Giannis has put himself in position to be the person who takes up residency on the throne.

Rand Paul Seems Really Hung Up On Japanese Quail That May Or May Not Be More ‘Sexually Promiscuous…When You Give Them Cocaine’

Every party has a pooper and the Republicans have Rand Paul. As Mediaite reports, Paul hopped up on his soap box on Tuesday to complain about quails hopped up on cocaine. The topic at hand? Sending $40 billion in aid to help the people of Ukraine to continue fighting against Russia and Putin, who he seems to like a lot.

“If the defense of Ukraine is really in our national security interests, shouldn’t the gift come from our military budget?” Paul asked from the Senate floor. “What about cutting wasteful spending? My office cataloged over $50 billion in waste.”

For Paul, this is where the real fun of his job is—in noting the many wild ways in which our government is wasting your money. Among the things they’re doing right now, according to the Kentucky senator: Conducting $1 million study to determine whether “taking selfies of yourself while smiling, and then looking at these selfies later on, makes you feel good.” Seems like a fair tradeoff, but cutting $1 million isn’t going to get us to $40 billion anytime soon—but Paul has a plan for that, too:

“Couldn’t we cut the budget of the National Science Foundation that spends billions of dollars studying such burning questions as: Do Panamanian city frogs have a different mating call than the country frogs? Couldn’t we maybe cut the $2 million the NIA spent studying cafeterias to see if someone sneezes in front of you sneezes on the food, whether you’re more or less likely to eat that food.”

But Paul saved the best for last: “Couldn’t we maybe cut the money spent on Japanese quail, and studying whether or not they’re more sexually promiscuous… when you give them cocaine?”

Obviously, the answer to that last question is “no, we cannot cut that funding,” as Paul no doubt knows. Particularly as he has cited that particular study several times before, mentioning it before in 2018, and then again in 2021. But as Mediaite points out, that study concluded years ago—even before Paul first mentioned it in 2018. As Michael Luciano writes for Mediaite:

As the Washington Post noted last year, “You can look up data on NIH grants. This particular research was called “Enhancement of Sexual Motivation” and it did, in fact, receive $873,503 from the agency over the course of its progress. But that funding ended more than five years ago. It ended before Paul raised it in 2018.”

The Post cited an article in Scientific American pointing out that while the study sounds ridiculous on its face, it may have broader implications for humans.

“There is already an extensive literature on drugs like cocaine, how it impacts various behaviors and how it acts in, and changes, the brains,” said the publication. “But we don’t know everything by any means, and we certainly don’t know enough about mechanism to treat cocaine addiction effectively. Studies to understand how cocaine impacts every behavior are important to our understanding of the drug and how we can combat its effects.” The Senate is set to vote on the aid package this week because last week Paul objected when Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) attempted to pass it via unanimous consent.

Take that, Rand.

Lizzo Asked Chris Evans To Play Piano On Her New Album, ‘Special’

Lizzo’s new album, Special, is set for release on July 15, but we don’t know much about the album yet. There’s the single “About Damn Time,” of course, but there’s not a ton of info about the LP beyond that. Now, though, Lizzo has pulled back the curtain a little bit, revealing that, despite her best efforts, the album will not feature Chris Evans playing piano.

On a new episode of Spout Podcast, Lizzo said, “I literally hit him up and was like, ‘Play piano on my album,’ and he just said, ‘Haha.’ It would have been really cool, but unfortunately not this time.”

Yes, Evans is a capable pianist, as the actor reminded fans last October by playing a portion of Prince’s “Purple Rain.”

Lizzo also addressed internet rumors that the new album features a duet with Harry Styles. Lizzo didn’t actually outright debunk the idea, saying, “That is so funny. The internet going to internet. That’s all I’ll say about that.” Lizzo also said of the LP, “I think people are going to be really surprised at how many love songs are on this album.”

Elsewhere, she spoke about why she thinks her Amazon Prime show Watch Out For The Big Grrrls is building a strong connection with audiences, saying, “I think it’s because of the stories. I couldn’t have found better human beings to represent the big girls. They are so talented, so beautiful, and so willing to be vulnerable. And I think vulnerability is, you know, everyone has like a bullsh*t detector these days, like, we can read through bullsh*t. And I think none of these girls are bullish. All of these girls are 100 percent real. And I think people really connect with that.”

Listen to the full Lizzo episode of Spout Podcast below.

Special is out 7/15 via Atlantic. Pre-order it here.

Lizzo is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
