‘MLB The Show 21’ Will Make The ‘Field Of Dreams’ Cornfield Playable In A Free Update

When MLB The Show 21 announced that it was going to have a park creation feature there was a lot of excitement about what fans would be able to do with that. One idea that jumped into everyone’s mind though was the idea of making the famous Field of Dreams from the movie of the same name.

Well hopefully nobody spent too much time making that park, because the developers decided that they were just going to make it themselves. With the White Sox and Yankees set to play a game on August 12 at Dyersville ballpark, the location where the movie was filmed, players of MLB The Show 21 will get to have the same experience. A free update on Tuesday, August 10, will make the Field of Dreams a playable ballpark in the game. A PlayStation Blog from San Diego Studio explained more:

As the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox step onto the diamond this week in the cornfields of Iowa, you too can step onto the field with this update and live out your dreams. The team at San Diego Studio worked closely with the field architects and MLB to accurately replicate this one-of-a-kind field. We didn’t stop with just adding this iconic stadium to MLB The Show 21, but we have an entire week of live content dedicated to Field of Dreams.

Recreating the Field of Dreams was no small task for us, and because of that we needed to be very fluid in our build process. We started listing all the elements in the stadium that would be unique and representative of this famed site, like the corn for example. We were able to start designing the light structure locations, seating area, and general surroundings. One of the more technically important things in-stadium is the field dimensions. This render was a good start, but far from the essential information we needed to create a true representation that this stadium demands.

This is really cool and an easy win for The Show. Fans of baseball have a special place in their heart for Field of Dreams and an MLB game being played there is going to be a lifelong memory for them. So why not give those same fans an opportunity to have their own moments next to that magical cornfield?

The ‘South Park’ Creators Might Use Part Of Their $900 Million Payday To Start A Real-Life Tegridy Farms Weed Business

While South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone may have hit a roadblock in their attempt to buy Casa Bonita, the real-life Colorado Mexican restaurant that appeared in a famous episode of their Comedy Central show, they appear to have more South Park-adjacent plans for the $900 million deal they snagged from ViacomCBS to make more seasons of (and more than a dozen films based on) their longrunning show.

Stone spoke to Bloomberg about the new deal over the weekend and detailed how things will change for them creatively now that they have this infusion of cash. He also spoke about other things they’re going to do with all that money, which starts with a new video game they’re making themselves and also includes a few other Park-related ventures.

We’re a media company. We use the proceeds from this to invest.

These are multi-year projects we invested a bunch of money in. We have a ‘South Park’ 3D video game, release date unknown. We’re doing deep fakes. We have a studio with a dozen people who are deep fake artists. We’re working on a little more of this deep fake movie we’re trying to piece together.

We have a horror movie. A musical. I think we’re really for the first time going to bring Tegridy Weed into real life.

First appearing in the fourth episode of the show’s 22nd season in 2018, Tegridy Farms was part of a joke about the rise in vaping among teenagers and the legal use of marijuana in Colorado. The name, based on the word “integrity,” was Randy Marsh’s idea of an ethical hemp manufacturer that also became a weed company thanks to the help of Towelie, a pothead bath towel that can talk. (It’s fun to explain this to someone who has never seen the show. You should try it.) So while a Deep Fake movie sounds, well, horrifying, and potentially something that could further distance society from whatever’s left of its sense of reality, a Tegridy in real life actually sounds kind of helpful if the duo is serious about creating a not-for-profit weed company interested in social justice initiatives aiming to undo the damage done by America’s decades-long War on Drugs.

We’ll have to wait and see if any of this is serious — keep in mind the duo had talked about buying Casa Bonita in the press without actually asking to buy it in real life — but it doesn’t sound like all that money will just sit in a bank account and collect interest if they have their way.

No, The Zombie Invasion In ‘I Am Legend’ Was Not Caused By A Vaccine, For The Love Of God

The plot for the 2007 post-apocalyptic “zombie” film I Am Legend is pretty straightforward. In the movie, Will Smith plays a pathologist named Robert Neville who attempts to create a cure for cancer by re-engineering the highly contagious measles virus. Instead, the experiment goes horribly wrong and large swaths of the Earth’s population are turned into sunlight-allergic mutant cannibals who almost wipe out all of humanity until Neville successfully finds a cure in the film’s climactic ending.

For the record, I Am Legend is clearly a work of fiction. We’re talking about a basically impossible scientific feat, just going off of the premise of curing cancer with measles. Add zombies into the mix, and we’re completely in the realm of science fiction here. More importantly, at absolutely no point in I Am Legend is a “vaccine” the cause of the zombie apocalypse, and yet, that is one of the reasons why people on social media are advising others against getting the COVID shot. It’s tempting to say something like “You cannot make this stuff up,” except for the part where some people apparently can. And, for some reason, did.

In a New York Times report on an optical business that’s struggling to encourage its employees to get vaccinated, one of the workers reportedly cited a social media post on the “vaccine” in I Am Legend as a reason to abstain from the shot:

One employee said she was concerned because she thought a vaccine had caused the characters in the film “I Am Legend” to turn into zombies. People opposed to vaccines have circulated that claim about the movie’s plot widely on social media. But the plague that turned people into zombies in the movie was caused by a genetically reprogrammed virus, not by a vaccine.

As of this writing, 166.7 million Americans have been fully vaccinated, according to the CDC. Not one of them has turned into a mutant zombie that’s allergic to the sun or tried to eat Will Smith. Get the jab.

Britney Spears Shows Love To #FreeBritney Before Announcing She’s Changing Her Social Media Approach

In recent months, Britney Spears has used her Instagram account to be more clear with fans about how she’s feeling in light of her conservatorship legal battle. Now, though, it looks like Spears will be taking advantage of that avenue of communication less often.

Sharing a video of a fan holding up a #FreeBritney flag displayed outside their home this afternoon, Spears wrote, “Geez look at that flag !!!! I was like ‘My flag up over the American Flag !?!?’ … Yes … I’m tooting my own horn .. is that bad ????? I know in my previous post I said you guys know my situation but LET ME CLARIFY … you only know half of it !!!! One day I will live on the edge !!!! One day.”

Shortly after that, she posted a video of chef Jack Cohen making avocado toast and declared her intentions to shy away from social media from now on: “In a system where I’ve felt completely hopeless for so long, at least I do have a platform to share !!!! As Selena Gomez says it best – The world can be a nasty place … I know it … you know it … kill them with kindness !!! Unfortunately the news has been pretty nasty saying horrible and mean lies about me so I’m gonna post a little less from now on !!!! Pssss this was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen in my life and it’s inspired me to take on a new passion in the cooking field !!!! God bless you beautiful people … TA TA !!!!”

Fox News Host Dan Bongino Apologized For Fox News Editing His Trump Interview To Cut Out Some Of The Batsh*t Lies Trump Spewed In It

Fox News host Dan Bongino was so hurt over some of the “unbelievable” comments criticizing his latest interview with Donald Trump that the TV personality is now turning on his own network to appeal to his fans.

Bongino interviewed Trump on his show over the weekend and the former president (of course) used some of his time to spew some ridiculous, and categorically false, statements about the 2020 Presidential Election. The gist: he claimed the whole thing, especially his loss to President Joe Biden was “fake.” Now, the segment aired in full on Fox News, but the clip was edited to remove Trump’s latest conspiracy theory before it was posted to the network’s official YouTube account, mainly because YouTube has rules now that prohibit public figures from presenting fiction as fact in order to undermine our democracy. Naturally, plenty of Trump supporters who tuned into the show took offense to the wild ramblings of their toupeed tyrant being edited and they directed most of their anger Bongino’s way.

“I feel betrayed by a lot of people,” Bongino said while addressing the backlash on his Monday radio program. “I’ve been called everything this weekend. Sellout, traitor. Pay-triot, with a P-A-Y, which is unbelievable. I mistakenly thought … people who decided to throw me under the bus immediately, I thought they’d wait to hear me out. Apparently not.”

Oh, the irony. Also, “sellout” and “traitor” seem like pretty mild insults when it comes to the gladiator-like bloodbath we normally see in comments sections, but maybe Bongino is just really sensitive about this stuff. Either way, he was quick to point the finger at Fox News — the people that write his checks — when the MAGA crowd came calling for someone’s head.

“It was edited. The reason I was given was to comply with YouTube rules. We have no intention of doing that on my show,” he said. “I don’t control the Fox News YouTube account. However, I do work with them and it’s my show.”

Bongino then went a step further, promising he’d find a solution to the censure problem when it comes to Fox News’ YouTube channel.

“It’s not acceptable at all. I want to make that clear,” he said. “This is not acceptable. Meaning I won’t accept it. And I promise you a definitive resolution that I’m working on now. What it is, we’ll have to find out. But I promise you a definitive resolution.”

Just off the top of our head: maybe don’t invite an irrational, cognitively challenged retiree from Florida on-air to share weird revisionist fantasies that nurse his own wounded ego while stoking discontent and mistrust in people gullible enough to believe his misinformation campaign?

‘Free Guy’ Director Shawn Levy Says ‘Gamer Expectations’ Are What Make Video Game Movies So Hard To Make

Prior to starting production on his upcoming film Free Guy, director Shawn Levy (Stranger Things, Night at the Museum series) nearly worked on a very different kind of video game: the action-adventure title Uncharted. However, Levy ultimately left the jungle-shoot-out-filled franchise after his working title Free Guy gained some traction and none other than Ryan Reynolds joined the project. While Levy explained his departure was due to scheduling conflicts and his prior commitment to Free Guy, in a recent interview with Gizmodo Levy further expanded upon his departure.

In the interview, Levy explained why the idea of working on Free Guy was so alluring and the timing not working out for the Uncharted series actually proved to be a good thing for the director. In addition, he also weighed in on just why making a good video game movie is such a challenge, and we gotta’ say, it makes a whole lot of sense:

“What I know from experience — from having walked a bit of road with Nathan Drake and that Uncharted title — is you can tell a story on screen, but you have to be faithful to the game expectations and gamer expectations of the original franchise. That will always put guardrails on your storytelling. Look, I can’t wait to see Uncharted also, but for me as a director, to have absolute freedom, absolute creative freedom where I’m beholden to nothing except the ideas that were exciting to Ryan and me, that was really fun.”

It’s no secret video game movies, while aplenty, are a bit notorious for not always being the best. While we’ve had our speculation on why — and how the next wave of them could change all that — it’s interesting to hear the perspective of a director who nearly worked on one of the most anticipated ones. While like Levy we’re excited for the upcoming Uncharted film — and of course Free Guy, which hits theaters August 13 — maybe this is the reminder that with less expectations and “guardrails” for video game-based movies, we might just get ones we enjoy even more.

Queen Guitarist Brian May Calls Eric Clapton A ‘Fruitcake’ For His Anti-Vax Stance

As fall tours roll out in conjunction with rising Delta variant cases, the divide is widening between the artists who request COVID vaccination mandates and “passports” at their shows and artists who feel it’s an infringement on rights. Speaking of the latter, it’s long been reported that classic rock figurehead Eric Clapton is anti-vax; he recently said in response to a UK “vaccine passport” mandate that “unless there is provision made for all people to attend, I reserve the right to cancel the show.” Now, Queen guitarist Brian May is coming for Clapton.

Speaking to The Independent, May, who is very pro-vax, said, “I love Eric Clapton, he’s my hero, but he has very different views from me in many ways. He’s a person who thinks it’s OK to shoot animals for fun, so we have our disagreements, but I would never stop respecting the man.”

He added, “Anti-vax people, I’m sorry, I think they’re fruitcakes. There’s plenty of evidence to show that vaccination helps. On the whole they’ve been very safe. There’s always going to be some side effect in any drug you take, but to go around saying vaccines are a plot to kill you, I’m sorry, that goes in the fruitcake jar for me.”

Clapton has been a longstanding critic of the UK government’s pandemic restrictions. Last December, he and the similarly cranky Van Morrison teamed up for the anti-lockdown track “Stand And Deliver,” which met with significant backlash. He’s also recently lamented that his stances have cost him professional relationships, saying, “I would try to reach out to fellow musicians and sometimes I just don’t hear from them anymore. My phone doesn’t ring very often. I don’t get that many texts and emails any more. It’s quite noticeable.”

Electronic Duo DRAMA Give Us A Guide To The Chicago’s Must-Visit Locales

Offering some of the best food, endlessly interesting neighborhoods, must-visit museums, ornate architecture that rivals New York City for the country’s best, Chicago is easily one of the handful of cities in the United States that you absolutely must-visit at some point in your life. So before you book a trip overseas — and, let’s face it, with the way the pandemic is heading, that’s a long way out — make sure you hit up Chicago first to take in all the Windy City has to offer. But considering Chicago is the third-largest city in the whole country, figuring out where to start can be daunting, which is why we hit up the electronic duo DRAMA for an intimate guide to the city’s must-visit locales.

DRAMA is a Chicago-based electronic music duo consisting of producer Na’el Shehade and vocalist Via Rosa whose music balances the fine line between sensual pulsing R&B music (think Sade meets Drake) and the more driving rhythms of Chicago House and electronica. DRAMA’s music — especially their latest single “Don’t Hold Back” — combines elegant arrangements with soulful vocals, piano loops, and swirling string-like synths, resulting in two songs that are perfect for soundtracking the late summer nights that we still have left.

Check out the video for DRAMA’s latest single above, and then dive into their guide of Chicago’s best food, drink, and hang-out spots.

Best Late-Night Food Spot?

Chi Cafe

DRAMA

Chi Cafe in Chinatown! Good smoothies and soy sauce noodle rolls are a must-have. We usually go here late at night after we leave the studio for a snack before we go home because they’re open really late and the service is really fast! Being two artists who are also into culinary arts and the restaurant business, good food and good service mean a lot to us.

Best Breakfast spot?

Kanela Breakfast Club

We love a good breakfast/brunch spot. It’s our favorite kind of food to share with each other. The first choice would be Kanela. Great food, great juice, but expect bad service…!

Stax Cafe

And a strong second with great food and service is Stax on Taylor. They serve simple, easy, delicious breakfast food. Not a lot of vegan options but the service is fast and it’s perfect for a quick business meeting.

Best Place to get a good view of the city?

The Point/Shedd Aquarium/Soho House…Everywhere

DRAMA

There are a few, but the two that we would go with are The Point in Hyde Park and the view from the Shedd Aquarium. Or, if you want to be bougie, the Soho House rooftop has good drinks and a view. Chicago skyline is the best skyline in America. Every time we think we’re over it, we leave and come back like “ahhhhh yes!”

You really can’t beat a late-night ride down Lake Shore Drive, just roll the windows down, throw on your favorite jam, and ride from 31st to Montrose.

DRAMA

Best place to party/catch live music?

Metro

Drama

Metro is one of Chicago’s legendary venues. They also have a dope after-hours club right next to it called Smartbar. There are so many venues you have to play in Chicago before you get to headline at the Metro. It’s like a major stop on the yellow brick road to United Center or something, you know? Everyone has played there! They’ve done a really great job at keeping the space’s character and maintaining their reputation of being one of Chicago’s coolest live music venues. You know you’re on the right path when you hit that stage.

Best place to grab a drink?

Juice House

In all honesty we don’t really drink like that anymore but Beatnik on Chicago is definitely one of my fave spots. The vibe is always lovely, the food is delicious, and we’re suckers for adult slushies. Soho House rooftop is also a solid choice. But if you want some real drinks? Hit up Juice House in Pilsen! Fresh juice and smoothies in the heart of Pilsen. It’s family-owned with lots of personality.

Best place to take in the culture of the city?

Take The Blue Line

DRAMA

The best thing to do is hop on the CTA Blue Line and take it downtown. Chicago is huge with so many worlds within worlds, you can take that ride a million times and always find something new at every stop. We highly recommend getting off in Wicker Park and just walking around, you’ll see some gems.

Best place to take in nature?

Hyde Park Japanese Garden

The Japanese Garden in Hyde Park is an excellent spot to escape from the city noise and unwind, and the Quarry over by 31st. Living in the city can take its toll on you, sometimes you just gotta get away from it all. Chicago is amazing at creating little oases for each section of the city, you’re always no more than ten to 15 minutes from a decent park! There’s nothing like taking a break and just talking or talking a walk.

What is your fondest memory of the CHI?

The Surroundings

DRAMA

Via: Animal House Parties 2010-2013, craziest house parties ever! Ten years in Chicago and I can honestly say I’m still learning the city and the things I like about it. I’ve spent the majority of my time here staying home and going to work. Those first three years living here were just carefree wild nights meeting strangers and shit, Chicago is great for that. Every time I go out I usually leave the party convinced I made new friends.

Na’el: Summertime in Chicago is the best part of our city. Something about the air, the smell, and the food.

One thing everyone visiting CHI must do?

Ride the SeaDog

Rent a Divvy bike, take a ride through downtown, hit Navy Pier, and ride the SeaDog! You gotta get on the Red one! It’s like a jet ski speed boat on the lake with loud music, fast turns, a great view of the skyline! If you’re lucky and you go on the right night sometimes they play movies in the park too. Chicago is just a whole experience with so much to offer.

Machine Gun Kelly Announced His New Album Via Matching Tattoos With Travis Barker

Machine Gun Kelly fully solidified his pop-punk pivot with his 2020 album Tickets To My Downfall. Travis Barker played a major role in bringing that project to life, and now the two are linking up once again for Kelly’s next project, the title of which the pair got creative with announcing today.

In a tweet from this afternoon, he wrote, “i’m gonna announce the album title today i’m tired of hiding it.” Then he followed that with a photo of himself and Travis Barker sporting matching forearm tattoos that reveal the album title and captioned it, “‘born with horns’ the album. back for round two…”

So, the album is called Born With Horns, and presumably, it will feature more of the pop-punk sound that Kelly settled into on Tickets To My Downfall. So far, the title of Born With Horns is the only confirmed info about it, so we don’t yet have album art, a tracklist, or a release date.

Adopting his new pop-punk aesthetic has certainly been a successful endeavor for Kelly, as Tickets To My Downfall became his first No. 1 album after its release. The album also got great TV exposure, as Kelly performed on Saturday Night Live and he and Barker guested on The Late Late Show.

Some families discovered an unexpected love for homeschooling during the pandemic

When schools shut down in the U.S. in the spring of 2020, parents, teachers, and students alike were thrown into uncharted territory. Now, more than a year later, families are finding themselves navigating murky waters once again as the Delta variants surges and schools and local governments grapple with mitigation measures.

Throughout all of this, millions of families have taken the plunge into homeschooling. For some, that meant helping their kids through virtual learning through the public school system, but others decided to ditch the system altogether.

In fact, a Census Bureau report found that the number of U.S. households that reported homeschooling kids doubled from March 2020 to September 2020, from 5.4% to 11.1%. The jump for Black households was even more significant, from 3.3% to 16.1%. With schools starting up this fall in the midst of rising COVID infections, those numbers could grow even higher.

While some parents are choosing to homeschool because they feel like it’s the safest choice, some parents tried homeschooling during the pandemic and found that they and their kids enjoyed it far more than they expected to.

“Homeschooling was something I always thought my kids would benefit from for many reasons, but I could never wrap my head around how to actually do it and the fear that I would fail as their teacher,” Jennifer G., who homeschooled last year and decided to continue this year says. “Covid gave me the push I needed to put my fears aside and dive in.”

“We struggled at times last year and it took a while to find a good routine,” she adds. “But overall, we learned so much about ourselves, about how we function together as a family, and how to make learning fun. We went on fun educational field trips as often as possible, cooked lots of new recipes together to learn about the world, experienced adventures through reading, & grew together as a family. We are looking forward to homeschooling again and having the flexibility to learn what we want how we want. I never imagined learning could be so colorful!”

Jenny S. says that she’s wanted to homeschool for years but her husband and oldest child were never on board. However, due to COVID, she began homeschooling her third and sixth graders last year.

“My 3rd grader THRIVED,” she says. “When the world shut down we noticed some behaviors that led to us finally figuring out what caused the sensory processing disorder we knew she had since she was an infant. So, we knew she’d be home again this year. She’s so ahead of her peers, I didn’t want boredom to add to the problems she already faced in a classroom. She has also learned that schools white-wash history, and boldly proclaims that she was lied to when asked why she likes homeschool better. She never wants to go back. She’s been able to truly dive into her interests, and has learned snd retained more than she ever has before.”

Her oldest has chosen to homeschool for seventh grade for consistency. “While he misses his friends, he knows this year will be better, socialization-wise,” she says. “He is also ahead of most of his peers, and loves that he can move at his own pace. We love the flexibility, fewer hours, and the outdoor time it has allowed us. Without evening homework, I still get hours to get my work done (I mostly work from home), have more time for prepping dinner, and just hanging out as a family.”

Many parents I spoke to were surprised to find that their children excelled learning from home.

Judi S. spent last school year at home with her 10-year-old grandson while his parents worked, helping him with virtual learning through the school. She says has mild ADHD and he was able to be more kinetic at home, which helped him focus better. But she also acknowledged that that wasn’t the case for all kids.

“Some kids did well, some struggled, and some simply checked out,” she said. “I wish that families still had the option of virtual learning as well as homeschooling and in-person because children have such diverse learning styles. And I dread the return of all those soul-sucking hours of homework. I think a lot of parents have discovered how arbitrary and mostly unnecessary homework actually is. We always suspected and now we know.”

Homeschooling isn’t a magic bullet, of course. Not all parents can make it work, and not all parents should even try to make it work. Having come from a teaching background and homeschooled my own kids for almost two decades, I can attest to the fact that it’s not for everyone. And for many families, it’s simply not an option.

At the same time, the pandemic has provided a prime opportunity to give it a shot for those who want to. Much has been made about the mental health impact of school closures, as well as the kids who will fall through the cracks because of needs that get met at school. Those problems are real and those concerns are legitimate—however, a lot of kids really do fare better academically, emotionally, and socially learning outside of a traditional classroom setting.

The fears and reservations that kept many families from trying homeschooling have been trumped by the fears of viral spread and reservations about kids’ safety in the classroom. Though the circumstances that got us to this point are undesirable, there’s never been a more opportune time to experiment with different modes and models of learning. Schooling has been turned topsy turvy anyway, so why not try something entirely new if you have the desire and the ability?

The educational landscape is shifting quickly and there are more resources for learning than ever before. While broad questions about equity and accessibility loom large across that landscape, parents shouldn’t be afraid to explore the various options that are out there. The opportunity to reexamine what learning looks like for individual kids has been laid at our feet with the pandemic blowing up school as we know it. Might as well take advantage of it while we have the chance.
