It’s no secret that DaBaby does things his own way. Exercising his creative creative control has helped him grow from an up-and-coming rapper to charging upwards of $300k for a feature in only a few years. But his success didn’t come without taking risks. One thing he’s been doing from the start is spending hundreds of thousands of his own money on his videos.

The rapper recently sat down with the podcast Million Dollaz Worth Of Game and talked about how he went the longest time without using his label’s money for big-budget videos. While he spends millions on videos in a given year, the rapper revealed his reasoning behind paying out of pocket:

“For sure, $100,000-$200,000 [per video]. For a long time, I didn’t even use a label budget for my videos because I wanted to be able to put sh*t out the way I wanted to put it out. I wanted creative control and sh*t. Especially coming in. I knew I was coming in so different. I don’t got time for motherf*ckers be asking all these goddamn questions about this and that and how I plan on doing this and that. Because if I got the bread I’m not about to wait on nobody, anyway. I just ain’t never been that type of n****, that’s why I hustle the way I hustle. I don’t wait for sh*t. If it’s some raw shit that I can get and they’re like, ‘You gotta wait a month.’ I’mma say f*ck it. […] I’m not getting better at that, with having more patience.”

Last week, Lucasfilm finally had enough with Gina Carano, the MMA fighter-turned-actress after she posted posts deemed offensive over social media. As such, her character on The Mandalorian — tough rogue Cara Dune, who often tags on adventured alongside our bounty hunter hero — would not return for the third season of the Star Wars Disney+ show, nor get the spin-off show that had once been discussed. But that’s not all: Even the Cara Dune action figure will not be returning to toy store shelves.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hasbro, who releases Mandalorian toys, says they are not proceeding with another production run of the figure. The Cara Dune toy was apparently very popular, and that’s its first run sold out very quickly. But those who never bought one will have to be envious of those who did — or at least wait for people to put it on eBay, for no doubt exorbitant prices.

Carano’s firing enraged much of conservative media, who have been up in arms over what they call “cancel culture” and claiming she was fired simply for being an outspoken conservative. Then again, why was Carano let go? Because of a series of offensive social media posts — not only a comment comparing conservatives to Holocaust victims, which was seen as anti-Semitic, but also an actual anti-Semitic image, both of which appeared on her Instagram stories. Meanwhile other Hollywood conservatives — Tim Allen, Chris Pratt, Sylvester Stallone, Clint Eastwood — remain gainfully employed.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has presented himself as one of the heroes of the pandemic. He even won an Emmy for it! But while his state — particularly New York City — didn’t suffer as much as it could have, his efforts have still been very far from perfect. Case in point: A new report claimed he and his administration withheld data involving nursing homes, which were among the hardest hit in the state. On Monday, Cuomo held one of his famous press conferences, although this time he intended to address the allegations. But one Fox News host wasn’t having it.

Janice Dean, who currently serves as co-host and weather reporter on Fox and Friends, was watching Cuomo’s presser at the time, and she had some words. And for good reason: Tragically, both of Dean’s parents died from COVID-19-related complications while living in New York assisted living facilities. Previously she’s attacked the rosy coverage Cuomo’s received, calling them “puff pieces.” So when he tried to deflect blame, she went on an epic Twitter tear.

Dean began by saying she “can’t listen to this guy.” But listen to him she did, and what resulted was a furious and righteously angry series of tweets — not even threaded but one right after the other. Some were general complaints (“He’s lying,” “He is just a disgrace”). Some were specific, accusing him of passing the buck, of distorting the numbers, of simply not caring. Though Dean stopped tweeting after Cuomo’s presser ended, she wasn’t done. She called in to her colleague Martha MacCallum’s Fox News show, saying, “I am astonished, astonished that he continues to be a broken record about the nursing home issue, passing blame on everyone once again.” She called him a “bully” who “cannot be empathetic at all.” And she called for an “independent bipartisan investigation into this governor and his administration.”

As someone who has as many adoring fans as Harry Styles does, it’s difficult to keep his romantic relationships under wraps. So when rumors began circling of an on-set romance brewing between Styles and Olivia Wilde, who’s directing the film Don’t Worry Darling, chaos ensued. His fans were so relentless, in fact, that Wilde had to turn off the comments section of her Instagram page to avoid being bombarded. But even still, the two are able to maintain a working, and possibly romantic, relationship on set.

After wrapping up filming Don’t Worry Darling, Wilde gushed about his acting abilities, and praised him for sharing the screen with actress Florence Pugh:

“Little known fact: most male actors don’t want to play supporting roles in female-led films. The industry has raised them to believe it lessens their power (i.e financial value) to accept these roles, which is one of the reasons it’s so hard to get financing for movies focusing on female stories. No joke, it is harrrrrd to find actors who recognize why it might be worth it to allow for a woman to hold the spotlight. Enter: @harrystyles, our ‘Jack’ . Not only did he relish the opportunity to allow for the brilliant @florencepugh to hold center stage as our ‘Alice’, but he infused every scene with a nuanced sense of humanity. He didn’t have to join our circus, but he jumped on board with humility and grace, and blew us away every day with his talent, warmth, and ability to drive backwards.”

The Lakers lost in Denver on Sunday night, but for the now 21-7 Los Angeles squad, the concern was far less about dropping a game and much more on Anthony Davis’ health.

The star big man left late in the second quarter after being fouled by Nikola Jokic and appearing to step awkwardly. He would take his two free throws and immediately limp to the locker room, grabbing at the back of his right leg. Given Davis has been dealing with Achilles tendonosis for the last week, missing two games because of it, there was immediate concern about his status going forward. The Lakers officially announced he had an Achilles strain with an MRI to come on Monday.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the results of that MRI gave Davis a diagnosis of a calf strain and re-aggravation of his Achilles tendonosis that will keep him out for 2-3 weeks.

The official update from the Lakers is that the MRI revealed no rupture and he’ll be further evaluated back in Los Angeles.

It is an aggravation of the previous injury but happily nothing overly severe. This seems like the best case scenario given any time a player grasps at his Achilles it is always cause for concern. As for Davis’ return, one would expect this to keep him out through the All-Star break and possibly longer, as Woj notes the team will rightfully err on the side of caution.

Strains are always difficult to deal with, because it’s not easy to know when they’ve fully healed and they can be frustratingly easy to aggravate, as Davis did on Sunday. The Lakers will have plenty of work cut out for them over the next few weeks without Davis, as they look to remain in the conversation for the West’s top seed, but this season is all about being right for the playoffs so Davis will be afforded as much time as he needs to get right.

This week, Matt and Vince are joined by Max Collins of Eve 6 and the @eve6 twitter account, to discuss the first episode of Season 4 of the Sopranos, “For All Debts Public and Private.”

Before getting into the episode, Max and Matt swap stories about their run-ins with Third Eye Blind frontman and possibly world’s most confident man, Stephan Jenkins. The consensus is Jenkins is abrasive, but mostly a good hang. You could say people are semi-charmed by him.

This is the first post 9/11 Sopranos, meaning we have officially left the nineties, so please pause here for a moment of silence to remember Matt’s mash-up of “Butterfly’ by Crazytown and Meadow Soprano saying “it’s the nineties.”

Thank you for respecting the moment of silence. We’re sad to see it go, but the good lord taketh and giveth because we lost that song, but we get a new song on today’s episode that is the early frontrunner for PYAG season 4’s song of the season award. Season 3’s went to “Bread Pies,” of course.

Tekashi 69 may have been released from prison several months ago, but that doesn’t mean he’s staying out of trouble. Over the weekend, Meek Mill found himself in the cross-hairs of a potential altercation upon running into Tekashi in a parking garage. Meek didn’t engage in a fight, however, opting to brush the rapper off as someone trying to go viral. But now, a different rapper is actively seeking out a fight with Tekashi. Upon seeing the video of Tekashi’s attempted brawl, Riff Raff took it upon himself to challenge the rapper to an official boxing match.

It doesn’t look like Raff is playing around. The rapper shared a short video montage of him intensely training in the ring and wrote his challenge in the caption. Raff even taunted Tekashi’s felony record and hurled name-calling insults such as “little mosquito” at him. Attempting to up the stakes of the match, Riff Raff wants both of them to put $1 million down on the fight:

“Hello @6ix9ine i see that you like to attempt to start fights with Real Artists that have police records to where if they were to kick your ass in a parking lot then they would go to jail and f*ck their money up … So I, Dale Dan Tony, which (No Felony record) would like to turn the tables and play your game with you as well as Up the Stakes I challenge You @6ix9ine in the boxing ring for $1,000,000 cash. Snowpiercer (TNT, 9:00pm) — The Big Alice crew is onboard, and they’re not going anywhere. It’s up to Layton and Wilford to duke out their different perspectives on how to handle the consolidation. This season’s introduction of Sean Bean caused the series to gain momentum, so the time is still right to catch up on this ride.

The Crew (Netflix series) — Kevin James has his own Netflix show, y’all. He plays a NASCAR crew chief who must step up when the owner steps down. James must resist all efforts to “modernize” his team, and there are members of The King Of Queens and Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 production teams behind this show, so all those Kevin James followers out there will know the drill.

9-1-1 (FOX, 8:00pm) — Maddie’s painful family secret and Buck’s childhood issues threaten to topple the rescue mission for to save people trapped in a five-alarm factory fire.

9-1-1: Lone Star (FOX, 9:00pm) — Next up on the Rob Lowe-starring spinoff, Grace and Carlos respond to a difficult domestic violence call while Judd is surprised during an emergency call.

30 Coins (HBO, 9:00pm) — Biblical demons fill the Season 1 finale while the village is overrun with Cainites. Vergara, Paco, and Elena must get their hands on those coins first, or else.

The Investigation (HBO, 10:00pm) — This Scandinavian limited drama series follows the real-life investigation into the 2017 murder of a Swedish journalist (Kim Wall) in what became one of Danish history’s most notorious criminal cases (aptly dubbed the “Submarine Case”). This is a homemade submarine (?), apparently, and the series hails from Oscar-nominated screenwriter and director Tobias Lindholm (A War, Mindhunter). This week, the forensic team may just find some conclusive evidence.

Judas and the Black Messiah (HBO Max movie) — This Awards-tipped movie can’t stop with the talent. Starring Daniel Kaluuya, LaKeith Stanfield, and Jesse Plemons, this film could be an awards contender. The story revolves around William O’Neal, who infiltrates the Black Panther Party in Illinois after being offered an FBI plea deal. His mission? To gather intelligence upon the head honcho, Chairman Fred Hampton.

Hip Hop Uncovered (Friday, FX 9:00 & 10:19 p.m.) — This six-part docuseries will air two episodes tonight. The first one introduces five contributors (Big U, Deb, Trick Trick, Bimmy and Haitian Jack), who are hip hop’s unsung legacies. We’ll see how the O.G.s learn to hustle to rise up and sharpen their collective business acumen while making a better life for their families.

Wandavision: Episode 6 (Disney+ series) — Halloween arrives in Westview, and there’s some suggestive Devil-related revelations that might change this whole show’s angle. We’ll have to wait and see how that plays out, but last week, Marvel fans were thrilled to tip their hats to Kevin Feige for what’s easily the best episode of the series so far. Watch out for that brutal Easter egg, though.

Following Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel actress Charisma Carpenter breaking her silence and leveling a series of allegations against Joss Whedon, a growing number of her former co-stars have been coming out of the woodwork to offer their support. That list now includes David Boreanaz and James Marsters who played the fan-favorite vampires Angel and Spike, respectively, across the two series. The two actors both shared their support on Twitter, with Boreanaz replying directly to Charisma’s initial tweet alleging that Whedon created a toxic and abusive workplace where she was “fat-shamed” and written off the show in retaliation for getting pregnant while filming Angel.

“I am here for you to listen and support you. Proud of your strength,” Boreanaz wrote.

As for Marsters, the Spike actor offered more general support to anyone who was allegedly abused while working on the Buffy series: “While I will always be honored to have played the character of Spike, the Buffy set was not without challenges,” Marsters tweeted. “I do not support abuse of any kind, and am heartbroken to learn of the experiences of some of the cast. I send my love and support to all involved.”

The two actors join fellow Buffy alum Eliza Dushku, Michelle Trachtenberg, Amber Benson, and Clare Kramer who have all supported Carpenter as well as hinted at their own stories of abusive dealings with Whedon. Carpenter also garnered the significant support of Buffy herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, who voiced her eagerness to sever all ties with Whedon.

“While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don’t want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon,” Gellar wrote on Instagram. “I am more focused on raising my family and surviving a pandemic currently, so I will not be making any further statements at this time. But I stand with all survivors and am proud of them for speaking out.”

At this moment, the hip-hop world is still reeling from Jay-Z and Nipsey Hussle’s latest collaboration, “What It Feels Like.” The song appears on the new soundtrack for the Judas And The Black Messiah film and it serves as one of the infrequent, yet stellar, verses we’ve received from the Roc Nation head at the back end of his career. One rapper who knows a thing or two about guest verses from Jay is Rick Ross, as he’s been lucky enough to work with The Blueprint rapper on several occasions over the years. During a recent sit-down on DJ Khaled’s The First One podcast, Ross reflected on his “Free Mason” track with Jay and why his collaborator’s verse left him in awe.

“He was actually rocking at Madison Square Garden in New York City,” Ross said. “I went back there and I just tapped him and was like, ‘Boy, I’m finally getting a little money, they say I’m in the Illuminati,’ and we laughed about that sh*t and I told him about an idea — ‘Free Mason’ — and I played the production right then.” According to Ross, after Jay heard the beat, it took just minutes for him to lay his verse. “He freestyled the verse, and this was five minutes before he went onstage. He freestyled the verse and just looked at me and walked off. I just stood there.”
