Watch Sam Neill And Jeff Goldblum Sing A Duet On The ‘Jurassic Park: Dominion’ Set

While life amid the still-ongoing coronavirus pandemic hasn’t been great for anyone in the movie-making industry, one of the first films to resume operations seems to be going just swimmingly. Robert Pattinson’s reported COVID-19 positive on the set of The Batman has been a harsh reminder that the highly-contagious disease can infiltrate any set, but thus far there haven’t been any reported problems on the set of Jurassic Park: Dominion.

And now we know what some of the Jurassic Park crew have been doing in their spare time inside the dino bubble: singing songs. Labor Day brought us a lovely duet between Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum, posted on the former’s very lovely Twitter account. Simply given the message “I remember you,” the two then pull off a jazzy rendition of the Frank Ifield classic, with Goldblum on keys and Neill leading the way.

“I remember you, you’re the one who made my dreams come true,” the song goes. It was a delightful little tune, and it certainly got some fans very excited about the reunion of the Jurassic Park characters we’ll likely see on-screen once the movie is done filming. I mean, some people got really excited about this.

We’ll have to see if there’s a musical number in the next Jurassic Park, but now we know that it certainly is in the wheelhouse of two of the movie’s big stars.

Jon Cryer And Matt Gaetz Had A Bizarre Twitter Fight Over White Supremacists And ‘Two And A Half Men’

Twitter is the go-to platform for communication for millions of people, including actors and politicians. And that’s made for some interesting sparring matches when politically-aware celebrities interact with politicians currently serving the American people. A good example of this is Ted Cruz letting his fandom of The Princess Bride put him in the crosshairs of some very personal attacks from those involved in the cult classic after he expressed criticism of a reunion in the form of a Democratic fundraiser in Wisconsin.

Another is what happened over the weekend when Supergirl actor Jon Cryer tweeted a lengthy thread criticizing Florida congressman Matt Gaetz, a fervent supporter of Donald Trump. Cryer was apparently upset about reported comments Trump made about dead American soldiers, and choose the weekend to send out a series of tweets critical of Gaetz and his connections to a white supremacist, a Holocaust denier and other questionable statements he’s made over the years. The tweet also amplified a campaign for someone running against Gaetz in his Florida district.

Eventually, Gaetz got wind of the thread and fired back with a much more subjective retort: that Charlie Sheen, not Cryer, was the star of Two And A Half Men.

That sparked an exchange between the two about the merits of Cryer’s work on the show, perhaps changing the narrative about the fight a bit but certainly giving it more attention as the exchange went viral.

It’s clear that Cryer choose facts over subjective burns in this exchange, but it certainly was not what most people were expecting to see on Twitter over Labor Day.

A Gender Reveal Party Sparked A California Wildfire That’s Burned Thousands Of Acres

Wildfire season has been particularly painful for California this year, as complications due to COVID-19 have left the state short of the prison labor workforce it in part relies upon to fight the multiple fires that have spread across various areas and burned thousands of acres. But one fire in particular drew outrage online when authorities revealed it was started because of a smoke bomb used for a gender reveal party.

These parties — where parents gather friends and family and do some sort of pink or blue related stunt to learn a child’s assigned gender at birth — have become extremely popular in recent years. Countless videos of parents creatively trying to make a spectacle of the baby’s gender have gone viral, as have parodies of these videos as well. But one in California’s El Dorado Ranch Park over the weekend apparently sparked a brush fire that’s responsible for a blaze that as of Monday was only a fraction of a percentage contained.

According to authorities, what’s now being called the El Dordo Fire was “caused by a “smoke generating pyrotechnic device, used during a gender reveal party.” The fire apparently started around 10:30 in the morning on September 5 in El Dorado Ranch Park in Yucaipa and has since spread to cover thousands of acres nearby.

You’ve probably seen one of these videos where pink or blue smoke is used for the gender reveal, but those are pyrotechnic devices that can spark wildfires. And according to authorities, that’s exactly what happened. Videos on Twitter show the extent of the fire, which has already burned thousands of acres and was just five percent contained on Labor Day.

As many pointed out, this isn’t the first time that a gender reveal party sparked a wildfire.

According to CNN, no one has been charged with any crimes related to the incident as of Monday. But those responsible for similar fires have seen charges in the past. Furthermore, large parties are already frowned upon in the a still-ongoing coronavirus pandemic. But using explosives in a park during wildfire season is an especially needless tragedy to add to an already large pile in 2020.

Kanye West ‘Walked On Water’ At Sunday Service And People Are Sharing Reactions

Kanye West has been hosting Sunday Service performances for about a couple years now. While the core aesthetic remains mostly the same — Kanye and his choir in some sort of matching outfit — the rapper has gotten creative with his presentation styles over the years. This past weekend, for example, he hosted a Sunday Service in Atlanta, where he was joined by Joel Osteen. During the service, they took to a pond and created the illusion that they were walking on water, likely by making use of a transparent platform that sits just under the water’s surface and is difficult to see.

Regardless, this feat is visually much like the Jesus Christ miracle from the Bible. Kim Kardashian shared videos and photos from the event, which show Kanye and his choir performing in the middle of the pond.

The stunt has been criticized on Twitter since video of it surfaced. Some have accused Kanye of not taking the word of God seriously, while some believe this is an example of Kanye deifying himself.

This visual likely cost some money to put together, of which Kanye has spent a lot on Sunday Service: He revealed recently that he put $50 million towards Sunday Service in 2019.

Check out some more reactions below.

LeBron On Why He Didn’t Bring His Kids To The Bubble: ‘There’s Nothing For Them To Do’

The second round of the NBA Playoffs has had a touch of a different feel during games as the arenas have dozens more people in them now thanks to the addition of family members to the Bubble.

There are moms and babies, spouses, and parents now sitting socially distanced courtside for games, which has led to some heartwarming moments — like Marcus Morris Sr. going to hold his baby after a great first half — and also some awkward ones as now when players start yelling and jawing into the general void of the fanless arena, they are, in fact, yelling at players’ families. LeBron James is among those that welcomed in a loved one this week as his wife, Savannah, is now in the Disney Bubble, but the James Gang did not travel en masse to Orlando, as Bronny, Bryce, and Zhuri are all still at home in Los Angeles.

Given the presence of many children in the Bubble — albeit, most of them very small children — LeBron was asked about the decision not to have his kids join him in Orlando, and explained that there’s simply not enough things for them to do.

“There’s nothing for them to do,” James said, matter of factly. “I mean, I’ve got a 16-year-old. I mean, he’s going to sit in the bubble and do what? I’ve got a 13-year-old. He’s going to do what? Five-year-old girl. There’s nothing for her to do. The park isn’t open. I mean, there’s only so many times she can go to the pool. My kids are too adventurous and they love to do so much stuff. It makes no sense for them to be here. There’s nothing for them to do here. Go outside, come back in, go outside, come back in. They can stay in L.A., and they’re great. There’s literally nothing for them to do here. This is not a kid-friendly place, let’s be honest.”

Given that James plans on staying in the Bubble through mid-October for a Lakers run to the Finals, it makes sense that he wouldn’t want to drag his kids on a month-and-a-half long excursion to a hotel. The amenities of the Orlando Bubble likely don’t match that of the James residence in L.A., and while LeBron would love to see his kids and have them around, he’s not exactly in a position right now to entertain them constantly with his focus on the Lakers playoff run.

Three Keys For The Raptors And Celtics Pivotal Game 5

After Boston was 0.5 seconds away from taking a 3-0 series lead and pushing the defending champion Raptors to the brink, Toronto has clawed their way even with the Celtics thanks to a miraculous three at the buzzer from OG Anunoby in Game 3 and a dominant defensive performance in Game 4. On Monday, the two sides will be looking to take control of the series in Game 5, both knowing the importance of taking a 3-2 advantage (particularly given the neutral floor environment).

Thus far, the series has been extremely even, with the Celtics currently holding a narrow +3 advantage in the series with every game being decided by single digits. There’s little reason to expect anything different going forward in what has been a sensational defensive series from both teams. That end of the floor should see high level play throughout, with the main questions coming for both teams on the offensive end, where they must solve the puzzle that is the opposing defense.

With that in mind, let’s look at three keys to Game 5 that will swing the series in favor of either Toronto or Boston.

1. Three-Point Shooting

I really wish the biggest thing wasn’t so basic, but as we’ve seen in just about every game in every series thus far, this is the biggest difference maker in today’s NBA. Boston dominated from beyond the arc early in the series, with Toronto struggling mightily to find their rhythm from deep until late in Game 2. In the past two games, things have flipped in the Raptors’ direction from deep, as they’ve connected on a solid 30-of-84 (35.7 percent) from three-point range, while Boston has hit just 16-of-64 (25 percent) in their two losses.

As the series moves forward, whichever team can create and knock down good looks from the outside will have an advantage. These are two excellent defensive teams who are very good at taking away your first (and often second) option, leading to role players being asked to knock down shots. As simple as it may be, the team that gets the most assistance from its non-stars from beyond the arc might just be the one to make it to the conference finals.

2. Can Pascal Siakam Assert Himself?

The first three games of this series were rough for the Raptors All-Star forward, but he came alive in Game 4 with 23 points and 11 rebounds on 10-of-23 shooting (he was 8-for-10 inside the three-point arc). His three-point woes single-handedly dragged the Raptors team shooting numbers down in Game 4, but his willingness to take those shots from deep is actually part of what helped open things up for him inside. The Celtics have thrown a variety of defensive looks and matchups at Siakam in this series, but the one thing that’s been clear is that they’re happy to let him try and post up one of their many shorter but strong defenders. The reason for that is, Siakam’s not great at creating good looks for himself backing down an opponent, as it often results in a semi-contested push/hook shot from 6-8 feet from the rim. Those are shots Boston will live with and Siakam has to avoid settling for too often — especially before he gets into a rhythm.

In Game 4, his shooting from the outside was dreadful at 2-of-13 from three, but he drew defenders further out and was able to put the ball on the floor and attack downhill, which is exactly what the Celtics want to avoid by baiting him into post-ups. If Siakam can find his jump shot, it could be the thing that swings this series to the Raptors, but even if he doesn’t, taking open shots (although, maybe not 13 if you can’t buy one) is important to open the driving lanes that allow him to be at his best going to the basket with a head of steam. There are times to go to the post, but in early games he fell in love with post attempts and they simply weren’t effective. Going forward, he’s best served facing up opponents and driving by them, at worst forcing the Boston defense to collapse on him to allow for kickouts. Siakam has to be a playmaker, both for himself and to get the rest of the offense moving, so Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet can at times work off of him in secondary action once the Boston defense is already scrambling. Game 4 was a good start, and he has to build on that confidence in Game 5.

3. Can Anyone Other Than Tatum Get To The Rim?

Boston’s got to shoot better from the outside, but when the threes aren’t falling, they have to find a way to get easy looks for someone other than Jayson Tatum. Tatum was 9-for-12 inside the arc in Game 4, but the rest of the team struggled to get inside consistently. As a team they were 26-for-40 from two-point range, which is insanely efficient. The problem was their inability to regularly attack downhill against the ever-changing Toronto defense that confused them into taking 35 threes (of which they made seven) with their various zone looks intertwined with aggressive man-to-man ball pressure.

They need Kemba Walker, who has been great in this series, and Jaylen Brown to figure out how to probe and attack the Raptors downhill. To do so, they might have to get creative by trying to get those guys catching the ball on the move, working them off screens and action off the ball so when they catch it, they’ve got the Raptors defense already in motion and can maybe find some more gaps to slip inside. This is, of course, easier said than done against a defense that throws, quite literally, every look possible at you and moves around their bigs to confuse the offense. Still, there’s success to be had inside the arc if you can get there. Boston’s just got to get Tatum some more help in that area.

Watch Tony Hawk Collect S-K-A-T-E On A Real Ramp Just Like In ‘Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater’

The Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 verdict is in: the remastered work of the first two games of the legendary skateboarding series is very fun and very good. And to celebrate, the game’s legendary namesake pulled off one of the game’s classic challenges in real life.

Despite the smooth gameplay from the remastered work on updated levels, the games are, shall we say, not realistic skateboarding simulations. You can bounce off of walls and keep tricks going long after any normal skateboarder could string combos. Part of the fun is to look extremely cool doing things you definitely cannot do in real life.

But for Tony Hawk, all things are possible. Including collecting the letters S-K-A-T-E on a real vert ramp just like you need to do in the game’s levels. Hawk tweeted video of him skating through balloons with the letters on them, and it’s very satisfying to see a part of the game come to life.

The best part is that the video includes a real song from the game’s soundtrack and the sound effects that come with a skater collecting a letter in the game. It’s very fun to see him slap the ‘A’ away, as the balloons don’t just disappear like in the game. They could, for a worse skater, be a bother. But Hawk is a pro, and he even managed to snag a secret tape at the end there. That makes for a good session all around.

Cardi B Fires Back At Candace Owens Following Criticism Of Her Joe Biden Interview

Cardi B scored an interview with presidential candidate Joe Biden last month, and while it was pretty innocuous, it riled some folks up. Among those is Candace Owens, the political commentator with whom Cardi has had beef before.

During a conversation with Ben Shapiro, Owens condemned Biden for speaking with Cardi after not having granted many interviews during this campaign cycle, saying, “This would be akin to Donald Trump saying, ‘I’m going to give no interviews,’ but he came up and he decided to give an interview to Justin Bieber.” Later in her criticism, she referred to Cardi as an “illiterate rapper.”

Cardi responded on Twitter, sharing a video of her sister apparently being harassed by Trump supporters on a beach and writing, “You wanna know why joe gotta talk to me Candice cause I have the #1 song & yet my sister can’t go to the beach in the Hampton’s wit out trump supporters harassing cause they were by themselves & Santa Claus was harassing my sis GF all because they are a Afro/Hispanic gay couple.”

Owens answered, “To clarify—Joe Biden ‘gotta talk’ to you because you have the number 1 song and Santa Claus was harassing your sister? Um. K. Thanks for clearing that one up.” Cardi fired back, “Yes you are right I have the number 1 song & I have a huge platform and I can make millions go vote to get the MAN THAT USED YOU .I don’t want to argue with you Candace I really don’t have the time .I honestly just feel sorry for you.

The back and forth continued with Owens writing, “You are encouraging MILLIONS to go vote for the man that locked up entire generations of black men. Maybe go google: JOE BIDEN AND 1994 CRIME BILL. Joe Biden used you. Bernie Sanders used you. Neither one of them like or know your music. They think you’re dumb.” Cardi answered, “& you are encouraging millions to vote for a man who laugh Everytime a black men gets killed by a cop and tell millions of Americans to drink bleach. Trump didn’t even have you talking at the Republican convention. He thinks you’re dumb.MASA did you dirty but you mad at me ?”

Owens continued, “Lastly, asking racist Joe Biden to lower your taxes in the same breath that you asked for free universal healthcare is about as thick as it gets. When you stick to music, you can get left alone. When you dabble in politics, you will get called out for platforming ignorance.” Cardi responded, “Well paying taxes is something that as much as I hate it’s a reality I will always have to pay …but I rather my tax money go to free education then police funding ….Use my money on something USEFUL.Your president use our tax money to fu d his empty campaign runs.”

Cardi then took the conversation over to Instagram, sharing a six-minute video in which she criticized Owens’ positions and accused her of chasing clout. Cardi then shared a video of Owens talking about Floyd’s arrest and death, and Cardi wrote, “Lost soul. The type of people that drag me all day online all cause I hate trump. This girl tho she makes me sad.She have a identity issue. She hates her own kind.I never f*cked a white men so idk how good white duck is to make turn against my own race but this girl is six months pregnant harrassing all cause of a song Called WAP and Trump .Well I hope I made your bay kick sweety.”

Cardi then dug up an old tweet from Owens, in which she names Cardi as one of her “predictions for the black revolution for free thought.” Cardi wrote, “Since 2018 you been knew the power and potential that I have.I will never let ya SILENCE MY VOICE cause you threatened by the power that I have for a NEW BEGINNING AND CHANGE ! People will call you dumb , stupid but deep down inside they know you a f*ckin FORCE.”

The ‘Lovecraft Country’ Monster Watch: A Night At The Museum, Indiana Jones, And A Lot Of Question Marks

HBO’s Lovecraft Country is ambitious and astounding and will undoubtedly blow your expectations away. Created by Misha Green, who’s working with Matt Ruff’s 1950s-set dark-fantasy novel as source material, the show counts horror visionary Jordan Peele and sci-fi maestro J.J. Abrams as executive producers. The show is full of literary and musical references, along with monsters, both in-your-face and and figurative; we’ll discuss the resulting symbolism on a weekly basis.

While likening the experience of Black America to a horror show, Lovecraft Country is doing its best to make heads spin. Last week, the series did it with a Poltergeist send-up, and this week, we’ve got the “A History Of Violence” episode with a visit to a museum (that exalts Titus Braithwaite), which turns into an Indiana Jones-style adventure to find Titus’ vault and a sacred scroll. Yup, Atticus and Leti (with Montrose in tow) headed up to Boston, where they want to uncover those missing pages from the Book of Names before Christina can find and decode them to weave some presumably disastrous spells. Are these spells that might wipe out Black America? That’s what Atticus seemed to suspect while urging Yahima (who Titus also turned into a siren) to help them.

That’s after they discovered Yahima in mummified form, grasping the scroll and looking supremely monstrous.

HBO

Yikes. (Yet I’m glad that none of these tunnel moments included snakes because Leti probably would have lost her damn mind if she had to face another one.) From Yahima (who is visually presented as a trans person, although characters refer to Yahima with she/her pronouns), we received more confirmation that Titus was the real monster. His expeditions led to her Caribbean tribe, who he brought to America, where he promised to help them but killed them all and imprisoned Yahima.

All of this fits right in with all of the other lessons we’ve seen in this show, and of course Titus counted the abuse of indigenous people among his many other evil deeds. That Yahima doesn’t survive this episode is confusing but perhaps intentionally so (we’ll get to that soon). But using an Indiana Jones-style expedition appears to be Lovecraft Country‘s way of saying that a temple-raider is also a culture-raider, and it also fuels much of the action this week. There was a dissolving plank and a foreboding message — “Beware all ye who tread the path. Ever the tide shall rise” — and everyone nearly drowned before and after Atticus stuck his arm into a hole, and (wtf) used his blood/ancestry to unlock a door. Those scenes weren’t well lit, but we’ll make do.

“This is some Journey to the Center of the Earth-type sh*t”:

HBO

Obviously, the sci-fi-loving Atticus had to mention Jules Verne’s 1860s novel before Leti spotted one of her missing white neighbors floating in the abyss. This was probably one of the guys who got killed by that baby-headed ghost-thing, whose existence suggested that Titus and Horatio were mixing some time-travel into their white supremacist magic. And somehow, Atticus inherently understood Yahima’s language, which could have meant that he’ll be able to decode those spell pages without much trouble. That might not happen, though, since one of this week’s question marks involves Montrose, who bookended the episode by going apesh*t and then calmly slicing Yahima’s throat in the episode’s closing moments.

HBO

What the hell is going on with Montrose?

HBO

Montrose lighting a cult’s bylaws on fire and remarking that it “smells like Tulsa” is… whoa. We learned a few weeks ago that George and Montrose Freeman grew up in Tulsa, which (as Watchmen informed audiences after it was largely wiped from history accounts) is where the 1921 Race Massacre went down, including the bombing of Black Wall Street. There’s the suggestion that the Freeman brothers witnessed these horrors, as well as the possibility that Montrose is haunted by the memories. He’s also hitting the booze to deal with his grief over George, and quite possibly, the cult did something to him in Ardham. All of that bumps up against Montrose finally saying something fatherly to Atticus right before murdering Yahima behind closed doors.

Obviously, there’s duplicity here. At times, Montrose softens and seems to support Atticus, but he also tried to undermine the trip to find Titus’ vault. Taking out Yahima might also prevent Atticus from deciphering the scroll before Christina can nab it, and he burned the Order of the Ancient book that George wanted Atticus to have. Michael K. Williams explained this episode as Montrose wanting to protect Atticus, but that’s not how some Twitter users are seeing it. People have noticed that when Montrose snarls, “Smells like Tulsa,” his voice sounds different than usual. Almost like he’s possessed by a cult member, who’s orchestrating his movements? That might be a stretch, but Christina also could have put a spell on him. I really wouldn’t put anything past her.

Meanwhile, back in Chicago:

The return of Patrick was really something.

HBO

In an episode that features Cardi B. and Rihanna songs, we’ve also got the second Manson tune of the series. “I Put A Spell On You” is a cover of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ 1956 song, for which Nina Simone also recorded a version. And as with all the songs on this show, including “Killing Strangers” earlier in the season (in which Atticus’ presumed shell shock parallels the lyrics referring to the PTSD of Manson’s father in Vietnam), this song selection is a telling one. My theory — after hearing Patrick croon, “What if I told you that I could change your life, forever… it’s a promise that I can keep” — is that their sex scene involved some sort of blood ritual on his behalf. Ruby seems like a sharp tack with both eyes open, though, so I can actually envision her agreeing to something here, but maybe not involving the actual spell.

HBO

We’ve seen Patrick (who has supernatural-looking markings on his chest) operate at the behest of Christina, and he knows that Ruby is Leti’s sister. We also listened to Ruby vent to Patrick about not being able to get a department store job as a Black woman, whereas he would obviously have no problem doing so. What does Patrick want? It’s another mystery, although Christina straight-up told Leti about something that she wants.

HBO

This scene, man. It begins with Christina arriving at Leti’s house while the camera recalls a famous photograph in Black U.S. history, something that the show’s been doing all along. When Christina attempted to enter the house, she ran into an invisible spell-wall and recovered quickly, almost sounding impressed while asking, “Who helped you evict Hiram?” Christina wants something inside the house, and that includes Hiram’s orrery (a model of the solar system), but something doesn’t add up. If she wasn’t aware of not being able to enter the house, then why did she go to all the trouble of secretly giving Leti the money to purchase it?

Leti wondered if Atticus was the key here, and Christina did that contradictory thing that she does — make a feminist declaration while adding a racist twist at the end: “Don’t let the men fool you into thinking that it’s always about them. His blood may have power in it, but that’s only because Titus spelled it that way. It doesn’t make Tic special.”

How sinister of a web is Christina weaving? We later see her bizarrely approaching children to play hide-and-seek in the street, which (I guess) was her way of getting cops’ attention. Captain Lancaster wasn’t thrilled to see her, and they exchanged barbs about Hiram’s “stolen pages” being the key to unlocking something, possibly a time machine. However, no one realizes that Hippolyta is in possession of Hiram’s orrery, and she’s still determined to uncover what really happened to George. After Hippolyta spots their daughter doodling on one of George’s maps, we can gather that she’s headed to Ardham. When we last saw the manor, it was crumbling into a pile of rubble and ashes, but who knows what Hippolyta might find when she arrives. Maybe more vampire things eating bad guys? Yes, please.

HBO’s ‘Lovecraft Country’ airs Sundays at 9:00pm EST.
