Eminem Remembers An Awkward Phone Call He Once Had With Michael Jordan

The Last Dance, the ESPN documentary series about Michael Jordan and the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls, is one of the biggest things in pop culture at the moment. Consequently, a lot of people who have ever had run-ins with the sports legend are sharing their stories about it. Now that includes Eminem, who, like Jordan, is one of the greatest ever at his chosen craft.

During a recent appearance on Sway’s Universe, Eminem spoke about a phone call he and Jordan once had about a potential sneaker collaboration. He said that he thought he blew his shot at working with MJ thanks to a joke he made at the end of the call:

“We were talking about doing some sort of shoe together. I was on the phone with him, we were talking, and everything was cool. He’s super cool, and everything was good until we get to the end of the phone call, and I said, ‘Yo man, when are you gonna come to Detroit so I can dunk on you?’ And it was crickets. I don’t remember exactly what he said, but I think he just kinda was like, ‘Ha ha ha,’ like laughed. I remember getting off the phone going, ‘Oh my God, I think I might have just blew it.’ Because to me, in my head, it was a total joke. It’s so ridiculous for me to think I could dunk on Jordan. In my head, it’s one of those things you think is going to be funnier in your head than when you actually say it.”

It turns out Eminem’s attempt at humor didn’t irreparably sour his relationship with the Jordan brand, as he has gone on to work with the company on multiple occasions, like on the recent Air Jordan 4 Retro “Carhartt x Eminem” sneakers.

SiR’s ‘John Redcorn’ Video Turns TDE’s Stars Into ‘King Of The Hill’ Characters

Top Dawg Appreciation Week may have concluded with Reason’s animated video for “Might Not Make It,” but it seems the illustrated shenanigans may continue for a just a bit longer. The latest TDE video comes via an unusual source: The Instagram page of Guapdad 4000, who posted an animated video for TDE singer SiR’s “John Redcorn” video to his own feed and tagged SiR in the caption.

At the moment, there are few details about where the video came from or who made it, but one thing is for sure: The core Top Dawg roster of Ab-Soul, Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, and Schoolboy Q fit amazingly well into the roles of King Of The Hill‘s main characters Bill Dauterive, Dale Gribble, Hank Hill, and Jeff Boomhauer. Naturally, SiR himself embodies the song’s namesake as he chills in his room, makes beats, ignores a call from “Neicy,” and of course, smokes weed.

There’s no telling where Guapdad came across the video or whether it’s an official TDE release, but it’s Guapdad’s first non-Rona Raps or Falcon Fridays post to his feed, so make of that what you will. The clip itself is only around 30 seconds long, implying that there might be a longer version out there somewhere. The only question now is, of course, whether or not TDE will release it.

All The Best New Music From This Week That You Need To Hear

Keeping up with new music can be exhausting, even impossible. From the weekly album releases to standalone singles dropping on a daily basis, the amount of music is so vast it’s easy for something to slip through the cracks. Even following along with the Uproxx recommendations on a daily basis can be a lot to ask, so every Monday we’re offering up this rundown of the best music released in the last week.

This week saw a reunion between a couple of Scotts and more from Charli XCX’s upcoming quarantine album. Yeah, it was a great week for new music. Check out the highlights below.

Travis Scott and Kid Cudi — “The Scotts”

Travis Scott recently became the first rapper to perform a concert in Fortnite, and he made the occasion special by premiering a new song with Kid Cudi. Billed to The Scotts — based on Cudi’s real name, Scott Mescudi — their self-titled track is their second collaboration following the Birds In The Trap highlight “Through The Night.”

Juice WRLD — “Righteous”

Juice WRLD has popped up on a number of songs since his tragic passing, but he’s been the featured guest on all of them. That is, until a few days ago, when his estate dropped “Righteous,” which was accompanied by a video featuring lighthearted, behind-the-scenes footage of the late rapper.

Charli XCX — “Claws”

Charli XCX is in the midst of a fascinating album rollout: She’s making the record with real-time input from her fans. It’s not just her devotees she’s collaborating with, though, as she worked with 100 Gecs’ Dylan Brady on her latest output, “Claws.”

Kacey Musgraves — “Oh, What A World 2.0”

To celebrate Earth day (during a time when people could use something to celebrate), Kacey Musgraves dropped a new, slightly poppier version of “Oh, What A World 2.0.” She said in a hopeful message accompanying her fresh release, “In spite of all its troubles, it’s still a wild, beautiful world and if you need proof, it’s out there. You just might have to look in a different corner of the sky.”

Lil Baby — “All In”

My Turn, Lil Baby’s No. 1 album that has made him one of the most successful artists on the chart this year, is about to get even bigger. He just announced a new deluxe version, and he did so with a video for “All In,” a quarantine-friendly visual in which he cleans his jewelry and otherwise stays at home.

Isaiah Rashad — “Why Worry”

Isaiah Rashad dropped his beloved album The Sun’s Tirade in 2016, and he hasn’t been heard from much since then. That changed last week, though, when the reclusive rapper dropped “Why Worry,” his first new music in four years.

The Killers — “Fire In Bone”

The bad news is that The Killers, like many artists, have pushed back the release of their upcoming album. The good news is that they returned with a new song last week, which Brandon Flowers described as “my take on the unicorn entering the room or lightning striking.’

Kali Uchis — To Feel Alive EP

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Kali Uchis announced an EP last week, and a few days later, it was out. It comes in advance of a new full-length record of Uchis, and she wrote of the EP, “can’t give you my album yet, but i recorded some demos in my room for u.”

The 1975 — “If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)”

Despite all the postponements, The 1975 have been nailing the rollout for their upcoming album, because the music has completely been there. Their latest taste of the record is “If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know),” an ’80s-inspired track that is another brick in the super-solid wall that is shaping up to be Notes On A Conditional Form.

Bright Eyes — “Forced Convalescence”

Another bad-news-good-news scenario: Bright Eyes are “re-thinking” their comeback tour, but the comeback album isn’t going anywhere. They just shared a new track from it, “Forced Convalescence,” an Americana-inspired new track that about imaginations running wild while laid up in bed.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

UPROXX 20: ‘Dispatches From Elsewhere’ Star Eve Lindley Just Wants To Work And Eat Thin Crust Pizza

Eve Lindley is the breakout star of AMC’s Dispatches From Elsewhere, co-starring alongside series creator and producer Jason Segel, legend Sally Field, and Outkast musical genius Andre Benjamin. Despite that imposing list of screen mates, however, Lindley has more than held her own, winning raves for her multi-faceted performance as a transgendered woman who, alongside the others, seeks the end of a thread on a mystery that illuminates their lives while calling into question the nature of what is and isn’t.

Ahead of tonight’s finale (airing at 10 pm ET on AMC), Lindley was willing to weigh in on decidedly less intense mysteries such as her cartoon preference, the eternal battle between cats and dogs, and what she’d do if Nic Cage knocked on her door, with a batch of charming answers unlike any we’ve seen before in our ongoing Uproxx 20 series.

1. You walk into a bar. What do you order from the bartender?

An ice-cold Coca-Cola. (Unsponsored unless they wanna?)

2. Who’s your favorite person to follow on Twitter and/or Instagram?

On Instagram @christinehmcconnell and @britneyspears, on Twitter @lin_manuel.

3. What’s currently waiting for you on your DVR or in your streaming queue?

I’m currently in the middle of rewatching all the Harry Potters.

4. It’s your last meal — what are you going out with?

Oh jeez. I guess fish tacos, but I could also go for some pepperoni pizza. Or Bahn mi. Or bagels. Will there be seconds?

5. What websites do you visit on a regular basis?

I haven’t been on a website since 1998.

6. What’s the most frequently played song on your mobile device?

“I Know A Place” by Muna. A song suggested to me by the far musically superior Noah Galvin.

7. If you could go back and give your 18-year-old self one piece of advice what would it be?

Please stop talking so damn much.

8. What was the last thing you Googled?

Well, I guess that depends on what you mean by “google.” *Rim shot*

9. Dogs or cats?

Dogs, but I am also not into the way the media pits household pets against each other.

10. Best concert of your life was…?

Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Central Park, 2011.

11. What book are you most likely to give as a gift?

“The Body Keeps The Score” by Bessel Van Der Kolk, MD.

13. South Park or Family Guy?

Big Mouth.

14. You have an entire day to do whatever you want. What would you do?

Honestly… I’d go to work. I’d rather be working than doing pretty much anything.

15. What movie can you not resist watching if it’s on?

Titanic.

16. The sports team or teams you’re most passionate about?

I don’t understand the question, and I won’t respond to it.

17. Where did you eat the best meal of your life?

Gruppo Thin Crust Pizza in the East Village.

18. The last movie you saw in a theater?

I miss theaters so fucking much. I think the last thing I saw was Little Women.

19. Who was your first celebrity crush?

Jim Carrey and Erik Von Detten. I‘m into variety.

20. What would you cook if Nic Cage were coming to your house for dinner?

I mean, I don’t know, does he have any dietary restrictions? I’m sure I can figure out some sort of pasta that will suffice. Now I’m nervous. What time is he getting here? Have I figured out a lighting scheme? What about mood music? Scents?!

Live Nation Announces Its ‘Ticket Relief’ Plan For Canceled And Postponed Shows

With concerts, festivals, and tours being postponed or canceled through the end of summer — and possibly even the end of the year — music fans who bought tickets earlier this year have had to deal with the added stress of holding tickets to shows that may not happen and hoping for a refund.

Today, Live Nation announced and detailed its “Ticket Relief” plans to accommodate those fans — if only a little. While canceled shows will automatically be refunded, rescheduled shows will be valid for refund after the new dates are announced, inside of a 30 day window. Those fans who don’t want to wait for the new dates to request a refund will still have to wait for 60 days from the postponement date.

Finally, if a show for a Live Nation venue was canceled fans can opt into a 150% credit toward another show. Further, Live Nation has committed to donating a ticket to healthcare workers for every ticket that was originally purchased. For more details, see below, or visit Live Nation’s Ticket Relief website here.

For Cancelled Shows:

Ticket holders will automatically receive a refund for cancelled events. Alternatively, if your show is at a Live Nation venue (list below) you will have 30 days to opt in to receiving your refund as a 150% credit to use towards buying future tickets. See more information below.

For Rescheduled Shows:

Tickets will automatically be valid for the new date, unless you opt for a refund within 30 days of the new show date being announced. Notification emails to ticket holders will begin May 1. If you have tickets to a show that is postponed, you will be able to select your refund option once the new date is announced. If 60 days has passed since a show was postponed and no rescheduled dates have been announced, the 30-day window for refunds will open at that time.

Hero Nation Program:

If you have tickets to a show at a Live Nation venue that gets cancelled, you can choose to receive a credit for 150% of your purchase (including fees). So if you spent $200 on tickets, you will receive $300 in credit! When you choose this option, Live Nation will also donate tickets to healthcare workers to share the gift of live with those working on the front line through our Hero Nation program. We will donate 1 ticket for every ticket you originally purchased. All ticket holders will receive emails with their options beginning May 1. This offer is not valid for special events, third party rentals or festivals.

Justin Bieber And Other Canadian Superstars Cover Bill Withers For Charity

A bevy of charitable efforts have popped up all around the world since the coronavirus pandemic became a global issue. The music community has spearheaded its fair share of them, and now a group of Canadian artists are doing their part as well: Justin Bieber, Rush’s Geddy Lee, Avril Lavigne, and a number of other have teamed up to cover the late Bill Withers’ “Lean On Me” for charity.

Stronger Together, Tous Ensemble, a TV special aired to honor healthcare workers dealing with the pandemic, went down across Canada over the weekend, and the show was highlighted by the star-studded rendition of “Lean On Me.” Aside from the aforementioned, other participating artists include Bad Child, Bryan Adams, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Command Sisters, Dan Kanter, Desiire, Donovan Woods, Fefe Dobson, Jann Arden, Johnny Orlando, Josh Ramsay, Jules Halpern, Marie-Mai, Michael Bublé, Olivia Lunny, Ryland James, Sarah McLachlan, Scott Helman, Serena Ryder, Shawn Hook, TIKA, The Tenors, Tyler Shaw, and Walk Off The Earth.

The recording is streaming now, and all proceeds from it will go to benefit The Canadian Red Cross.

The cover also served as a tribute to the recently deceased Withers, as a note shown before the performance read, “To the late, great Bill Withers. Thank you for your lyrics and inspiring message. We are grateful to lean on your music during our time of need. Your musical legacy lives on through us.”

‘Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker’ Is Coming To Disney+ On A Very Appropriate Day

Whenever I think of The Rise of Skywalker, I think of Babu Frik, obviously, but also the way Lisa describes Comic Book Guy in an episode of The Simpsons from a few years ago: “His favorite thing is Star Wars, and he hates Star Wars.” That’s an accurate summation of The Rise of Skywalker, which some fans loved, but many people considered the worst movie of the sequel trilogy. It’s still Star Wars, though, and they (me) will watch the film the first day it’s available on Disney+. Which is pretty soon!

Disney announced on Monday that Episode IX is hitting Disney+ two months earlier than expected, on May 4, a.k.a. Star Wars Day. “For the first time ever, fans will be able to stream the complete Skywalker saga all in one place,” a press release notes, which is only a half-truth. Yes, every episodic movie, Rogue One, and Solo will be there, but what about Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure? And Ewoks: The Battle for Endor? And don’t even get me started on no Star Wars Holiday Special

Other Star Wars Day content on Disney’s streaming service includes the premiere of Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian documentary series, The Clone Wars series finale, and a “week-long concept art takeover,” where “like a commemorative gallery, each film and series’ artwork will be updated on May 4th to feature its original concept paintings.” Neat!

Here’s hoping that includes some Ralph McQuarrie-style Baby Yoda artwork.

Chance The Rapper Debuted A New Song With Lil Wayne And Young Thug On Instagram

The music community has been forced to quickly adapt to this new world we live in due to the coronavirus pandemic and the lifestyle changes it has necessitated. Livestream concerts have become a primary form of musical entertainment, for example. Chance The Rapper is also mixing up how he’s releasing music: Over the past week or so, he has shared a number of new songs exclusively on his Instagram account. This weekend, he dropped another new one, and it features Lil Wayne and Young Thug.

Like the tracks that preceded it, this new one doesn’t have an official title beyond “Instagram song 8,” as Chance captioned the post. On the upbeat track, Chance delivers a boastful verse in which he gets boastful about his walk-in closet and about women. Meanwhile, Lil Wayne offers lines like, “My main b*tch say she feelin’ secondary / Love, you worry ’bout yourself and not the other b*tch I’m tellin’.” Thugger takes control on the third verse and also shares some lyrical gems, including, “Put my thumb in her butt, so I guess she got ice on her sh*t.”

Listen to the new song above, and keep an eye on Chance’s Instagram in case more fresh material follows soon.

Stanley Tucci Brings His Cocktail-Mixing Skills To John Krasinski’s ‘Good News’ Potluck With Guy Fieri

Almost a month after John Krasinski and Steve Carell came together to spread some Good News during the quarantine, Krasinski’s still holding weekly episodes to spread some cheer. This has included a virtual prom with Billie Eilish and the Jonas Brothers, along with weatherman Brad Pitt, but this week, Krasinski’s all about the food (and drink) with the Potluck Edition of “Some Good News.”

More specifically, Krasinski wished to honor restaurants, which are not only being hit terribly hard by this pandemic, but they’re also “some of the places where you can find the biggest heroes.” Yep, restaurants are donating meals to other heroes who work at hospitals, but they’re also in need of some help themselves. Enter Guy Fieri (who’s established a fund to help furloughed restaurant workers) throughout Krasinski’s latest epsiode, along with a smattering of other guests dropping in with tips and visuals. Perhaps the most timely visual of all comes from Stanley Tucci, who dropped in after the 12:00 minute mark to sip one of his newly famed Negronis, which is essentially a Quarantini these days.

If you were on the Internet at any point last week, there’s a good chance that you had the pleasure of watching Tucci go viral after posting a cocktail-mixing video that caused (and cured) a lot of thirst out there. Within days, James Corden hosted Tucci for the same purpose (to make a Tuccitini, sorry, not sorry), and Tucci told Corden that he fires up his mixing skills every evening at 5:00 p.m. For Krasinski’s webcast, the Quarantini’s helping to highlight a good cause.

Watch Krasinski’s Potluck Edition of SGN, above, for glimpses of Martha Stewart and David Chang, who drop food-based wisdom. It was delightful and, yes, much needed Good News. And in case you missed Tucci with Corden, here’s that video as well.
