People who decide not to have children are often unfairly judged by those who chose a different life path. People with children can be especially judgmental to women who’ve decided to opt out of motherhood.

“You will regret it!” is one of the most common phrases lobbed at those who choose to remain childless. Why do people think they’ll have such awful regrets? Because they often say they’ll wind up “lonely and sad” when they’re older.

They also say that life without children is without purpose and that when the childless get older they’ll have no one to take care of them. One of the most patronizing critiques thrown at childless women is that they will never “feel complete” unless they have a child.

However, a lot of these critiques say more about the person doling them out than the person who decides to remain childless. Maybe, just maybe, their life is fulfilling enough without having to reproduce. Maybe, just maybe, they can have a life full of purpose without caring for any offspring.

Maybe the question should be: What’s lacking in your life that you need a child to feel complete?

Studies show that some people regret being childless when they get older, but they’re in the minority. An Australian researcher found that a quarter of child-free women came to regret the decision once they were past child-bearing age and began contemplating old age alone.

People revealed the reasons they’ve decided to be childless in an article by The Upshot. The top answers were the desire for more leisure time, the need to find a partner and the inability to afford child care. A big reason that many women decide not to have children is that motherhood feels like more of a choice these days, instead of a foregone conclusion as it was in previous decades.

Reddit user u/ADreamyNightOwl asked a “serious” question about being childless to the AskReddit subforum and received a lot of honest answers. They asked “People over 50 that chose to be childfree, do you regret your decision? Why or why not?”

The people who responded are overwhelmingly happy with their decision not to have children. A surprising number said they felt positive about their decision because they thought they’d be a lousy parent. Others said they were happy to have been able to enjoy more free time than their friends and family members who had kids.

1. Never had any desire.

“I explain it to people like this – you know that feeling you get where you just can’t wait to teach your kid how to play baseball? or whatever it is you want to share with them? I don’t have that. Its basically a lack of parental instinct. Having children was never something I aspired to. My SO is the same way.

A viral TikTok video highlights an extreme version of inequality that many wives and mothers in heterosexual relationships face. However, the mom in this story hit her limit and won’t deal with it anymore.

Lynalice Bandy, who goes by @5kids5catssomedogstoo on TikTok, posted a video that showed her home looking like a disaster after she worked six 10-hour days straight while her husband did nothing to help.

Her time-lapse video shows every room in the house completely trashed, with toys, food and laundry scattered everywhere. “Shampoo on the carpets in the girls’ room, nail polish all over Nugget covers, hair, and carpet. Scissors were used to cut hair, the down comforter, the mattress cover, and two Nugget covers,” wrote the mom.

“I’ve worked six, ten-hour days in a row with only one day off being a sick day,” she captioned the video. “I’d like to pretend I’m not the only person who cleans here, but as you can see…These rooms don’t get much attention when I’m not here.”

She says her husband’s excuse was that he was focused on doing his schoolwork and couldn’t pay attention to the kids. “Now, that school is out for a break, he doesn’t have that excuse anymore,” Bandy says, noting that all of his attention has been focused on “the four vehicles in our driveway that he wants to work on continuously.”

In a follow-up video, Bandy announced that she left her husband after the debacle. The original video received over 17,000 comments, many of which were from supportive women.

“You deserve much better, and he deserves to be alone. Much love to you from someone that left that life behind almost 20 yrs ago. You’ll get here, too,” Angela LaRoche wrote.

“Ma’am, you are nothing short of amazing! Hang in there!” Japanese with Jenny wrote.

“That home is beautiful because of YOU,” Hillary added. “You put in so much work, and it is not unseen by me and so many others. But, you DO deserve better. Proud of you.”

Sounds about right…

Even though Bandy’s experience with her husband is an extreme case of a couple whose domestic duties are way out of balance, it points to a problem that plagues many households. Even though it’s 2023 and families are becoming more equal, women still do significantly more housework than men.

A study utilizing data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ American Time Use Survey found that women 15 years and older spend 5.7 hours daily doing housework and looking after kids and elders. Men in the same age group do an average of 3.6 hours of daily domestic work.

That’s a 37% difference in time spent on household responsibilities.

Further, women who work an average of 35 hours a week spend 4.9 hours a day on household chores and child care, while men who work the same amount spend an average of 3.8 hours.

The comments show that there are a lot of women out there who are frustrated with their husbands for not doing their fair share. Hopefully, this video will encourage more people to speak out about domestic inequality and for more men to step up and do their part.

Soooo, there’s this dog and I’m pretty sure it’s the actual Snoopy come to life. Seriously all the dog needs is a red dog house out back and a little yellow bird that follows it around. If you think it can’t be true, then you’re going to have to fight the entire internet about it because nobody can get enough of how much this sweet dog looks like the iconic cartoon character.

Snoopy is Charlie Brown’s pet from the comic strip “Peanuts” that eventually spawned several movies and cartoon series, and Bayley is a dead ringer for the black and white animated pup. Since we live in a digital age, people across the country have been falling all over themselves to get to the pooch’s Instagram account and admire her cartoonish mug.

Bayley is a 1-year-old mini sheepadoodle, which is a cross between a miniature poodle and an Old English Sheepdog. Her sweet face is something you have to see to believe and even then you may question if she’s real.

The dog’s perfectly groomed curly fur makes her face look fluffy and cartoon-like. Once you add in her black ears and black button nose, that honestly looks more like a smooth lump of coal than a dog nose, then you have the perfect Snoopy doppelgänger. Bayley came into her viral fame after Doodle Dogs Club shared her photo on their Instagram account that has over 230,000 followers, and just like that, she was “famous.”

The introductory post of the live version of Charlie Brown’s best friend racked up over 1.4 million likes and 10.3K comments. The comments ranged from people reminding others that the fictional dog was a Beagle to people demanding Bayley star in the live action version of Charlie Brown.

Whether Snoopy was a Beagle or not, there’s no arguing that Bayley looks more like the cartoon canine than real life Beagles. This probably has a lot to do with cartoons being…cartoons. Everything tends to be a bit bubbly and over exaggerated with cartoons.

Charlie Brown was supposed to be between the ages of 4 and 8 years old according to PeanutsWiki, who busted out the comic strip receipts. If cartoons looked exactly like real life, poor Charlie Brown would have a hard time walking with his oversized noggin.

Bayley’s curly fluffy fur gives her an advantage over actual Beagle’s when it comes to the ability to look like the famous cartoon character. It’s something she probably couldn’t care less about, unless every time she got compared to Snoopy equaled a dog treat. Otherwise, I’m sure the black and white sheepadoodle is perfectly happy just being a dog wondering why suddenly her mom keeps taking pictures of her.

Since Bayley’s debut on Doodle Dogs Club, the animated dog come to life has climbed up to over 240k followers and her fanbase just can’t get enough of her. To make people love her even more, the dog’s mom uploads videos of Bayley using audio that makes it sound like the pup is a toddler trying to tell a story.

Jinky, the Springer Spaniel, has his own social media page, where his doggie parents document his beautiful life in Yorkshire, England. As the photos suggest, he loves playing in the mud. Springers are active, love the great outdoors, and are known for having a lot of energy.

Recently, Jinky’s mom took him on a walk during a loose-leash training session when he took an unexpected turn that revealed where his doggie daddy had secretly been taking him. Loose-leash training is a method trainers use to teach dogs to walk on a leash with some slack without pulling or going after other dogs.

After Jinky turned to walk into the village pub as if he had done it a million times before, the wife thought it was hilarious and asked her husband to let her know she was on to him. “It was really funny,” she told Newsweek. “I sent the clip straight to him.”

The clip was quite a hit on Instagram, where it has been seen over 4 million times and has over 200,000 likes. Many of the commenters suspected that there were many great friends and treats inside the pub, and that’s why Jinky wanted to go back. Others thought the wife should have let Jinky into the pub for a pint or two.

There’s nothing like roasting an old pal for getting old, especially since they can’t really help it. Look, we all have to age at some point. Stephen Colbert turned 60 this week, and he doesn’t seem to mind! But his buddy Steve Carell (who is 61, by the way) stopped by The Late Show to apparently try and make him feel bad for growing up. It seemed to work.

The two Stevens brought back a throwback segment, called Even Stevphen, from The Daily Show , where the duo would debate hot button issues moderated by Jon Stewart. The bit began in 1999 on The Daily Show, then again when Carell stopped by The Colbert Report in 2010. For the 25th anniversary of the segment, and Colbert’s 60th birthday, the two reunited for a timely and heated debate about aging.

Colbert claimed that he doesn’t mind aging, while Carell insisted that aging is bad. “Steven, we are born astride a grave, and each day, the cruel grasp of time pulls us closer to oblivion,” Carell began. “You will never be younger than you are in this moment, and let’s face it, my friend: You haven’t aged well.”

On the flip side, Colbert highlighted the upsides of getting old. “Age ripens us like a fine wine, because with age comes experience, and with experience comes wisdom. With wisdom comes the ability to see you for what you are: a sad, dumb, salt-and-pepper idiot,” he added. The duo then roasted each other for their various projects over the years, including 2005’s Bewitched, which they both starred in.

The two bickered in their usual fashion, with jokes about being old (Carell refers to Colbert as “CBS’s oldest Sheldon”) But it all lead up to a heartfelt moment between the longtime pals.“I will always be here for you,” Carell tearfully told Colbert, adding “Anytime I have something to promote.” Catch IF in theaters this weekend!

Despite already being in hot water with rap fans over his take on the Drake/Kendrick Lamar beef, Questlove derided a different diss track in a new interview. This time, his beef (heh) is with a classic of the genre: Tupac’s “Hit ‘Em Up,” which is widely regarded as one of the best — or at least, the most disrespectful — diss tracks in rap.

Appearing on SiriumXM’s One Song Podcast to discuss Public Enemy’s “Cold Lampin’ With Flavor,” Quest was inevitably baited into commenting on the evolution of diss tracks. While pointing out how the lyrics on them are usually just “okay,” he brought up his issue with “Hit ‘Em Up” — which is so very specific, and so very, very Questlove.

“I would actually respect Tupac’s ‘Hit ‘Em Up’ if his music tracking was better,” he announced. “‘Hit ‘Em Up,’ to me, is disqualified not because of the misogynist… forget all that. Dude, you’re rhyming over smooth jazz dinner music! Luther Vandross could sing over this!”

He’s referring here to “Don’t Look Any Further” by Dennis Edwards, the song sampled by “Hit ‘Em Up” producer Johnny “J.” (For a laugh, check out the original music video, which is unintentionally hilarious in its 1980s-ness.)

Once a clip of the interview — out of context, of course — made its way to Twitter, Questlove became the target of fans already incensed that he had declared “hip-hop is dead” over the Drake/Kendrick battle. Some fans pointed out that The Roots’ video for “What They Do” could be interpreted as a satirical diss of The Notorious B.I.G. (and, in fact, was seen that way by Biggie, but as Quest has repeatedly pointed out, that was all a misunderstanding — read the liner notes sometime, people).

It seems unlikely that Quest is going to change his opinion. After all, he’s seen hip-hop through a great many iterations and has maintained more or less the same level of forward-thinking, left-of-center outlook on it the entire time. The people fronting on him now probably aren’t the people who actually had Illadelph Halflife on vinyl, so some friction between their viewpoints is probably not only to be expected, but practically inevitable (anyone who was on rap forums in the late 90s or early 2000s can attest to this).

Rudy Gobert just cannot stop owing the NBA money because of his dislike of Scott Foster. During the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Game 4 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night, Gobert indicated that someone might be lining the longtime official’s pockets with instructions to make calls against his team, as he did a subtle but noticeable money sign after a call in the fourth quarter.

As it turns out, the league does not like when people do this, and Gobert was hit with a $75,000 fine for this on Tuesday afternoon.

The crazy thing is this is not the first time that Gobert has gotten a financial punishment for doing this exact thing with this exact ref. Back in March, Gobert and the Wolves took on the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the big man got assessed a technical foul. After it was over, Gobert made this exact sign directly at the referees, then questioned their integrity after the game and brought up the way sports betting is influencing decisions made by officials.

Funny enough, Gobert actually got hit with a bigger fine that time around, as the league took $100,000 for the incident in March. So if there’s a silver lining for Rudy on this one, it’s that the league decided not to take more money from him despite saying his “history of improper conduct towards game officials” played a role in the fine, largely because this time he didn’t also suggest after the game the refs were in on the take in his postgame presser.

Over the past few years, it’s become common practice for NBA and WNBA teams to kick off their seasons with hype videos, often narrated by hometown artists from the cities where the franchises are situated. For instance, GloRilla narrated a video for the Grizzlies a couple of years ago.

So, when the WNBA’s newest franchise, the Golden State Valkyries, posted a hype video announcing their launch, it only made sense they would tap a Bay Area artist to do the narration. Their choice, Kehlani, turned out to be perfect in more ways than one.

While Kehlani was already involved in the WNBA thanks to their 2023 All-Star Game performance, you may remember that the show inspired a certain amount of, well… thirst among both fans and players, as there is a lot of overlap between the target audiences of the W and Kehlani (“the girls, the gays, and the theys,” as the saying goes).

The response to the Valkyries’ launch video was no different. “Kehlani” trended on Twitter (which I am never calling “X,” sorry, Elon) as fans fell in love with the SweetSexySavage tones of Kehlani’s delivery and the possibility of seeing future draft prospect Paige Bueckers suiting up in the new franchise’s apparent black and purple.

“Sharing a name with a bisexual Tessa Thompson character and getting the announcement narrated by Kehlani??” wrote one fan. “That’s called REALLY knowing your audience.” You can check out more of the impassioned responses below.

Not only are Negroni Spagliato moments back, but HBO’s House of the Dragon isn’t simply setting us up with the human drama to come (Team Black vs. Team Green) and is giving the audience with they really want — scenes of dragon fire — in the above trailer.

The second season will pick up not too long after Rhaenyra learns of Luc and Arrax’s deaths due to Aemond decideding to be a jackass. And thus, the Targaryen Civil War is upon us, and the Dance of the Dragons shall begin. The above trailer doesn’t shy away from showing us how the roaring beasts will do their riders’ bidding, and of course, this will not end well for most of them.

Nor does Daemon appear to be setting himself up to be liked this season, since there’s the suggestion that he’s refusing to answer whether his wife is his true queen. Dude is really asking for it, and it sounds like he will be as messy as his literary counterpart when the war really gets going. This season will continue adapting George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood (more on that here), which began around 200 years prior to the start of Game of Thrones.

HBO’s House of the Dragon returns on Sunday, June 16 at 10:00pm EST, when it will (barring any technical difficulties) concurrently stream on Max.

Charli XCX is preparing for her Brat girl summer. The album is due out on June 7, and Charli wet fans’ appetite with “360,” an effervescent single that arrived with a video in which she and a dizzying number of celebrities band together to “fulfill the prophecy of finding a new hot internet girl.”

Elsewhere, the internet was set ablaze by Camila Cabello collaborating with Lil Nas X, Post Malone releasing his long-teased, Morgan Wallen-assisted “I Had Some Help,” Stray Kids recruiting Charlie Puth, and The Chainsmokers returning to their dance-pop roots with their No Hard Feelings EP.

Charli XCX — “360”

Charli XCX’s “360” video co-stars the likes of Julia Fox, Chloë Sevigny, Gabbriette, Emma Chamberlain, Rachel Sennott, and more. Charli is called to a dinner, where they have all convened to identify “a new hot internet girl.” Charli is peeved because she needs to perform her new song, but she upholds her duty by bestowing the honor on the unsuspecting waiter. Then, Charli starts singing “360,” which directly references Fox, Gabbriette, and A.G. Cook.

“360” picks up where “Von Dutch” left off, with Charli asserting her star power (“Internationally recognized / I set the tone, it’s my design”) and bragging on the chokehold her mythology has on everyone (“I’m your favorite reference, baby”). Brat cannot drop soon enough.

Camila Cabello Feat. Lil Nas X — “He Knows”

Last week was especially busy for Camila Cabello. She announced C,XOXO, her forthcoming fourth solo studio album, attended the Met Gala while holding a block of ice as her purse, and released “He Knows” featuring Lil Nas X. It would also appear that she and Lil Nas X (and Ed Sheeran?) filmed visuals for “He Knows” at the Met Gala. And what is more pop than frolicking around the Met Gala? Perhaps only the aforementioned dinner to christen the new hot internet girl. Anyway, in the club-ready song, Cabello sings about her keen awareness that she is utterly mesmerizing (“He’s wrapped around my pinky finger / Watchin’ the way I move / More drunk on power than on liquor / And he knows it’s true”), and Lil Nas X delivers a provocative verse to double down on their sex appeal.

“He Knows” follows “I Luv It” featuring Playboi Carti — Cabello surprise-performed it at Coachella 2024 — as singles from C,XOXO. The album is due out on June 28.

Stray Kids Feat. Charlie Puth — “Lose My Breath”

Stray Kids and Charlie Puth don’t need any validation from inclusion in this column that “Lose My Breath” is a hit because the song’s video is closing in on 17 million views, and Stray Kids’ reaction video to the music video attracted over 932,000 views. So, yeah, people responded in kind to the extremely catchy love song that checks all the boxes of a classic pop song.

The Chainsmokers — “No Shade At Pitti”

An embarrassing and unsolicited admission: I agonized over whether to feature “Tennis Court” or “No Shade At Pitti” from The Chainsmokers’ No Hard Feelings EP, but “No Shade At Pitti” slightly won out. The entire six-song project is a vivid callback to The Chainsmokers’ early days — when Alex Pall and Drew Taggart first established themselves as dance-pop connoisseurs. “No Shade At Pitti” exemplifies the return to their most worn artistic pocket, meshing their original sound with a matured perspective, which results in a potent nostalgia rather than a stale retread.

RM — “Come Back To Me”

BTS’ RM is quickly forging a viable solo career. “Come Back To Me” arrives as the first single from RM’s previously announced sophomore solo album, Right Place, Wrong Person, due out on May 24. The acoustic-backed, lulling, alt-pop song showcases RM’s artistic range outside of his undeniable stature as a K-pop icon.

Post Malone Feat. Morgan Wallen — “I Had Some Help”

All anybody can talk about is Post Malone going full send into country music, and that’s fair. If a song features Morgan Wallen, it has to be categorized as country. Country is the engine propelling their heavily teased collaboration, “I Had Some Help,” but more than that, the inevitably ubiquitous summer anthem is the latest example of Post’s generational talent to genre-bend and craft pop-adjacent smashes.

Loreen — “Forever”

Loreen described “Forever” as “spiritual pop” to Billboard, and it certainly suits the ascendant pop banger. The Swedish singer-songwriter performed “Forever” at Eurovision — a competition she won in 2012 and ’23 — over the weekend, and she will surely incorporate it into the setlist for her newly announced 2025 tour.

MILLENNIUM PARADE — “GOLDENWEEK”

MILLENNIUM PARADE dropped “GOLDENWEEK,” and the song’s hybrid, unconventional structure is an appropriate introduction to the emerging Tokyo-based collective’s multidisciplinary artistry. Lead singer Daiki Tsuneta, who also fronts J-Pop rock band King Gnu, sings, “I’m wide awake / But I’m stuck in a dream / Feels like I’m dreaming.” Fittingly, the song’s hypnotizing sonic makeup transports listeners inside of a hazy dreamscape — an insulated, safe space for Tsuneta’s blunt confessions (“Monsters in my head / Don’t take me alive / They all want me dead / I don’t wanna die”).

Role Model — “Deeply Still In Love”

Last fall, Role Model (real name Tucker Pillsbury) endured a very public breakup from longtime girlfriend Emma Chamberlain. The wistful March single “Oh, Gemini” thematically pairs cohesively with Role Model’s latest single, “Deeply Still In Love,” while “Deeply Still In Love” offers a contrasting upbeat sound. Role Model pulls off the acrobatics of delivering lyrical vulnerability in a flirty, playful tone. He’s trying his damndest to move on, but try as he might, he recognizes he can’t speed up the healing process.

Olivia O’Brien — “Glimpse Of Me”

As explained in this Instagram caption, Olivia O’Brien wrote “Glimpse Of Me” about two years ago in Nashville, but the song’s narrative is evergreen — one of bold reclamation and self-esteem.
