Ariana Grande Will Return To Her Broadway Roots In A Livestream Concert With Two Theater Icons

Ariana Grande first came to mainstream pop culture prominence with her role as Cat Valentine in the Nickelodeon series Victorious, but her career in entertainment actually began before that. When she was 15 years old, in 2008, she made her Broadway debut in the musical 13. Now Grande is set to return to her roots on an upcoming livestream concert, for which she will join two Broadway icons.

Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown usually makes a monthly appearance at Manhattan venue SubCulture, but for obvious reasons, that will not be happening in April. Instead, he is hosting a livestream concert, and he will be joined by Grande. Brown, by the way, created 13, Grande’s debut Broadway show. The two will also be joined by Shoshana Bean, who has performed in productions of Hairspray and Wicked, among other notable shows.

The performance will benefit SubCulture staff, and it is set to take place on Monday, April 27 at 8 p.m. ET on SubCulture’s Facebook page and Brown’s Vimeo channel.

Brown said of the performance, “I had to figure out some way to let these notes and words in my head come out and be shared with my collaborators and my audience, and so, here we are. All of us in our homes, making music however and whenever we can, with an amazing team to help pull it all together, and two of the greatest singers on the planet Earth: the patron saint of the SubCulture Residency, Shoshana Bean, and Grammy-winner, icon and total theater nerd Ariana Grande. We’ve put together a show about what we’ve lost, what we’ve discovered and what we’re grateful for, and I can’t wait to share it with you.”

Tessa Blanchard Skipped Impact’s Rebellion Event Because Of COVID-19

She might be a controversial figure with an alleged history of racist language and bullying, but Tessa Blanchard remains at the top of Impact Wrestling, as their World Champion and biggest star. However, last night was the first night of Rebellion, an Impact event that was originally planned as a PPV and became a two-night show on AXS thanks to the Coronavirus Pandemic that has made live events with audiences unsafe and rearranged everyone’s plans.

Unexpectedly, similar health and safety concerns led Tessa Blanchard to skip the event entirely, forcing a change to the main event. The original plan was a Triple Threat for the World Championship with Tessa defending against Michael Elgin and Eddie Edwards. When Tessa didn’t show up, Elgin cut a promo claiming it was because she’s afraid to fight him. Tessa responded on Twitter:

She then went on to apologize to fans for missing the event.

The other big news out of Impact Rebellion is that Willie Mack defeated Ace Austin to become the new X-Division Champion. This is Mack’s first title in Impact, and he’s a really likable performer, so it’s cool to see him get a run with a belt.

Also, Crazzy Steve returned to Impact. Decay fans rejoice.

Pierce Brosnan Saved Halle Berry From Choking While They Were Filming A James Bond Sex Scene

Die Another Day is widely considered to be Pierce Brosnan’s worst movie as James Bond movie, and one of the worst James Bond movies overall. The most positive thing I can think to say about it is: at least it didn’t kill Halle Berry.

On Tuesday’s episode of The Tonight Show, Berry, who played the wonderfully-named Jinx Johnson in the 20th Bond film, told host Jimmy Fallon about the time Brosnan saved her from choking. “One time, I was doing a scene with Pierce Brosnan in Die Another Day and I was supposed to be all sexy and, like, trying to seduce him with a fig — and then I end up choking on it,” she said. “And then he had to get up and do the Heimlich [maneuver]. So not sexy. Like, so not sexy.” That 007, what a cool customer.

MGM

You got me: I was looking for any excuse to use that photo.

Anyway, the sex scene in question involves the aforementioned fig and a knife, and according to IMDb (always accurate), “For the theatrical release, seven seconds were cut from the Jinx/Bond sex scene to secure a PG-13 rating in the US; this version was released on home video. All video versions released in or after 2006 are uncut. The main difference between the two is that Jinx moans loudly in the uncut version.” She’s not moaning from pleasure — she’s moaning because she can’t talk while choking on a fig.

No wonder peaches are “in” now. Harder to choke on those.

Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit Will Release Their ‘Reunions’ Album A Week Early On One Condition

Jason Isbell is gearing up for the release of his upcoming record Reunions. The singer has previewed the album through the singles “Only Children,” “What’ve I Done To Help,” and “Be Afraid.” But as the singer is looking to release the album amid an unexpected pandemic, Isbell has become concerned with how the release will impact record stores. So, the singer has found a solution that will benefit his fans and independent record stores alike.

Last month, Isbell shared his concern about how digital-only releases during this time will impact independent record stores. Isbell wrote on Twitter that he doesn’t “want to release an album online right now and add to their troubles.” But since many states have extended a stay-at-home order until after his Reunions record is released, Isbell cooked up a plan that will benefit both record stores and his fans. Isbell is releasing Reunions a week early only to independent record stores. Fans can pick up a physical copy of the album ahead of its scheduled release, all while financially assisting their local record store.

Isbell shared the news on social media. “That’s right folks,” he wrote. “Order the album through an independent record store and you’ll get it before everybody else.”

Ahead of his early release announcement, Isbell elaborated on Reunions‘ theme in a statement: “There are a lot of ghosts on this album. Sometimes the songs are about the ghosts of people who aren’t around anymore, but they’re also about who I used to be, the ghost of myself. I found myself writing songs that I wanted to write fifteen years ago, but in those days, I hadn’t written enough songs to know how to do it yet. Just now have I been able to pull it off to my own satisfaction. In that sense, it’s a reunion with the me I was back then.”

Reunions is out 5/15 via Southeastern Records. Pre-order it here or find it at a local record store.
