A Criminal Complaint Alleges Jontay Porter Was ‘Encouraged’ To Clear Gambling Debts By ‘Withdrawing From Certain Games Prematurely’

The basketball world was rocked earlier this year by the news that Jontay Porter, the brother of Denver Nuggets star Michael Porter Jr. and a member of the Toronto Raptors on a two-way contract, would receive a lifetime ban from the NBA for violating the league’s gambling rules. There were plenty of details that the league announced following its investigation into the allegations, and on Tuesday, we learned a bit more thanks to a criminal complaint that was filed in federal court in Brooklyn against a man named Long Phi Pham.

You can read the whole thing here, but while Porter’s name does not come up — there is only a reference to “Player 1” — all the events in here match up with the two games that came under scrutiny. Perhaps the most damning thing in here is that Porter allegedly accrued so much gambling debt that he was “encouraged to clear those debts by withdrawing from certain games prematurely.”

In early 2024, Player 1 had amassed large gambling debts to certain of the co-conspirators. Player 1 was encouraged to clear those debts by withdrawing from certain games prematurely to ensure that under prop bets on Player 1’s performance were successful. On January 22, 2024, Player 1 sustained a purported eye injury during a game. He was evaluated and diagnosed with a corneal abrasion, but was not placed on the NBA injury list. Shortly before the game on January 26, 2024 (the January 26 Game) Player 1 told the defendant that he would be removing himself early from the game, claiming that he was injured. Player 1 entered the January 26 Game midway through the first quarter. After playing just four minutes and recording zero points, three rebounds and one assist, Player 1 removed himself from the game after he complained to team officials that he had reaggravated the eye injury.

This would be in reference to Porter’s game on Jan. 26 against the Los Angeles Clippers, and it had previously been reported that there was some serious money on his various unders during that game. Elsewhere in the complaint are details about the other game that came under scrutiny — Porter exiting a game in March against the Sacramento Kings after less than three minutes. Two weeks later, after the allegations came to light, Porter allegedly contacted all of the co-conspirators in the case and claimed that the group “might just get hit w a rico.” There are three other co-conspirators in this case, but they remain at large.

Sexyy Red Seemingly Distanced Herself From Trump Following Her Controversial Roots Picnic Performance

Sexyy Red has the summer on lock with her hit single, “Get It Sexyy.” As the song has gone viral, Sexyy has become a household name, and as her star rises, she has one mission — to Make America Sexyy Again.

While everyone can get behind the idea of making America “Sexyy,” most fans aren’t exactly thrilled about the delivery. Sexyy’s slogan sounds very much similar to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.” Her performance at Roots Picnic 2024 last week sparked some more controversy, when she performed in front of a giant red hat, which read “Make America Sexyy Again.”

After some buzz online, Sexyy took to Twitter to offer clarification and distance herself from Trump.

“It’s Sexyy Red 4 President,” she said. “I’m my own candidate I’m not endorsing anybody period.”

While fans appreciated the clarification, it’s not hard to understand why some may have been confused.

Last October, Sexyy vocalized her support for Trump on comedian Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast.

“I like Trump,” she said. “Yeah, they support him in the hood. At first I don’t think people was f*cking with him. They thought he was racist, saying little sh*t against women. But once he started getting Black people out of jail and giving people that free money. Aww baby, we love Trump. We need him back in office. We need him back because, baby, them checks. Them stimulus checks. Trump, we miss you.”

Thanfully, it appears Sexyy has changed her mind.

Report: The Lakers Are ‘Infatuated’ With JJ Redick As Their Next Head Coach

The worst-kept secret in the NBA is seemingly about to come to fruition, as the Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly very close to. hiring ESPN personality JJ Redick their next head coach. While it’s been reported for weeks that the Lakers held the retired sharpshooter in extremely high regard as they looked to find a replacement for the recently fired Darvin Ham, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on Tuesday that the franchise was “zeroing in” on appointing Redick.

Charania laid out what the Lakers were looking for in a coach, and noted the franchise eventually became “infatuated” in the potential Redick has on the bench.

The Lakers have been seeking a coach who has the potential and staying power to be their head man for now and the long-term, as someone who will command the locker room and hold players accountable, as well as tirelessly gameplan and provide a level of structure and organization, according to those sources.

Redick has never been a coach before. Once his lengthy playing career came to an end, Redick entered the media space, as he became a podcast host and ESPN personality. Currently, he hosts two podcasts: “The Old Man and the Three,” and “Mind the Game,” the latter of which he co-hosts with Lakers star LeBron James, who reports indicate was not involved in the hiring process. Additionally, Redick is part of ESPN’s top booth for its NBA broadcasts, alongside Mike Breen and Doris Burke, and will begin calling the NBA Finals between the Mavs and Celtics on Thursday night in Boston.

‘That ’90s Show’ Part 2: Everything To Know So Far Including Release Date, Cast, And Trailer

That '90s Show
Netflix

Netflix has successfully managed to revive a few franchises of yesteryear in a way that nobody thought possible. The king of those series happens to be Cobra Kai, which will return later this year for a sixth and final season. Additionally, That ’90s Show picked up in Red and Kitty’s basement like no time had passed other than their attendees being born in a completely different decade. The series ended up racking up views (the Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis joint cameo surely helped), and Netflix swiftly greenlit an additional two “parts” (or seasons).

The second installment of this kitschy show is nearly up on us, so let’s discuss what will come next:

Plot

Netflix

Red and Kitty remain the glue that holds everything together in this series, which largely revolves around their granddaughter, Leia Foreman (Callie Haverta), who is the daughter of original series characters Eric Forman (Topher Grace) and Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon). Naturally and with Leia only on hand for summer vacations, and plenty of drama results from the long distance factor involved with this group of friends/couples. Expect that semi-tension to prominently factor into the coming episodes.

The show is now firmly sitting in the mid 1990s (1996 to be precise), and here’s where the action picks up in Part 2:

Leia Forman is back in Point Place for another summer of fun with her friends and grandparents, Kitty and Red. Leia and Jay are excited to be together again after nine months of long distance. But she’s on edge since Jay still doesn’t know she almost kissed Nate. Nate is concerned that his girlfriend, Nikki, doesn’t know either. How long can they keep this secret? Turns out, not long at all. And when the truth finally comes out, relationships are threatened, friendships are at stake, and the summer is on the verge of ending before it even gets started.

Additionally, Leia’s mom is on the scene with Laura Prepon doing the guest star thing in what is hopefully more than a quick cameo.

Cast

Returning cast members include Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp (who also executive produce) along with Callie Haverda, Mace Coronel, Maxwell Acee Donovan, Ashley Aufderheide, Reyn Doi, and Sam Morelos.

Guest stars are also where it’s at here. Laura Prepon will represent from the original core cast (no Mila Kunis or Ashton Kutcher this time, and definitely no Danny Masterson). Additional appearances will come from Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes (oh boy) along with Tommy Chong, Will Forte, Seth Green, Lisa Loeb, Carmen Electra, Wayne Knight, Matt Rife, and Kadeem Hardison.

Release Date

As is the case with many returning Netflix shows these days, different chunks of episodes are arriving on different dates. This series is working in “parts” rather than seasons, too, so expect to see Part 2 on June 27th and Part 3 on October 24th.

Trailer

Leia is looking metal in the below trailer, so have at it.

Colin Cowherd On The Media’s Reaction To Caitlin Clark And Chennedy Carter: ‘They’re Not Fragile, We Are’

cowherd top
FS1

The WNBA has become a leading topic for sports television this year, as the league’s audience has boomed alongside a larger explosion in popularity in women’s hoops, spearheaded by Caitlin Clark. While growth is a good thing for the WNBA, it does come with a price in the form of everyone offering extremely strong takes on things, even if those takes are often half-baked.

Things got particularly weird over the weekend and early this week, as an incident between Clark and Chennedy Carter, in which the latter was given a flagrant foul upon league review for knocking the rookie star down, became the story in sports and led to some truly wild takes and contentious moments. For whatever reason, that incident made people lose their minds, but it also might’ve been a good thing long-term, as it sparked a larger conversation about how the media — and especially prominent men in the media — need to approach the WNBA.

Kendrick Perkins called on the likes of Stephen A. Smith, LeBron James, Pat McAfee, and Charles Barkley to all take more care with the words they use, as well as doing the work needed to cover the league with the respect it deserves — and gets from those who have covered it for a long time. On Tuesday, Colin Cowherd explained that all the hand-wringing and, frankly, weird and overprotective way people are discussing Clark is a reflection of the media being the fragile ones, not Clark or the WNBA players.

As Cowherd notes, the players are mostly doing what players do in every professional league. A new hotshot rookie arrives. Established players want to test her. Other rookies want to prove they’re the next star. Things get settled on the court and, even if there’s chippiness or a line crossed, it’s handled and everyone moves on. The problem is when folks in the media, largely those prominent men now commentating on it, can’t handle or discuss the WNBA like they would any other sport.

That, along with Perk’s commentary, is the strongest and best critique I’ve seen yet about the entire situation. We should talk about the Clark-Carter kerfuffle, because it’s worth discussing, but it should be done in the same way we would when something like that happens in the NBA, without it becoming a proxy battle in a larger culture war.

Kaytranada And Channel Tres ‘Drip Sweat’ All Over The Dance Floor In Their Pulsating New ‘Timeless’ Single

The video for “Drip Sweat,” the new single by Kaytranada and Compton house-hop rapper Channel Tres from Kaytra’s upcoming album Timeless, is slippery, steamy, and wet. The two dance music mainstays throw a packed rave in a building’s lobby, complete with strobe lights and a blasting sprinkler system. Think of the rave scene from Blade with more Black people and less blood.

The song is the second single from Timeless after Kaytranada revealed that the previously released “Lover/Friend” with Rochelle Jordan and “Stuntin” also with Channel Tres, were the introductory singles for the album cycle. The album is Kaytra’s first since 2019’s Bubba, which won a Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album and a Grammy for Best Dance Recording for its single “10%.”

Although Kaytranada hasn’t released a solo album in five years, he maintained a presence in the limelight thanks to his collaborations with IDK (Simple) and Aminé (Kaytraminé). He also produced underground hits for R&B stars like Anderson .Paak, Joyce Wrice, Ravyn Lenae, and Victoria Monét, playing at last year’s Coachella with a slew of guest stars, including Kali Uchis. This August, he’ll be one of the performers at Aminé’s inaugural festival, The Best Day Ever.

Timeless is out 6/7 via RCA Records. Find more information here.

‘Jurassic World 4’: Everything To Know So Far About The Return Of The Dinos Reportedly Starring Scarlett Johansson

jurassic park
Universal Pictures

Both dragons and giant lizards might be having a moment lately, but in 2025, dinosaurs will be making a comeback! Again!

It was announced earlier this year that another Jurassic Park movie is on the way, just two years after Jurassic World Dominion rounded out the rebooted series. Life…..always finds a way. Just like movies.

David Koepp, the original screenwriter of the first three flicks, is set to pen the currently untitled sequel. The Fall Guy‘s David Leitch was initially in talks to direct, but he was replaced with Gareth Edwards, director of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and 2014’s Godzilla remake, so he definitely knows how to direct a big, scaly guy looking menacing on screen.

Edwards told Collider that he dropped everything to join the movie. “I was about to take a break and I started writing my next idea for a film and this is the only movie that would make me drop everything like a stone and dive right in,” he said, adding, “to work with Frank Marshall and Universal and David Koepp, who’s writing the script, I think they’re all legends. So I’m just very excited.”

Steven Spielberg will still serve as executive producer, because he really did bring dinosaurs to an entire generation of moviegoers. Here is everything else we know about the upcoming installment.

Plot

The plot is being kept under wraps, but we can make some assumptions! First: there will definitely be dinosaurs somewhere in the story. That is a given.

Aside from that, we don’t really know where the story will shape up. It’s possible that the new installment will continue where Jurassic World: Dominion left off in 2022 now that dinos and humans co-exist. Or, the entire story could be rebooted and remade using the original novel as a guideline. We likely won’t know for a while.

In 2022, Producer Frank Marshall told Slash Film that there are many places that the story can develop from here. “We obviously want to make quality, good movies with great storytelling, great writers and directors, but we’re definitely looking to do more in the Jurassic World.”

Cast

The Hollywood Reporter first reported that Scarlett Johanson is in talks to lead the film, though it has yet to be officially confirmed. Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is also eying a role in the franchise. Meanwhile, Bridgerton breakout star Jonathan Bailey is reportedly attached to star, along with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Rupert Friend. And a bunch of dinosaurs, hopefully.

Since there will be a whole new crew of dino hunters, it doesn’t seem like any of the original Jurassic Park icons will return. Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Chris Pratt, and Bryce Dallas Howard are not expected to reprise their roles in the upcoming sequel, though things can always change if Jeff Goldblum becomes too tired of doing all of those Apartment.com ads.

Release Date

Right now, the expected release date for the upcoming Jurassic Park is July 2nd, 2025, which feels quick. Filming is slated to take place this summer in Malta and early fall in London. Barring any complications or delays, it could be the blockbuster hit of next summer.

Trailer

There is no trailer just yet, but you can check out the animated series Jurassic World: Chaos Theory now on Netflix.

Woman explains why she ‘never returns’ her shopping cart, sparking huge debate

The “shopping cart theory,” supposedly sprung to life from an anonymous 4chan user in May 2020, states that whether or not a person returns their shopping cart is “the ultimate litmus test” for if said person is “capable of self governing.”

The theory surmises that since returning a shopping cart is both an easy and “objectively right” thing to do, but not legally enforced, “good” people will do so in an effort simply because it’s the right thing to do. Conversely, “bad” people won’t do it out of selfishness or entitlement.

However, forensic psychologist and mom Dr. Leslie Dobson seems to disagree with the concept, and recently went viral for explaining why she never returns her shopping cart.

“I’m not returning my shopping cart,” she said in a clip posted to TikTok. “You can judge me all you want.”

From her perspective, it’s a safety issue. “I’m not getting my groceries into my car, getting my children into the car and leaving them in the car to go return the cart. So if you’re gonna give me a dirty look…F- -k off.”

@drlesliedobson #groceryshopping #shoppingcart #traderjoes #protectourchildren #protectourkids #educational #groceries #singlemom #drleslie ♬ original sound – Dr. Leslie

Dobson’s take left viewers baffled, many of whom shared criticism in the comments section.

“Shopping cart return stations are all over the parking lot — so never really more than 20 seconds away and you still can’t be bothered?” one person wrote.

“I’m a single disabled momma. I have a placard and thus park in the handicap spots. I rely on the cart to help me walk and still walk the cart to the corral and hobble back to my car,” said another.

This prompted Dobson to share a follow-up video in which she stated that “Last year, 265 children were abducted in parking lots in America, half of those were sexually assaulted. As a single mom returning your shopping cart, you are prime for a predator to watch and grab you.”

@drlesliedobson

♬ original sound – Dr. Leslie

According to Fox News, that statistics comes from Kids and Car Safety, which reports that 265 cars had been stolen with children alone inside in 2022, though not all in parking lots. Also worth noting: the same fact sheet doesn’t mention sexual assault, however, it does say that theives frequently steal cars not knowing a child is inside, and will then abandon the car or the child on the side of the road.

In her video. Dobson also noted that in many states, like California, it’s illegal to turn your car on and walk away in a parking lot, and said that in certain congested cities like Los Angeles (where she resides) it could be a “12 minute walk” from the car to back to the store to return a shopping cart.

With both her clips, people argued that there were obvious ways to both return carts and keep kids nearby at the same time.

“1) put groceries in the car 2) walk with the kids in the cart to the cart house 3) return cart 4) walk back to the cars with kids,” one viewer wrote.

Another seconded, “mom of a 6yo, 3yo and 9months. I simply unload the groceries, return cart WITH kids, and then load them in. Same way that we got out of the car. Simple.”

Regardless of whether or not you agree with Dobson’s specific stance, it’s fascinating how this universal aspect of daily life reflects how individuals view society as a whole.

Back in 2017, anthropologist and author Krystal D’Costa wrote not one, but two articles for the Scientific American dissecting all the ways in which someone might or might not return their shopping cart. After receiving thousands of comments from “Returners,” “Never Returners” and everywhere in between, she concluded that no matter what category you might fall into, “the main point is that we all need to look around us and think not only about ourselves and our comforts but those of others.” That includes both cart abandoners and those that might judge them for doing so.

Bottom line: it’s often the way we handle the most mundane parts of our day that reflect our views on life as a whole. Maybe that’s why something like grocery etiquette becomes such a hot button issue so easily.

Mom calls on pediatricians to do better and encourages parents to advocate for girls of color

It’s not a secret that racial bias can sneak into medical setting. There have been studies that reveal some doctors still believe disproven beliefs like Black people have thicker skin, a higher threshold for pain or are “drug seeking” when requesting medication to manage their pain. These beliefs and others like them can become obstacles to appropriate and timely treatment.

When people think of these scenarios, they often think of these things happening to adults. Unfortunately, racial biases affect children of color as well which can delay vital treatment. A mom who goes by the screen name Nursebblay put out an urgent PSA for parents who have Black and Latina girls after her experience with her daughter’s pediatrician.

Nursebblay is mom to a Black 7-year-old girl who started showing concerning signs of early puberty, which prompted the mom to schedule an appointment with the pediatrician. But to her surprise, her concerns about her very young daughter starting puberty were dismissed.

She explains that her daughter started to have increased perspiration, attitude changes and pre-pubescent hair growth. When meeting with the pediatrician about the puberty symptoms, the doctor informs the worried mom, “‘yes, this is early puberty and had your daughter been caucasian we would order further testing and evaluations.’ But because my daughter is Black and Black and Latina girls go through puberty really early he felt that nothing else was necessary, we were good to go.”

Thankfully the mom isn’t accepting of that answer and pushes to see a pediatric endocrinologist to double check. The specialist responds to the mom in an email expressing the same sentiment is expressed calling it “normal.” Nursebblay replies demanding that her daughter be treated based on symptoms and not the color of her skin.

See her video plea here:

@nursebblay

As a mom I want personalized care for my children. All peoole should be treated based on the symptoms that they are having. My daughter was inly 7 years old when she started having symptoms, and we were dismissed. #parentingtips #parentingjourney #parentinghacks #tipsparenting #homeschooling #ilmuparenting #parentlife #homeschool #draisahdahlan #kidsbelike #gentleparenting #raisingkids #parentingana #parenthood #parentsoftiktok #toddlertantrums #childcare #kidsactivities #toddlerlife #labtestforkids #toodler #tumbuhkembanganak #sensoryplay #mom #prettyblackgirl #blackgirl #blackwomen #blackwoman #blackmen #blackgirlmagic #earthyblackgirl #blackgirlhairstyles #blackgirlcontentcreator #blackwomenoftiktok #blackgirlsrock #hairappointment #blackmenoftiktok #blackgirltiktokers #birminghamhairstylist #aliciakeysbraids #dreadslocks #locsoftiktok #pinkhair #blackgirltok #darkskin #brownskin #womenwithlocs #brownskingirl #darkskingirl #hispana #latinas #latinasbelike #hispanic #girlies #mexican #girly #prettygirls #citygirls #girlsbeinggirls #girlthings #womanhood #latina #latinastiktok #imjustagirlintheworld #girlproblems #imjustagirl #girlie #tallgirls #rbf #thickerthanasnicker #girlhood #girlll #girlypop #hottie #puertorican #imher #girlmath #oldermomsoftik #tallgirl #girlsnightout #girltok #girlsbelike #prettyprivilege #grils #yourworldwithin #evolved #questioned #threatened #buzzing #equally #ambitious #professionally #bouncing #klled #devastating #heavily #leapyear #grandkids #plotting #poorly #observation #disappearance #forsure #perceived #determined #thenvsnow #pandemic #terribly #procrastinating #tweak #realizing #thriving #embraced #thirty #sophomore #frostbite #tremendous #sexuality #flown #nutshell #TrendTok #TrendTokApp

After finally seeing the pediatric endocrinologist, the frustrated mom receives her daughter’s results. They’re abnormal. In fact the doctor wants to order an MRI and further testing to check the little girl’s adrenal glands.

In her follow up video, the mom is clear that she’s not using her platform to try to “take down” a doctor or the medical establishment. She’s using her platform to educate parents on this bias so they can properly advocate for their children. The mom is also putting a call out for medical providers to take these situations seriously no matter the ethnicity or race of the child as things could be missed. Commenters flooded her comments with gratitude and heartbreak for their own experiences.

See her follow up here:

@nursebblay

“This makes me so angry. This happened to us as well. Unfortunately by the time my daughter was seen her growth plates had closed. She was only 12 at the time,” one mom reveals.

“As a father of a Latina girl, I really appreciate this information, thank you mom,” one dad says.

“I always had symptoms and doctors dismissed it..my parents trusted doctors. They trusted their education. It’s not my immigrant parents fault! Now I’m in my 20s dealing w pcos & so many side effects,” another commenter writes.

“The same applies for boys…My son is 13 at 6’2″ at 200lbs. The doctors only focused on his weight and finally one listened and ordered an IGF test or insulin-like growth factor. His range was that of a man in his 20’s. Based on my own research if left untreated can lead to diabetes and endocrine, cardiovascular issues. Makes sense for PCOS,” a mom says.

This mom isn’t done advocating. In a more recent video she reveals she has taken the matter up with the hospital group’s policy makers to make a systematic change on how they treat different races of children. Hopefully her advocacy goes a long was as it doesn’t seem like she will be stopping any time soon.
