Cardi B And Ice Spice Cooled Off Rumors They Have Beef With A Cute Photo From ‘Vanity Fair’s Oscars Party

You know how women in hip-hop keep telling us that all the supposed beef between them is all in fans’ heads?

Cardi B and Ice Spice just proved it.

The above picture was taken at Vanity Fair‘s annual Oscars party this year. Ice Spice sent it to Cardi on Twitter after Cardi asked if she could see it while engaged in an intense discussion of race with an influencer, Raymonte Cole (it’s a long story).

After Cardi and Raymonte referenced Ice Spice, the “Think U The Sh*t” rapper popped up herself to offer a correction. Not appearing to take offense in the slightest, Cardi politely requested, “Can you send me that pic you took of me wit ya camera from vanity fair? Thank youuu.” Ice obliged, and with that, hopefully ended about a year’s worth of utterly nonsensical rage-farming, Twitter trolling, and Stan war flame-fanning that has honestly been tired since before anyone even know who Ice Spice was.

Of course, the primary drivers behind the discourse discord, the Barbz, are losing their sh*t, but at this point, I would hope we have all learned they deserve precisely none of our collective attention, especially because that’s all they seem to want. Y’all can, like, join a bowling league or something. Of course, some fans are STILL trying to frame the whole exchange in antagonistic terms but I guess life is either really messy or really boring over there.

Anyway, now that Ice Spice has apparently been in direct proximity with both Cardi B and Latto without violence, perhaps my dream of a “girl rap” Avengers carrying Joe Budden directly to the dumpster his podcast takes belong in is one step closer.

‘Suits: LA’ Season 1: All The Details You Need To Know For The Upcoming Spin Off (Update For April 2024)

Suits Cast
USA Network/NBCUniversal

The first eight seasons of Suits led Netflix’s streaming summer of 2023, which was enough to not only inspire a new rewatch podcast based upon the USA Network series but a brand new show, too. That is to say, the ninth season is also available to stream on Peacock, but that’s not enough for viewers. NBCUniversal saw the promising writing on the wall, which led to a recent greenlighting of Suits: LA.

That’s the power of Netflix resurrection, streaming, and curiosity about Meghan Markle (who of course portrayed Rachel) for you. The new series will arrive for NBC, however, and surely the show will also stream on Peacock. However, many questions remain to be answered before suiting-up time, and thus far, some answers are beginning to surface.

Plot

This spin off was perhaps inevitable, given the ongoing success of NBC’s Law & Order shows along with more on the way from the NCIS realm. As with the latter, Suits is swapping locations (NYC to LA). Will California-based Suits have a breezier vibe? We’ll have to wait and see, but the actual action will be filmed in Vancouver, which is fine because the New York-based series was filmed in Toronto (as are many other shows).

The pilot episode has been fast tracked, and ideally, a full-season order will come soon. The really good news is that this “extension” will come from original Suits creator and writer Aaron Korsh. Let’s do the logline thing:

Ted Black, a former federal prosecutor from New York, has reinvented himself representing the most powerful clients in Los Angeles. His firm is at a crisis point, and in order to survive he must embrace a role he held in contempt his entire career. Ted is surrounded by a stellar group of characters who test their loyalties to both Ted and each other while they can’t help but mix their personal and professional lives. All of this is going on while events from years ago slowly unravel that led Ted to leave behind everything and everyone he loved.

Thus far, Ted Black will be portrayed by Stephen Amell (from Starz’ recently cancelled Heels), and Josh McDermitt (Eugene from The Walking Dead) will be on hand as Stuart Lane, the old pal that helps form Black Lane Law. Together, they will conquer the worlds of entertainment and criminal law. Obviously, Los Angeles will be a good place to do both.

NBCUniversal has not even slightly confirmed that any original characters will return for the new show. However, the former cast did reunite for both a Super Bowl spot and the Golden Globes, so anything is possible. Gabriel Macht’s Harvey could always be on-call to mentor for crisis planning, and Patrick J. Adams — who might be busy with his new Netflix show before too long — has made it known that he is ready and willing to re-suit, no questions asked: “If I got the phone call, I’d be ready to suit up again. I loved the show, I loved the character and I loved working with all these people.” Make it happen.

Cast

We do know for sure that Meghan Markle won’t pop up as Rachel unless she somehow has a change of heart about revisiting acting. As mentioned already, Stephen Amell will portray Ted Black, and he will be joined by Josh McDermitt with Lex Scott Davis (The First Purge) as the leading lady.

The pilot has been held out as featuring an entirely new cast, although seriously, no one would be mad to see Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams (as well as Gina Torres and Sarah Rafferty) make a cameo appearance.

Release Date

NBC will likely want to get this baby out the door as quick as possible, so look for a late 2024 debut if the pilot goes well.

Trailer

There’s no way that a trailer would exist without any footage, so please relive Mike deciding that he’s already in “love” with Rachel upon their first meeting.

Who Is Cash Cobain? Meet The ‘Sexy Drill’ Rapper Who’s Taking Over With ‘Fisherrr’

Cash Cobain
Getty Image

There’s a new wave taking over the New York hip-hop scene, and one man is driving it forward with the sort of well-practiced panache that makes his eventual breakout an inevitability.

Bronx native Cash Cobain, who is also widely credited with the invention of so-called “sample drill” as a producer (he’s got a credit on Drake’s For All The Dogs, for instance), has sneakily become the vanguard for the next generation of artists coming out of NY’s chaotic and constantly evolving rap scene. Coining his one-man movement “slizzy,” a term he continues to throw around on song titles like “Slizzy Dialogue” to “Slizzy Talk,” Cobain has become the go-to guy for “sexy drill” — a version of the subgenre without its reputed signature focus on gang beef. As Cobain put it in a video interview with Complex, “We’re from New York. We’re gutter. We’re street. But we also wanna have a good time… We don’t wanna be on ‘kill time’ all the time.”

In case the popularity of his latest breakout viral favorite “Fisherrr” isn’t illustrative enough of this point, you only have to look at the results of his SlizzyFest concert at Irving Plaza in New York City. After fans overfilled the venue (perhaps driven by rumors of a possible Drake drop-in), getting it shut down in the process, Cash led the crowd from the venue Union Square Park, blasting his street hits “Dunk Contest,” “J Holiday,” and “Wavy Lady,” putting on an impromptu showcase without the constraints of concert hall decorum (you can read a first-hand account of the experience here).

With his penchant for indiscriminately sampling everything from YouTube videos to television theme songs, his career isn’t likely to see the sort of sudden explosion we’ve become accustomed to in the streaming era, but the grassroots groundswell he’s manifested won’t be limited to the internet for very long.

Check out Cash Cobain’s “Dunk Contest” and “Fisherrr” below.

Indie Mixtape 20: gglum Gets Off To A Scorching Start On ‘The Garden Dream’

gglum 2024
Hermione Sylvester

Secretly Canadian has been a tastemaking label for years now. So, when they sign a new artist, you should probably pay attention. On that front, one of the latest additions to their roster is gglum, who Secretly welcomed aboard in late 2023.

gglum, a pseudonym for London-born songwriter Ella Smoker, didn’t waste any time making herself comfortable and dropped her debut album, The Garden Dream, a few days ago. It’s a vulnerable project that sees a now-content Smoker looking back at her sometimes-less-than-stellar early days, through the lenses of styles like serene indie-folk, lo-fi rock, and more.

To celebrate the milestone release, Uproxx caught up gglum to discuss a potpourri of topics, everything from Britney Spears to pressing flowers to the importance of good posture. Check it all out in the latest Indie Mixtape Q&A, below.

What are four words you would use to describe your music?

Blue. Nylon Strings. Glum.

It’s 2050 and the world hasn’t ended and people are still listening to your music. How would you like it to be remembered?

I would want be a niche lost artist that a cult following of teenagers from 2050 discover and can bond over. They’ll say things like “I was born in the wrong era” and wear baggy jeans and Air Forces and bum bags.

Who’s the person who has most inspired your work, and why?

Phil Elverum. He was the person that made me realize I could write music in whatever way I wanted to.

Where did you eat the best meal of your life and what was it?

At Sketch in Oxford Circus. The restaurant with those egg toilets? I went for a signing celebration meal with my managers and it was the fanciest place I’d ever been. And the food was insane, I left thinking everything I could ever eat after that experience would taste like cardboard.

Tell us about the best concert you’ve ever attended.

My friends are in a band called Something In The Lake and they played a gig when we were in college at The Bread And Roses in Clapham, when they were called Helve. My favourite gigs are always when I get to watch my friends play, the energy in the room is always so much more exciting when it’s someone you know and you’re proud of.

What song never fails to make you emotional?

“All I Need” by Radiohead. It’s quite an obvious choice, but it’s well known for a reason. Listening to it feels like Thom Yorke has broken into your home and is personally ripping your heart from your chest.

What’s the last thing you Googled?

How to press flowers. When I was a kid in Finland I’d always have a look inside the books in a family members house to find pressed flowers between the pages. I’ve been needing a hobby so I thought I’d give it a go.

Where’s the weirdest place you’ve ever crashed while on tour?

I’ve never crashed anywhere particularly weird but I did have a nap in the back room of a pub in Bristol on tour once about 30 minutes before the show started.

What’s your favorite city in the world to perform and what’s the city you hope to perform in for the first time?

The best place I’ve performed so far is Cologne. The crowds there are so energetic and get really involved which I feel is rare. I’d really like to perform in New York. I’ve had a bunch of friends go on tour in America and they said that the crowds in New York are really fun to play to.

What’s one piece of advice you’d go back in time to give to your 18-year-old self?

Sort out your posture. It only gets worse and now it gives you headaches. Strengthen up them back muscles, it’ll make you look taller.

What’s one of your hidden talents?

I make really good buffalo wings in the oven and they come out crispy and everything.

If you had a million dollars to donate to charity, what cause would you support and why?

My first thought is a local food bank. So many people need them and I feel like not enough people support them. They’re so important.

You are throwing a music festival. Give us the dream lineup of five artists that will perform with you and the location it would be held.

Alex G, Radiohead, Paramore, King Krule, Thundercat. Somewhere pretty, like in the middle of some mountains in Greece haha.

What’s the story behind your first or favorite tattoo?

I have a tattoo on my arm that says Sunday. On the day I got it I wanted to be really reckless or ruin my life or something and decided a better idea would be to get a tattoo to fill the impulsive void. I didn’t have any ideas for what I particularly wanted so I just got the word Sunday because I like Sundays. It’s funny because a few months later someone I know got really drunk and got an almost identical “Sunday” tattoo so now I’ve got an accidental matching tattoo with them.

What is your pre-show ritual?

Panicking, jumping around and getting my band to stop me from running away. I get really nervous before gigs so I haven’t quite managed a proper pre-show routine, its mostly just me trying to chill out.

Who was your first celebrity crush?

Britney Spears. Although I’m not sure if I wanted to be with her or be her.

You have a month off and the resources to take a dream vacation. Where are you going and who is coming with you?

I would take my flatmates with me to a villa with a pool or something in maybe Greece or Spain or Italy. Actually Italy would be great! I love history so it would be super cool to see the Coliseum or Pompeii or something like that.

What is your biggest fear?

My fun formative years catching up with me health-wise. I used to think it would be worth it but now I’m thinking maybe not…..

Adam Sandler Really Wants Drew Carey In ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ As A Tribute To Bob Barker

happy-gilmore-ed-mcmahon-barker.jpg
Happy Madison Productions

Happy Gilmore will forever be one of Adam Sandler‘s funniest movies, but there’s a small black cloud hanging over the comedy that didn’t used to be there.

In the past year, Carl Weathers (“Just easin’ the tension, baby”), Bob Barker (“Now you’ve had enough… bitch”), and Joe Flaherty (“Jackass!”), all of whom appeared in the 1996 film, have died. With Happy Gilmore 2 in development, Sandler has an idea for how the sequel can pay tribute to the original cast.

“I would love [current The Price is Right host] Drew Carey to be in this movie out of respect to Bob,” he said on The Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday, according to Awful Announcing. “When we were writing stuff, Bob was alive. When we were writing stuff, Carl Weathers was alive. When we were writing stuff, Joe Flaherty was alive. It sucks, we love those guys. They were such a big part of the movie and just great people. But we’re going to get them involved somehow. They’ll be involved.”

Sandler also revealed what the bigwigs at Universal Pictures wanted Happy Gilmore to be called: Hole in Fun. This is reason #58,592,487 why art should be made by artists, not guys in suits (unless it’s Paul Feig).

Davido’s Dreams Will Come True In Madison Square Garden, Where He Promises A ‘Timeless’ Experience

Davido press image 2024
Tosin Gbadamosi

A three-year hiatus may be a big obstacle for some artists to recover from, but not Davido. The afrobeats star returned in 2023 with his fourth album Timeless, a 17-track effort that lived up to its name as it thrust Davido back into the spotlight — a place he’s called home for the better part of a decade. Davido’s legacy as one of afrobeats’ best artists is undoubtedly cemented in stone, but — in true African fashion — it should also be celebrated. That’s exactly what Davido will look to do when he takes over the legendary Madison Square Garden for a show that kicks off another run of Timeless performances.

“No rest!” the afrobeats star exclaims via Zoom call after I note his continued work amid a 12-month run of success. “These opportunities don’t come like that. So when God gives you a platform and gives you his blessings, you can’t take it for granted. [There’s] no time to waste at all, the world is looking at us. This is not the time to relax, I feel like there’ll be a time to relax. For now, we’re going hard — go hard or go home.”

Davido’s newfound focus follows a time where he admits “time was wasted,” but all of that is in the past. The future looks very exciting for the singer who is just as, if not even more excited to fulfill his lifelong dream of performing at Madison Square Garden. Ahead of that show, Uproxx caught up with Davido to hear about his plans for the MSG show, reflect on the Timeless, and dive into what the future looks like once he steps off the MSG stage.

It’s been a year since you released Timeless. What are your thoughts about the album when you look back at everything that’s occurred since its release?

2023 was crazy, man. A little hiatus [and] coming back with Timeless — a lot of people don’t get the opportunity to come back with a bang like that. I was fortunate to have a great team of producers, engineers, and writers who helped me with Timeless. After that, we did a six-arena tour, and sold every city out — it was crazy. [We] did shows around Africa, did a Timeless show in Nigeria, Timeless was nominated for three Grammys, my first time being nominated. It’s been a great year, I debuted for the first time [on] the Billboard Hot 100.

Is there anything in this Timeless era you wish you achieved that you haven’t yet?

I’m grateful so far for what God has done. I’m in my creative space right now. I definitely want to just keep dropping. I felt like, in the past, a lot of time was wasted, but now I’m focused. Timeless gave me that ginger and vim. It would have been amazing to have more time to do more with the Timeless album because it’s such a great body of work. I picked 17 songs from 80 songs. I’ve recorded at least another 40 [songs] now. I can’t just have all this music sitting. This is my Bitcoin, this is my cash. So yes, I wish I had more time. I’m doing better now, but I wish I had more money [laughs].

With your arena run last year, what was your favorite part of it that might’ve been new to you?

One show that was special to me was the Atlanta show. As a kid, my big brother used to take me to Hawks games all the time. Just walking in that building like, “Damn, I used to drive past this arena almost every weekend.” I used to go to school outside of Atlanta, close to Alabama. I’d come to Atlanta on the weekends, that’s where I was born. Atlanta is my family’s base outside of Nigeria. So I think that show was special [and] dope to me. One of the first shows where my whole family was in town. My dad, my aunties, it was just great to see people that saw me grow up in Atlanta look like, “Damn, that boy really did it.”

You’re the latest afrobeats artist to take the MSG stage. What are some things you plan to do differently to make this show the true Davido experience?

First of all, every artist has fans who like their music. So this is an opportunity for my fans to finally see me in The Garden. I want it to be on a very emotional night. I want us to party, I want us to cry, I want us to dance, I want us to talk [and] reason, and just celebrate the culture as a whole. I’m trying to see people in their African clothes. I don’t want to see the Dior, I want to see people come to celebrate Africa. I’m even trying to talk to the venue to get some African food — some jollof rice, some puff puff, some akara — just to give fans the whole African experience apart from the music.

Can we expect any special guests at the show? Any that you can reveal?

I got a lot of guests coming out. We have so much planned. The production… I’m damn near spending a ticket ($1 million) on the production just to make us look good. If you go all over the world, you have Nigerian doctors doing amazing things. You look to your right, you have Africans in sports doing crazy things. So [on] the music side, we have to hold it down. We’re trying to give the best production. It’s gonna be a night to remember, for sure.

Why has it always been a dream for you to perform at MSG? What about this venue specifically has been so special to you?

New York [and] the East Coast were one of the first places [in the US] to get hip to afrobeats, since time, even before it became mainstream. I remember doing a show in New York, about 9-10 years ago, and it was crazy. The fire marshall had to come, which just shows you that African music has been loved, since time. We just never got the opportunity to be in the big buildings [and] be in the big rooms, but good things last over time. I always knew the narrative would change. I remember walking by Madison Square Garden about seven years ago, and I was like, “Yo, man, I want to sell out this place.” The Garden is just different. I’ve sold out arenas all over the world, but The Garden is one for the books.

The relationship between the United States and Africa continues to grow strongly, especially when it comes to music. What do you think needs to happen or keep happening in order to preserve this relationship and even take it further?

First of all, I think ownership. We need to own our own. In Atlanta, I started this thing called Away Fest because I was like, “Why don’t we have our own Coachella? Why do we have to wait to get booked for these things when we can do it ourselves?” It took somebody one day to wake up and book an arena and sell out a show. It starts with a thought. We have so many amazing things back home. I’m talking about shooting more videos back home, showing the beauty of Africa.

The most important thing is not forgetting where you’re coming from and not being too thirsty for Western recognition. Africa is a whole continent, don’t forget that. If you’re supported by a whole continent, whatever support comes from outside is just a plus. So yes, we should appreciate the love we’re being shown overseas, but the most important thing is we should not forget where we come from.

After achieving a dream moment like performing at MSG, what comes next for you in your career?

I think we’re gonna add five more arena dates. My new album is almost done, so it’s about to be another ride. We’re about to shoot [the] “Kante” video with Fave and drop that. I have a documentary we’re working on. I want to invest in movies, I want to executive produce movies — there’s a lot of stuff that we’re planning. I’m building a new home, my dream home. [I] just [want to] keep pushing the culture and whatever God brings to our front we will receive it and be glad in it.

You’ve done a lot of collaborations since releasing Timeless (i.e. Chris Brown & Kizz Daniel), what are some others you’d like to make happen in the future?

I’m collaborating with a lot of people right now for the album, but I can’t spill that now. But people that I would love to collaborate with are Drake, for sure, Rihanna [too]. I’ve been listening to Jelly Roll, he’s really dope. But we got some people on the album. I don’t want to say too much. Africa-wise, I love amapiano so [I’m] definitely gonna do some more collaborations. Me and Musa keys did “Unavailable,” that went crazy. I got music coming with a lot of South African artists as well, so watch out for that.

Hannah Waddingham Was Left With ‘Chronic Claustrophobia’ From Being Waterboarded On ‘Game Of Thrones’

Hannah Waddingham Game of Thrones Unella
HBO

It’s been almost a decade since Hannah Waddingham starred in Game of Thrones as Septa Unella, a devout follower of the Faith of the Seven that had taken control of King’s Landing in season five. Her character put Lena Headey’s Cersei Lannister through a series of public and private humiliations before Unella found herself on the receiving end. That punishment involved an intense waterboarding scene that still haunts Waddingham to this day.

Thrones gave me something I wasn’t expecting from it, which was chronic claustrophobia,” Waddingham told Stephen Colbert, via Variety. “It was horrific. Ten hours of being actually waterboarded. Like actually. I’m strapped to a table with all these leather straps. I couldn’t lift up my head because I said that would be too obvious that it’s loose.”

However, while Waddingham has previously described the experience as the “worst day of her life” and a close second to childbirth, she told Colbert that torturing yourself for the hit HBO series was not uncommon:

“I’m on my way back [from set] with grape juice all in my hair so it went purple, I couldn’t speak because the Mountain had his hand over my mouth while I was screaming and I had strap marks everywhere like I had been attacked,” she continued. “One of the other guys who had been shooting something else was like, ‘You’re lucky, I’ve just been crawling through shit on my elbow for four days.’ It kind of doesn’t matter when you’re in Thrones. You just want to give the best.”

For The Second Year In A Row, Made In America Festival Is Not Returning, But Organizers Explained (Sort Of)

made in america
Getty Image

For the second year in a row, Made In America festival will not return to Philadelphia this summer.

Last year’s Made In America festival, during which, SZA and Lizzo were set to headline, was canceled as a result of “severe circumstances outside of production control.” Once again, Made In America announced the news today (April 3) via social media and the festival’s official website that it would not return for 2024.

The announcement came before a 2024 lineup or iteration was even announced. Though the reasoning was rather vague, Made In America says that festival will make a return at some point in the future.

“As purveyors of change, the Made In America executive production team is reimagining a live music experience that affirms our love and dedication to music and the work we do,” read the statement.

You can read the full statement below.

“Made In America will not take place in 2024.

Since its inception, this groundbreaking festival has celebrated music & community – from creating a space for fans to connect, to uplifting local small businesses & shining a light on important causes. It has strived for accessibility, eliminating barriers through affordable tickets and location.

As purveyors of change, the Made In America executive production team is reimagining a live music experience that affirms our love and dedication to music and the work we do.

We promise an exciting return to the festival.”
