A Lawsuit Alleges Kanye West Told Donda Academy Students He Wanted To Shave Their Heads And Lock Them In Cages

For a little while, Kanye West ran Donda Academy, a private school in California. It would seem that things at the educational institution have been… unconventional. At one point, school was apparently canceled for the year before that decision was reversed hours later. Later, a lawsuit claimed students were only served sushi. Now, Ye is facing another school-related lawsuit which makes even more wild claims.

The suit was filed by former employee Trevor Phillips in Los Angeles Superior Court on April 2. In it, Phillips claims (as NBC News notes) West told students he wanted to shave their heads and lock them in cages. Phillips also attests that West compared himself to Adolph Hitler and “appeared to simulate masturbation during a one-on-one meeting in a Southern California hotel room where the musician watched The Batman on mute.”

As Rolling Stone notes, the suit also claims West “treated the Black staff considerably worse than white employees” and would “scream and berate Black employees, while never even as much raising his tone at the white staff.” West also reportedly had issues with the LGBTQ+ community and claimed “gay people are controlled by Bill Gates so that they don’t have children for population control.”

The publication reports Phillips is “seeking at least $35,000 for what he labels as whistleblower retaliation, discrimination based on race, and a hostile workplace, among eight other causes of action.”

‘Predatory Use Of AI’ In Music Is The Target Of A New Open Letter Signed By Billie Eilish, Noah Kahan, Metro Boomin, And More

Ameca Robot AI Artificial Intelligence 2024

AI has become a hot-button topic in creative communities and beyond since consumer-level tools have become widespread over the past few years. Some feel it could threaten the livelihoods of artists, and now some recognizable names have signed an open letter from Artist Rights Alliance that aims to curb or prevent irresponsible use of these technologies.

Those who signed include Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, Noah Kahan, Metro Boomin, Katy Perry, J Balvin, Zayn Malik, Camila Cabello, Jonas Brothers, d4vd, Doechii, and Kacey Musgraves, among others.

The letter begins, “We, the undersigned members of the artist and songwriting communities, call on Al developers, technology companies, platforms and digital music services to cease the use of artificial intelligence (Al) to infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists.” It then considers both sides of the AI situation, saying, “Make no mistake: we believe that, when used responsibly, Al has enormous potential to advance human creativity and in a manner that enables the development and growth of new and exciting experiences for music fans everywhere. Unfortunately, some platforms and developers are employing Al to sabotage creativity and undermine artists, songwriters, musicians, and rightsholders.”

It goes on from there before concluding, “We call on all Al developers, technology companies, platforms and digital music services to pledge that they will not develop or deploy Al music-generation technology, content or tools that undermine or replace the human artistry of songwriters and artists or deny us fair compensation for our work.”

Find the full letter and list of people who signed it below.

“We, the undersigned members of the artist and songwriting communities, call on Al developers, technology companies, platforms and digital music services to cease the use of artificial intelligence (Al) to infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists.

Make no mistake: we believe that, when used responsibly, Al has enormous potential to advance human creativity and in a manner that enables the development and growth of new and exciting experiences for music fans everywhere.

Unfortunately, some platforms and developers are employing Al to sabotage creativity and undermine artists, songwriters, musicians, and rightsholders.

When used irresponsibly, Al poses enormous threats to our ability to protect our privacy, our identities, our music and our livelihoods. Some of the biggest and most powerful companies are, without permission, using our work to train Al models. These efforts are directly aimed at replacing the work of human artists with massive quantities of Al-created ‘sounds’ and ‘images’ that substantially dilute the royalty pools that are paid out to artists. For many working musicians, artists, and songwriters who are just trying to make ends meet, this would be catastrophic.

Unchecked, Al will set in motion a race to the bottom that will degrade the value of our work and prevent us from being fairly compensated for it.

This assault on human creativity must be stopped. We must protect against the predatory use of Al to steal professional artists’ voices and likenesses, violate creators’ rights, and destroy the music ecosystem.

We call on all Al developers, technology companies, platforms and digital music services to pledge that they will not develop or deploy Al music-generation technology, content, or tools that undermine or replace the human artistry of songwriters and artists or deny us fair compensation for our work.”

Where To Buy Glasses Made For A Solar Eclipse

eclipse
Getty Image

We are less than a week away from a once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse. During this total solar eclipse — set to take place on Monday (April 8) — the moon will pass between the sun and the Earth and, for a short time, will completely block the face of the sun, per an explanation by NASA. Because of this, it is important that viewers do not look directly into the sun as the eclipse is taking place.

To witness this spectacular phenomenon — which won’t occur again until August 2024 — spectators will need to obtain a special pair of glasses.

Where to buy glasses made for a solar eclipse

When looking for a pair of glasses it is vital that the glasses are approved to the ISO 12312–2 safety standard.

According to NASA and the American Astronomical Society, Dallas, TX will be the largest metropolis in the path of totality for the eclipse. Viewers in Texas can purchase special glasses from Texas-based retailers, including HEB and Buc-ee’s. Larger retailers, like Kroger, Ralphs, Fry’s, Lowes, Walmart, Staples and 7-Eleven also have eclipse glasses available for purchase.

Additionally, Warby Parker stores are offering pairs of eclipse glasses for free, limiting two pairs per customer.

LeBron James Says Bronny ‘Has Some Tough Decisions To Make’ Amid Transfer Portal Rumors

lebron james bronny

A rumor hit the internet on Tuesday afternoon that Bronny James decided to enter the transfer portal after one year at USC. The report itself wasn’t all that surprising, especially in light of Trojans coach Andy Enfield leaving to take the SMU job on the heels of a disastrous year.

The part that was a surprise, however, was how none of the major college athletics news breakers had it, and besides, it’d be so unlike the James family for big news to be announced by someone else. As such, after the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday evening, LeBron James got asked about the whole thing. And after making sure to say he wasn’t sure where these rumors came from, he did admit that there are some big decisions on the horizon for his eldest son.

“I don’t know where it came from,” James said. “But at the end of the day, Bronny’s his own man, he has some tough decisions to make, and when he’s ready to make those decisions, he’ll let us all know, but as his family, we’ll support whatever he does.”

Bronny’s year at USC got off to an unfortunate start when he went into cardiac arrest during an offseason workout. While he was eventually able to make his way onto the floor in December, he frequently looked like a true freshman, as he averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game.

Metro Boomin Blames Twitter Hacker For ‘Corny Ass Tweets’ After The Release Of ‘We Don’t Trust You’

metro boomin

Fans of super producer Metro Boomin caught wind of some strange Twitter activity over the past few days. The first “red flag” was the fact that a few days had gone by without Metro sharing his daily “Thank God for the day” tweet.

Today (April 2), Metro finally shared an update after regaining access to his account. He explained that on the day of the release of We Don’t Trust You — his joint album with rapper Futurehis iCloud was hacked, and he was logged out of his phone.

“all those corny ass tweets, all my day 1s know that’s nowhere in my character,” said Metro in a tweet. “All positivity always on my end. We blessed. It’s all love.”

Metro continued, explaining how the incident begun after receiving several calls from numbers with a Toronto area code. He later got a notification that he was logged out of his iCloud, and couldn’t use anything that required an Apple ID login.

While his phone was hacked, Metro discovered that the hacker went on a fairly expensive shopping spree.

According to a text he received from a rep at Balenciaga, the hacker attempted to order $23,000 worth of clothing and accessories.

Thankfully, the hacker couldn’t place the order, as they didn’t have Metro’s CVV number.

Unfortunately, a Louis Vuitton duffel bag Metro ordered before the hack was shipped to the hacker’s address.

Reasonably upset, Metro shared that he is “going to sleep now” following the whole ordeal.

Shaq And Candace Parker Shared A Special Moment After Showing Highlights Of His Daughter, Me’Arah

shaq me'arah o'neal
TNT/ESPN

On Tuesday night, Shaquille O’Neal was in his usual spot on the TNT desk alongside Candace Parker, Jamal Crawford, and Adam Lefkoe as they had their weekly doubleheader, starting with the Thunder and Sixers playing in Joel Embiid’s return.

However, the game that was on Shaq’s mind had been played earlier in the afternoon in Houston, where his daughter, Me’Arah, was part of the West roster for the 2024 McDonald’s All-American Games. During halftime of the Thunder-Sixers game, the TNT crew had Parker do a highlight read of Me’Arah’s performance in Houston and shared a wholesome moment with the Big Fella (while also poking fun at the fact Me’Arah is already a better free throw shooter than Shaq). Shaq informed Candace that he used to have Me’Arah watch Parker’s highlights to model her game off of and thanked Candace for paving the way for his daughter to have a basketball career to aspire to.

That got Parker a bit wistful, and she returned the favor by talking about how proud she could tell Shaq was watching the game in the back, while Lefkoe and Crawford tried their best to coax some tears out of a defiant (but clearly emotional) O’Neal, who insisted they needed to go to break.

It’s a great moment and it is always cool seeing stars beaming with pride about their kids accomplishments. You could tell it meant a lot to Shaq that Candace was the one reading his daughter’s highlights and it was also awesome to see him give Parker her flowers on air, turning the tables a bit on the attempt to get the big man to let the tears flow on air.

Nicki Minaj Issued A Call For Fans To Take A Period Of Celibacy And ‘Find Out Who You Are’

Nicki Minaj has been packing arenas on her Pink Friday 2 Tour, which has fallen in good favor with the Barbz. Over the course of the tour, Nicki has been performing hit-after-hit from her catalog, which spans nearly two decades. She has also shown love to her loyal fan base, by sharing stories with them, shouting them out to the audience, and offering little tidbits of advice.

During her DC show last night, Minaj had some words to say in regard to practicing celibacy.

“Stop being a f*cking hoe,” Minaj said to the audience. “Abstain from sex and find out who you are first. And then, the universe will do it for you.”

Many of the Barbz cheered Minaj on, however, some found the message surprising. Over the course of her career, Minaj has been outspoken about her sexuality — notably with hits like “Anaconda” and “Super Freaky Girl.” But closer to the end of her spiel, Minaj made it clear that any vow of celibacy doesn’t have to be permanent.

“Abstain from sex for a little while,” Minaj said. “But if a [man] ever fumbled me, he stupid as f*ck.”

You can see a fan-taken video from the show above.

Metro Boomin Shared That His Phone Was Hacked, And The Hacker Tried To Order $23,000 Worth Of Balenciaga Products

metro boomin'

If Young Metro don’t trust you — well, you know how the tagline goes. And it looks like superstar producer Metro Boomin might have a new opp to look out for.

Over the past few days, fans of Metro noticed that he hadn’t shared his daily “Thank God for the day!” tweet, until today (April 2).

Many assumed he was still riding the high of his joint album We Don’t Trust You, featuring Future. But he explained that there was something more sinister at play.

“It all started 2 days before the album dropped and all these 416 numbers would call me back 2 back a million times,” said Metro in the beginning of a series of tweets. “It got so bad I had to keep my phone on airplane mode.” The tweet included a screenshot of several phone calls from different numbers, however, each of them were from the 416 area code — an area code from Toronto, Canada.

“I woke up 2 days after the album dropped,” Metro continued, “with my phone saying I was signed out of iCloud and I no longer had service on my phone.”

It would appear that Metro’s phone was hacked. And evidently, the hacker had some expensive taste.

“I eventually got an email from my Balenciaga rep asking me about an order I had placed and was confused af,” he said.

Thankfully, no orders actually went through. Metro’s contact at Balenciaga came through with screenshots, revealing that the hacker attempted to order some bags and some gaudy boots.

“I would never order these freaky ass boots,” said Metro.

The screenshots show that the hacker attempted to order the products to be delivered to Houston. Meanwhile, Metro has been in Atlanta with his family as these conversations are taking place. Additionally, the hacker attempted to order Chanel products from Balenciaga, which the Balenciaga rep immediately caught.

None of the hackers orders actually processed, as the Balenciaga rep couldn’t be duped. And, the hacker didn’t have Metro’s CVV number.

Nevertheless, Metro is unbothered and too busy reaping the fruits of his labor.

“#1 album. #1 song. It’s nothing like me to focus and attempt to thrive off negativity vs these blessings while I’m living through one of the biggest moments of my career thus far,” Metro said.

Iowa-LSU Was The Most-Watched Women’s College Basketball Game Of All Time

caitlin clark

Basketball fans were captivated by Monday night’s Elite 8 game between the Iowa Hawkeyes and the LSU Tigers. It was a rematch of last year’s national championship game, but this time, Caitlin Clark and co. were able to walk out with a 94-87 win, with the reigning national player of the year exploding for 41 points and 12 assists.

There was a whole lot of hype surrounding the game, and boy, did it deliver in a big way, as two of the most prominent teams in sports right now put on a show. And perhaps unsurprisingly, America tuned in and loved it, as ESPN brought word that the Hawkeyes and the Tigers played in the most-watched women’s college hoops game on record.

When compared to other major sporting events over the last year, this game stacks up incredibly well.

The game immediately after it drew a whole bunch of eyeballs, too, as Paige Bueckers and UConn’s win over JuJu Watkins and USC also did a monster number.

We won’t have to wait long to see Bueckers and Clark go head-to-head, as the Huskies and the Hawkeyes will meet up in the Final Four on Friday evening. The winner of that game will compete for a national title against either South Carolina or NC State.
