The wait for an aespa full-length studio album has been long, but it won’t last much longer. The South Korean K-pop phenomenon (and March 2023 Uproxx cover stars) announced Armageddon as their first LP with a 26-second trailer entitled “Armageddon INTRO.”

The video is vague, as is the case with any teaser worth anything, as we see an abandoned swampy crop circle up-close and then from the sky. The clip is soundtracked by eerie keyboard instrumentals.

Meanwhile, aespa created a collage with six Instagram grid posts that collectively reads, “ONLY I CAN DEFINE MYSELF.” The caption for each post confirms that Armageddon will be released on May 26.

aespa’s official website is home to even more teasing, with the same “ONLY I CAN DEFINE MYSELF” message — only, this time, it morphs into an ambiguous logo. The bottom of the website has a countdown clock alongside, “Starts from May 2.”

However, Billboard reports that the first single, “Supernova,” will be released on May 13. So, keep your eyes peeled for more aespa announcements sooner than later.

In the interim, GISELLE, KARINA, NINGNING, and WINTER will bring their World Tour In Cinemas concert film to the big screens on April 24 and April 27. Find ticketing information here.

One of the biggest songs of 2023 was Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj’s song “Barbie World,” which interpolated Aqua’s 1997 hit “Barbie Girl.” However, it wasn’t the only song to sample that song. In 2022, Saweetie previewed a clip of her own song, “Icy Girl, Icy World,” generating some impressive buzz months before “Barbie World” was tapped to feature on the Barbie film’s soundtrack. Unfortunately, her song was never released and fans awaiting the Bay Area rapper’s big comeback were left disappointed. While one of her collaborators on the song offered his own take on the situation, Saweetie never addressed why she shelved “Icy Girl”… until now.

When a fan on Twitter (never calling it “X”) posted a clip of Saweetie previewing the song during a livestream and asked, “What happened to this?” Saweetie’s response was short and simple. “Warner wouldn’t clear it,” she explained.

Although it appears Saweetie is still signed to the label, she hasn’t been shy about calling out Warner in the past. Earlier this month, she called on the label to approve the budget for the rollout of her single “Nani,” which she’s been teasing for weeks. And in 2020, she vented her frustrations with the label for flubbing the release of her song “Best Friend” with Doja Cat.

Meanwhile, although Saweetie said she didn’t mind Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice “borrowing” her idea for the Barbie soundtrack, her co-writer on the song, Jason Martin (fka Problem), censured the bigger star for what he saw as dirty business. “I can confirm this song and idea was sent to her last year to submit for the Barbie movie,” he posted on Twitter. “It’s sad to see that the original artist has been pushed off a song that was her idea and was meant for both of them.”

For a few days now, Fortnite Festival has been teasing a new season, its third. The green color of the promotional graphics had some thinking that Billie Eilish would be the headliner. Well, if you also made the prediction, you were correct.

Eilish herself confirmed today (April 22) that she will be playing the Fortnite Festival Main Stage, and soon: April 23, 2024.

As for what else will be going on in Fortnite Festival when the Eilish campaign begins, we don’t know for certain yet. But, we can look at past collaborations, like the recent one with Lady Gaga, for an indication.

Presumably, any Eilish-themed rewards will only be available via the Premium Track and not the Free Track. The Premium Track for the Gaga run included rewards like Chromatica Guitar, The Gaga Collection Loading Screen, Chromatica Keytar, “Poker Face” Jam Track by Lady Gaga, Enigmatic Gaga Outfit (aka “skin”). So, expect items of this ilk to be available starting tomorrow. As seen in Eilish’s post, the new Eilish skin hearkens back to her 2019 era, when her look was more green than it has been in recent years.

Who watches The Watchers? You will.

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for The Watchers, the directorial debut from Ishana Night Shyamalan, the daughter of M. Night Shyamalan (she was a second unit director on his previous films Old and Knock at the Cabin).

Based on author A.M. Shine’s novel of the same name, the Gothic horror film follows 28-year-old artist Mina, played by Dakota Fanning, “who gets stranded in an expansive, untouched forest in western Ireland. When Mina finds shelter, she unknowingly becomes trapped alongside three strangers who are watched and stalked by mysterious creatures each night.”

What does the Shyamalan family have against the outdoors? Jeez.

Shyamalan told IndieWire that The Watchers “ultimately expands into a sort of dark fairy tale, fantasy essence. And that’s the thing I really love most of all. In many ways, it’s using the horror genre to enter another space, and that becomes a surprise of the journey as well. So hopefully people will be vibing with it.” You can vibe with the trailer above.

The Watchers, which also stars Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan, and Olwen Fouéré (will Ishana make a cameo like her dad always does in his movies?), opens in theaters on June 14.

Kid Cudi broke his foot while performing at the second weekend of Coachella 2024, but his sense of humor is intact, at least.

“Hey, guys, yeah, sh*t got real yesterday,” Cudi said in a video posted to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday morning, April 22. “This is what happens when a 40-year-old man tries to prance around off stage like he’s 26 — like he used to do back in the day. I learned a valuable lesson: No more prancing around, jumping off stages.”

Cudi went on to explain that he’s “hoping” to be “healed up” in time for his Insano World Tour, which is scheduled to begin on June 28.

“I don’t want to let you guys down,” he said. “That’s what we’re aiming for. Not canceling anything just yet. Just gonna wait and see how things go, but I’m OK. A little sore. Yesterday, [I was in] a lot of pain, but I’m doing better now. I have a little temporary cast on now, and I gotta go get a real cast in a little bit. Apparently, I broke something in my heel. This is a major setback, but don’t worry. I’ma bounce back. I love y’all. All day. Engage the rage. But not at 40.”

Hopefully, Cudi wasn’t planning on getting married to Lola Abecassis Sartore — his newly announced fiancée — in the immediate future because a broken heel might complicate walking down the aisle.

Sega Bodega had one more single in his back pocket ahead of releasing Dennis, his album due out on Friday, April 26, and he deployed it this morning (April 22). The Paris-based artist and producer has dropped “True” alongside a lyric video.

The songs sets a delicate tone to start, with Bodega singing, “True little angel, hold me / Keep it true / Little angel told me / What to do.” Drums enter for a more ominous feel, and Bodega’s vocals are hushed in delivery but clear in message: “I cannot promise you a single thing, but I’ll try.” As the song progresses, the beat speeds up to create a sense of urgency.

“The intention with this album was to create a feeling of being as disorientated as I was for the past couple of years,” Bodega said of Dennis in a press release statement. “With AI and technology moving as fast as it is, I can imagine the possibility of making ‘worlds’ with ‘people’ inside who don’t know they’re not real. Who’s to say that I’m not already one of them?”

Prior to “True,” Bodega released “Kepko,” “Elk Skin,” and “Set Me Free, I’m An Animal.” The album’s vinyl release is set for May 6, but you can pre-order it here.

The 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is set to begin this Thursday, April 25, with over 100 acts from across a massive spectrum of styles and sounds. Known as Jazz Fest, the festival is one of the longest-running music festivals in the US, stretching from its foundation in 1970 to 2019. After a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021, it returned in 2022, bigger and better than ever.

The nonprofit organization The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation Inc. puts on the festival every year to redistribute the funds it generates to the local community while it “promotes, preserves, perpetuates and encourages the music, culture and heritage of communities in Louisiana through festivals, programs and other cultural, educational, civic and economic activities.”

The festivities will be held at Fair Grounds Race Course from Thursday to Sunday with a lineup including The Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, Chris Stapleton, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, The Killers, Hozier, Vampire Weekend, Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals, Queen Latifah, Jon Batiste, and many, many more, including local acts like Big Freedia, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, and Juvenile with Mannie Fresh. An abundance of movie franchises and TV shows are spinning off or rebooting with increasing frequency. So, it was only a matter of time before The Office resurrected itself for a new (U.S.-based) incarnation, too.

That development began to make headlines in January, which is when the Puck newsletter began to pass on speculation and then Deadline reported that series co-creator Greg Daniels had put together “a development room with his trusted writers” to plot the next step in this world. The plan, at the time, was apparently not to reboot the Dunder Mifflin cast and setting but to set a same-world story “in a new office with new characters,” so get ready for a whole new crop of faces.

That is, get ready to wait and see if this project comes to fruition with a series order, but it sounds like it will, and Deadline now reports that casting is starting to come together. Domhnall Gleeson (known for his work in the Harry Potter and Star Wars worlds along with turns in The Patient and Ex Machina) and Sabrina Impacciatore (an Italian actress who recently made waves with the The White Lotus audience) are the first names in the mix:

The potential new Greg Daniels and Michael Koman comedy series in The Office universe has locked in its first two stars: Domhnall Gleeson (The Patient) and Sabrina Impacciatore (White Lotus), who will be part of an ensemble, sources close to production tell Deadline. Details regarding their roles are under wraps. The Office studio Universal Television declined to comment, other than to confirm that the project remains in development.

Daniels is collaborating upon the new show’s development with Nathan For You co-creator Michael Koman. Presumably, the mockumentary feel of the franchise will continue, although surely, we can expect some adjustments to update the offshoot for current TV audiences.

One of the best TV shows of the year comes to an end this week.

Episode 10 of FX‘s tragic and epic Shōgun, “A Dream of a Dream,” will be available to watch at 12 a.m. EST on Tuesday, April 23, for Hulu subscribers, followed by an FX broadcast at 10 p.m. EST later that day. Here’s the official logline: “In the wake of a tragic death, Blackthorne finally considers the true nature of Toranaga’s plan.” The episode was written by Maegan Houang and Emily “Mother of Blankies” Yoshida, and directed by Frederick Toye.

Episode 10 is the season finale — is it also the series finale?

“We took the story to the end of the book and put a period at the end of that sentence,” co-creator Justin Marks previously told The Hollywood Reporter. “We love how the book ends; it was one of the reasons why we both knew we wanted to do it — and we ended in exactly that place.”

He continued, “You know, we also made this show so long ago, because of the long tail of postproduction on it. It’s not like a normal TV series, where if we were in a situation like this promoting it, we wouldn’t just be in the writers room already, we’d be on set shooting season two by now.”

That sounds like a “it’s done” to me. Enjoy Shōgun while you can, folks.

Coachella 2024 is in the books and Coachella 2025 is already in the works, but if you happened to miss both weekends of this year’s festival — or just want to relive your favorite sets — where can get your ‘Chella fix for the time being?

Weekend two proved to be just as eventful as the first, with Friday night headliner Lana Del Rey bringing out Camila Cabello to perform “I Luv It,” Lil Uzi Vert showing off their fabulous new Birkin bag, Chlöe announcing her second album Trouble In Paradise, Damon Albarn seemingly announcing Blur’s retirement, and Kid Cudi breaking his foot while raging at his surprise set at the Outdoor Theatre stage.
