When Is The Controversial Jenna Ortega Movie ‘Miller’s Girl’ On Streaming?

jenna ortega

Miller’s Girl made a lot of noise for a film that grossed under $1 million at the box office.

The provocative thriller, which stars Jenna Ortega as a student who becomes involved with her much older teacher (played by Martin Freeman), was criticized by people who judged it based on out-of-context clips for the subject matter. The intimacy coordinator for the movie, Kristina Arjona, even addressed the age gap backlash. “There was many, many people throughout this process, engaging with [Jenna] to make sure that it was consistent with what she was comfortable with, and she was very determined and very sure of what she wanted to do,” she explained.

You can now see what all the scandal is about for yourself: Miller’s Girl is available to buy or rent through video on demand platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Vudu beginning today, February 16th. There’s no streaming date yet.

Here’s the official synopsis:

A talented young writer (Jenna Ortega) embarks on a creative odyssey when her teacher (Martin Freeman) assigns a project that entangles them both in an increasingly complex web. As lines blur and their lives intertwine, professor and protégé must confront their darkest selves while straining to preserve their individual sense of purpose and the things they hold most dear.

We Tried In-N-Out’s Infamous ‘Monkey Style’ Burger — Is It Tasty Or Just A Mess?

In N Out
Dane Rivera/Uproxx

Legends tell of a cheeseburger so decadent few dare speak its name. A cheeseburger so rare that even secret menu obsessives shy away from ordering it. It’s messy, it’s wild, it’s elusive — it’s the mighty sasquatch of fast food. We’re talking about the infamous ‘Monkey Style” cheeseburger from In-N-Out — and it uh, well, doesn’t exist.

Generally speaking, In-N-Out makes ordering from its secret menu relatively easy — it has a dedicated website to hidden menu items and all of the employees know the hacks by name. But it’s no secret that the “not-so-secret menu” doesn’t share all of the ways you can hack an In-N-Out meal. The site makes no mention of tomato wraps, Flying Dutchman, Root Beer Floats, or that you can add chopped chilis to anything, but these are all things you can order by name at In-N-Out, so if you’ve fallen for the “Monkey Style” myth before, we don’t blame you.

Ordering “Monkey Style” is sort of a rite of passage for people growing up in Southern California. Everyone who loves In-N-Out has heard of a “Monkey Style” burger, but we’ve never had one and we might have a friend or two who claim they’ve ordered the mysterious beast before, but like we said… it doesn’t exist. We’re not completely sure how this rumor started, but we know it originated on the internet.

The LA Times points to Foodbeast mastermind Elie Ayrouth as one of the first to document his attempt to order the burger (Ayrouth seems to have a habit of torturing In-N-Out employees by pushing them as far as they can be pushed), but In-N-Out has confirmed that it doesn’t and can’t make “Monkey Style” burgers.

So what the hell is “Monkey Style?”

It’s actually not that complicated: it’s simply an In-N-Out Double Cheeseburger with its Animal Style Fries (a bed of fries, sauce, grilled onions, and layers of melted cheese) stuffed inside. It’s not so much that In-N-Out isn’t capable of making it, they just don’t want to because it’s messy, they’d have to figure out how to portion the fries, and it wouldn’t fit in their burger wrapper. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make a Monkey Style burger yourself by ordering each element individually. So we went ahead and did that so that you don’t have to.

We’re here to answer the questions: is a Monkey Style burger as delicious as it sounds? Is it worth trying?

Let’s find out.

How To Build The In-N-Out Monkey Style Burger

So there are no hard rules about what the Monkey Style Burger is, considering it’s not real, so I took some creative liberties here. I ordered a Double Double with no onions and no sauce. The Animal Style Fries have us covered with the onions and sauce so I didn’t feel the need to double down because I want this burger to taste good and not taste too saucy or too oniony.

As for how to stack the ingredients, I simply removed the bottom bun, tomato, and lettuce, put the fries right under the meat, and put it all back together (but only half the lettuce because In-N-Out goes nuts with this ingredient). So from top to bottom, the burger goes: bun, cheese, meat, cheese, meat, grilled onions, sauce, cheese, fries, tomato, lettuce, bun.

Monkey Style Burger Taste Test

Tasting Notes and Thoughts:

Let’s start with the good. The Monkey Style Burger is packed with texture and flavor. It’s beefy, salty, and cheesy, with an earthy and buttery potato flavor, the right amount of gentle tang, and a slightly sweet and deep savory finish. The grilled onions do a lot of work here, they elevate the burger and in hindsight, I wouldn’t have minded doubling down on the grilled onions, so that’s something to consider if you’re considering ordering this.

The tomatoes add some bright juiciness to counteract the deeper and richer flavors and the lettuce serves as a palate cleanser, but I wish I hadn’t ditched half the lettuce when I put the burger together. I just don’t know how I physically would’ve been able to bite it had I not taken half the lettuce out. You live and you learn!

Here is what doesn’t work about this burger: the size. It’s just too big, too decadent, and too laborious to get through. After about three or four bites, I can’t see myself going any further. It’s also messy as hell. The burger was constantly slipping and sliding in my hands, and the sauce and fries were falling all over my hands. There were moments when I wished I had a fork and knife.

Who eats a burger with a fork and knife? That’s some psycho behavior.

Another thing I don’t love about this dish is that it’s impossible to get the entire order of Animal Style Fries in the burger, half of the fries I had to leave in the tray. That’s great if you want a side of fries with your French fry burger, but there is a certain redundancy in that. I’ve never been more tired of French fries in my life, and that’s something I never thought I’d experience.

The Bottom Line:

I’ll probably never order the Monkey Style burger again. Not because it’s not delicious, it is, but considering how messy and how much of a hassle it is, I rather just enjoy the two dishes (Animal Style Fries and a Double Double) separately.

Last June, The Weeknd had a big moment, linking up with Madonna (and Playboi Carti) on The Idol soundtrack cut “Popular.” The song now has an official video, but you’ll need to head into the world of Fortnite to watch it.

How To Watch The Weeknd, Madonna, And Playboi Carti’s “Popular” Video In Fortnite Festival

The video made its exclusive debut on Fortnite Festival on February 15 at 7 p.m. ET, and is set to play repeatedly until February 18 at 7 p.m. ET. To watch, it’s simple: log into Fortnite on your preferred platform (PlayStation, Switch, PC, etc.) and find the Discover screen. Then, enter the Festival Jam Stage, and there, there will be a dedicated viewing area, featuring a giant screen showing the video. The video is currently not officially available on any other platform, so find more details here.

The Weeknd previously said of the song, “I’m proud of it. I’m definitely proud of it. Me and Carti had this… I mean, we’ve jammed out before. We’ve had a different version of this song prior. So I’ve had these vocals for a while and I’ve kind of just worked around it, and then kind of kept it in the tuck. But now it felt like it was time. It was time. And it felt right and it felt cohesive with this album that I’m working on right now. Or that I just actually finished. The Idol soundtrack, yeah. And so I’ve been producing the song for a while. And then Madonna, Madge. She’s the ultimate co-sign for this song, for this album, and for this TV show. And you’ll hear more of her in the show as well, too. She is the ultimate pop star.”

Madonna is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Doctor’s alcohol tip that ‘could save your life’ goes viral on TikTok

New Year’s Eve is often a night filled with celebratory shots and champagne toasts. But as the party night fast approaches, one doctor is gently reminding folks the importance of partying responsibly during the holidays. Really, it’s a piece of advice that’s important all year long.

Dr. Brian Hoeflinger, an Ohio based neurosurgeon with over two decades of experience, has a TikTok channel filled with educational videos and lifestyle tips. But it’s his latest clip explaining just how long it takes our bodies to break down alcohol that has gone viral.

In the video, which was shared on Christmas Day, Dr. Hoeflinger sets the scene of a party where “a lot of drinks are going down” by setting up a bunch of shot glasses filled with water.

“Say you’re having five drinks in the first hour,” he says, taking five fake, water-filled shots. “As you’re taking them, that alcohol is building up in your system fast. [It] goes to your brain within five minutes and starts to affect you.”

The same can’t be said for other parts of the body. As Dr. Hoeflinger noted, “your liver only metabolizes one ounce of alcohol per hour.” And according to Northwestern Medicine, that process only begins 20 minutes after consumption.

Hoflinger continues, “I’ve got five ounces of liquor in my system right now, and at the end of the hour I’m only going to burn off an ounce…so I’m going to have [four] ounces left in my bloodstream.”

@doctorhoeflinger Knowing this about drinking could save your life! #fyp #party #drinking #alcohol #foryou #holiday #christmas ♬ Storytelling – Adriel

Of course, there are different factors—such as body mass, hormones, medications, etc.—that affect someone’s rate of absorption. And yes, we might be able to form a functional tolerance where behaviorally, we show no signs of intoxication. However, even with all these variables, for the most part all bodies are affected by alcohol similarly. In other words, your blood alcohol level will be more or less the same, and the risks will remain even if you don’t “feel drunk.”

Hoeflinger continues, saying “the party’s rockin’, so we’re gonna have some more,” while taking three more shots and reminding viewers that he still has only burned off one ounce of liquor during the hour that’s passed.

Now he’s had a total of eight ounces of alcohol in two hours. He’s burned off two, but still has six ounces left in his system—meaning that in this scenario, it will take another six hours to completely burn off.

In hour three, Hoefligner takes one shot since the party is “winding down.” This brings him up to a total of nine ounces of alcohol over three hours. His liver has metabolized three ounces, leaving him (still) with six ounces of liquor left in his bloodstream.

“You’re going to be drunk well into the wee hours of the morning, it doesn’t wear off,” he warns, noting the common misconception people have that “they stop drinking an hour or two and can hop in the car and drive.” But in reality, “you can’t do that as you’re still drunk five, six hours down,” he explains.

Dr. Hoeflinger concludes his video by saying:

“For this holiday season the whole point is I really want to tell people that’s how alcohol can stack up in your system easily when you’re drunk and you won’t know it and it won’t wear off for hours and hours down the road.” This is followed by an urge for people to take an Uber or Lyft home to avoid potentially taking their own or another’s life.

The informative clip, which has been viewed over 13 million times, received a flood of praise from viewers online, especially from parents with kids of a drinking age.

“This is the first time I have ever had anyone explain this in this way. I am forwarding this to my son,” wrote one parent.

It also resonated among designated drivers. One person commented “thank you for caring and educating. I’m the sober ride. I’ve seen the devastation from drinking and driving.”

The topic hits Dr. Hoeflinger on a personal level as well. In a previous video, he shared that he lost his 18-year old son, who died nearly a decade ago from drunk driving. Coming from a medical professional, the plea to not drink and drive is important to hear. But as a parent, it hits different. As he shared in the clip, “losing somebody you love is one of the worst experiences you can have in your life.”

Though Hoeflinger focused on the effect of liquor in his party example, the principle applies to wine and beer as well. Healthline recommends only having one large glass of wine every three hours, and one pint of beer every two hours.

It also gives some best practices to avoid intoxication, including:

  • Eat at least 1 hour before drinking.
  • Sip your drinks slowly.
  • Avoid shots, which you’re likely to down rather than sip.
  • Don’t drink more than one standard drink per hour.
  • Alternate between alcohol and nonalcoholic drinks, preferably water.
  • Limit or avoid carbonated drinks, like champagne, sparkling wine, and cocktails mixed with soda.
  • Sit down when drinking, since doing it while standing tends to make people drink faster.

And of course, don’t be afraid to get another ride home. For New Year’s Eve (and beyond), feel free to kick back and have fun. But let’s look out for one another by doing it safely.

Mitski Reached A Major Career Milestone After Being The Answer To A ‘Jeopardy!’ Clue

Mitski 2019 Governors Ball

Mitski is a woman of many talents. Across the “My Love Mine All Mine” singer’s tenure, she’s racked up numerous notable accolades, including an Oscars and Libera Awards nomination. Her latest album, The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We, has reviewed critical praise from Uproxx’s Steven Hyden and many others.

But there is still much to be accomplished. Yesterday (February 15), though, Mitski was able to cross one nerdy yet major career milestone off her list. During the February 15 episode of Jeopardy!, Mitski was officially featured as the answer to a clue. As the players duked it out in the ‘Pop Culture’ category, host Ken Jennings read the question, “Miyawaki is the last name of the ‘Your Best American Girl’ indie rock goddess who goes by this single name.”

What would’ve stumped many viewers at home was a quick $2,000 pot for contestant Diandra, who correctly answered Mitski.

Watch the clip below.

Just days ago, in a separate taping, somehow, a contestant confused Beyoncé for Queen Latifah. The mere fact that Mitski was correctly guessed is a miracle in its own right. Also, Mitski is a notoriously private person, so her fans have to work overtime to learn about the reclusive entertainer. Mitski hasn’t acknowledged the feat online yet, but her fans surely have. View a couple of their responses below.

Yes, That Really Is Ben Affleck in A Preposterous Blonde Wig In JLo’s New Film ‘This Is Me…Now’

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez’s new flick This Is Me…Now is a fictionalized take on the singer’s love life, so it would make sense for Ben Affleck to make some sort of appearance considering he is her husband…Now. But did you expect that appearance to include a bad spray tan and a luscious wig?

Affleck is almost unrecognizable in a clip from the movie, which landed on Amazon Prime this week. He has a cameo as Rex Stone, host of the fictional political news segment The Truth Report. Stone screams at his viewers about the death of love ahead of one of Lopez’s music videos. “All we do is slap sexy graphics and theme songs on videos of people being assholes to one and other,” Affleck rants to the camera. “We have no love for each other! We have no love for ourselves!” Cue the introspective breakup track “Rebound.” Cinema is back!

Rex Stone Ben Affleck
Prime Video

Rex returns to the screen during the credits, where he has a solemn parting message: “Loving yourself means never having to say, ‘I’m lonely.’ It means ol’ Rexy can go down to the lobby bar, order the oysters and a club soda, and go to bed smiling. Even though the waitress was mean as a diabetic honey-badger. Because only you can let the love in your heart die. And you should never let it die.” Now try to take that seriously when you learn that Affleck has a horrible southern accent.

In addition to Affleck’s weirdness, the movie also stars Trevor Noah, Kim Petras, Keke Palmer, Jennifer Lewis, Sofia Vergara, Jane Fonda, and Neil deGrasse Tyson (!?) as members of the Zodiac Council. It’s a whole thing!

You can stream This Is Me…Now on Prime Video.

Monica McNutt On Loving The Chaos Of The Celeb Game And Finding Her Way Calling NBA Games

monica mcnutt
ESPN/Merle Cooper

There is nothing quite like the Celebrity Game at NBA All-Star Weekend, where some of the most popular fans of the league from the world of entertainment get a chance to showcase their talents (or lack thereof) on the same court as the best basketball players in the world.

From a broadcasting perspective, it is also a very different experience than calling a regular game. In-game interviews and sideline shenanigans are going on at the same time — you have to keep an eye on all of them alongside the things actually happening on the court. For the second year in a row, Monica McNutt will join Ryan Rocco, Richard Jefferson, and Cassidy Hubbarth on the ESPN call of the Celebrity Game on Friday night (7:00 p.m. ET), and she’s extremely excited to see what this year’s edition has in store after an incredibly chaotic 2022 game.

“I had so much fun last year,” McNutt told Dime over the phone this week. “Like, I don’t even remember anything that made sense besides Janelle Monae playing defense on offense and Dwyane Wade trying to communicate that to her. Ben Affleck and Chris Rock coming over to the booth, Shaq sitting next to us, myself and Jonesy laughing till we could not laugh anymore, and Richard Jefferson ripping off his shirt to go officiate and the button hitting me in my chest. So, yeah, all those things are why I’m back.”

The point of the Celebrity Game is to have fun, and McNutt enjoys the opportunity to open up and let loose a bit more on a broadcast alongside Jones. Part of the beauty of sports in general is knowing anything can happen in a game, but with the various personalities on hand in the Celebrity Game, that gets taken to extremes beyond the game play itself. For a broadcast, that means being nimble and embracing the chaos.

“It really is a spectacle and it is unique and it is fun. And for me personally, that’s the kind of stuff that I love to be a part of,” McNutt said. “And so I think the no rules kind of format — of course relying on our professional expertise as TV people to stay within that train track, so to speak — but it is just such a celebration of not just the NBA, but of people that have been able to accomplish some things that have deemed for them to get some recognition in something which is not their specialty. So, it’s a cool experience for them and it’s a fun experience for us.”

The All-Star break also provides an opportunity to take stock of the season so far, and for McNutt, that means looking back at a year where she’s continued to push herself professionally. She’s continued to add calling games as an analyst for ESPN this year, along with doing radio for Knicks games on MSG Networks. It’s quite the stage to learn a new craft, and she opened up a bit about her journey thus far as an NBA analyst.

“Honestly, Robby, there’s a lot of pressure that comes with it. And I will be frank, I’ve called four games to date this season, there have been some where I felt like I nailed it better than others,” McNutt said. “I think for me, the vulnerability of a live learning lab with tens of thousands — or millions — of viewers has been something that has kind of weighed on me a little bit, if I’m honest. Now, I obviously come from an athletic background, so I’m excited about the feedback and the support and the opportunities to get better.

“But I’m still very much learning and growing,” she continued. “And I hope that if I’m fortunate enough to do this three, five, 10 years or whatever life seems to allow, that each year I will continue to get better. And so I do the job with that in mind, doing my best to give myself grace. I’m thankful for the network that I have in terms of folks that support but I think doing something new — and if you’d like to get real time nasty feedback, just being able to open up an app — is an exercise in mental health. And the best way to go about it in order to improve the craft that I love and respect so much is to stay focused on doing that, because there is so much noise out there.”

On the technical side, calling the game at the NBA level is incredibly challenging. As McNutt explains, the speed of the game is just different than calling a college game or even a WNBA game, and that requires a demanding level of efficiency as a broadcaster. There is so much you may want to say, but you have to squeeze your thoughts — analysis of what’s happening on the court, storytelling about players and coaches, and thoughts about the league as a whole — into tight windows. Beyond that, there’s two vastly different rhythms to calling a game on radio, where you have to be more concise to allow the play-by-play to detail what’s happening, and calling a game on TV, where you have more space, freedom, and a unique set of challenges, particularly with limited reps.

“I think in radio, you kind of have free throw to free throw line, once you develop a good rhythm with your partner, to kind of get in,” McNutt said. “And if you are a little bit heavy winded, because the audience can’t necessarily see, a good play-by-play — I’ve been fortunate to work with many — can catch the audience up seamlessly. But TV, there’s so much more room to color in this template with stories and anecdotes and basketball knowledge. And if you’re really, really fortunate, you’ve got a replay and a Telestrator, you can really get into the weeds and show off what you know, but you don’t have that every single game.

“And so, I think the first thing is your relationship with your play-by-play artist, as I call them, whether that’s radio or television, because the two of you have to find a flow that works, and that may mean having a conversation in a break,” she continued. “Are we good? Or talking to a producer. And then I think our pregame meetings are largely important. What are you hot on is often the question, like ‘What are you going into this game looking for?’ But even the best laid plans of mice and men, they get blown up. For example, on Christmas Day, we planned for the stars and neither Jimmy [Butler] nor Joel [Embiid] played. So, there’s certainly a fluidity that again goes back to my experience as an athlete being able to roll with the punches, make lemonade out of lemons, so to speak. But it is one of those things that you just have to be able to do, you have to continue to get the reps. And I know for me, sort of in my first endeavor on the NBA side, the abundance of reps is not there — and rightfully so, right? Like, this is a big stage, you don’t really have time to learn on the fly, but I’m so thankful for the opportunities in the WNBA and even radio. While it is a different medium, it does allow me to study the league, traveling with the Knicks.”

McNutt, who played basketball at Georgetown, leans on that background in calling games and approaching the work of improving as an analyst. She goes back and watches the tape, seeing what she could’ve done better — where she could’ve added more or what she could’ve laid out — and talks through things with her new teammates and coaches: the play-by-play “artists,” as she calls them, and producers. She highlights producers Laurie Privitera and Paul Ervin, as well as Jones and Ryan Ruocco, as being incredibly helpful in working with her, as well as the legendary Doris Burke for always sharing experience and advice.

However, as McNutt notes, there’s only so much you can get from others in the business. So much is about what you can pull from within yourself to allow it to shine through.

“There is feedback and professionalism and nailing analysis or understanding the moments and all that good stuff,” McNutt explained. “But then there’s also also an element to this that you bring yourself, and no analyst is quite the same.”

McNutt is one of very few Black women in the NBA analyst space, particularly calling games, and there is a distinct challenge in being someone who doesn’t look or sound like what people are accustomed to on a broadcast. What is a welcome breath of fresh air to some is unfortunately not well-received by others, and in an industry where authenticity is a prerequisite to long-term success — you can only play a character for so long before you get burnt out — finding comfort in your identity on a new stage is a process that McNutt is trying to embrace.

“It’s been a journey. I will say that I feel myself stretching and growing and working at this point in my career in a way that I don’t really recall since I got to ESPN,” McNutt said. “[There was] sort of a hustle to get to ESPN, and then I found my way a bit, finding my rhythm in the different roles that I had. And now this, it has required another level of diligence and focus to rise to the occasion. And so I am one who believes that life and our experiences are truly a living, breathing entity. And what you do today may not be what you want to do next week, so you have to stand in the work that you’re doing. Does it make you happy? Are you proud of it? And so far, I am very much enjoying this journey and hope to continue to have the opportunity to hone that craft.”

Chelsea Peretti Opened Up About Answering Awkward Red Carpet Questions While In Tears Over Andre Braugher’s Death

As part of the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, where she played precinct secretary/social media guru Gina Linetti, Chelsea Peretti was obviously bereft over the passing of her beloved co-star Andre Braugher. Unfortunately, that led to some awkward encounters as the actress traveled to London over the holidays shortly after news of Braugher’s death hit.

“People were coming up to me and they’re like, ‘Andre died.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah.’ They’re like, ‘How do you feel?’ I’m like, ‘Bad?’” Peretti told Seth Meyers.

Things did not improve when she returned home and attended the Santa Barbara Film Festival to promote her new movie First Time Female Director. The actress had an extremely awkward red carpet experience that puts the whole celebrity experience in perspective.

“My movie was there, and on the red carpet, the guy goes, ‘What’s your favorite Brooklyn Nine-Nine episode?’ And I’m talking about it. He’s like, ‘Who was funniest?’ I’m like, ‘Andre’ and I just burst into tears. It was so horrible because to be a celebrity, you’re supposed to be like a complete robot,” she said. Peretti then turned to Meyers and told him, “You know this. You do it.”

According to Peretti, the cameras kept recording as she was clearly crying, and would you believe the situation somehow got even worse? Amazingly, Peretti soldiered through it and stuck the landing.

“I’m just like, ‘This is a nightmare,’” she told Meyers. “And my publicist is like, ‘Um, uh…’ And then he goes, ‘Well, one last question: what are you bingeing?,’ while I’m crying. I’m like [mimics sobbing], ‘Beef!’”
