Is Billie Eilish’s New Album Coming Out Soon?

billie eilish
Getty Image

It might be a little mind-bending to think about considering how ubiquitous she was last year, but Billie Eilish hasn’t released a full-length project since 2021’s Happier Than Ever. Despite being two years removed from her last album, 2023 was a banner year for Eilish thanks to her participation in the soundtrack for the Barbie movie. Her contribution, “What Was I Made For?” not only peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 but it also won Eilish a Song of the Year Grammy at this year’s awards, bringing her total to nine.

With all that heat behind her, fans might be wondering if she’ll finally follow up Happier Than Ever with a new album this year, and she just made a promising revelation on that front on social media. Posting a photo dump on Instagram, she captioned her carousel simply, “my album is mastered.”

Okay, so… what does that mean? Mastering is often the final step in the process of recording an album, as it can only be done once all the songs have been completed and confirmed. Simply put, it means an engineer is balancing the audio levels across the tracks so that the actual sound is cohesive, which is part of making an album sound like an album and not just a compilation of songs recorded at different times.

Of course, after the mastering is complete, there are still various other steps to consider, like shooting videos and designing a rollout strategy (which might be done before the mastering but also might be done after the album is completed to ensure consistency of presentation). In the modern business ecosystem, you might also have to ensure sponsorships and licensing partnerships are all in place for maximum visibility. Basically, Billie’s album might well be finished, but it could also be a while before she and her label are ready to release it. Still, it’s nice to know there’s something to look forward to, even if we might not see it for a while yet.

Get Ready For Spring With This Easy And Classic Mai Tai Cocktail Recipe

Mai Tai
Shutterstock/UPROXX

The Mai Tai is one of the most iconic cocktails of all time. The rummy tropical mix is simple, delicious, and super refreshing. It’s also one of the most bastardized cocktails ever. Syrupy flavor replacements and a million unnecessary add-ins have plagued this cocktail for almost a century now.

So let’s get back to basics. The old-school Mai Tai is a mix of dark Jamaican rum — originally 17-year-old J. Wray & Nephew rum — with orgeat syrup, fresh lime, and Orange Curaçao over crushed ice with a fresh mint and lime wheel garnish. That’s it and it’s brilliant.

Unfortunately, the 17-year-old J. Wray & Nephew rum that Victor Bergeron used at Trader Vic’s back in the day is no longer made. This has caused all that fuss with different rums and ingredients over the years — bartenders were earnestly trying to find that exact flavor profile again without the rum available anymore.

Today, you can recreate the drink exactly thanks to Appleton Estate releasing a very limited special 17-year-old rum release. It’s an expensive bottle but it’s the right bottle. See our recipe below and add this essential cocktail to your repertoire as the weather warms up again.

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz. aged Jamaican rum
  • 0.5 oz. Orange Curaçao
  • 0.5 oz. fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz. orgeat
  • Crushed ice
  • Fresh mint
  • Lime wheel

So, Appleton Estate released “Legends” to give the world the iconic 17-year-old J. Wray & Nephew rum again. The issue is… it’s a $500 bottle of rum. That’s wildly expensive for a cocktail. But it’s the right rum and the original flavor profile for this cocktail. And ho boy does it work.

If you cannot stomach a bottle of Legends, I’d recommend Appleton Estates 12-year rum. It’s perfectly suitable for making this cocktail — and much less dire for your wallet ($50).

Next, you’ll need both Orange Curaçao and orgeat. Both will be readily available at any good liquor store.

What You’ll Need:

  • Large rocks glass
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Paring knife
  • Hand juicer
  • Jigger

Zach Johnston

Method:

  • Add the rum, Orange Curaçao, fresh lime juice, and orgeat to the cocktail shaker with a large handful of crushed ice. Affix the lid and shaker vigorously for about 10 to 15 seconds.
  • Pour the whole drink with ice into the waiting glass. Add a little more crushed ice to the top of the cocktail and then garnish with fresh mint and a lime wheel. Serve.

Bottom Line:

Mai Tai
Zach Johnston

This is so complex and delicious. There’s a deep nuttiness that’s accented by orange oils and fresh bright lime juice. There’s a sweetness but it’s more attached to a tobacco-molasses rumminess than a sugary syrup.

The body of the drink has a beautifully balanced woody spice bark vibe with soft tropical florals and fresh citrus. There’s a nice tobacco finish with a hint of almond sweetness and soft lush creaminess. In short, this is sunshine in a glass.

Where To Get Bella Hadid’s New Favorite Adidas Silhouette

Bella

Being stylish is about having an eye for detail and staying up to date on what’s fashionable, which can be hard work. Some people will have you believe it’s an age thing, but that’s not true. The only thing that separates your parent’s style from someone like Andre 3000’s is that even though the dude is pushing 50, he still cares about his clothes. So if you don’t want to start dressing like your parents, you have to pay attention to what’s changing.

And there is no better way to do that than to look to some of the most stylish celebrities.

Model and fashion muse Bella Hadid was spotted recently in New York City wearing a pair of Adidas SL 72s. If you’re an Adidas fan you’ve no doubt been aware of the renewed popularity of the Samba sneaker silhouette. But let’s face it, the more and more people latch on to the Samba the more tired the silhouette gets, so if you like the look but want something that’s a bit fresher, the SL 72 will get you there.

The sneaker was first introduced 23 years after the original Samba, in celebration of the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. The sneaker features a lightweight build of breathable nylon with suede overlays and leather accents with a distinct textured Ecotex tongue and a low-profile cut. It’s a lot like the Samba but sleeker and lighter, a perfect city shoe.

Right now you can pick up a pair at Adidas in three different colorways for just $100, including the Maroon pair seen on Hadid. Pick up a pair at Adidas.

Who Is Djo? Meet The ‘End Of Beginning’ Singer With A Familiar Face

There was some big news for music industry newcomer Djo this week, as his song “End Of Beginning” made its first appearance in the top 10 of Spotify’s US chart after a 27% increase in streams, landing at No. 7. Thanks to his newfound popularity, listeners may be wondering just who the musician — who has been releasing music since 2019 — really is… and could be surprised to learn his true identity. Djo is the stage name of actor Joe Keery, who is perhaps best known for his role as bully-turned-hero Steve Harrington of Netflix’s nostalgic sci-fi series Stranger Things.

Keery has released a number of other singles through the years, including “Keep Your Head Up,” “Change,” and “Gloom,” as well as a 2022 album called Decide, from which “End Of Beginning” became a breakout track. The album has been compared to works from the likes of Tame Impala and Daft Punk, and Keery was rumored last year to have even recorded with Taylor Swift.

However, as Djo explained during an interview on The Tonight Show, the rumor may have been the result of a misunderstanding. “I was [at the studio] with John [Rooney], minding my own business, not doing anything,” he said. “And then I walked out the door, and it was like 1,000 people were standing out there. People looked at me expecting Taylor [Swift] and were like, ‘Who’s this guy?’” Still, the Stranger Things team mom wasn’t against working with Swift in the future, saying “Maybe that experience generated something in the universe, but I don’t know. We’ll see.”

Travel Writers And Influencers Share Their Favorite Spas For A Steam, Sauna, And Soak

best spas
MERLE COOPER/UPROXX

The best part of winter might just be the creative ways to stay cozy. From soaking in coveted hot springs around the world to working up a sweat in a sauna, warming your bones in the dark days of winter is just the thing to get you through the season. And in 2024, with self-care being all the rage, spas have gotten cooler, younger, and sexier than ever.

As we find ourselves in the throes of a relaxation revolution with wellness-inspired travel trends booming, we asked travel influencers to share their favorite spas in the US and abroad. From Vail’s famed aprés-ski Sonnenalp Spa to Miami’s peaceful and detoxifying Tierra Santa Healing House, let’s dive into this season’s curated list of the best spas to visit this season.

See you in the steam room!

EDITOR’S PICK (@Steve_Bramucci): The Spa Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch –Avon, CO

Ritz Carlton Bachelor Gulch Spa
Chris Rodriguez

This is a bad topic for me! I’ve become a “spa guy” very rapidly in the past two years and have all sorts of thoughts. A few of my picks have been shouted out here a lot and, frankly, deserve to be continually shouted out. If you haven’t gone to Aqua Dome Tirol — which you’ll read more about later in this list — make a point of it. It’s the coolest, youngest, vibiest spa I’ve ever set foot in.

It was on the Uproxx Travel Hot List in 2019, because we are habitually ahead of travel trends. I also covered it when discussing Christmas in Austria (something I’d highly recommend).

I’m also a huge fan of Knot Springs in Portland (it was shouted out in the 2021 Hot List, as a sign of Portland’s post-pandemic resurgence). It calls itself a “Wellness Social Club” and truly nails that designation. Of all the spas I’ve been to, this is where you’re most likely to meet someone and vibe out. It also makes for an amazing date. It’s got views of the entire city and would be an Instagram heaven… except there’s a very strict “no phones; no photos” policy (which makes perfect sense for a whole bunch of reasons!).

The coolest aspect of Knot Springs, in my book, is that members have access to shared workspaces, a gym, communal areas, pools, and plunges. If I ever get to move back to my beloved Portland, I’ll become a member before I even lock in an apartment. The only downside is that the experience is not a particularly chill one. You’re encouraged to move quickly and have to be out of the space in 90 minutes.

Still, at $89 per visit ($69 midweek), it’s become a part of my Portland routine.

Knot springs sauna
Knot Springs

My current favorite spa in the United States is also my most recent discovery — the spa at Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch. With a cold plunge, sauna, steam, and hot tub for both men and women, this property was ahead of the curve on the overall wellness trend. Vibe-wise, everything is made of stone and wood, so it feels very European in that sense. It’s also below ground — which conjures this spirit of being in an ancient bathhouse buried below a mountain.

The highlight is a giant — I mean, it could be a lap pool — hot tub in the shared grotto. Accessible to both men and women, this is the perfect place to meet with your date after a day on the slopes and separate steam, plunge, and sauna sessions. The vibe in this co-ed space is relaxed and drinks are allowed, making it an après ski dream.

Now here’s the crazy bit of it all — use of the spa is free to guests. Free-free. That’s a whole lot of relaxation without having to spend more than your basic room rate. It’s the best deal I can remember seeing for anyone looking to splurge on a luxury resort in the mountains.

Bunny Zingler (@xo.bunny): Tierra Santa Healing House At The Faena Hotel — Miami Beach, FL

Bunny Zingler
BUNNY ZINGLER

My absolute favorite spa in the heart of the heat – my home, the 305, is the Tierra Santa Healing House located at the Faena Hotel Miami Beach. This is not just any type of spa, you’re greeted with the most welcoming, comforting, and, more importantly, peaceful ambiance.

Upon arrival, Tierra Santa has so many intriguing experiences to indulge in. If you’re looking for a natural detox, head over and look out on the menu for the “Pranic Healing.” This irresistible 60-minute journey is the ultimate cleanse for your chakras and energy – including the beautiful healing and aroma of Palo Santo and goosebump-worthy sound bowls. I usually save this service for last because you’re advised to shower 12 hours after to let the soul cleanse sink in.

Prior to this experience, my husband and I love to start our spa day with a 60-minute couples massage followed by the add-ons, which focus just on the head and face for some extra love on tender points. After the massages, we either go with a dry brush exfoliation or a body scrub to shed off all the dead skin. Following that, we love to indulge in their signature wet spa, packed with amenities like a cold room, steam room, and sauna. It’s the perfect location to get lost in, and my favorite part is that it’s co-ed, so feel free to enjoy it with your partner or friends!

The whole experience at the Tierra is very luxurious. I especially love that this place offers plenty of carefully curated options for healing the inner or outer body. Check out their menu before booking the perfect lineup for your appointment!

Nikta Nilchian (@Niktanic): The Spa at Séc-he — Palm Springs, CA

The Spa at Séc-he
The Spa at Séc-he

As soon as you walk in The Spa at Séc-he, it’s clear that every aspect of the space was thought through in great detail. From the design elements honoring the history and culture of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, the circular layout of this massive wellness center, the unique, one-of-a-kind massage tables, the decor of the waiting rooms — everything has a story, a reason for being, and an in-depth explanation.

On top of that, Séc-he is truly an epicenter for all of your wellness needs. Not only do they offer every type of massage therapy you can imagine (the list is longer than the Cheesecake Factory menu), but with a “Taking of the Waters Day-Pass,” one can easily spend an entire day taking advantage of the spa’s many amenities and still walk away as relaxed as ever.

The pass allows access to some things that you’ve seen at most spas—access to a steam and sauna room, cold plunge, fitness center, pool, and hot tub access, relaxing common areas, and grooming amenities. But even these offerings are far from typical. The steam room has eucalyptus for promoting skin health and improving your respiratory wellness while acting as a natural stimulant to re-energize you. The sauna includes menthol inhalation, which is known to provide symptomatic relief for upper airway congestion and reduces capsaicin cough sensitivity. The showers are equipped with aromatherapy steam and vitamin C-infused water. The bright smell and feel of this water was so divine, I took three showers during my day visiting this spa.

One of my favorite rooms that should not be missed at Séc-he is the Acoustic Wellness Lounge. Sound therapy is gaining popularity for its proven benefits of lowering anxiety, stress, depression, sleep disorders, and high blood pressure. This room was lined with zero-gravity vibrational (and heated) lounges for binaural therapy. I loved this room because after a massage, I always want to continue feeling ultra relaxed and I’m never ready to enter the world with other humans in it.

I also usually want to take a nap. This room allows not only for that nap but also the added benefit of audio therapy. While in one of these charges, I was able to enjoy a guided breath-work session, chakra–sound waves to work on all six chakras, gamma meditation that focuses on memory, perception and compassion, and “sleep wave” souynds. As someone who is chronically underslept, the power nap and deep sleep options were a godsend.

There was also a weight management option in the audio therapy menu. I didn’t ask questions, I just hit “play” and hoped some weight was being magically redistributed while I chilled. It’s no surprise that Séc-he was named #1 spa in the country for 2023.

Sam McClendon (@sammcclendon): Aqua Dome — Tirol, Austria

Sam McClendon
SAM MCCLENDON

Austria is an epic winter escape for anyone looking to hit the slopes, indulge in a spa day, and enjoy charming European towns. Located in western Austria, the Tyrolean Alps are home to one of the best spa hotels in Europe, Aqua Dome. Aqua Dome has one of the largest thermal spa complexes in Europe and is a top-rated wellness destination by both local Europeans and foreigners alike. To give you an idea of the magnitude, this thermal spa has 12 indoor and outdoor baths, seven saunas, and four restaurants and bars! I felt like a Bond girl relaxing in these futuristic baths that are set against a backdrop of the Austrian Alps.

Aqua Dome is a great destination for a holistic wellness trip in Europe, but if you’re unable to stay overnight, you can also book a day pass to the thermal spa. The packages start at just €36.80, and it’s well worth the price tag!

Emily Mei (@emily.ghoul): Solaniwa Onsen — Osaka, Japan

Featured Upcoming Tour Dates: Las Vegas, NV (4/26-27)

YURI PARK

My top recommended spa recommendation has to be Solaniwa Onsen in Osaka, Japan! There’s a good reason it’s called a “hot spring village”! You enter and change into their traditional yukata robes, and the interior is beautifully decorated in traditional architecture. The village has everything from an indoor night market to multiple saunas and hot springs.

My friends and I booked a private room with a traditional tatami floor, a private hot spring bath, and a mini garden. You could easily spend all day here, and I actually finished writing my song Venom (a dark, rock-heavy song) while relaxing in the private bath!

https://open.spotify.com/track/6j59MBbruTaMJYdL1ksIou?si=8d86b34e409341c7I love taking it old school, so for my winter spa day, I’m grabbing the Mrs. and doing it the way of the Rat Pack. I’d book Frank Sinatra’s Twin Palms Estate for some mid-century magic and a bit of lounging by the piano-shaped pool. Then it’s off to The Yacht Club Spa at the Parker, because who can resist a bit of pampering?

After a couples massage and a couple of glasses of bubbly, I’m heading straight to Mr. Lyons for a perfectly cooked steak and a gin-something cocktail. The last stop is nightcap at Seymour’s, naturally to soothe the sight of the weekend bill that’s coming with a vengeance on Monday.

AR/CO (@wearearco): Aire Ancient Baths UK — London, England

Featured Upcoming Tour Dates: TBD

AR/CO
AR/CO

If you want a mega treat we’ve found our best secret spot in Central London, it comes with a price tag but is definitely something for a special occasion. Aire Ancient Baths UK, smack bang in Covent Garden. It’s pretty unassuming from the facade but the spiral staircase leads you down to these Grecian-like pools and it feels like you take a step back in time.

They keep numbers low because of the pricey tag, but it means it feels private, and there are plenty of corners and nooks to sit or hide in! Personal favorites are the salt baths or sauna with a plunge pool. There’s a treatment option that also comes with massage (£££), but if you’re lucky enough to make that happen you may have visited London’s closest thing to heaven for an afternoon.

Rob DelliBovi (@robdellibovi): Tierra Santa Healing House at the Faena Hotel — Miami Beach, FL

Tierra Santa Healing House
TIERRA SANTA HEALING HOUSE

Tierra Santa Healing House at Faena is by far the best in town, and of course great during the wintertime. It’s unique because of its size – spanning 22,000 square feet, it features the East Coast’s largest hammam, inviting guests to experience ancient bathing rituals. With shaman-crafted body-healing ceremonies and state-of-the-art facial treatments featuring Biologique Recherche skin care lines, the spa really provides the best rejuvenation experience in South Florida.

The spa also offers technologically advanced facial treatments using Biologique Recherche skincare lines. Faena is a Miami staple and the perfect place to visit if you’re looking for a luxury property combining design, luxe amenities, and legendary service. The spa has a great wellness programming schedule too — including yoga, weekly meditations, and sound healing.

Vescoe Blake (@vesblake): ESPA Riga — Riga, Latvia

Vescoe Blake
VESCOE BLAKE

ESPA in Riga is 100% one of the finest indoor spas I’ve ever experienced. It is an impressive size and encompasses everything you’d expect from a top-tier 5-star spa. If you’re familiar with Espy then I don’t have to tell you the place smells great and all the products are good quality.

Featuring two pool areas with saunas and an extensive menu of treatments to choose from, the ESPY spa is connected to the largest of the three Radissons in Riga city center, although it’s not accessible to guests. Fortunately, I managed to secure a day pass to the spa, and I’m genuinely pleased I did. It added a touch of relaxation to my final day of the trip. I would 100% come back to experience the spa experience again

VASSY (@vassy): Relax Bee Syros — Syros, Greece

Featured Upcoming Tour Dates: Miami, FL (3/21); West Coast (March/April); Mindil Beach, Darwin, Australia (5/18)

Vassy
VASSY

One of the coolest places I’ve ever visited on vacation is Relax Bee Syros, a chill spot for yoga and wellness vibes on the island of Syros, Greece. It’s just a quick 30-minute plane hop from Athens, and as soon as you land, you’re greeted with stunning mountain views and crystal-clear ocean waters.

The spa itself sits right by the water, overlooking the Glyfadas, with a sweet open-air garden vibe. They’ve got everything from mud bath therapy to massages, and you can enjoy them in different spots around the spa. You can get a massage while basking in the sun on a rooftop, or chilling in a green garden oasis—pure bliss. You can see the old town of Syros and the iconic St. Nicholas Church, adding a cool architectural vibe to the scene.

What I dig most about Syros is the vibe—it’s all about health and wellness, and the island’s younger crowd adds to the laid-back atmosphere. Plus, there are plenty of spots to grab fresh juices or a matcha latte. Overall, Relax Bee Syros is a total sensory treat, blending nature, culture, and wellness into one epic vacation experience.

As I stepped into Nalu Spa at Turtle Bay Resort in Hawaii, I was immediately transported to a world of tranquility. The soothing ambiance, coupled with the mesmerizing views of the North Shore’s coastline, instantly put me at ease. The spa’s staff welcomed me warmly, ensuring my experience would be nothing short of exceptional.

I indulged in their signature Hawaiian massage, a deeply relaxing treatment that left me physically and spiritually rejuvenated. The therapist’s expert hands worked wonders on my tense muscles, melting away the stress of everyday life. The use of locally sourced ingredients in their facials added a unique touch to my skincare regimen, leaving my skin glowing with vitality.

After my treatment, I savored some quiet time in the spa’s relaxation lounge, sipping on herbal tea and basking in the serene atmosphere. Nalu Spa offers a holistic approach to wellness that is truly unmatched, making it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking inner peace and rejuvenation amidst Hawaii’s natural beauty.

Mike Lindell Unsuccessfully Tried To Weasel His Way Of Paying $5 Million To An Expert Who Proved Him Wrong

mike lindell

Mike Lindell was having money problems even before he was ordered to pay millions of dollars in an arbitration judgment.

Last year, the MyPillow founder boldly offered to hand over $5 million to anyone who could debunk his election interference data. The contest was called “Prove Mike Wrong,” and, well, someone proved Mike wrong. But when Lindell refused to pay computer forensics expert Robert Zeidman, a federal court stepped in forcing to fork him over the money.

Raw Story reports that on Wednesday, “U.S. District Court Judge John Tunheim upheld a ruling that found Lindell must pay $5 million to cybersecurity expert Robert Zeidman, who responded to a contest to prove the pillow executive had not obtained evidence from the 2020 election.”

“The Court’s responsibility in reviewing an arbitration award is not to reevaluate the merits but rather ensure that the panel acted appropriately,” Judge Tunheim wrote. “Lindell LLC’s only basis for Court action was that the panel acted outside the scope of its authority in issuing the award… Even though the Court may have reached a different outcome given an independent initial review of the information, the Court fails to identify evidence that the panel exceeded its authority. Under the Court’s narrow review, it will confirm the arbitration award.”

Zeidman isn’t optimistic he’ll ever see the money. “I’m a pessimist in general. I don’t think I’ll see it. I do think he’s gonna go bankrupt from all the lawsuits and all his expenditures on these illegitimate voting fraud cases. So I think he’ll delay things until he’s out of money, and I probably won’t see anything,” he told Minnesota Reformer. If Zeidman does get the money, however, he plans to “donate a good portion of it” to non-profits.

A much better use of funds than drones.

Jonquel Jones And Nneka Ogwumike Are Moving The WNBA Forward With New ‘Shattered Glass’ Documentary

jonquel jones nneka ogwumike
Getty Image/Merle Cooper

WNBA players are moving. This is true in the literal sense — the league’s biggest stars are increasingly changing teams in free agency — while at the same time, they’re seizing a bigger platform. Players come together, whether it be on super teams or around collective action.

The premiere of Shattered Glass: A WNBPA Story on Tubi last month highlighted both tracks. The film follows four stars on and off the court: Breanna Stewart, Nneka Ogwumike and Jonquel Jones, as well as retired legend Sheryl Swoopes. Rather than simply joining a chorus of voices documenting the growth of women’s sports, the film shows that growth through the lives of four women who helped enable it.

“Just having something out there, I’m hoping will inspire people to tell their own stories,” Ogwumike recently told Dime. “But mostly it will inspire others who care to support those stories, and I’m really happy to have been a part of a project that can catalyze that, I’m hoping.”

As president of the executive committee of the WNBA Players Association, Ogwumike was involved in the original planning around the doc. But it took some urging from executive director Terri Jackson before Ogwumike agreed to be a subject of it herself.

Director Andrea Buccilla told Swish Appeal she wanted subjects who represent each major archetype fans recognize among WNBA athletes. Ogwumike was the natural fit as the embodiment of an advocate and ambassador for the game. Jones is in a different position, pushing for her first championship in the thick of her prime. For her, the film was important to show fans there’s room for play within all the work.

“I think I’m a pretty funny person most of the time, and I can make people feel welcome … I call it, like, the Bahamian side of myself,” Jones, who grew up in Freeport, told Dime. “I have a straight face and I’m locked in, so my personality doesn’t show as much while I’m on the basketball court.”

The doc goes behind the scenes on the 2023 WNBA season, in which Jones changed teams for the first time in her career and pushed for a championship with the New York Liberty. The pressure of that task only set in as it went along. And losing to the shorthanded Las Vegas Aces in New York in Game Four of the WNBA Finals only intensified the desire Jones and her teammates possess heading into the 2024 season, which tips off this May.

“This year, we’re established, right? We know exactly what our identity’s gonna be,” Jones said. “It’s not a situation of great players coming together, but not really knowing how they’re going to mess or how they’re going to gel or what the chemistry is going to be like.

“We’re now in a situation where we know exactly who we’re going to be on the court,” she continued. “We know the things that we need to fix in order to play at a high level and be better than we were last year.”

Ogwumike is a vet and role model for the players she leads, but she’s doing what Jones did last year: Changing teams for the first time in her WNBA career. She recently signed with the Seattle Storm, joining star scorer Jewell Loyd and another major 2024 acquisition, Skylar Diggins-Smith.

Seattle’s moves may have assembled one more super team in the crowded WNBA. Aside from it being the first move for both Jones and Ogwumike, the other similarity is the investment coming from the organizations that recruited each player.

“I think in this modern day of sports, players are looking for a standard of foundation, a standard of professionalism as it relates to the experience, and that has a lot to do with the infrastructural things that are included in an organization,” Ogwumike said. “It wasn’t hard for me to consider Seattle given who was running it, and the types of people that are on staff on the coaching staff and the players that they have, and for that to be paired with visible investment is important.”

Jones was happy to see Ogwumike move.

“As players we know what we deserve and we know when it’s time to move on,” Jones said. “Anytime you decide to make that change and go somewhere else, it’s always a tough decision, but I feel like there is this knowing inside of yourself that it’s time to change.”

The respect goes both ways. Jones once spoke out about the WNBA and its partners not marketing her at the level she deserved as an MVP and playoff mainstay in the league. Not long after, she scored a spot in a State Farm commercial in the spring of 2022. It was Ogwumike who connected with Jones and lauded her for speaking up for herself and creating new opportunities.

“I would say always speak up on what you’re feeling, the things that you see, that you want to be paid,” Jones said. “And you never know what’s gonna happen, but it doesn’t happen unless you’re willing to speak up about it.”

That’s exactly what the WNBPA did in creating Shattered Glass with Tubi. The stars are showcasing their lives and careers while acting as living evidence that investment is coming to their game. And if all goes well, the hope is that Shattered Glass will not be a one-off. Instead, it will turn into a first chapter that highlights the way the league (and those in it) is moving forward.

‘True Detective: Night Country’ Showrunner Defends That Wild Easter Egg In The Season Finale: ‘I Believe That It’s True’

True Detective Night Country
HBO

WARNING: Spoilers for True Detective Season 4 Episode 6 below.

With the True Detective: Night Country finale now out in the wild, showrunner Issa López is defending the inclusion of a wild Easter egg that caught fans (and franchise creator Nic Pizzolatto) by surprise.

While Jodie Foster’s Liz Danvers and Kali Reis’ Evangeline Navarro interrogate scientist Raymond Clark (Owen McDonnell), he utters a line that will be very familiar to fans of the original season of True Detective.

Time is a flat circle,” Clark says, echoing the iconic line from Matthew McConaughey’s Rust Cohle, and further tying Night Country to the first season. However, for López, the inclusion of the line was more than just an Easter egg.

Via Decider:

“Well, number one, I believe that it is true. You know, I do believe that. In a bunch of quite advanced physics theories, time is not linear. It’s happening all at the same time,” López told Decider. “That was what Rust Cohle was referring to in that first season. Everything is happening at the same time, all the time. And we’re doomed to be trapped in it.”

López explained that she purposely gave the line to a scientist to nod to the real physics behind the theory. (Though she emphasized that Clark “has lost his mind” at this point in the story.)

As a storyteller, López also liked the concept of time being “circuitous” and expanding on that theme with her entry in the True Detective pantheon. However, the inclusion of the line apparently did not sit well with Pizzolatto. In a now-deleted Instagram post, he lashed out at Night Country being tied to the first season.

Pizzolatto has now taken a more passive-aggressive approach by encouraging people to keep their thoughts contained to a new Instagram post instead of flying into the comments of photos of his wife and recently departed father.

While Lopez has been diplomatic about Pizzolatto’s social media meltdown, Night Country star Kali Reis did not hold back her thoughts.

“That’s a damn shame,” Reis tweeted about Pizzolatto. “But hey I guess ‘if you don’t have anything good to share, shit on others’ is the new wave.”

Everything New On Netflix In March 2024, Including Astronaut Adam Sandler And Dragon-Fighting Millie Bobby Brown

Damsel Millie Bobby Brown
Netflix

Netflix somehow never runs out of original films and TV shows despite the many hurdles faced by Hollywood over the past several years. This month, Millie Bobbie Brown and Adam Sandler lead new movies, and the Game of Thrones TV creators have a new series coming your way. The streaming service also resurrected a comedy series, and Guy Ritchie is reigniting his adoration for the word “gentlemen.” It’s all good.

Beyond those new offerings, library additions are coming in hot. Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill movies will both arrive, so you can watch this scene on repeat if you so desire (don’t lie and say you won’t), and the original The Hunger Games trilogy will materialize as well. This is also your final chance to stream John Wick films on Netflix for the foreseeable future, so tick tock.

Here’s everything coming to Netflix in March:

Spaceman (Netflix film streaming 3/1)

Adam Sandler’s Netflix partnership keeps taking new turns, even if we still haven’t seen a Hubie Halloween 2. The humanity! However, this film takes Sandler back into dramatic mode as an astronaut who is attempting to fix his marriage from the depths of the solar system, and somehow, a creature hiding inside his ship decides to help him. Wait, what? The story is based upon Spaceman of Bohemia, the novel by Jaroslav Kalfař. Additionally, Carey Mulligan portrays Sandler’s movie wife, and Paul Dano voices the ship. Hmm.

Damsel (Netflix film streaming 3/28)

Another Netflix fave, Millie Bobbie Brown, kicks some dragon (and royalty) ass after discovering that she’s marrying a prince whose family decides to sacrifice her to a dragon as part of an enormously screwed-up ritual. This twisted fairy tale adapts Evelyn Skye’s twisted fairy tale novel that prioritizes world building, and this film should fly high on the streaming charts.

Girls5eva (Peacock to Netflix series streaming 3/14)

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt fans, if you didn’t check out this series while it was on Peacock for two seasons, be sure to hit up all three seasons on Netflix, which picked up the series in time for the show’s late ’90s girl group to go on tour. Surely, all will go smoothly despite the ladies having no tour manager or dates or venues or anything but a van and their own enthusiasm to relive their glory days. Netflix’s synopsis wonders, “Or will the road destroy them?” If that’s the case, then it sure will be fun to watch.

3 Body Problem (Netflix series streaming 3/21)

HBO’s Game of Thrones creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, head into the sci-fi drama realm here in this story that spans time and continents and decades. The thriller promises to bend genres with (of course) existential stakes and is based upon Liu Cixin’s bestselling novel trilogy of the same name. The title refers to three stars orbiting each other, and the story follows Earth’s discovery of aliens within this system.

The Gentlemen (Netflix series streaming 3/7)

Theo Rossi leads a whole new cast for Guy Ritchie’s continuation of the film starring Matthew McConaughey as a weed kingpin. As it turns out, Rossi’s character, Eddie, is connected to that same weed empire. It’s not a remake or a direct sequel, but this is a series that takes place in the same world, and yes, gangster-loving Guy Ritchie is very fond of “gentlemen” as well as Henry Cavill’s tongue.

Here’s everything coming to (and leaving) Netflix in March.
