If The Chiefs Win The Super Bowl, Will Taylor Swift Travel With Travis Kelce To Disneyland?

If she can make it to Las Vegas, Nevada, from her sold-out Eras Tour show in Japan on time, and if the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, and if her boyfriend Travis Kelce is named the game’s MVP, then will Taylor Swift celebrate with him at Disneyland?

That’s a lot of “ifs,” but… sure, it’s certainly possible.

Since 1987, when Super Bowl-winning New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms first uttered “I’m going to Disney World” in a Disney commercial (and was paid handsomely to do so), the winning team’s MVP frequently celebrates the victory at California’s Disneyland or The Happiest Place On Earth in Florida. This year, it’ll be Disneyland hosting the winner.

I was at Disneyland last year after the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, and it was cool seeing Patrick Mahomes waving to a sea of red jerseys on a parade float with Mickey and Minnie. He also filmed a “going to Disneyland” commercial, as is tradition.

According to CBS Sports, “The only season since 1987 in which there was no commercial for Disneyland or Disney World was in 2005. No commercial ran after the New England Patriots defeated the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XXXIX, and the exact reason for that remains unknown.” The speculation is that this was the first Super Bowl since “Nipplegate” and Disney didn’t want to be associated with such won’t-somebody-please-think-of-the-children filth.

Barring any nipple-baring controversies, what are the odds that Taylor Swift might join Travis Kelce at Disneyland?

Honestly, probably not great. Kelce is one of the best all-time at his position, but no tight end has ever won Super Bowl MVP (Mahomes is the odds-on favorite). Plus, Swift has a concert in Australia the following Friday to prepare for. And can you imagine the security nightmare of arguably the world’s most famous person stepping into the parks? Anything is possible (and she is part of the Disney family), but putting all your cash on Taylor riding Radiator Springs Racers again soon isn’t the right prop bet to make.

‘Shōgun’ Season 1: All The Details That You Need To Know (Update For February 2024)

Shogun
FX

FX tends to immerse itself in worlds and takes no shortcuts on the road(s) to authenticity. The network, in conjunction with streaming partner Hulu, has recently given us the hilariously heartbreaking Reservation Dogs, the pleasurable pressure cooker of The Bear, and the cowboy swagger of Justified: City Primeval. Now, viewers are invited to dive into historical-epic territory with a big swing into a Shōgun adaptation.

Every one of the above original offerings arrives in addition to the next-day streaming Hulu feature for loads of non-FX TV shows and movies, and then there’s the Live TV option, so Hulu almost has too much to offer. For the moment, however, we will discuss what to expect from Shōgun, which will be adapted for the first time since a 1980s miniseries. FX has fully engaged in intricate world building, as we will see in the below videos.

Plot

This limited series will infuse stunning visuals into adapting James Clavell’s renowned 1975 novel, which unfurls the first chronological part of his Asian Saga. As this behind-the-scenes featurette shows, no attention to visual detail has been spared, including that pivotal shipwreck. Eek.

The expansive story follows the outbreak of a 1600s civil war and also revolves around the accounts of an English ship captain, John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), whose shop becomes marooned, which is the first step in him becoming pivotal in the conflict, particularly on the side of Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), whose rule has been dragged into chaos by an opposing Council of Regents (i.e., “vultures”). However, Blackthorne and Toranaga must rely upon a translator, Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai), who is no mere impartial party.

Expect to see her struggling to serve both men while also juggling competing interests. After all, Blackthorne has his own enemies, and their connection complicates matters. Additionally, Toda also hails from a disgraced family and aims to maintain her relatively newfound status as a Christian noblewoman. Betrayal, competing alliances, and possible diversions involving courtesans will also abound from corners of the story.

Cast

Shogun
FX

The production encompasses a gathering of acclaimed Japanese talent. In addition to Hiroyuki Sanada as Lord Yoshii Toranaga, Cosmo Jarvis will portray John Blackthorne. Likewise, Anna Sawai steps in as translator Toda Mariko along with Moeka Hoshi as Usami Fuji, Tokuma Nishioka as Toda Hiromatsu, Yuka Kouri as Kiku, and Fumi Nikaido as Ochiba.

Release Date

This limited series will surface on February 27 with two episodes airing on FX (and next-day on Hulu). From there, we can expect a total of 10 episodes to drop on Tuesday mights. The show will also be available to stream on Disney+ with Star+ being the Latin America streamer.

Trailer

Get ready to grow acquainted with a level of wartime maneuvering that we seldom see onscreen, even with every World War II take that continues to arrive on an annual basis. Ladies and gents, this is a straight-up trailer:

Last weekend was all about music’s biggest night, better known as the Grammys. This weekend, all eyes are on Super Bowl LVIII. Some are tuning in to watch the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs duke it out. But, honestly, others are locked in just for the entertainment. Whether it’s a jumbotron cameo from Taylor Swift or Usher’s halftime show set, music lovers are looked in.

For those lucky enough to attend the live matchup, the NFL has introduced an inaugural in-game DJ. Tiësto was slated to step into the role, but unfortunately, he had to drop out due to a family emergency.

Who Is Replacing Tiësto’s As The 2024 Super Bowl In-Game DJ?

Yesterday (February 8), the league announced Kaskade as the replacement DJ.

Excited by the opportunity, Kaskade took to X (formerly Twitter) to pen a sweet message.

“As a kid who grew up in Chicago watching the NFL Super Bowl every year with my family, this chance to actually be part of it is absolutely mind-blowing,” he wrote. “Las Vegas has been my second home for the past decade, as an architect of creating a landscape that includes House and Dance Music residencies as part of its destination. To be able to be the first electronic musician to be part of the full game experience of the Super Bowl held in Las Vegas seems like coming home, and I’m beyond excited to represent my community.”

Super Bowl LVIII will air on CBS starting at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT on Sunday, February 11. Find more information here.

Did Latto Diss Nicki Minaj On ‘Sunday Service?’

Latto may say her new song “Sunday Service” isn’t a “diss song,” but that doesn’t mean she didn’t use the opportunity to take a few shots at foes like Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj. As with plenty of records in this lane, she keeps things vague enough to stick to just about anyone the taunts apply to, but not overt enough to dominate the track and derail fans’ ability to enjoy the boastful raps.

While promoting the track, Latto dropped cover artwork that featured several women in rap, which some fans interpreted as a call-out. However, she said the cover was merely paying homage to her peers and influences, whether she has beef with them or not. However, as she has had beef with Nicki Minaj in the past, fans were undoubtedly wondering if she reserved a few lines for the woman she previously dismissed as an “angry aunty.”

Well, if the shoe fits, wear it, and there is at least one line in Nicki’s dainty size. In the second verse, she raps, “These bitches corny, soon as monkey see, then you know monkey do / Do you rap or do you tweet? ‘Cause I can’t tell, get in the booth, bitch / Stop all that motherfuckin’ yellin’, ho / ‘Cause I ain’t buyin’ what you’re sellin’, ho.” Some fans have interpreted this as a shot at Nicki, who’s displayed a propensity for going on days-long Twitter rants about her enemies, but notably never actually delivered a diss track directed at Latto — although some fans stretched one particular line to make it seem she might have. Of course, Nicki’s initial attack on Latto sort of blew up in her face, so it makes sense that she’d be reluctant to do so again, preferring to instead lash out through proxy Ice Spice. We’ll see if the latest salvo changes things.

You can check out Latto’s video for “Sunday Service” above.

Michael Cera Revealed That Ben Affleck Was Slated To Appear In A Pivotal ‘Barbie’ Scene

Michael Cera Barbie
Warner Bros. Discovery

We already know that several Barbie cameos never came to fruition, and it still hurts all these months later. Even though the cast was already filled to the brim with talented actors, throwing in a few more here and there would have been fun, though it is hard to imagine anyone other than Michael Cera paying Allan (sorry, Jonathan Groff). But there were some more A-list names slated to appear in the film, and Cera recently dropped a bombshell about a major cameo that almost happened.

Cera spoke at a Q&A this week (via The A.V. Club) when he revealed that not only was Allan’s fight scene added at the last minute, but it was originally supposed to include Ben Affleck, who has also been known to throw a punch or two.

“I wasn’t even supposed to fight in the movie,” Cera revealed. “Am I allowed to say what it was supposed to be? It was supposed to be Ben Affleck. Right? Am I allowed to say that?” Even if he wasn’t allowed, he said it, so we can run with it.

Cera explained a little bit more. “I think Ben wanted to do it, but he was directing his movie,” he added, likely referring to his 2023 flick Air, which was in production around the same time. Even though Cera has been sick with COVID, they asked him to jump in on the scene. “They’re like, ‘Okay, Ben’s out, something has to happen here. So you’re gonna fight them.’ So I had to jump in with the stunt team,” he recalled, referring to a very pivotal moment in the movie when Allan defends the humans from the Kens.

He continued, “I had just gotten over COVID and they had me training, and I almost died. Just doing the warm up! I had to lay down in my trailer and they sent the nurse to see me, and I was sent home. So then we had a second rehearsal, and I learned it. That’s the story basically.”

Even though Allan was never supposed to fight the construction Kens, Cera was surprised that Gerwig was so in board with his ideas. “In the rehearsal, we did the thing where I murder the guy with the shovel and it was just a joke, and we were like ‘Greta’s not going to let me murder someone in the movie.’ And it’s in the movie!”

Between this and the long-lost Saoirse Ronan cameo, Gerwig should consider doing some reshoots for an extended cut of the movie. If they could get Affleck in The Flash, they could surely add him in the background of Barbieland. But not as Batman.

Did Latto Diss Ice Spice On ‘Sunday Service?’

After an anticipation-filled week, Latto has released the video for her new song “Sunday Service,” which fans believed to be a diss track aimed at various foes who’ve taken shots at her lately. In the lead-up to the song’s release, Latto made a trip to the Bronx, birthplace of her seeming rival Ice Spice, and released artwork depicting a number of fellow female rappers, including both up-and-coming artists and legends — and Ice was also featured.

All of this led to fans wondering whether Latto disses Ice Spice on the new song, and searching for allusions to their rivalry in its lyrics. Although the track isn’t really a diss song per se, those fans weren’t disappointed to learn that Latto does reserve a couple of lines — and even an ad-lib — for the younger rapper. She starts things off subtly, warning in the chorus, “Every time y’all book me with them hoes, it’s gon’ be big drama,” throwing in Ice’s signature ad-lib “Graaah” just to make clear which hoes to whom she is referring.

But she really squares up in verse two, directly citing Ice Spice’s recent song lashing out at her. “Think I’m the shit? Bitch, I know it, ho / Jesus walked on water, I got ice boilin’ though,” she smirks, addressing Ice’s call-out on “Think U The Sh*t (Fart),” which Ice later admitted was directed at Latto. Meanwhile, in the video, Latto makes it a point to walk into a deli (another Ice Spice reference) to buy a blunt — as in, “rolling up an opp pack,” one of those internet memes that has gone mainstream. Latto claims she didn’t realize “Fart” was about her until Ice admitted it, and even says the video that set Ice off wasn’t even intentional.

Ice isn’t the only one to catch a shot from Latto on “Sunday Service”; she also appears to serve notice to Nicki Minaj with “Do you rap or do you tweet? ‘Cause I can’t tell, get in the booth / Stop all that motherfuckin’ yellin’, ho / ‘Cause I ain’t buyin’ what you’re sellin’, ho.” Notably, fans think Ice Spice’s feud with Latto is merely an extension of Nicki’s, with Nicki using a more age-appropriate proxy to attack Latto since her initial arguments didn’t go over so well.

‘The Ones Who Live’ Creator Is Hoping He Can Pull Off The Mother Of All ‘Walking Dead’ Reunions

michonne-rick-movies.jpg
AMC

The Walking Dead spinoff series The Ones Who Live doesn’t premiere until later this month, but already, co-creator Scott Gimple is teasing his ambitious plans for the show that continues the story of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira). Namely, the mother of all reunions that would bring back Daryl (Norman Reedus), Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and Maggie (Lauren Cohan).

“There are so many things with this universe that I plan and put together, but I also know that God laughs, and you have to pivot to something else,” Gimple told Variety during The Ones Who Live‘s red carpet premiere. “I absolutely have been working towards that and hoping towards that, but we’ll see what happens. It might be a version of it that no one expects.”

However, Gimple has to first see how The Walking Dead fans react to the new spinoff series that series lead Gurira is touting as “the ultimate love story.”

“This is the apocalypse meets an epic love story, and we didn’t really get a lot of space for that in the mothership because there were so many other stories going on at the same time,” Gurira said. “But this story is all about, does love win out in this world?”

Here’s the official synopsis:

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premieres February 25 on AMC.

How Long Is Usher’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Performance?

This weekend will feature one of the biggest days of Usher’s career, when he takes the field at Super Bowl LVIII for the halftime show. Usher has a number of hits spread throughout his storied career, but he’ll likely have to pass over some of them given the time restraints of the performance. Just how much time will Usher have, though?

How Long Is Usher’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Performance?

Usually, performers are given 13 minutes for their halftime shows. Usher, however, said in a recent Entertainment Tonight interview that he managed to get 15 minutes. He said, “I can’t explain why, but it’s a funny thing that I was able to do and craft. That was a huge strategic thing that happened between me and my agency.”

In the same conversation, he explained that Rihanna’s Super Bowl performance from 2023 was a big inspiration for his, saying, “Rihanna’s was fire because of the choreography and the way they did something that felt like a concert. It actually was a great deal of inspiration [for] how I began to think of my show. If you ever came to my residency, it was all about being immersed — being immersed in an experience that is all of these things that wouldn’t necessarily go together.”

The ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ Super Bowl Spot With Lupita Nyong’o And A ‘Stranger Things’ Star Will Have People Talking

Is there any contemporary actor who’s better at emoting than Lupita Nyong’o? That’s a rhetorical question: there isn’t. Nyong’o can say so much without saying anything at all, as seen in the 30-second Super Bowl spot for A Quiet Place: Day One.

The prequel to 2018’s A Quiet Place and 2020’s A Quiet Place Part II takes place, as you might imagine, on day one of humans having to be silent or else they’ll be ripped apart by monsters. The official synopsis: “Experience the day the world went quiet.” The cast also includes Joseph Quinn (a.k.a. Eddie Munson from Stranger Things), Alex Wolff, Djimon Hounsou (reprising his role from A Quiet Place Part II), and a very good cat.

“When you have a family, there is an innate expectation that they will want to stick together,” Nyong’o told Entertainment Weekly, referring to Emily Blunt & Co. in the first two A Quiet Place films. “We don’t have that in this film. We have these disparate individuals who collide into each other’s lives, and it is at a very pivotal time for the world. How do they negotiate survival together? What we get is really interesting — and even surprising — chemistry in the characters that meet each other along the way.”

A Quiet Place: Day One comes out on June 28.

d4vd Serves Fans A Double Scoop Of New Music With The Nostalgic ‘Leave Her’ And ‘2016’

D4VD
Getty Image

Houstonian alt-rocker d4vd (pronounced “David”) had an impressive breakout in 2023 with his songs “Romantic Homicide” and “Here With Me,” which both tapped into Gen Z and Alpha nostalgia for millennial alt-rock aesthetics and turned him into a star with two Interscope EPs. d4vd carries that momentum into a new year with his next release, a double single consisting of “Leave Her” and “2016.”

“Leave Her” is upbeat but mellow and dance floor-ready — like something you’d hear on any given Tuesday on the WB in 1998, probably during a club scene where the underage stars of the show (played by thirty-year-olds) would somehow be inexplicably hanging out. Meanwhile, “2016” is more pop-punk, giving off that vibe of suburban slacker/rebel skating in an empty backyard swimming pool. Think a Sum41 or Offspring video, only slightly more chill. None of this is a bad thing, by the way. I grew up on this stuff. I love this kid so much, even if I was a grown man with bills and a pile of wedding invitations in 2016.

d4vd was added to SZA’s SOS Tour as an opener last summer and it’s clear he’s taken plenty of inspiration from her as a musical mentor. Her own music has begun to employ that millennial nostalgia factor, tapping into that part of 30-year-olds’ brains that wishes we could all go back to being 13 again — y’know, before the housing crisis and 9/11 borked our chances at ever having a normal life. So, yeah, give us more, d4vd — it’s the only thing keeping us going at this point. Thank you for your service.

You can listen to “Leave Her” and “2016” below.
