The NBA’s Assist Of The Year Came Off Of This Unbelievable Nutmeg By Jordan McLaughlin

jordan mclaughlin
Twitter

The Minnesota Timberwolves were able to cruise to a win over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. Minnesota played host to their Western Conference foes, and behind a dominant performance in the second half, were able to pick up a 121-87 win to stay in the 1-seed.

Things got so one-sided in the fourth quarter that both coaches were able to empty their benches and let their reserves get a little bit of run. Fortunately for Minnesota, this gave Jordan McLaughlin the opportunity to pull off maybe the most ridiculous assist we’ve seen out of an NBA player this season. An attempted three by Troy Brown Jr. missed everything, and McLaughlin was able to track it down, save it, and throw a bounce pass that led to a Shake Milton bucket. It was a very impressive play by him, and then, you see it from an alternate angle, which shows that McLaughlin — while in midair and falling out of bounds — threw the bounce pass right between the legs of Richaun Holmes.

Milton deserves credit for corralling this and getting a bucket so this can go down in the record books as an assist, but my goodness, McLaughlin’s going to deservedly end up on a bunch of highlight reels for this one.

Self-Proclaimed ‘Weirdo’ Trippie Redd Requested Everyone ‘Stop Saying I Worship The Devil,’ Which, Fair

For whatever reason, people alleging devil worship has become a hot trend in music. Lil Nas X went through it, spurning on the trolls with “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” Doja Cat is currently at the center of it, and she continues to fight against claims she’s in The Illuminati as a satanist in regular interviews as well as a spoof interview with her alter ego.

Now, it’s Trippie Redd’s turn. On Wednesday, January 31, the rapper went on Instagram Live and shut down relentless speculation that he, too, worships the devil.

“Bro, I don’t worship the f*cking devil,” he said, as captured by No Jumper and XXL. “I don’t know why you [expletive] keep saying that sh*t. Stop saying I worship the devil, bro. Like, what the f*ck? I can’t wear all black? I been wearing all black! That’s my theme. I just don’t get it. Like, stop saying I worship the f*cking devil.”

Trippie also asked God to “cleanse these people’s hearts” because “sitting here judging somebody and bullying them is the new standard to, ‘Oh, let’s bully him into God’.” He clarified, “I already f*ck with God.” The rapper casually walked through his mansion to show viewers he is “blessed and highly favored” and “not a hater,” so, contrary to popular belief, “I could really be a savior.”

In case viewers still weren’t convinced, Trippie Redd explained himself further. “Since [I was] a kid, I’ve always liked horror movies, and I like video games,” he said. “I’m just a weirdo, bro. I like to get tats on my face! I like to wear all black! I like to look goth! Feel me? Sh*t’s a lifestyle. Maybe I’m depressed. Maybe I like to be the gloomy one in the room. I’m from Ohio. It’s always gloomy there. Y’all don’t get it. I’m a real sadboi. I’m a real loner. Maybe I hide it with my personality and sh*t, but so what? I’m human.”

This isn’t the first time Trippie Redd has pushed back against satanist speculation. In March 2018, as relayed by Complex, he explained the real reason behind his frequent references to “666.”

“A lot of y’all are blind to reality,” he said in an Instagram Story at the time. “Six protons, six neutrons, six electrons. Melanin in Black people’s skin. Do your research. Now, why I say TR666? Because Trippie Redd is Black, but Trippie Redd is also dark. I make dark music, but I’m Black, so I use it as a metaphor. Make sure you do your research, man, because these people could be telling you, like, 666 is the mark of the beast.”

Damian Lillard Received A Monster Ovation From Blazers Fans In His Return To Portland

damian lillard
Twitter

For the first time in his NBA career, Damian Lillard played a game in Portland as a member of the visiting team. Lillard and the Milwaukee Bucks took on the Blazers in the Moda Center on Wednesday night, which marked Lillard’s return to the city after the offseason trade that sent him to the Eastern Conference.

Prior to the start of the game, Blazers fans were given the opportunity to express their appreciation for arguably the greatest player in franchise history. Lillard got introduced as a member of Milwaukee’s starting lineup, which led to a gigantic ovation from the Blazers fans in attendance.

And during a first quarter stoppage in play, the team aired a tribute video looking back on some of Lillard’s finest moment as a Blazer.

Lillard spent the first 11 years of his career in Portland, as the team selected him sixth overall in the 2011 NBA Draft. At the start of free agency this past summer, Lillard officially requested a trade, and while his preferred landing spot was the Miami Heat, Portland’s front office slow played things before agreeing to a deal with the Bucks in September. It was a three-team deal that involved the Phoenix Suns, and led to Milwaukee parting ways a package that included Jrue Holiday and its unprotected 2029 first-round pick.

Ahead of Wednesday night’s game, Lillard was averaging 25.1 points, 6.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals in 35.2 minutes per game for the 2-seed in the Eastern Conference.

Is Justin Bieber Releasing An Album In 2024?

Justin Bieber November 2023
Getty Image

Justin Bieber has embraced the Proud Husband role since being forced to postpone his Justice World Tour due to health concerns in late 2022, before eventually officially canceling it in early 2023. Bieber’s most recent full-length album was Justice in March 2021. So he’s due — we’re all due for new Bieber — and it appears he’s gearing up to put his pop star cape back on.

Is Justin Bieber Releasing An Album In 2024?

Bieber has not announced that new music is imminent, but this week he sure is hinting at it. He’s been relatively quiet on Instagram while off cycle, but he (for lack of a better term) spammed his starving fans this week with several Instagram carousels filled with photos from the studio and a rehearsal space.

It’s also worth noting that Bieber will be prominently featured during NHL All-Star Weekend in Toronto, Ontario, Canada this weekend. The NHL already unveiled All-Star jerseys co-designed by Bieber’s Drew House and Adidas, and Bieber has been announced as the celebrity captain of Team Matthews (named after Auston Matthews, Bieber’s longtime friend who happens to be the best player on Bieber’s lifelong favorite team, the Toronto Maple Leafs).

All of which is to say, NHL All-Star feels like a natural launching pad for Bieber’s next era.

Sidney Powell Had A Plan To Steal Voting Machines That Was So Crazy Even Rudy Giuliani Nixed It

Sidney Powell Rudy Giuliani
Getty Image

Hard to believe it’s been just over three years since the Trump team’s madcap attempts to overturn an election. Even stranger is it might happen again. But November’s a long ways away, and besides, people are still uncovering bananas antics perpetrated by the former president and his bumbling cronies. For instance, we’re only now learning that cuckoo Trump attorney Sidney Powell hatched a scheme to pilfer voting machines that was so out-there even Rudy Giuliani shot it down.

Per Mediaite, in their new, long-titled book Find Me the Votes: A Hard-Charging Georgia Prosecutor, a Rogue President, and the Plot to Steal an American Election, reporters Michael Isikoff and Daniel Klaidman wanted ex-intel operatives to break into election offices and steal machines so they could prove alleged malfeasance. She even wanted to get preemptive pardons, just in case they got caught breaking the law. Oh, and they had to have hunting licenses.

Here’s some of her plan, per Iskioff and Klaidman’s book:

The idea was to tap ex-intel operatives who would break into election offices in swing states and seize Dominion voting machines and servers so they could prove the equipment had been hacked by foreign powers. The operatives would need hunting licenses in order to fulfill their mission. “Hunting licenses? What in the world were they talking about?”

Powell chimed in. “Pardon.” She said. “From President Trump, I need six to eight pardons. But these weren’t ordinary pardons for past misconduct. They would be preemptive pardons,” she explained, an advance permission slip from the president to protect the operatives from criminal prosecution in the future, should any pesky prosecutors go after them for breaching an election office and stealing data.

Powell was so gung-ho for this plan, which shares some DNA with the Watergate break-in, that she went right to the top…or to another of the top dog’s lawyers.

“They actually went to, Trump campaign headquarters and to Rudy Giuliani, to to get him to ask the president,” Klaidman said, during an appearance on MSNBC. “He said, well, this is, this may go a little too far. This is impractical.”

When you’ve lost the mystery goo guy, it might be time to put down the Dr. Pepper and look in the mirror. Likewise it might be time for Republican voters to seriously ask themselves if they want this nonsense back in the White House.

Nicki Minaj Is Still Insulting Megan Thee Stallion, And This Time, It’s A Rant Involving Rihanna And YouTube Bots

Nicki Minaj
Getty Image

Somehow Nicki Minaj has not run out of things to say about Megan Thee Stallion. The pair’s beef escalated when Meg seemed to diss Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, on her new single, “Hiss.” Minaj responded quickly with a diss track, “Big Foot,” where Minaj ruthlessly attacks Megan Thee Stallion’s personal and professional struggles of late.

On Tuesday, January 30, TMZ reported that security had been increased at the gravesite of Megan’s late mother, Holly Thomas, after its location was shared online (reportedly by the Barbz). You would think there would be nowhere to go with this after that, but Minaj then hopped on Joe Budden’s X (formerly Twitter) Spaces on Wednesday, January 31.

HipHopDX captured portions of Minaj’s rant in the Space. It’s dizzying, to say the least, and nobody can be blamed for not comprehending a word Minaj said, but we will attempt a summary.

Minaj questioned how Megan could be “twerking two days later,” referencing when the since-convicted Tory Lanez shot Megan Thee Stallion in the feet in July 2020. “First of all, emotionally — even emotionally — you just got shot,” Minaj said while cackling, and then clumsily stumbled into “what really grinded my f*cking gears,” which was that a producer bragged on social media about “not clearing a beat for Nicki Minaj.”

That led into a complaint about YouTube bots, Twitter ads, longtime music executive Lyor Cohen, and “the paid for TikToks, the paid for tweets, to the point where people got their little $250 for they tweet to say something bad about Nicki Minaj.” TLDR: Minaj alleged “a smear campaign” against her by people who believe she’s “crazy.”

Eventually, Minaj got back to Megan Thee Stallion, comparing how she handled her trauma from Lanez shooting her versus Rihanna’s domestic violence at the hands of Chris Brown.

“Rihanna is just known for being herself,” Minaj said. “You get what you see. You see what you get, you get what you see type of vibe, right? […] That’s what we know Ri as. Rihanna never would milk something like this. Like, you could tell she couldn’t wait to get that part of her life — you could tell she couldn’t wait to just try to move on with her life. You understand?”

Minaj continued, “And then, people even bashed her for not dragging it out, not milking it. And she was just like, ‘Yo, I was mad young. We were young. I just wanna move on with my life now.’ You know why? Because Rihanna knows that she was a superstar, with or without controversy. She’s beautiful, with or without controversy. She’s loved, with or without controversy. I’m sorry — sympathy. Sympathy, sympathy, sympathy.”

Say Goodbye To Sharing Your Passwords For Hulu, Which Is Going The Way Of Fellow Corporate Streamer Disney+

the bear
YouTube

Remember streaming password sharing? For ages the online movie and TV companies did nothing as subscribers gleefully gave their logins to everyone they knew. Who could afford to watch all the hot shows when subscribing to every streamer was costing more than having cable? Turns out that wasn’t profitable for the companies. Netflix started cracking down first. Disney+ followed suit later (while raising rates). Now the axe is coming down for one of their fellow corporate streamers.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, subscribers to Hulu — which, like ESPN, is also owned by Disney — received a surprise email on Wednesday bearing a new agreement, effective starting March 12.

“Unless otherwise permitted by your Service Tier, you may not share your subscription outside of your household,” it read. “‘Household’ means the collection of devices associated with your primary personal residence that are used by the individuals who reside therein.”

There was also some ominous threats.

“We may, in our sole discretion, analyze the use of your account to determine compliance with this Agreement,” the message read. “If we determine, in our sole discretion, that you have violated this Agreement, we may limit or terminate access to the Service and/or take any other steps as permitted by this Agreement.”

The move was teased last summer during a Disney earnings call, when honcho Bob Iger said he and his team were “actively exploring ways to address account sharing and the best options for paying subscribers to share their accounts with friends and family.” The solution they came up with? Only sharing accounts with family and/or friends subscribers live with.

The news comes after Netflix, which was once bleeding subscribers and cash, reported two consecutive quarters of big subscriber growth, totaling 22 million. Surely Disney is hoping the same windfall will happen to their streamers.

So if you’ve been sharing your Hulu login — or, better yet, been generously gifted with someone else’s — you have less than a month-and-a-half to change your ways. The move should particularly irk those who’ve been handed logins to Hulu’s ad-free version, because ads are so numerous now that viewers aren’t the only ones annoyed.

We Ranked The Best Bock Beers To Drink Right Now

Ayinger/Troegs/Paulaner/Rogue/istock/Uproxx
Ayinger/Troegs/Paulaner/Rogue/istock/Uproxx

The bock is a great beer style for the winter. This dark lager known for its rich, caramel malt flavor (often made with Vienna or Munich malts) is so rich, flavorful, and refreshing that you’ll want to continue drinking it well into the spring. Maibocks, doppelbocks, and traditional German bocks — we’re happy to spend these colder months drinking them all!

You might have noticed that bock beers are often adorned with an image of a goat. The reason for this is because of confusion with an accent. As the story goes, the style was originally called Einbock when it was first brewed in Bavaria. When it made its way south to Munich, the city’s brewers thought it was called “ein bock” which means a male goat. They began calling the beer bock (dropping the original “ein”) and… that’s still the name it goes by today.

Now that you’ve learned a little bit about the style, it’s time to find some bocks to drink this winter. Lucky for you, we did all the work — finding eight great bock beers and ranked them on flavor and overall seasonal appropriateness. Keep scrolling to see them all.

8.) Lakefront Maibock

Lakefront Maibock
Lakefront

ABV: 6.8%

Average Price: $11 for a six-pack

The Beer:

This German-style lager is brewed each year to celebrate the return of spring even though they release it in January. Since we’ve got that spring feeling too, we love this malty, sweet, lightly hoppy beer brewed with 2-row Pale base malt, Vienna malt, Munich malt, and Caramel malt as well as Mt. Hood and German Saphir hops.

Tasting Notes:

This golden-hued lager begins with a nose of freshly baked bread, clover honey, sweet malts, and spicy, floral hops. The palate continues this trend with a ton of caramel, bready malts, citrus peels, honey, cereal grains, and floral, earthy hops. The finish is hoppy, crisp, and very memorable.

Bottom Line:

This is a classic, no-frills, crisp, flavorful bock that you’ll want to continue drinking well into the spring.

7.) Rogue Dead Guy Ale

Rogue Dead Guy Ale
Rogue

ABV: 6.8%

Average Price: $12 for a six-pack

The Beer:

Rogue Dead Guy Ale is one of the most popular bock beers in America. This German Maibock-style lager is brewed with 2-row, C15, and Munich malts as well as Pacman yeast and Perle and Sterling hops. It’s adorned with a skeleton, but there’s nothing spooky about this full-flavored beer.

Tasting Notes:

A nose of dried fruit, honey, orchard fruits, orange peels, caramel malts, and floral hops greets you before your first sip. Drinking it reveals notes of caramel malts, candied nuts, honey, yeasty bread, and snappy, floral, lightly spicy hops. The finish is gently bitter and leaves you wanting more.

Bottom Line:

Rogue Dead Guy Ale is for the beer drinkers who prefer a little more hop bite in their bock beers.

6.) Paulaner Salvator

Paulaner Salvator
Paulaner

ABV: 7.9%

5.) New Glarus Uff-Da

New Glarus Uff-Da
New Glarus

ABV: 6.7%

Average Price: $9 for a six-pack

The Beer:

This traditional German-style bock was brewed using the Reinheitsgebot beer purity laws. It’s made with simple ingredients with nothing extra. This means it’s only made with malted barley, malted wheat, hops, yeast, and water. The result is a classic bock known for its mix of coffee, chocolate, caramel, and floral notes.

Tasting Notes:

On the nose, you’ll find aromas of freshly baked bread, toffee, dark chocolate, coffee, and light floral hops. Drinking it brings forth notes of freshly baked bread, bitter chocolate, coffee beans, dried fruit, and floral, grassy hops. The finish is malty and sweet.

Bottom Line:

While there are some small hints of hops, this is a winter (and spring) beer for fans of malty, sweet, coffee, and chocolate-filled bocks.

3.) Weihenstephaner Korbinian

Weihenstephaner Korbinian
Weihenstephaner

ABV: 7.4%

Average Price: $5 for a 16.9-ounce bottle

The Beer:

Named after Saint Korbinian to honor the founder of the Weihenstephan monastery, Weihenstephaner Korbinian is a strong, malty, sweet doppelbock. It’s well-known for its complex flavor profile of sweet malts, dried fruits, and rich chocolate.

Tasting Notes:

On the nose, you’ll find roasted malts, toffee, candied orange peels, raisins, and chocolate. The palate continues this trend with notes of freshly baked bread, dark chocolate, caramel, plums, more orange peels, and roasted malts. The finish is a mix of sweetness and bitterness.

Bottom Line:

Weihenstephaner Korbinian is a rich, sweet, highly complex doppelbock that you’ll look forward to drinking every winter (and the rest of the year for that matter).

2.) Schilling Burkhart

Schilling Burkhart
Schilling

ABV: 7%

Average Price: $18 for a four-pack of 16-ounce cans

The Beer:

If you’re a fan of American takes on classic European beer styles and you’ve never had Schilling, what are you waiting for? We suggest Burkhart, the New Hampshire-based brewery’s take on the German bockbier style. It’s known for its mix of caramel malts and gentle hop bitterness.

Tasting Notes:

The aromas of freshly baked bread, sweet toffee, roasted malts, candied nuts, and dried fruits greet you before you even take a sip. The palate is filled with caramel candy, yeasty bread, raisins, figs, honey, molasses, and gently bitter, floral hops at the very end. A truly balanced, highly flavorful bock.

1.) Ayinger Celebrator

Ayinger Celebrator
Ayinger

Tasting Notes:

A lot is going on with this beer’s nose. There are notes of sweet malts, dried cherries, toffee, and chocolate. Drinking it propels you into a symphony of flavors including dark chocolate, coffee, molasses, dried cherries, raisins, and roasted malts. The finish is lightly bitter and leaves you wanting more.

Bottom Line:

If you only try one bock on this list, make it Ayinger Celebrator. It’s so flavorful that it will change your whole idea of what a great beer can be.

How Long Is André 3000’s ‘New Blue Sun Live Tour’ Concert?

André 3000 held his one-night-only New Blue Sun IMAX Live Experience on January 23. Luckily, it won’t end there. On January 23, André 3000 also announced he would support his purely instrumental album with a run of dates billed as New Blue Sun Live, beginning on January 29 in Brooklyn before hitting Blue Note New York in New York City from Wednesday, January 31 until Friday, February 2.

How Long Is André 3000’s New Blue Sun Live Tour Concert?

According to a Reddit user who attended the first show in Brooklyn, André 3000 and his band “played for 90 minutes, cellphones weren’t allowed, and at no point did it get boring.”

“Native ATLien and lifelong ‘Kast devotee who just happened to be in NY this week for a work trip, so I was able to catch the inaugural show in Brooklyn.

It was really pure and beautiful — it’s clear that not one iota of it is contrived, and it’s not a display of virtuosity on Dre’s part, but of exploring the joy of finding beautiful ways to express what he’s been thinking and feeling (he’s arguably the biggest virtuoso ever at rap, so nothing to prove).

All the players in the band are stone cold killer and kept a vibe going all night. Dre worked thru technical difficulties and nerves early on by talking a pretty good bit about what joy the journey of playing flute (with no real intention) has brought him and others around him. This man redefined a genre, made a diamond-selling album, and is approaching this new thing with the joy and curiosity of a child, in the best way.

He also specifically thanked the rap fans in the audience for coming to support and expressed that he hoped they dug it in some way.

They played for 90 minutes, cell phones weren’t allowed, and at no point did it get boring. It’s an utterly unique experience, and if you go in with an open spirit, you might just unlock a new core memory.

Can’t wait to see what others think as the tour rolls on.”
