Ayo Edebiri Seemingly Addressed Her Resurfaced Comments About Jennifer Lopez During A Game Show Sketch On ‘SNL’

In the modern day of technology, many of us have learned the hard lesson that past posts and comments can come back to haunt us. Such was the case for Ayo Edebiri on tonight’s episode of Saturday Night Live.

During a sketch, Edebiri, along with SNL cast members Andrew Dismuskes and Chloe Fineman, play contestants competing on a game show called Why Did I Say That?, hosted by Kenan Thompson. During the game show, Thompson retrieved past comments left on people’s posts by the contestants. The comments range from sexually objectifying to threatening death. The rules of the game entailed each contestant explaining why they left such comments on the posts.

After being forced to revisit those comments, Edebiri’s character decided she had enough.

“We get it,” Edebiri said. “It’s wrong to leave mean comments, or post comments just for clout, or run your mouth on a podcast, and you don’t consider the impact because you’re 24 and stupid. But I think I speak for everyone when I say from now on, we’re gonna be a lot more thoughtful about what we post online.”

Perhaps Edebiri’s character is referring to a guest appearance she made on Laci Mosley’s Scam Goddess podcast back in 2020, during which, Edebiri alluded to rumors that Jennifer Lopez — who was tonight’s musical guest — uses ghost singers on her track.

“She thinks she’s on multiple tracks, but it’s not her,” Edebiri said at the time. “I think she thinks that she’s still good even though she’s not singing for most of these songs.”

Though tonight, it seemed that Lopez and Edebiri were both in good spirits. Perhaps they’ve put their differences aside?

‘SNL’ Inexplicably Decided To Have Nikki Haley On The Show And People Are Letting Them Have It

Saturday Night Live has never shyed away from controversy. But tonight’s opening monologue proved to be a thorn in people’s side. During a sketch satirizing a Republican presidential primary, candidate Nikki Haley made a surprise appearance to ask Donald Trump (played by James Austin Johnson) some burning questions.

But tonight’s host, Ayo Edebiri, had a question for Haley.

“I was just curious, what would you say was the main cause of the civil war, and do you think it starts with an ‘S’ and ends with a ‘LAVERY?,’” Edeberi asked.

This particular question alluded to a December 2023 town hall in New Hampshire, where Haley said that the Civil War was “basically how the government was going to run. The freedoms and what people could and couldn’t do,” and failed to acknowledge slavery.

As one could expect, Haley’s guest appearance didn’t go over well with viewers. Many took to Twitter to express their chagrin over Haley’s SNL appearance.

“turning SNL on to watch ayo edebiri host and being met with real life actual nikki haley is one of the grossest cons of all time,” said one viewer on Twitter.

“We really didn’t need Nikki Haley in the cold open, especially since she wasn’t funny,” said another.

“We are all these extras,” said a viewer, commenting on a picture of background actors appearing disgruntled as Haley’s surprise appearance was revealed.

Tonight (February 3) Jennifer Lopez made her fifth appearance on Saturday Night Live as the musical guest. The performance arrives ahead of her upcoming album, This Is Me…Now, which will be accompanied by a film, streaming on Prime Video. And with her performance of the album’s lead single, “Can’t Get Enough,” Lopez gave us a taste of what to expect, by showing off her theatrics.

While on stage, Lopez moved effortlessly to the festive beat. Joined by dancers matching her energy, Lopez continued to ride the high ahead of This Is Me…Now, which was largely inspired by her rekindled romance with her now-husband, Ben Affleck.

Dressed in black and white, Lopez and her dancers were celebrating the ultimate wedding bash. Midway through the performance, she was joined by rapper Latto, who contributed a verse to the song’s remix, which was released last month. While Latto’s surprise appearance was rather short, she didn’t once miss a beat.

Toward the end of the performance, rapper Redman made a surprise appearance, adding yet another new verse to “Can’t Get Enough.”

Drake Seemingly Shades Rihanna During The Opening Night Of ‘It’s All A Blur Tour — Big As The What?’

Drake’s growing tension with Rihanna has seeped into his live sets.

The status of the rumored ex-lovers (with matching tattoos) appears to be far from cordial. In 2023, fans began to speculate that Drake was sending shots at Rihanna on his song “Fear Of Heights” off his album, For All The Dogs. Now, users online believe he’s back to his shady ways.

During the opening night of the It’s All A Blur Tour — Big As The What? in Tampa, Florida, Drake refused to perform his parts of Rihanna’s hit 2016 song “Work.” Instead of completely removing the tour’s setlist, Drake allowed concertgoers to jam out as he enjoyed a brief break between records.

“I don’t sing this song anymore,” he said. “But you [all] can sing it though.”

Once an attendee posted the clip, users online rushed to respond to Drake’s remarks.

“I mean, they broke up, so it makes sense,” wrote one user.

“It’s a timeless hit, but Aubrih has been over, so I get it,” penned another.

“He’s never gonna get over her, is he,” added a user.

“He’s so lame…why play the song in the first place,” asked another.

Drake has undoubtedly come a long way from professing his wish to get married and start a family with Rihanna. Or even him begging for her to release a new album.

Is J. Cole’s New Album ‘The Fall Off’ Finished?

To borrow a phrase from today’s cool kids, J. Cole is back outside. In 2023 alone, the “No Role Modelz” rapper has connected with several of his rap friends, including Lil Durk, Bas, and Lil Yachty, to flood the market with fresh verses.

Along the way, he even secured his first No. 1 record, thanks to Drake’sFirst Person Shooter.” But fans are desperate for Cole to step away from the collaborations for a moment to drop solo material. Fortunately, the wait could be over soon. With a few previously teased projects still in limbo, what does Cole plan to release first? According to a video circulating online, Cole’s putting all his efforts into wrapping up his highly-anticipated album, The Fall Off.

Is J. Cole’s New Album’ The Fall Off’ Finished?

According to J. Cole, the long-awaited project is nearly complete. In a video captured by one concertgoer during the opening night of the It’s All A Blur Tour — Big As The What? he shared a status report on the album.

“Right now, I’m at the tale end of working on this album,” he said. “This album that I’ve been working on for a long time. It’s called ‘The Fall Off,’ but I don’t know how many people know about it. I feel like I ain’t never said that sh*t out loud, but I’m right there. And as I approach the end, I just be thinking to myself and rethinking sh*t.”

But The Fall Off isn’t the only body of work Cole teased to supporters. Back in 2020, Cole took to Instagram to share a photo suggesting that before The Fall Off, he planned to release another album titled It’s A Boy. So, could Cole have plans to release a two-pack as a token of appreciation for supporters’ patience? Or is that another musical dream deferred, like the collaboration album with Kendrick Lamar? The world will know soon enough.

Sterling K. Brown Is ‘Totally Fine’ With (Possibly) Losing An Oscar To Robert Downey Jr.

Sterling K. Brown has plenty of trophies. He’s even one of those actors who has their own awards page on Wikipedia. This year, though, he finally got his first Oscar nomination. It’s for his scene-stealing turn as the unpredictable brother to Jeffrey Wright’s disgruntled novelist in American Fiction, and he’s great in it. But there’s one person who thinks Brown won’t win: himself. In fact he even predicted who he’s going to lose to, about which he’s fine.

“I’mma tell you: Robert Downey Jr.’s gonna win, and he’s incredibly deserving. He’s an incredible actor. Like, you should give him love,” Brown said during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. “The fact that I get a chance to be nominated along with him and Mr. [Robert] De Niro and Ryan Gosling and [Mark] Ruffalo… I’m just happy to be in the room.”

Downey, of course, is nominated for his intense work in Oppenheimer, in which he played hissable antagonist Lewis Strauss, the man partly responsible for pettily ending our hero’s security clearance and arguably making the future a more dangerous place. It’s only his third-ever nomination, his first since 1992’s Chaplin. Yes, he really wasn’t nominated for Zodiac. Or Wonder Boys. Or Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. But he was nominated for Tropic Thunder, playing a pompous actor who has his skin dyed black to play a Black character.

Elsewhere during his Graham Norton Show appearance, Brown made another prediction: that Colman Domingo, nominated for the civil rights era biopic Rustin, may trounce Paul Giamatti, Bradley Cooper, Cillian Murphy, and Jeffrey Wright.

“Colman will probably win,” Brown said. “I know that I’m not going to win.”

Prove him wrong, AMPAS, at least about himself! The Oscars are set to take place on March 10. You can watch the full Graham Norton Show episode below.

Zach LaVine Will Have Season-Ending Surgery On His Right Foot

zach lavine

For the past few months there has been considerable speculation about Zach LaVine’s future in Chicago, which at one point seemed a near lock to come to an end. However, trade rumors regarding LaVine have cooled, with there not being a clear market for the former All-Star guard that matches what the Bulls want in return for him.

Complicating matters has been LaVine’s health, as he’s played in only 25 games this year due to a foot injury, returning from an extended absence for a stretch in January before missing the last six games once again. Ultimately, LaVine, his camp, and the Bulls medical staff have decided it’s in his best interest to shut it down for the year and have surgery to fully correct the issue, as announced in a team release on Saturday.

After seeking additional medical opinions, in consultation with the Chicago Bulls training and medical staff, guard Zach LaVine and Klutch Sports Group have elected surgery on LaVine’s right foot as the next step in his recovery process. Surgery is anticipated the week of February 5.

LaVine will be out 4-6 months. Updates will be provided as necessary.

Opting for surgery naturally brings an end to any trade speculation for this season, as LaVine has been in and out of the lineup as he’s dealt with the injury and now can focus on getting fully healthy for next year, as he is expected to be back to full strength by August. For the Bulls, they’ll continue to lean on Coby White in his breakout year to provide the scoring punch in the backcourt that is lost with LaVine’s absence, and they will spend the second half of the year looking to evaluate exactly what they have and what direction they want to go this offseason.

From industry dinners to performance showcases leading up to the official ceremony, Ice Spice has her plate full. Still, she found time to clear up a few rumors circulating online.

During a Twitter Space with supporters, Ice Spice confirmed that her latest single, “Think U The Sh*t (Fart),” supposedly of her forthcoming debut album, Y2K, is indeed a diss directed at her foe and Uproxx cover star Latto. “The thing for me is, why am I seeing that I’m in the back [on the television screen] of your weak ass snippet,” she said. “So, I was like, ‘Wait, is that me?’ So, I’m like, ‘Since we’re talking about me, let’s talk about me. And I dropped [‘Think U The Sh*t (Fart)’].”

The video in question was of Latto teasing an unreleased track. As she raps: “Every time y’all put me with them hoes, it’s gon’ be big drama / Twenty black Suburbans, we pull up like Sunday Service / I just want a one on one, don’t know why she so nervous,” Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice’s visual for “Barbie World” plays in the background.

The two rappers’ ongoing feud has fanbases online digging for subliminal digs at one another. The musicians haven’t held back from taking jabs at each on wax. Folks believe Latto’s recent verse on “Fine As Can Be” was her latest dig at Ice Spice.

Conan Gray Jokes That His ‘Career Is Over’ Following UMG’s Decision To Pull Its Artists’ Music From TikTok

TikTok’s influence can no longer be denied. But to be specific, the beloved social media app’s impact on music has made it the go-to marketing vehicle for record labels and artists alike. So, when Universal Music Group pulled its entire roster of musicians’ catalogs from the platform, the industry noticed.

Several industry executives have applauded the decision due to the app’s refusal to increase its payout rate. However, many artists are too keen on what’s happening. While attending a pre-Grammy event, Uproxx cover star and “Winner” singer Conan Gray gave his opinion.

“My career is over, for sure,” he joked while speaking with Rolling Stone. “I’m never gonna have a hit song again at this rate.”

After getting the humor out of the way, Gray speculated what could happen next for musicians such as himself.

“No, no, it’s fine. TikTok has its ups and downs, and I guess we’ll see what happens. I guess we’ll be creative. There’s gonna be a lot of interesting acappella covers happening from UMG artists until this is settled.”

Conan found success partly due to the platform’s algorithm (as explained to Cherise Johnson during his appearance on Uproxx’s How I Blew Up), so his take on the tension was interesting for fans to hear. But with the lead single to his forthcoming album, Found Heaven, slated to drop soon, supporters are slightly pissed that they won’t be able to use it on TikTok.

Found Heaven is out 4/5 via Republic Records. Find more information here.
