Chris Christie Ended His Trump-Trashing Presidential Campaign With A Bang By Accidentally Dissing Nikki Haley Over A Hot Mic

When Chris Christie announced his latest presidency, he had a perfectly cromulent reason for running: He mostly wanted to trash his former pal Donald Trump. Where the rest of his Republican opponents danced around criticizing the guy who crushed everyone in the polls, the former New Jersey governor gleefully trashed him (and sometimes human “ChatGPT” Vivek Ramaswamy) every chance he could. But it’s all over now, with Christie suspending his floundering campaign. At least he did it with a bang.

https://twitter.com/BillMelugin_/status/174520922635025617

Per The Daily Beast, before Christie walked up to a podium to formally end his 2024 presidential run, he happened to be caught on a hot mic talking to Wayne MacDonald, a longtime supporter and former New Hampshire Republican Party chairman, during which he speculated that Nikki Haley, who’s been gunning to replace her former boss, Trump, on the GOP ticket, hasn’t got a chance in heck.

“People don’t wanna hear it, Wayne,” Christie told MacDonald. “We know we’re right, but they don’t wanna hear it. We couldn’t have been any clearer, we couldn’t have worked any harder… And look, she’s spent $68 million so far, just on TV… and we’ve spent 12. I mean, who’s punching above their weight?”

He added, “She’s gonna get smoked. You and I both know it, she’s not up to this.”

Though Christie didn’t mention Haley’s name during the discussion, it’s not hard to suss out who he’s talking about. Who else could it be?

Luckily one of the 2024 candidates who hasn’t suspended his struggling campaign agrees with him.

Of course, even if Christie is done campaigning, that doesn’t mean he has to stop trashing the guy who might become president a second time despite having a profoundly broken brain.

Will Lady Gaga Drop An Album In 2024?

Lady Gaga 64th Annual Grammy Awards 2022
Getty Image

Lady Gaga already has one significant release penciled in for 2024: She’s starring as Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker in the Todd Phillips-directed Joker: Folie à Deux due out this October. But surely she won’t let another year go by without adding to her legendary pop discography? Right?

Will Lady Gaga Drop An Album In 2024?

There are breadcrumbs. This week, Gaga posted twice to Instagram from the studio. The first shows her standing at the mic, and the second is a selfie captioned, “If anyone asks I’m at church.”

Obviously, a decorated musician spending time at the studio doesn’t exactly mean they’re recording new music. For whatever it’s worth, Universal Music Group and Haus Labs By Lady Gaga each reposted Gaga’s studio photos.

We don’t know whether Gaga is indeed working on a new album, which would be her first since 2020’s Chromatica. It also feels relevant to note that rumors swirled in November that Gaga was working with will.i.am after the two were spotted dining together.

Still, it’s best to hold out for confirmation from Gaga as to what Gaga is up to — like she did in this lengthy Instagram post from last June.

Here Is Stephen A. Smith’s Full, Scorched Earth Rant Against Jason Whitlock

Stephen A. Smith teased that the latest edition of his podcast would wade into waters he’s tried to avoid: His apparent long-standing beef with Jason Whitlock, the former ESPN columnist and personality who currently hosts a show for Blaze Media. As Smith claims, while he’s tried to avoid mentioning Whitlock directly for a decade or so, he’s felt compelled to say something in the aftermath of comments that Whitlock made questioning if Smith wrote his own autobiography.

Well, the podcast finally dropped, and Smith really decides to explore the space that this medium provides. The full video is at the top of this post, and Smith spends essentially the final 45 minutes of his pod on the subject.

“Jason Whitlock,” Smith said at the 14:29 mark. “I said that name. It’s not a name I’ve uttered. I normally don’t do that. But it’s necessary to do now. I’ve had enough of that fat bastard, that piece of sh*t, and I wanna make sure that before I go to break, I want anyone out there who watches me, anyone out there who knows me, anyone out there — no matter what you think of me — I want you to remember, I never talk about him. I never talk about my colleagues. I don’t do that. This is a first. But it’s necessary.”

Smith continued to tease this, saying he called his pastor asking for forgiveness “because he’s not gonna recognize the person he’s about to hear,” and gave his bosses a heads up about what he was about to do.

“My sisters, my nieces and nephews, my boys in the industry, everybody that I could reach out to in time has been warned,” Smith said. “It’s time for me to address this, I’m only gonna do it once. Because this bastard is worth less than a damn cockroach. He wanted my attention, he’s got it.”

Smith then went to break before coming back and discussing all of this, and well, it’s a lot. You can jump right to the 18:35 mark and go from there.

Jennifer Lopez Spoofs Her Four Weddings In Her Hilarious ‘Can’t Get Enough’ Video, And The Icing On Top Is That The Song Rules

Jenny From The Block has been around the block. Jennifer Lopez has seen (and done) it all throughout her dominant triple-threat career, and she’s faced as much (unfair) scrutiny over her personal life as any celebrity. In other words, nothing intimidates her anymore, especially not her own past.

On Wednesday, January 10, Lopez released “Can’t Get Enough,” the lead single from her forthcoming album This Is Me… Now, alongside a very funny video directed by Dave Meyers. It features four weddings, the star trolling her own four-marriage history, and it’s glorious. Alas, Ben Affleck does not make an appearance.

At the beginning, Lopez marries her first husband while someone whispers to his plus-one in the crowd, “I told you she couldn’t be alone.” He holds his hand out for money, having won a bet. Later, Lopez is dancing with Derek Hough, meant to play her second husband. All the while, the same wedding guests come through with snide comments like “Third time’s the charm?” and “Don’t catch [the bouquet]; it’s cursed!” By the end, Lopez is stone-faced while overhearing off-camera men complaining about her nonstop work ethic, as well as her “defensiveness, and constant criticism.” The screen reads, “To be continued…”

As per press release, the video is from her upcoming movie This Is Me…Now: A Love Story, directed by filmmaker Dave Meyers, which is due out on Amazon Prime Video on February 16 — the same release date for Lopez’s first album since 2014’s A.K.A. Of course, This Is Me… Now is a bookend to Lopez’s 2002 album, This Is Me… Then, released in the thick of Affleck and Lopez’s first go-round. (For anyone living under a rock, Affleck and Lopez reunited in 2021 and have been married since July 2022.)

“I think it might surprise some people,” Lopez told Variety of her single and video at the 2024 Golden Globes on Sunday, January 7. “It’s definitely kind of a meta story about the journey that it takes from getting from heartbreak back to love […] I am somewhat of an expert, you could say, in a real way. Not so much about marriage but on weddings. Again, I don’t take myself too seriously. I think that life is a crazy journey where you fall down and you get back up, and you keep trying and you never give up.”

As for This Is Me… Now, Lopez is “embracing the return to traditional physical albums,” as excerpted from the press release:

“Jennifer has created a bespoke collection of special & limited editions. This includes a deluxe CD with a stunning 40 page booklet featuring exclusive photos, plus 2 of 20 available polaroid photos. The standard vinyl comes in Jennifer’s favorite color of green, and there are also eight additional exclusive vinyls with a variety of covers and vinyl colors creating an exciting collectors series. JLovers will be treated to a signed vinyl that is available exclusively on onthejlo.com and features an emerald disc and exclusive cover. The full product offerings are available at the preorder link here.”

Female comedian’s joke about about a date with ‘guy’s guy’ goes right over the head of Fox News

Back in December of 2023, LA-based, progressive comedian Madi Hart made a joke that went viral in the most unlikely of places: right wing media.

Here’s what happened: Hart had just been on a date with someone she described as a “guy’s guy,” who incidentally paid for everything on said date. In a TikTok clip, Hart joked that because of that, she joked “I felt the feminism leaving my body,” based on a long running conservative meme.

Apparently conservatives on Twitter missed the memo that Hart wasn’t actually serious about abandoning her feminist values. Cue a comedy of errors way more hilarious than the initial joke itself.

As Hart explained in a follow-up video, her original TikTok soon became the subject of analyzation on the “Matt Walsh Show,” where the staunch right-wing host noted that if Hart was willing to give up feminism in order to have things paid for, she needed to “be willing to play her part” in being a “feminine women that a masculine man desires.”

female comedian fox news, fox news

But that was just the beginning. Pretty soon Hart was featured on Republican think pieces that labeled her as ‘progressive ‘artsy’ woman” and “smitten lib chick” who dated one “guy’s guy” and was now “ready to swear off feminism and dating liberals,” marking it as a victory to the patriarchy. Yes, really.

Hart then admitted that the real insult in all this was being called a “self-proclaimed comedian” several times.

“I make money from this! I’m a proclaimed comedian!” she quipped.

Of course, it didn’t stop there. There were also countless tweets of this nature:

And then, to top things off, Hart’s video made it to Fox News. How did she find this out? Her estranged Republican father called to congratulate her.

Giggling and asking “why is this on national news?” Hart played the segment where host Jesse Waters shared the clip. She explained that apparently a “dating analyst” was brought on to discuss whether masculinity was, in fact, “dead or not.”

But wait, there’s one more thing. Hart concluded her video by sharing, “In my TikTok, I say that I’m bisexual and most of my extended family did not know that I was bisexual. They all saw the clip because they all watch Fox News every night. So that is also how I came out to my entire extended family. Via Fox News.”

“Okay but coming out on national news is actually so iconic,” one person reassured in the comments.

Watch the full video below. And kudos to Hart for sharing all this ridiculousness while wearing a shirt of herself on Fox News. Please sell those at shows.

@madihart_soccer Fox News is so UNSERIOUS 😭 #storytime #grwm #single #situationship #foxnews #bisexual #comingout #relationshipstorytime ♬ original sound – Madi Hart

In an interview with Buzzfeed, Hart argued that the driving factor behind this peak comedy situation “comes down to an oversimplified, and overly-individualistic, perception of what feminism even is,” adding, “who buys who a drink has literally nothing to do with feminism. But if conservatives expanded their idea of what feminism is, they would have to expand their idea of who the patriarchy harms, and they’re not ready for that conversation.”

Maybe not. But in the meantime, who says we can’t have a good laugh?

Following Hart on TikTok and Instagram could help with that. Just remember, she’s probably joking!

Greta Gerwig Is Cool With Jo Koy’s Golden Globes Joke About ‘Barbie’

Barbie Ken Margot Robbie Ryan Gosling Simu Liu
Warner Bros

For the second year in a row, the Golden Globes were back, after a little hiatus from the airwaves in 2022 over all their, shall we say, issues. By now things are more or less back to normal, which is to say Sunday night’s show was kind of a mess. Though Taylor Swift and Meghan Markle dominated the headlines, so did its choice of host: comic and Easter Sunday star Jo Koy, who delivered an opening monologue that was, to put it mildly, not well-received. But was Koy really that bad? One of his joke targets doesn’t think so.

Per Deadline, Greta Gerwig recently went on BBC Radio 4, where she was asked about Koy’s bit about her most recent directorial work, which you may have heard about. During his opener, the comic cracked that Oppenheimer, which took home Best Motion Picture — Drama, “is based on a 721-page Pulitzer Prize-winning book about the Manhattan Project, and Barbie is on a plastic doll with big boobies.”

Did that leave Gerwig offended? Pshaw.

“Well, he’s not wrong,” she replied. “She’s the first doll that was mass produced with breasts, so he was right on. And you know, I think that so much of the project of the movie was unlikely because it is about a plastic doll… Barbie by her very construction has no character, no story, she’s there to be projected upon.”

It’s a thoughtful response to what was a silly joke. And it’s not like the movie has been treated like some joke. On top of making gobs of cash money, it has an 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, with many of the reviews praising its smarts, particularly that moving, Meryl Streep-approved America Ferrera speech. Perhaps we don’t have to remind you that it’s the latest from the director of Lady Bird and the 2019 Little Women, and it was cowritten by the maker of Greenberg, which co-starred [drum roll] Gerwig.

At this year’s Globes, Barbie was nominated for nine trophies, including Best Motion Picture — Musical of Comedy. It won two: one for the Billie Eilish song “What Was I Made For?” and another for the odd Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

A New ‘Star Trek’ Movie Is Finally In The Works, But It Won’t Be About The Chris Pine-Led Crew

Star Trek Beyond
Paramount

Star Trek may be thriving on TV, but whatever happened to the franchise’s movie wing? It’s been a good while since their last film, namely Star Trek Beyond, from all the way back in 2016. Donald Trump wasn’t even elected yet, to show you how long ago that was. There’s been talk of getting the old, Chris Pine-led gang back together, but that’s yet to get off the ground. (There was also that “gangster” one Quentin Tarantino was going to make, but that was too pure for this world.) Now, finally, a new Trek film is in the offing, though Captain Kirk and company won’t be in it.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount has announced a kind of prequel film, set decades before the events of the J.J. Abrams-helmed 2009 revival, which brought the series back to the big screen for the first time since 2002’s woebegone Star Trek: Nemesis, about the Next Generation cadre. The film will be helmed by Toby Haynes, who directed episodes of the gritty Disney show Andor.

This doesn’t mean moviegoers won’t ever see the Pine crew on the big screen. Paramount still still wants to bring the likes of Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, and Simon Pegg back for one last hurrah. That project was announced last March, though it seemed a bit premature, with other cast members admitting they hadn’t even been contacted about it, to see if they were even available/willing to do it.

In the meantime, there are so, so many of the deathless franchise’s TV shows on Paramount+ that Trekkies ought never to feel restless.

A young journalist is using social media to highlight a hidden struggle of war for women

Many citizens of western countries have no experience living in a war zone and the toll it takes on a person’s overall wellbeing. Usually to protect the civilian population, other countries open their borders to allow those vulnerable inside so their needs can be met without the constant threat of harm. But not every population has the option to leave their war torn country for safety with the comfort of knowing they’ll be able to return when it’s safe.

For some people, they have to stay where they are and make do with what’s available. This means dealing with situations that people who are donating to assist innocent civilians may not realize things that are needed outside of food, water and baby formula.

Bisan Owda, 25, is a journalist in Gaza who has made it her mission to strip the shame away from an issue unique to women trapped in the middle of a war.

In a now expired Instagram story, Owda explained that when the war between Israel and Hamas started, women took birth control pills to delay their menstrual cycles. The hope was to avoid their periods until the war was over as it would be an inconvenience while displaced from their homes. Except, this conflict has lasted longer than most anticipated, which means women and girls have found themself in an unsanitary predicament unique to them.

“The population of Gaza strip is 2.2 million people, 49 percent of them are women and women in Gaza do not have access to hygiene water, to personal hygiene supplies, to menstrual supplies, to sanitary pads,” Owda says in a video uploaded to Instagram in early December. “They don’t have access to all these things and women now are simply exposed to psychological and physical health risks because there’s no products to use during their periods. Women are shy to tell you this but they don’t have to be shy actually.”

This is a reality that many people don’t think about, including the organizations sending aid to the area as Owda points out in her video, it seems to be missing from the few aid trucks that are allowed into Gaza. The conditions are overcrowded and there are very few functioning bathrooms that these women have access to. But it’s not just the women who are experiencing their monthly menstrual cycles that are suffering, it’s women who have just given birth as well.

Postpartum women are instructed to keep good hygiene by changing their sanitary pad 4 or more times a day, using a squirt bottle after using the bathroom, and soak in a bath to aid with wound cleaning. Women who have just given birth are at a much higher risk for infection of their uterus if they contract common vaginal infections that can be the result of a lack of sanitary items.

“We’re suffering from being hungry, from being thirsty, from being bombed. We’re suffering from being displaced. Now we are suffering also because there are no pads. It’s just a new suffering,” Owda said.

When Owda interviewed Nour, a young woman living in Gaza about the lack of menstrual products, Nour explains, “many young women are grappling with this challenge, resorting to alternatives such as tissues or scraps of cloth, all of which are unhygienic. The cloth requires regular washing, cleaning and changing.”

A local doctor reveals to Owda, “each day we encounter numerous instances of fever, directly linked to vaginal yeast infections arising from inadequate hygiene and the absence of feminine hygiene products. Sanitary pads can’t be found anywhere.”

The situation is dire and medical doctors in the region are expressing the danger that comes with lack of access to this critical sanitary supply.

“It’s extremely dangerous because we’re talking about hygiene. When a woman is in good health, maintains cleanliness, and has access to fundamental necessities, it significantly contributes to the baby’s well-being. Cleanliness is crucial for ensuring the health of both mother and baby. The lack of feminine hygiene products is not only a matter of health but also brings about a sense of humiliation,” another doctor explains to Owda.

After sharing about the struggles women are facing in Gaza, Egyptian Cure Bank, a hospital in Egypt has begun accepting donations to send medical supplies to Gaza, which include feminine hygiene products. Even though people are in imminent danger, they’re still people so women will continue to need sanitary pads and babies will continue to need diapers. Hopefully more shipments of these imperative supplies will make it to the people that need it most because all people that have periods deserve dignity while managing it.

Comedian cleverly tricks an online troll into coming to his show and exposes him live

“Comedians Giving Lectures” is a UK show that features funny people competing against each other to see who can give the best TED-style talk. One of the most memorable was by 32-year-old comedian Rhys James, who lectured about online stalking and his speech ended with a twist. He outed a surprised audience member as one of his online trolls.

The lecture opens with a bit on how just about everyone does a bit of social media stalking, whether it’s old-school friends or former love interests. But then he asks the big question: When do we know we’ve gone too far? Is it scrolling through hundreds of posts on someone’s page or accidentally liking a photo someone posted years ago?

Rhys then admitted that he stalks just like everyone else but prefers strangers.

“You may not want to be stalked, but you shouldn’t feel guilty for stalking. We all do it. You know what matters is who you stalk,” Rhys said in his lecture. I’m sure everyone in this room at some point has stalked an ex and their new partner at some point. Maybe a colleague. Maybe an old-school friend, but that’s not the title of this lecture. I stalk strangers online. Strangers, people I’ve never even met.”

As a comedian, Rhys has a different relationship with strangers than most. He has to deal with their opinions constantly on social media. So, why not give them a taste of their own medicine?

At the end of his lecture, Rhys points out an audience member and lets them know that they are the victim of his most recent foray into stalking. The great part is how the troll slowly realizes they’re the reason for the entire lecture.

At about 4 minutes into the clip, he singles out “Dean” in the audience, who at first nods with surprise. He then takes it a step further, pointing out where Dean went to school and even his home address. You know, the kinds of things an online stalker seeks out. Dean nods with an uncomfortable smile before Rhys deadpans, “I know who you fu**ing are, mate.”

At that point, Dean literally covers his mouth in shock but still has a laugh along with the audience at his own expense.

Rhys then goes on to highlight a mean tweet Dean once sent in his direction back in 2016. “You bully, Dean!” Rhys says jokingly. It was clearly all done in good fun and even Dean is clapping by the end. But Rhys did a great job of using his elaborate set up to bring attention to the real issue of online stalking and bullying. It’s a master stroke that every parent should think about showing to their kids and more than a few adults themselves should take a look at.
