The ‘College Gameday’ Crew Lost It Over Rece Davis Saying ‘Let A Naysayer Know’ Prior To The Rose Bowl

college gameday
ESPN

The final year of the 4-team College Football Playoff produced the best day of semifinal action in the Playoff’s history, as Michigan beat Alabama in an overtime thriller in the Rose Bowl and Washington held on to beat Texas in a tense shootout in the Sugar Bowl.

However, for everything that happened in a pair of instant classic Playoff games, the viral moment of New Year’s Day belonged to the College Gameday crew. As Rece Davis was setting up a story on Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, he began to explain that Milroe often wears clothing with his own slogan “L.A.N.K” on it that’s a message to the likes of Bill O’Brien — who once told him to change positions. Davis then began to explain what that acronym stands for, saying it means “Let A Naysayer Know,” which was not what Pat McAfee and the rest of the guys on set thought.

It’s really an all-time moment on the show, with Desmond Howard saying “you almost lost me and Joey” followed by Galloway saying “it was about to go down” as everyone thought for a moment, Rece Davis was about to say the N-word on national television. The entire crew is doubled over in hysterics, while Davis does an incredible job playing it straight, ever the professional, doubling down on “let a naysayer know.” McAfee’s inability to keep his own internal monologue to himself sparked the incredible moment, as Howard and Galloway were just gonna let it go and probably have a laugh to themselves during a commercial break, and the next 24 hours was filled with an awful lot of “naysayer” memes on Twitter.

As Bomani Jones noted, it’s maybe the funniest sports TV moment not to involve the Inside the NBA crew, as this is something you’d expect to have happen during an Ernie Johnson read with Chuck, Shaq, and Kenny losing it. Instead it was the Gameday crew absolutely losing it in the most storied venue in the sport on a Monday afternoon (which I think makes it even funnier).

‘Ted’ Season 1 On Peacock: Everything To Know Including The Release Date, Cast, Trailer & More Info

Ted Season 1
Peacock

Seth MacFarlane is back with an all-new series that brings back his hilarious performance as Ted, a pot-smoking, hornball teddy bear who just wants to goof off with John, the best bud that brought him to life with a childhood wish.

Set to arrive on Peacock later this month, here’s everything with know about Ted Season 1:

Plot

While the Ted films tackled the lovable and debaucherous bear’s modern-day relationship with a grown-up John Bennett, Ted the series goes back to a (slightly) more innocent time when John is navigating the ins and outs of teen life. High school is difficult enough as it is, but throw in the fact that his best friend is a talking teddy bear, and John has a rough road ahead of him even if Ted is anything but sugary sweet.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In this comedic prequel event series to the Ted films, it’s 1993, and Ted the bear’s (Seth MacFarlane) moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach) and cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham). Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship.

Cast

Seth MacFarlane reprises his role as Ted, but thanks to the Peacock series taking place in the early ’90s, the characters from the film are played by younger actors starting with Mark Walhberg’s John Bennett who’s now played by Max Burkholder. His parents are now played by MacFarlane’s The Orville co-star Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach with Giorgia Whigham, Ara Hollyday, and Liz Richman rounding out the cast as John’s high school classmates.

Release Date

Ted Season 1 premieres January 11 on Peacock. All seven episodes will be available for streaming, so you can binge the whole season right out of the gate.

Trailer

Here’s the official trailer:

Ted Season 1 starts streaming January 11 on Peacock.

Andrew Scott Recalled Stopping His ‘Hamlet’ Performance After An Audience Member Took Out A Laptop

It’s one thing to take your phone out at a movie theater, where it’s rude but ultimately forgiven (most of the time). It’s another thing to take out your phone at a theatrical production, where it’s just rude. It’s another another thing to take the time to pack up your laptop, lug it to the theater, and take it out during an already tense moment in Hamlet. But against all odds, that thing did happen.

All Of Us Strangers star and Hot Priest icon Andrew Scott was a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast when he recalled a time when a playgoer whipped out a laptop while attending Hamlet. Scott portrayed the iconic lead in the play, which ran at the Almeida Theatre in 2017. It attracted some…. disruptive people.

“When I was playing Hamlet, a guy took out his laptop — not his phone, his laptop — while I was in the middle of ‘to be or not to f***ing be’,” Scott said. “I was pausing and [the stage team] were like, ‘Get on with it’ and I was like, ‘There’s no way’,” he explained. Scott then said the audience member came to his senses after a woman nudged him. He joked, “It was my agent.”

Let’s give this computer user the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he was getting ready to type up a glowing review of Hamlet and got so excited he needed to post it mid-show. Maybe he was so inspired, he needed to take some notes about being and not being. Or maybe he wanted to be prepared and order his dinner ahead of time so it would be ready after the show. You never know! He was just being proactive.

After New Year’s Eve, Cardi B revealed that she and Offset, from whom she recently separated, got physical on NYE, saying during a live broadcast, “Was I clubbing with my baby father yesterday? Yes. Did I got dicked down yesterday? Absolutely, baby. Y’all can use your roles on New Year’s Eve; I need some dick on New Year’s Eve. I feel like we was vibing yesterday, we had a good time. We was Henny’d down. We was both in the same club and it was just really awkward. Like, I’m in my section, he’s in his section. It’s like, ‘Man, just f*ckin’ come over here, let’s just chill, we having a good time.’”

So, that begs the question:

Is Cardi B still married to Offset?

Legally, it looks like it, yes. No reports of any divorce paperwork being filed appear to have surfaced, so unless they’ve managed to keep divorce proceedings under the radar, the two appear to still be legally married.

During the aforementioned broadcast, Cardi appeared to not close the door on a reconciliation, saying, “But I feel at the point of where we at in our relationship, we’ve been together for seven years, we’ve been married for seven years. I don’t consider that we’re back together because the answer of getting back together is not a good night at the club and f*cking the night long. We need to work on our sh*t, we need to work on our communication. There’s things that he gotta work on, there’s things that I gotta work on. And I feel like until we work that out, I don’t feel like we’re back together.”

Is There Going To Be A Vanderpump Rules Season 11?

There is going to be a Season 11. Given the drama that led to Vanderpump Rules receiving its first Emmy nomination for Season 10, the renewal was inevitable. Bravo officially announced the season’s premiere date back in December.

When Does Vanderpump Rules Season 11 Come Out?

Vanderpump Rules will kick off Season 11 on January 30.

Vanderpump Rules Season 11 Cast: Who Is In It?

As Season 10 of the show ended with an explosive cheating scandal, there were questions about who would be returning. Right now, Rachel (“Raquel”) Leviss did not come back for Season 11. The current main cast for the upcoming season includes Ariana Madix, Lala Kent, James Kennedy, Tom Schwartz, Katie Maloney, Scheana Shay, Tom Sandoval, and of course, Lisa Vanderpump. James’ girlfriend, Ally Lewber, and Scheana’s husband, Brock Davies, will be appearing, too.

The plot of Season 11 will center around the aftermath of “Scandoval” — where Tom Sandoval had cheated on Ariana Madix with Rachel Leviss. Now, the exes will be dealing with navigating their separation, which might cause other tensions in the group. Other exes, Tom Schwartz and Katie Maloney, will find themselves in a love triangle. Finally, Scheana and Brock will be dealing with some marital troubles.

Kid Cudi Ripped A Critic Who Called His ‘SNL’ Dress An ‘Illuminati Humiliation Ritual’

kid cudi

In addition to pushing the boundaries of hip-hop, Kid Cudi has long held a reputation for also pushing those of fashion. He solidified his adventurous sense of style in 2021, when he performed on Saturday Night Live wearing a white floral dress by Off-White, the brand founded by his friend Virgil Abloh, in a tribute to Kurt Cobain, who’d similarly done so in the early ’90s. While the move received praise from members of the cast, Cudi knew he’d receive backlash for it, but wasn’t worried.

He wasn’t wrong, either; even today, nearly three years later, he’s receiving criticism for the iconic moment — but he isn’t taking it lying down. When a user on Twitter posted a video of the performance and called it an “Illuminati humiliation ritual” (yes, they had a blue check, funny how that works now), Cudi lit into them for making such an ignorant, frankly misogynistic and homophobic statement.

“Its the start of a new year and I got time for muthaf*ckas like u today,” he wrote. “This post is mad f*ckin lame of u and sad. A black man cant express himself and be confident AND successful with out it being some conspiracy. My success was givin to me by God with the help of my many angels. All u people in the commenfs that have been tweetin me all day about this sh*t can gargle on my mayo. This moment was a proud moment for me, a shinin moment for all people who express themselves in their art. I felt free and alive, it inspired people and nothing u stupid simple asses say can take that away from me.”

There’s plenty of writing about how gender norms and fashion have changed — even in recent years. If there’s any consolation for Cudi, it’s that he’s not alone. Rap fans have criticized Lil Nas X, Lil Uzi Vert, and Young Thug for wearing “women’s clothes” but that doesn’t seem to be stopping them from expressing themselves as they see fit.

Lauren Boebert Is Now Attempting To Blame Ryan Reynolds (?) For Her Decision To Swap Districts And Try To Save Her Own Butt

Lauren-Boebert-Ryan-Reynolds.jpg
Getty Image

Lauren Boebert must have seen the rootin’ tootin’ writing on the wall. Towards the end of 2023, the far-right congresswoman announced that she would be switching Colorado districts during her reelection bid, in which Democrat Adam Frisch most recently only lost by 546 votes in a red-leaning district. Given that Boebert’s already incendiary aura has been heightened even more by her Beetlejuice escapades (which even caused Howard Stern to have mixed feelings), Boebert likely knows that some Republicans are disappointed enough to stay home when the polls open, which could ultimately cost the GOP a precious House seat.

Additionally, Boebert is worried about self-preservation, and she believes that the more solidly Republican fourth district would somehow be more receptive to her reelection. She has already railed about the so-called “dark money” that forced her to make the switch following after “[a] lot of prayer, a lot of tough conversations and a lot of perspective.” Now, the former Shooters Grill owner has complained to Steve Bannon on his War Room podcast. Via The Guardian, she is blaming high-profile Democratic donors (rather than her public groping debacle) for this outcome:

“We need a strong voice there, and we have to shut down the Hollywood elites who are trying to buy my current seat,” Boebert said to Bannon, the former Donald Trump White House adviser who is appealing a prison sentence given to him for his refusal to cooperate with the US House committee that investigated the January 6 US Capitol attack.

“It’s coming from Hollywood when you have Barbra Streisand coming in and donating to the Democrat, when you have Ryan Reynolds coming in and donating to the Democrat.”

An attempt to blame Barbra Streisand is nothing new from the GOP, but seeing the star of Deadpool pulled into the discussion is more unexpected. How has Ryan Reynolds responded to this tantrum? Thus far, he has not answered at all. However, Adam Frisch has certainly been enjoying said donations, and The Daily Beast has been keeping an eye out for how his tally has long since surpassed Boebert’s collections for the 2024 election. Clearly, she is very worried about her chances ahead of the 2024 elections.

The ‘True Detective: Night Country’ Reviews Are Here For Jodie Foster And Kali Reis As The Best Pairing Since McConaughey and Harrelson

True Detective Season 4 Jodie Foster
HBO

After four years, True Detective has returned for a fourth season that jettisons original creator Nic Pizzolatto and replaces him with showrunner Issa López, who’s already racking up rave reviews for her first crack at the anthology series.

Titled True Detective: Night Country, the new season follows Jodie Foster and Kali Reis as they navigate a murder mystery in Alaska. According to early reviews, the two leads are easily the best component of the new season that is almost unanimously being viewed as a worthy successor to the inaugural True Detective season starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

You can see what the critics are saying below:

Alan Sepinwall, Rolling Stone:

Night Country injects a whole lot of female energy both onscreen — in the form of Foster and co-star Kali Reis, as Danvers’ reluctant partner Evangeline Navarro — and off, into a series that in the past wasn’t exactly celebrated for its use of women. The end result is a lean, mean, six-episode season that retains most of what was great under Pizzolatto, while leaving behind the more self-indulgent or outright clumsy parts of those years.

Daniel Fienberg, The Hollywood Reporter:

Night Country is, in some ways, a throwback to the first season, bringing back the uncomfortable intersection of true crime narrative and supernatural undertones. The season also includes direct nods to imagery and dialogue from the first season — generally unnecessary citations that feel like a sop to the Pizzolatto-worshipping corner of the fandom, since otherwise Night Country is at odds with the previous seasons in terms of theme and overall perspective. Night Country pushes aside Pizzolatto’s trademark masculine brooding for a female-forward story that personalizes and internalizes the anthology’s typically convoluted plotting in a way that’s refreshing and frequently potent.

Bob Strauss, The Wrap:

What’s cool about this icy season is pretty hot, though. Leads Jodie Foster and Kali Reis top that list, ably carrying an investigation past spooky red herrings and gratuitous melodrama. The Hollywood veteran plays Ennis police chief Liz Danvers, a no-nonsense pro (“This is a crime scene, I want you to pretend you know what you’re doing!” she barks at underlings clowning around a grisly mound of frozen corpses) assigned to this remote outpost for reasons other than the professed one, her skill at dealing with the criminal psychology effect of monthslong winter nights. Pro boxer and “Catch the Fair One” star Reis is Detective Evangeline Navarro, an Afghan War vet who came to Alaska to reconnect with the Iñupiaq half of her heritage.

Carly Lane, Collider:

Previous seasons of True Detective have been anchored on the success of their actors, and Night Country continues that trend. It’s impossible to look at Ennis police chief Elizabeth Danvers and not see Foster, who feels simultaneously meant to play this character and perfectly suited for such a role at this stage in her career. In lesser hands, Liz could run the risk of becoming a stereotype — a hardened woman who eschews emotional connection for convenient physical flings (many of them with already-married men, earning the ire of their wives) and successfully damages most of her other relationships. But Liz is also a shrewd investigator, even if she’s been relegated to a small, somewhat sleepy Alaskan town by her superior.

Meghan O’Keefe, Decider:

All six episodes of True Detective: Night Country are written (or co-written) and directed by Issa López. Even though she’s a super accomplished writer and director in her native Mexico, López’s work might come as a revelation to English-speaking American viewers. López has not only crafted scripts that effortlessly entangle the magical and the mundane, but she’s able to deftly wrap up the show’s big mysteries, leaving only the most intentional of loose ends. As a director, she never seems hampered by setting the story during non-stop night. In fact, she finds endlessly creative ways to use the stark brightness of a lantern or the glow of twinkle lights to frame her actors clearly.

Caryn James, BBC:

With eerie suspense, vibrant characters and a layer of the supernatural, the series’ creator and director, Issa López, gives Night Country a singular feeling, and those opening credits suggest how: this show gets really creepy, in a good way. The original season of True Detective (2014), with Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, set high expectations. After two much weaker follow-ups, this fourth season finally lives up to the exhilarating promise of the first.

True Detective: Night Country premieres January 4 on HBO.

This Scary Math From A Classic ‘The Simpsons’ Episode Will Make You Feel Very Old

simpsons nin
20th Television Animation

Ready for some scary math? Due to the never-changing ages of the characters on The Simpsons, late 30s Homer and Marge are elder millennials, Bart and Lisa are Generation Alpha, and Abraham Simpson, not Principal Skinner (or Armin Tamzarian for the purists), would have fought in the Vietnam War.

Here’s some more scary Simpsons math, courtesy of X user @matttomic: “In this 1996 Simpsons episode, Homer asks for the latest from Bread (“Lost Without Your Love”, 1977) and is sent to Oldies. If this were set in 2023, Homer would be asking for Arcade Fire’s Funeral or Kanye’s College Dropout (2004).” If you move it to 2024, the albums become Illinois by Sufjan Stevens and Kanye’s Late Registration.

@matttomic added, “Happy new year! Death comes for us all.”

The episode being referred to is season 7’s “Homerpalooza,” where Homer is shocked to learn that rock music didn’t, in fact, attain perfection in 1974. “I used to be with it, until they changed what it was,” Abraham warns his son in one of the most relatable quotes in the show’s history. “Now what I am with isn’t it and what is it seems weird and scary to me. It’ll happen to you!”

It already has. Now, if you don’t mind, I’m going to listen to Demon Days by Gorillaz and watch Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, which was the style at the time.
