Metro Boomin Had A ‘Great’ 2023, But Has Plans To Release Three Albums In 2024

Metro Boomin has big plans for the year, despite having one of his best year’s professionally in 2023. After releasing his second studio album Heroes & Villains in December 2022, he stampeded into 2023 with a parade of releases including the Spider-Verse soundtrack, Young Thug’s album Business Is Business, and even a symphony orchestra. But even with all these accomplishments in his rearview, he looks to remain as busy as ever in 2024, with not just one but three new albums on the way — and maybe even more.

After boasting “2023 was great but just watch what I do 2024” on Twitter, a fan asked how many albums he’ll be dropping in 2024. “3 at the very least,” he replied. And although he didn’t go into detail, hints he shared throughout last year gave us some clue what those albums could be.

Shortly after the release of Heroes & Villains, ASAP Rocky joked that his next album, Don’t Be Dumb, would have so much input from Metro that it should be called Flacko Boomin. Then, a month later, Future suggested that his joint album with Metro would be the “album of the year” — although there’s still no sign of it, almost a full year later. JID also confirmed he and Metro have a joint project in the works, and just before the holidays, Metro said he and Zaytoven are working on a few ideas for a potential project, either with an artist or a compilation of artists.

ESPN Apologized For Showing A Woman Flashing Her Boob On Bourbon Street During The Sugar Bowl

espn camera

The Sugar Bowl between Washington and Texas was an absolutely wild nightcap to the craziest and best College Football Playoff semifinal day since its inception in 2014. Washington held on for a 37-31 win despite some clock management blunders and Texas marching inside the 20 on its final drive of the game, getting a throw into the end zone for the win that got broken up.

That, coupled with an overtime thriller in the Rose Bowl between Michigan and Alabama that saw the Wolverines come out on top thanks to a fourth down stop, made for quite a good night for ESPN, as they will almost assuredly pull in some of the best ratings of the CFP era thanks to finally getting a pair of entertaining and competitive semifinals. However, the downside to great ratings is it means more eyeballs are on you when you make a mistake, and ESPN did not think through its live shot planning during the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

During a return from commercial, ESPN had a cameraman wandering down Bourbon Street to capture the live scene in the city. Apparently ESPN’s production team forgot what goes on down on Bourbon Street and accidentally broadcast to millions of people a woman pulling her top down to show her boob for some beads.

That clip immediately went viral (and can be found here, but obviously is NSFW) and forced ESPN to issue an apology on Tuesday.

“We regret that this happened and apologize that the video aired in the telecast,” ESPN’s Bill Hofheimer said in a statement to The Associated Press.

What makes the whole thing really wild is that ESPN decided it needed that to be a fully live clip and not something prerecorded so they could, I don’t know, check to make sure they weren’t going to show someone’s tittie on national TV. You can do a live shot during the Rose Bowl of the sunset and San Gabriel mountains without any issue, but down in New Orleans it might be best to go shoot some B-roll ahead of time and do a little quality control to make sure you’re not gonna get yourself an FCC fine.

Predicting The 2024 NBA All-Stars And Snubs

maxey towns shai

As the calendar turns to 2024 we find ourselves just six weeks away from the All-Star Game in Indianapolis, and there is a crowded race for the East and West squads this year, meaning we are likely going to see plenty of fan bases upset by snubs.

With just 24 total roster spots (plus possible injury replacements) and a set number of spots for guards (4) and frontcourt players (6) plus a pair of wild card spots, there figure to be a lot of players that have legitimate All-Star arguments that get squeezed in each conference — this is where I once again beg the league to expand All-Star rosters to 15, putting them in line with the actual rosters NBA teams have. With a month left for players to make their All-Star case to fans, players, media, and coaches, I figured it was a good time to take a look at the players battling for All-Star roster spots and where the likely “snubs” will come from.

With the way the starter vote works (with 50 percent coming from fans, 25 percent from players, and 25 percent from media), there are rarely any major surprises with the 10 starting spots — that’s not to say there’s never controversy, but they’re almost always deserving of an All-Star nod. It’s the coach votes for the reserves that are always the most fascinating to me, as they tend to place a high value on playing for a winning team (especially when picking between players with similar profiles), which we can use to try to predict who will and won’t make it onto the roster this year. With the talent level of the league as high as it’s ever been, there are going to be some really tough calls for the coaches that will leave some deserving players out of the festivities in Indy.

EAST GUARDS

In: Tyrese Maxey*, Damian Lillard*, Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Haliburton, Trae Young

I think this is the toughest group to figure out who will be the two starters. If I were to guess, Maxey and Lillard will get the nod given their profile and the success of their two teams. Brunson will certainly have a shot at starting if Knicks fans vote in droves, but he’ll likely need to out-point Lillard in media/player voting to have a shot. Haliburton feels like a lock for a reserve spot given he’s the Pacers only real candidate for a hometown All-Star, is leading the NBA in assists, and is scoring at a crazy efficient rate. Young will have to be a coaches Wild Card pick because he has historically done poorly in the starters voting (especially with his fellow players), but his stats (28.3 points and 11.3 assists per game) are so gaudy I think he’ll get the nod this year even with Atlanta’s struggles — and if he doesn’t, you can guarantee some chatter this summer about him wanting to be in a bigger market.

Snubs: Donovan Mitchell, Derrick White

Mitchell would need both Wild Card spots to go to guards to get in, and I don’t think that happens. I think Cleveland underwhelming this year to expectations will hurt him, and it likely comes down to him vs. Young for the last guard spot and even with Atlanta being pretty bad this year, Young’s stats are just absurd. Barring a big January for the Cavs that sees them climb the standings, they might go All-Starless this year and that will likely only accelerate the rumblings around Mitchell’s future there if he misses out on an All-Star pick.

There’s a vocal movement for Derrick White to be an All-Star, but it’s going to be really hard for him to make it given the performance of the players listed above and I don’t even think we get six guards on the roster. Beyond that, the Celtics are going to have at least two All-Stars with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown and the strongest case for a third probably belongs to Kristaps Porzingis. We haven’t seen a team get four All-Stars since the 2014-15 Atlanta Hawks who won every game in January and were a mile in front of the rest of the East, leading to Jeff Teague and Kyle Korver getting spots based off team success. This Boston team has been great, but unless they put real daylight between themselves and the Sixers and Bucks, it’s really hard to see them getting four All-Stars even with White having a terrific season.

EAST FRONTCOURT

In: Joel Embiid*, Giannis Antetokounmpo*, Jayson Tatum*, Jaylen Brown, Paolo Banchero, Bam Adebayo, Scottie Barnes

The starters for East froncourt are pretty easy to come up with. Embiid, Giannis, and Tatum all have MVP cases for the three best teams in the conference and should cruise to starting spots. From there, though, it gets pretty tricky. Brown feels like a lock given the Celtics’ success. I also think the Magic are going to get an All-Star this year and right now Paolo feels like he’ll get the nod over Franz Wagner, but I think those two are effectively battling it out for the Orlando spot over the next month (provided they’re still solidly in the top-6 in the East). From there it gets tricky. Miami’s been on a hot streak of late so, at this moment, I think they’ll get someone in the game. That puts it between Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler, and as long as Adebayo doesn’t miss any more time I think he would get the nod over Butler. For one, Butler has historically not cared in the slightest about playing in the All-Star Game, so I think he’d be fine with it. Beyond that, Adebayo has a better statistical profile to go along with his reputation as one of the best defenders in the league. From there, I feel like Scottie Barnes’ breakout year is likely going to earn him a nod, and he may benefit from being listed as a frontcourt player rather than a guard (where he’s been playing). That said, if the Raptors continue to bottom out, he might not get the votes.

Snubs: Jimmy Butler, Julius Randle, Franz Wagner, Kristaps Porzingis

Butler hasn’t played that much more than Adebayo (or Porzingis), and he doesn’t have the same statistical impact of Bam this season, meaning I think his teammate is more likely to get the nod. That Randle is back in the mix for an All-Star spot after the first couple weeks he had is impressive, but I think he’ll need the Knicks to go on a serious run in January to have a shot. If they’re still just hanging around .500, I doubt the coaches will feel like they need to give them multiple All-Stars and Brunson will be the pick for New York. Wagner, as mentioned, is neck-and-neck with Banchero for the Magic’s spot that I believe exists as of now. He certainly has a case to even be ahead of the Randle-Porzingis-Butler-Adebayo group, but Orlando probably needed to stay in the top-3 range to have a chance at two All-Stars this year. Porzingis, meanwhile, might split votes with Derrick White for a third Celtics spot with coaches, needs to log more games played, and would need Boston to create some space for the 1-seed over other two All-Star teams in the Bucks and Sixers.

WEST GUARDS

In: Stephen Curry*, Luka Doncic*, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Anthony Edwards, De’Aaron Fox

Hoo boy, the West guard race is brutal. I think SGA and Doncic deserve the starting spots, but Curry probably gets in over SGA off the fan vote. In any case, those three should be locks, as is Anthony Edwards given the Timberwolves position atop the conference. From there, De’Aaron Fox is averaging 30 per game on crazy efficiency and has the Kings right back in the mix for a top-4 spot in the West. I think he should also be a pretty easy choice for a Wild Card, but that leaves a number of big names off the board.

Snubs: Devin Booker, Desmond Bane, Jamal Murray

After Fox it gets really tricky and comes down to how the Wild Card picks get sorted out. Devin Booker’s had an unbelievably productive year but the Suns have been mediocre and he’d need a Wild Card pick over a frontcourt guy. Right now I don’t know if he’ll get that, and it would help him out a lot if the Suns could go on a sustained run of success and pull back with the Clippers. The Grizzlies slow start will likely keep Bane off the roster, barring a crazy month of January in Memphis (which, again, he’d have to vault Booker to get in the mix for a Wild Card). The Nuggets being simply “very good” instead of dominant means it’s going to be hard for Murray to get the All-Star spot I thought he was likely going to get off of his Finals run a year ago. He’s only played 20 games this year and is averaging under 20 points per game, making it very difficult to put him in above any of the other top guards in the West (not to mention frontcourt guys).

WEST FRONTCOURT

In: LeBron James*, Nikola Jokic*, Kevin Durant*, Karl-Anthony Towns, Anthony Davis, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George

Like in the East, the frontcourt starters aren’t hard to figure out in the West. LeBron and KD are always at the top of fan voting and are assuredly going to be in the top 5 for players and media too, meaning they’re in. Nikola Jokic is once again putting up preposterous numbers on a top-3 team and is maybe the MVP favorite again. He’s in. From there, the Wolves are going to get two guys and Towns will get the nod over Gobert. Davis, Leonard, and George have all not only played to their usual All-Star standard, but have all played more games than usual (Kawhi’s missed a little time recently with a hip issue but is back now). The Lakers getting two All-Stars will, assuredly, lead to some thinkpieces, but it’s really hard to see how Davis misses out if he’s still healthy given his statistical profile and having played 32 games already. The Clippers have been on a tear of late and George and Leonard have both been spectacular this year. If they keep winning at this rate, it’s hard to see those guys missing out given their pedigree and the team having this level of success — but if they slip up and the Suns get going, Booker likely takes that last spot.

Snubs: Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, Alperen Sengun, Rudy Gobert, Chet Holmgren, Victor Wembanyama, Domantas Sabonis

The Pelicans have been good enough to get someone in the game, but Ingram and Zion might split some votes (I do think Ingram would get more from coaches than Zion for a variety of reasons) and it’s just really, really crowded right now. Sengun has been spectacular for the Rockets but at .500 I’m not sure the team is good enough for him to get in with a similar stat line to Karl-Anthony Towns (with worse efficiency). Gobert has been great defensively for Minnesota, but I think the field is too deep this year for them to get three guys in and Towns is the more likely pick of the Minnesota bigs. I think Holmgren will get real consideration given the Thunder’s team success and how vital he’s been to it, but I’m not sure who he goes in over and rookies tend to not be high on coaches lists. Wembanyama would get in if fans just picked all 12 spots, but he’ll likely have to wait another year before making his All-Star debut. I realize now that I snubbed Domantas Sabonis from the snubs list initially (apologies, Kings fans), but he also has a strong case with averages of just over 19/12/7 right now. Like so many others, I think he gets left off as they spread roster spots elsewhere with Fox getting in as the Kings representative.

It will not be a particularly fun year for the coaches to fill out All-Star ballots, as there are far too many players with legitimate All-Star cases for the number of roster spots that need to be filled. Last year there were a number of injury replacements that made their way onto the roster, so it’s possible we get a few of those as well (but would obviously prefer to have too many healthy stars to seeing big names go down).

With the league tweaking the All-Star format again this year, maybe they will look at expanding rosters in the near future, as it certainly feels like we don’t have enough spots for the talent level across the league at the moment. There are so many established stars still producing at an All-Star level that it’s hard to make room for the rising superstars in the league, and I think it would benefit the NBA to make a little more space to have them playing alongside each other in the annual February showcase.

In the meantime, we’re going to have plenty of snub talk over the next month-plus, and there will be some free motivation for some big names coming out of the voting process.

In December, Cardi B declared that she and Offset had broken up. Still, they found themselves in the same place on New Year’s Eve, one thing led to another, and the two ended up getting intimate.

In a post-NYE broadcast, Cardi explained:

“Was I clubbing with my baby father yesterday? Yes. Did I got dicked down yesterday? Absolutely, baby. Y’all can use your roles on New Year’s Eve; I need some dick on New Year’s Eve. I feel like we was vibing yesterday, we had a good time. We was Henny’d down. We was both in the same club and it was just really awkward. Like, I’m in my section, he’s in his section. It’s like, ‘Man, just f*ckin’ come over here, let’s just chill, we having a good time.’”

As for where their relationship stands now, she continued, “But I feel at the point of where we at in our relationship, we’ve been together for seven years, we’ve been married for seven years. I don’t consider that we’re back together because the answer of getting back together is not a good night at the club and f*cking the night long. We need to work on our sh*t, we need to work on our communication. There’s things that he gotta work on, there’s things that I gotta work on. And I feel like until we work that out, I don’t feel like we’re back together.”

Yup, There’s Already Two Mickey Mouse-Based Horror Projects After The ‘Steamboat’ Version Of The Disney Icon Hit The Public Domain

If you thought Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey (and its upcoming sequel) was an aberration, think again. When infamous pieces of IP hit the public domain, the mice shall play (and freak out fourth graders), and that now includes the “Steamboat Willie” version of Mickey Mouse. That copyright expired as of 2024’s arrival, and very quickly, teaser trailers for both a horror movie and a horror-survival video game have surfaced.

You can see plenty of the first option above from a film called Mickey’s Mouse Trap, and well, at least it’s not a Thirst Trap? Into Frame Productions surely did not intend for this film to be lofty viewing fare, although it does appear to take some cues from the success of the Five Nights At Freddy’s movie because this version of Mickey is terrorizing patrons of a pizza-party parlor. Is this going to cause Sinister-esque dreams for those of us who are predisposed to watching horror movies while fueling with late-night pizza? Perhaps.

The film doesn’t necessarily look scary but more like it’s enjoying a few jabs at horror tropes and the “rules” of such films, which hasn’t been a novelty since Scream first debuted, but that’s alright because there’s a reference to that initial 1996 movie in the trailer, too. And as if that isn’t enough, there’s also a new teaser (which you can see at IGN) for a Steamboat-Willie-Mickey-based survival-horror game, Infestation 88, on the way as well. IGN also passes on the Nightmare Forge description of the game:

“In the year 1988, what was thought to be an outbreak of rodents in various locations morphed into something far more sinister.” Sometimes you’ll need to fight, sometimes you’ll need to run, and sometimes you’ll need to hide in a locker. You can set traps and utilize CCTV cameras to try and stay one step ahead of the infestation, and item layouts are randomized in order to help keep matches fresh.”

How does Disney feel about this madness? They are vowing to defend the modern iterations of Mickey. Via Deadline:

“More modern versions of Mickey will remain unaffected by the expiration of the Steamboat Willie copyright, and Mickey will continue to play a leading role as a global ambassador for the Walt Disney Company in our storytelling, theme park attractions, and merchandise,” a Disney spokesperson said of the dos and don’ts of the sound-synched film entering the public domain today. “We will, of course, continue to protect our rights in the more modern versions of Mickey Mouse and other works that remain subject to copyright, and we will work to safeguard against consumer confusion caused by unauthorized uses of Mickey and our other iconic characters.”

In other words, it’s now all fun and games when it comes to Steamboat Willie, but no one had better get any ideas about contemporary Mickey, who’s still doing his wholesome thing on merch and at Disney theme parks around the globe.

JID Kicks Off His 2024 Campaign With The Slick-Talking ’30 Freestyle’ Video

In 2022, Atlanta-bred Dreamville rapper JID dropped his third album The Forever Story, peaking at No. 12 on the Billboard 200. Since then, he’s seemingly laid low, taking some well-deserved time off after completing the Luv Is 4ever tour with Smino. In May, he announced a joint project with Metro Boomin, then in August, he teased a follow-up to The Forever Story, Forever & A Day.

It looks like he’s ready to kick off his 2024 campaign, as he opened the year with a new freestyle, “30,” dropping a visualizer in which he raps while sitting in a window. The beat is produced by his long-time beatmaking partner Christo, Conductor, and Tane Runo. On New Year’s Day, JID expressed his intent for the year on Twitter, writing, “ima just drop music all year and see what happens.”

It seems mostly like that what will happen is that JID will drop 4ever & A Day sometime this year, finishing up his Metro Booming project sometime after Metro drops his own joint album with Future. Metro said that this project will be his top focus until its release. In the meantime, it seems as though JID will continue dropping these freestyles — and the rap world will be all the better for it.

Playboi Carti Name-Drops Ice Spice (Much To Her Approval) In His Surprise Travis Scott Collab ‘Backr00ms’

To kick off the new year, Playboi Carti and Travis Scott dropped a new collaboration titled “Backr00ms.” Scott helped announce the song yesterday, with a video shared on his Instagram. In it, an artist named Blackhaine (according to Rolling Stone) shared, “New music. Carti. Travis Scott. Dropping [bleep] today,” as a giant Parental Advisory sticker covered his face.

The song’s relatively surprise drop also came with a music video, where Carti is spending his money on a dancer, and the two rappers are seen performing throughout.

“In the middle of the field, throw me a bomb, I’m throwin’ that bih like a quarterback,” the chorus goes, via Genius. “Standin’ in the field, holdin’ a bomb, throwin’ that ho like a quarterback / Stood in the field, hold me a bomb, throwin’ that ho like a quarterback.”

However, there’s also another eye-catching aspect. During the track, Carti name-drops Ice Spice at the end of his first verse. “B*tch tryna sneak pictures, I don’t give a f*ck ’bout much / I think I need me a Ice Spice, yeah, I want me a munch,” he raps.

She later took to X (formerly Twitter) to indicate her approval of the reference:

This marks Carti’s follow-up to a recent “2024” song, as fans suspect he is gearing up to drop a new album.

Quentin Tarantino’s ‘The Movie Critic’: Everything To Know Including The Release Date, Cast, Trailer, & More Info

tarantino
Getty Image

Quentin Tarantino has been thinking about his final movie for over a decade.

“I want to stop at a certain point,” the two-time Oscar winner told Playboy in 2012. “Directors don’t get better as they get older. Usually the worst films in their filmography are those last four at the end. I am all about my filmography, and one bad film f*cks up three good ones.” In another interview from 2019, Tarantino compared his filmography to a train. “If you think about the idea of all the movies telling one story, and each film is like a train boxcar connected to each other, this one would sort of be the big show-stopping climax of it all. And I could imagine that the 10th one would be a little more epilogue-y,” he said.

After a brief infatuation with Star Trek, Tarantino has settled on his “big show-stopping climax”: The Movie Critic. Let’s hope it’s more Eyes Wide Shut than Buddy Buddy (minus the whole, um, dying thing).

Here’s everything we know about The Movie Critic.

Plot

The Movie Critic is based on, as Tarantino put it, “a guy who really lived, but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag.” The film will be set in California in 1977, the year of Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Saturday Night Fever. It was inspired by the director’s teenage job of loading pornography magazines into a vending machine. “All the other stuff was too skanky to read but then there was this porno rag that had a really interesting movie page,” he explained to Deadline. Tarantino refused to name the magazine, but the critic “wrote about mainstream movies and he was the second-string critic. I think he was a very good critic. He was as cynical as hell. His reviews were a cross between early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle might be if he were a film critic.”

Tarantino praised the anonymous critic for being “very, very funny. He was very rude, you know. He cursed. He used racial slurs. But his shit was really funny. He was as rude as hell.” Somewhere in there, he’ll find the plot (but it won’t be about renowned New Yorker critic Pauline Kael).

Cast

No cast has been announced yet, but Tarantino has said his leading man will be “somebody in the 35 year-old ball park. It’ll definitely be a new leading man for me.” That rules out Django and Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio (maybe Cobra Kai favorite Paul Walter Hauser?), but there’s rumors that John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson might make a Pulp Fiction reunion.

Release Date

Tarantino hoped to start filming in fall 2023, but that was before the SAG-AFTRA strike. It’s unclear when production will begin, so don’t expect The Movie Critic to come out before 2025 (a premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, where Pulp Fiction won the prestigious Palme d’Or, is likely), at the earliest.

Trailer

There’s no trailer. Instead, please enjoy Tarantino on The Golden Girls.

‘Sharknado’ And ‘90210’ Star Ian Ziering Somehow Ended Up, By No Fault Of His Own, In An All-Out Biker Brawl On NYE

Ian Ziering

Beverly Hills 90210 and Sharknado star Ian Ziering was reportedly jumped by a pack of a bikers during an all-out street brawl in Los Angeles on New Year’s Eve. According to police, Ziering has been listed as the victim and the incident is under investigation.

In footage obtained by TMZ, Ziering’s vehicle was reportedly hit by the group of bikers, which led to the actor getting out of his car. That’s when things went south:

You can see Ian hop out of his car after one of the bikers seemingly catches his attention, possibly from a collision … and the altercation erupts in a violent brawl, all seen on video obtained by TMZ.

Check it out … Ian starts wailing on the guy in question, but soon — he gets ganged up on by the others … who begin to whoop on him mercilessly as he tries to make a run for it. Like we said, the [clip] is absolutely bananas … especially considering this a well-known actor.

Eventually, the fight ended with Ziering getting back into his car as both he and the bikers scattered from the scene. The actor did not comment on the incident until he released an Instagram video on Monday night addressing the fight and blasting the police for a lackluster response:

“I am relieved to report that my daughter and I are both completely unscathed, but the incident has left me deeply concerned about the growing boldness of such groups who disrupt public safety and peace,” Ziering said. “This situation highlights a larger issue of hooliganism on our streets and the need for effective law enforcement responses to such behavior. As a citizen and a parent, I find it unacceptable that groups can freely engage in this kind of behavior, causing fear and chaos, while the response from authorities seems insufficient.”

“We must address the underlying issues that lead to such disruptive behavior and ensure that our streets are safe for everyone,” Ziering continued. “I urge city officials and law enforcement to take decisive action against such lawlessness and provide the necessary resources to prevent future occurrences.”
